  1. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 07:53 PM) Okay, let me take you through the steps. Bonds gets hit Gets on base Next time up, he is noticeably farther off the plate than his last at bat. ¿Comprende? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Oh is that what you meant to say? You should have said that in the beginning. I didn't see the game so I can't say. I don't watch the scrubs. I will take your word on it. However, that is one pitcher in all of MLB that has challenged Bonds in that way. ONE.
  2. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 07:45 PM) He would move after he got hit cas the pitcher brushed him off by hitting him. That's what happens in baseball. Why would he move back off the plate if he hasn't gotten hit? Um, duh! And I still don't see how it makes him a better hitter. All I see is that it makes it hurt less when he is hit. Maybe the fact that when he gets hit on the elbow, it doesn't hurt as much therefore retaining more power for his next at bat. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So the pitcher brushed him off or did he hit him? Those are two seperate things. If he was hit by the pitch why did he try to get out of the way of the pitch AFTER he was hit by hit? I think I already explained how it allows him to be more selective and take away part of the plate. You bring up Mark Prior. That is one pitcher in all of MLB that has actually challenged Bonds with it. You can see it anyway you like. I have no reason to argue and in fact it is quite tiring.
  3. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 07:44 PM) Wow. Do you not watch baseball. Someone can actually turn into a pitch on accident and get plunked. Did you see how Jenks popped that Ambres guy in te chin yesterday??? Or how about a late reaction. Look at Hafner when he got popped by Buehrle. 2nd, how can you claim he started the argument when at 1st, you challenged me by saying that the juice is not why he is good, instead, it is the "armor."??? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Kid, did you read what he wrote? He said that he got hit by the pitch THEN proceeded to move out of the way of the pitch. I have never seen a player get hit by the pitch AND THEN try to get out of the way of the pitch after it already hit him. CAN YOU READ? The armor helped make him a better HITTER. Read my comments kid, it never once included JUST home runs. Are you reading any of my posts?
  4. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 07:40 PM) 1. Calm the f*** down killer. 2. If your gonna tell me Bonds doesnt move on brush-back pitches than your f***ing crazy. He is a human being, not a robot. Natural reflexes are to get your ass out of the way of a pitching coming at you! WTF are you talking about!?!?! 3. IN bold your saying he never tries to hit himself, yet, earlier, all you were saying is that he doesnt get out of the way, ever. How does that make sense? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Kid how old are you? I am sure he will if it is at his head. Most pitchers will not throw at a guys head. Who is going to throw it at the players legs? Risk a wild pitch? That doesnt make sense. Since he has used that elbow pad I have not seen him move. That is correct. Read what is in bold again. In bold it states that BIGGIO tries to hit himself. BONDS does not intentionally try to get hit. BIGGIO actually will stick his arm or elbow into a pitch. Have you never seen this done? BONDS does not do that. Why does he have to INTENTIONALLY try to get hit by the pitch in order to never get out of the way of a pitch? Your argument is ridiculous.
  5. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 07:40 PM) He got hit, and then he proceeded to move. It's possible you know in the game of baseball. And the argument from what I see is that the elbow pad helps him hit HR's. If not, then what the f*** are you arguing about? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Why would he move after he got hit by the ball? I don't understand. He got hit by the ball and then tried to get out of the way? Why would someone do that? You started the argument. All along I said I was not arguing the home run point, but you kept insisting I was. I argued that it made him a better overall hitter. Look at my posts. I even included on base percentage, batting average, and walks. Go back and check it out wise guy.
  6. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 07:38 PM) You Barry Bonds apologist! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Then why the hell would the greatest player ever do steroids?
  7. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 07:35 PM) Bonds does move. Did you not see him the game where Prior plunked him and he was getting pissed off at Prior? All the elbow pad does it make a HBP hurt less. You could still aim for his legs and his head if you really think that his elbow pad has the magical power to allow him to hit more homers. Again, Frank and Sheffield and Biggio all wear armor and crowd the plate, you don't see them hitting a crazy # of HR's. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So did he move or did he get hit? Which is it? Frank crowds the plate that is news to me. Again. I was never arguing it helps him hit home runs. Get that through your f***ing head. Point out to me where I said that at anytime and I will admit I am wrong on this whole argument.
