Stop the US-Israeli War rally in S.F.
NUKE_CLEVELAND replied to EvilMonkey's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Aug 13, 2006 -> 08:52 PM) No, not at all. The way you're using the phrase "acting like Nazis", it would apply if the US mimics Panzer or Luftwaffe battlefield tactics. There's nothing wrong in learning a strategy used effectively by an army fighting an immoral war. Likening Israel to the Nazis is obviously supposed to imply that one of Israel's main purposes is to massacre and liquidate Muslims, Arabs, Palestinians, or some group. That's something that I don't believe one bit, and the IDF quote doesn't support it in the least. You have to love the irony in that because it's LCRs poor, helpless Muslims who want to massacre and liquidate the Jews. -
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Aug 18, 2006 -> 03:18 PM) So as much as I hate to admit it, I gotta pass out some Kudos to John Bolton at the UN. Somehow he managed to work enough with the French to get a ceasefire through the Security Council that has some teeth. Although we couldn't be the "honest broker" alone, by teaming up with France we were able to put together a solution that, if it holds, will help acheive Israeli goals in the region while potentially preserving Lebanese democracy. Everybody hated Bolton but it looks like he's doing quite a job over there.

If I or anyone believe the following statements...

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 11:11 PM) See, this thread is a perfect illustration of the problem I have with this whole debate. Anyone who has any problem with what Israel is currently doing, either with their planning behind this offensive, or their methods of carrying it out, or any other act they've taken, is immediately labeled as part of the "Terrorist apologist crowd." Never mind that people could have honest differences of opinion over whether or not a particular tactic is either legal or effective, whether you get called an anti-semite or not, the immediate response to any questioning of the campaign, of any sort is "My God, why are you on Hezbollah's side?" Even when you criticize the actions of both sides, you get challenged as supporting terrorists. I dont think those who disagree with Isreal's methods are anti-semitic. I just think they're wrong. -

QUOTE(IggyD @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 12:34 PM) The brutal and indiscriminate attack upon the people and infrastructure of Lebanon by the Zionist State "Israel" is a crime against all basic standards of decency and humanity. The excuse given for this murderous invasion was the attack by Hezbollah on the IDF. What this might have to do with the hundreds of thousands of Lebanese innocent men, women and children, who are subjected to an ongoing living hell, is beyond comprehension. Indeed, this current aggression is only the second chapter of the recent viciousness; the first being the furious reinvasion of Gaza and the onslaught on its civilians and the ruination of its basic human services. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I do believe these statements to be true and find they are directed at the government and not the people...what are your thoughts. I will post a link from where the statements originated later for further discussion. Here we go again. The Isrealies are not the aggressors here, the Islamo-fascist Hezbollah thugs and their Syrian and Iranian backers are. What is it going to take to get it through some people's heads that Syria and Iran are using Hezbollah to achieve the dual aim of attacking Isreal's credibility and to attack them physically? Those remarks dont make you an anti-semite. They make you wrong and ignorant of what's going on over there. Anyone with any perceptive ability can see that this is a proxy war being fought by Iran and Syria against Isreal. -
QUOTE(whitesoxin @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 01:10 AM) If Buehrle threw 8 innings of one run ball while striking out 13 there would have been a thread. Am I the only one who is an avid fan of Vazquez? If he can keep this up and stay pitching to his potential, we are going to be even more feared. Until he starts doing that on a consistent basis then it gets attributed to "a broken clock is right twice a day", and rightfully so.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,207195,00.html Next step is to kick out the IAEA inspectors ( I give em about a month before that happens ) and withdraw from the NPT. Is anyone still nieve enough to think diplomacy is gonna work on Ahmenenajad & these guys?

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 10:38 PM) I really think that this is a situation where most major powers didn't step up fast enough to create a small avenue of opportunity that existed within the first 48 hours of the conflict. I think had a country with enough worldwide clout like the US stepped up quickly and met with Lebanese government officials and Israeli government officials soon enough, a temporary cease fire could have taken place that would have brought the Lebanese government on the side of the Israelis. I'm more and more convinced about that based on what I have heard from analysts in Lebanon. The sentiment seemed to be "we're becoming a democracy, the US will help us." That didn't happen. Not from the US, not from Canada, the UK, Russia or anywhere with any real world wide importance. As a result, you quickly saw opinion in Lebanon shift allegiances behind Hezbollah which to the on the ground observer would probably rather quickly come off as freedom fighters once again - even though that handle is totally false. The only country which took the lead on creating peace in the region here is France, and it took over two weeks to get acceptable language through the UN Security Council - mostly with the hang-ups being on our part. In situations where war breaks out, world leadership should be looking for a way to find a positive outcome that ends in peace. That's world leadership. And sadly, the only ones seeming to want that these days are the French. At least in Lebanon. You know something. Im getting really tired of hearing about the poor Lebanese government. This "fledgling democracy" sat on its hands and allowed the southern part of its country to become a Hezbollah cesspool and a staging point for attacks on Isreal. If they didn't know then they are incompetent. If they did know purposefully did nothing to stop it then they are complicit. If they did know, couldn't handle the situation themselves and didn't ask for help then they are incompetent. Methinks complicit is the answer, especially when you consider the fact that Hezbollah controls a solid foothold in the government.

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 03:20 AM) Hell yeah! Who needs psychologists and psychiatrists with empirical evidence of post-partum depression, genetic predisposition to being schizophrenic, hearing voices, severely delusional thoughts and voices and other mental disorders! We need to execute more and more people instead of using logic to find out all the necessary facts to see if compassion and mercy should be extolled. Hard time in a prison and/or executing her isn't and wasn't going to cure Andrea Yates of her severe depression and schizophrenia -- or make us safer. She can be safely institutionalized where she gets the help she needs and will spend her life in an asylum. The total lack of facts, logic, rational thinking and reason to utter the statements that insane asylums are "coddling" is mindblowing to me. But then again I'm sure there is a cabal of leftist liberals who sit around doing field tests and empirical research just to get criminals off rather than exploring the brain and how it works, especially in cases of mental diseases and disorders. Sorry for the vitriol but what you said was one of the most crass, insensitive and, quite frankly, asinine things I've ever heard uttered. I have a really hard time extending compassion or mercy to anyone who offs 5 children, regardless of what mental illness MIGHT be afflicting her. If someone is so mentally ill that they will commit mass murder then they should never see the light of day ever again. As for Yates. Oh we're never going to let her out but we're sure gonna spend millions of dollars on shrinks to cure her! Thats what's asinine, not what Minors had to say. What Minors was talking about might have been crass and insensitive but the logic of it sure beats keeping someone around for about 3-4 decades and spending money on shrinks that whole time for someone who will never and should never see the light of day again. -

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 12:36 AM) I'm always amazed at the morbid nature of human beings. If our country is so great then it should be able to extend a greater sense of mercy and compassion than what was doled out by this prisoner to his victim. There's nothing that a person can do to rid themselves of their essential humanity to deserve being killed. We as a people choose to take it from them. Seeing that, I'm stuck on how the 372nd execution in TX since 1982 really was 'justice', saved taxpayer money or how anybody feels safer or even feels a moral superiority to the crime he committed because this guy with no prior criminal record and an honorable discharge from the Marines was executed in a sterile holding area at a Texas prison in an act of revenge and court sanctioned murder -- much less how any person can gloat over another's death. I just love how you get all up in arms when the state rids itself of criminal scum like this. I also love how leftists like you shed all those tears for the perps and none for the victims.

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 04:56 PM) He is a clueless incompetent who was too busy handing out bologna sandwiches and violating the Constitution to do his job. I'd pin credit for the collar on the work of the Homicide divisions rather than on Joe because, well, they were the ones who did all the work. From Phoenix News Times: http://phoenixnewtimes.com/Issues/current/...paio/index.html How is it that you can assign blame to someone in charge when he fails in his duties but assign the credit elsewhere for successes? -

Iran's solution for the mideast war?