  8. QUOTE(SHAFTR @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 07:33 PM) Without Steroids, Bonds is still the 3rd best Leftfielder of all time. If he is on steroids, I question how much they actually do. Look at Giambi now without steroids, his #s the past month or so were the same as they were with steroids. Nothing has been proved about the effect steroids has on power. The only thing that has been proven is that it makes your body heal quicker. I'm not saying that steroids add power, I'm just saying I don't know for sure we can say that. Also, for my money, Bonds 04 was the greatest year by a hitter, ever. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Maybe he is on HGH?!?!
  9. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 07:32 PM) Pretty much. ssi, you were arguing that he hits more HR's because of his elbow pad. That's not the case. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No I wasn't. Point that out to me and I will gladly say I was.
  10. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 07:27 PM) Look at Carl Everett and how damn close he stand to the plate. He doesn't hit 50 HR's a year. Compare Bonds HBP #'s to Biggio who gets hit over 20 times a year. 256 HBP in 300 less career games. He wears an elbow pad. He stands close to the plate. Yet, he averages 15 HR's a year. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Jesus f***ing Christ kid. Carl Everett does stand on top of the plate, but does not wear body armor. The pitcher can brush hm off the plate as much as he wants and Carl WILL move. Bonds has no need to as he is protected. They won't pitch Bonds inside. Biggio doesn't stand on top of the plate. Closer than Frank, but not right on top of it like Bonds or Crazy Carl. He sometimes puts his elbow out there to get plunked. He has tried to get hit at times. I have never seen Bonds do that.
  11. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 07:23 PM) Thanks for the insight. Couldn't answer it because you know its a contradictory statement. How come Gary Sheffield who uses the same elbow pad as Bonds doesn't have as many HR's as either Bonds or Thomas?? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I didn't know Sheffield was a home run hitter. Sheffield seems to hit more line drives than anything else. Sheffield was supposedly on steroids as well and was in the same Balco investigation. Maybe steroids has nothing to do with it either. Where did I say this makes him hit more home runs? You are arguing nonsense.
  12. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 07:21 PM) Oh yeah, I forgot, the big bad elbow pad is going to jump out and hit the pitcher right in the face if he hits him there. It's a non-issue. If it a pitcher wants to brush him off, he could. Simply give him credit for being able to hit the ball, steroids or not. The elbow pad is not the difference between a HR and a single. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What? Hit the pitcher in the face.. ok.. I don't know what that has to do with anything. He doesn't get brushed off because there is no need for him to move. I never said the elbow pad made a difference between a single and a HR. Where did I say that? Do you want to go back and read my posts? It does allow him to be more selective and allow him to get a pitch to drive.
  13. QUOTE(Finkelstein @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 07:20 PM) I agree, but the pad does take the fear away which is a large part of gaining the advantage over a pitcher. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
  14. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 07:19 PM) So by that logic, how come Frank Thomas doesn't have as many HR's on him or hits them at a pace Barry Bonds does? I don't buy that argument a bit. Bonds loves the ball inside so he could turn on it. Using your logic, pitchers wouldn't pitch inside therefore decreasing his HR total. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Nonsense. Where does Frank stand? He doesn't have the same kind of attitude Bonds does towards it. Maybe he should. He can still get the ball inside, however an inside pitch would be almost down the middle of the plate because he stands so close to the plate.
  15. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 07:16 PM) 1)I don't see Bonds getting traded. 2)Elbow pads don't help driving balls out of the ballpark. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> wrong on both accounts 1) you don't know this Nostradamus 2) It helps him to become more selective in order to find a pitch he can drive out of the park. He is not one of the best hitters in the game only because he hits home runs, but also because of his high on base percentage, walk total, and average.
  16. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 07:13 PM) Maybe I'm not but explain to me how 1 big elbow pad helps him hit??? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> OK, it allows him to stand as close to the plate as he wants. If an inside pitch comes in it deson't bother him. He doesn't care about getting knocked off the plate, he will just put that big pad up to protect himself. Since a pitcher can't throw inside he is able to cover the whole plate, which is why his batting average, walk total, and on-base percentage is so high as well as his home run total.