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 01:47 PM) Pratt, I do not believe its "pre-emptive" when the other said says: "We are going to destroy you when we get the chance." My feeling is this is going to come to a really ugly head one of these days and when it does its gonna produce lots and lots of death and destruction. -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 11:44 AM) Damn, I hate making lists like that because I always forget people... I definately need Flaxx invovled. He'd have to be in charge of the beer and music at my fundraisers/inaugural ball. Flaxx=Event Coordinator for Team Southsider If I had to fill one position on my campaign team it would be to put you in charge of mass mailings. Based on your 40 thousand plus posts here on Soxtalk.

Iran's solution for the mideast war?

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 12:57 PM) Joke goes: "What's a Moderate Muslim?" "One that only wants to kill Jews!" I think that's untrue. That sort of thinking was true when it came to Cuba in 1963, The Soviet Union for Fifty Years, North Korea ten years ago (even longer than that, probably) Iraq over a decade ago (and no, we didn't have to go in and fight them, and I doubt Saddam would've ever physically provoked us if we hadn't decided to go in) France during the early 1800s England in 1812 (that war was unnecessary, too -- in fact, England apologized for its offenses via Parliament, but by the time the news got to us, we had unfortunately declared War already!) Offhand, the only time in history where a War was absolutely necessary was in Germany, 1939, but that might've been checked by Balls pre-Appeasement. I see some shoddy diplomacy right now, but I don't see any appeasement, and I don't see an inevitable war, thanks. It's possible, but let's not act like the only solution is to blow up the Island. Curtis Lemay says hello! Here's my problem with your line of reasoning. The Soviet Union could be deterred. Despite their flawed ideology, they were a rational and intelligent people. They understood the consequenses of war with the Western powers and didn't want anymore than we did. Iran, on the other hand, may not be able to be deterred. They are a fanatical, nazi-style regime that is hell bent on wiping out Isreal and if they get wiped out themselves they will chalk it up to being a martyr for Allah. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 10:45 AM) I can't imagine shutting down Mexico City is going to go over well for the 15 million or so people who live and work there... QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 02:46 PM) Balta, That argument is flawed. It suggests that the people in Lebanon who blame the Israeli's would have ever sided with the Israeli's. I do not agree, if you had any inclination to side with the Isreali's, you would still side with them. Israel was attacked by Hezbollah, not the other way around. I do not understand how you can blame the country who was attacked for responding. There is nothing that Israel can do. Israel has sat on its hands for decades as the powers that be around them try and come up with plans and strategies to ensure their destruction. The Israeli's have bent over backwards to create stability by handing over prescious land to various middle east countries, and in the end it does nothing. There is no good will created. the people do not say "Wow, Israel got attacked and then gave the land back, what an honorable country." Instead they want more, more land, more power, they want there to be no Israel. So in the end, the position Israel has to take is; Who the f cares what the countries that surround us think? When they (Lebanon and other Middle East countries) actually do something, not just placate western society with their words about how they are going to stop terrorism, how they are going to work towards peace, then maybe they should be given some credibility. But right now, they have 0. So I do not believe the Lebanese, if they truely wanted this to stop, it would stop. This is all about the freing of terrorists, something that the US and the rest of the world has to stand strong on. You can not give into releasing terrorists by the threat of more terror. If anything you must take that threat, and show the terrorists that you have no fear. That any threat they make will be retaliated against far worse than anything they can imagine. Either they all live in peace, or they all live in fear. The Lebanese, Hezbollah, and many other would love Israeli's to live in constant fear. And now the Israeli govt is letting them walk a mile in their shoes. Excellent post Badger.

Irony comes back to bite lawyer in the ass.

Lots of this........ The irony here is nearly perfect ( had it been someone he got off the hook that would have made it so ). Someone spends their life finding every last loophole and lying out of his ass to get criminals off the hook it is a delicious irony to have his own family fall victim to the same type of criminal scum he helped set free. -