  17. QUOTE(ptatc @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 05:25 PM) I'm a physical therapist and athletic trainer. HGH is not only left out of the MLB agreement but also NFL. It's because of the blood sampling that the unions have kept it out. You're right about the development of the new ones. There may be a few takers for Bonds. But with the uncertainty about the steriods and the knee, I think it will scare most off. Did you know that the surgreon he went to has had his medical license revoked for un ethical practice before? He goes to this guy because he will do what he wants. Many teams are leary of this. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That is not entirely true. HGH is not left out of the MLB policy. It is an actual banned substance by MLB. The problem is that they don't have a test for it. So it really doesn't matter if it is banned or not if they don't test for it. But it is a banned substance by MLB.
  18. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 05:12 PM) 1) Contract 2) Juice 3) Expensiveness Look at home much Sabean wants for Vizquel or Schmidt. Now think of how much he would want for Barry f***ing Bonds. If the Sox would want him, they would have to trade the Birmingham Barons for him + one of Carl/Aaron/Dye. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Again, Anaheim and a some other teams like them that don't mind spending money wouldn't give 2 s***s abot his contract. He would bring enough fans in to the stadim chasing the home run record that the contract wouldn't even matter. The Juice? HA!! OK. In Barry's case I don't think it is the juice that is helping him. Now if they outlawed body armor and elbow pads in baseball then we may see a different player than the old Bonds. Expensiveness as to what other teams would have to give up? I can't see it being a lot as SF would be stuck between a rock and a hard place. If his knee does not allow him to play the field where the hell are the Giants going to play him? They have no choice but to trade him. If every team knows this do you really think they are going to pay a lot to get him? I don't think you are thinking this through completely.
  19. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 05:10 PM) The richer players can stay ahead of the testing. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That is true, I heard HGH is against baseball rules, but they don't have a way to test for it. Could this be something that lead to Giambi's better numbers as the season went along? I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'.
  20. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 05:03 PM) No one will take him. He is stuck in LF of SBC Park... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No one? Why is that? I am sure Anaheim would love to have him and they like to spend money as well. Why would no one take him? His attitude? Please, a lot of teams will look right past that and at his 40 HRs a year.
  21. QUOTE(Tadahito15 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 04:50 PM) Time has become a serious factor more than anything right now. With roughly 3 days left, KW really needs to focus on a select 1 or 2 players adn work extremely hard to aquire them. Splitting up his attention, IMO, would not be the right thing to do unless of course you make the select few teams more anxious/nervous to deal before time escapes them. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Oh, he is doing this all himself? I didn't know that is how our organization worked. If that is true then this organization sucks. I am sure he has help with all of this. I don't think it is hard for him to look into a couple trades at the same time.
  22. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 04:38 PM) Honestly, I don't see anything happen between now and the deadline. I wish Oakland was out of it so we could inquire about Zito, but that ain't happening. If there is a deal made, here are my most likely to happen to lease likely: Huff & Baez Burnett & Lowell Overbay Schmidt Schmidt & Vizquel(I just don't get where people get the idea that SF is going to want to downgrade at SP and SS, especially when they have publicly said they are going to want to contend next year when Barry is back) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> IF Barry is back. There have been rumors that Barry Bonds will not be able to play the field and SF will have to deal him to an American League team where he will be able to DH.
  23. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 04:12 PM) If you say so, chief. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I did and I do say so.
  24. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 03:54 PM) I think the sox will get Burnett. Florida needs bullpen help and they need it badly. They would be stupid not to take the Sox Offer. If the Sox do get Lowell i think the Sox should spin Lowell off to another team for some prospects or bullpen help. Do you think the Sox should keep Lowell or not if they get him. He is another right handed masher and they have enough of those already. If they are going to get a power hitter i would want him to swing from the left side. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think they won't get Burnett, but they will get Jason Schmidt and Omar Vizquel. I also think they will get Aubrey Huff.
  25. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 03:34 PM) Yeah, fathom's definitely right on this one. Robinson had that thing wrapped up about a month ago. Bochy would've even had a good shot at coming in second a while ago. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I really don't believe so. The Braves were 11 games over .500 and only 2.5 games behind Washington a month ago today. The Braves were playing well with rookies at 3B, 1B, and both corner OF positions. They were playing with an injured Furcal and Chipper Jones, Hudson and Hampton were all on the DL. Their bullpen was and still is in shatters. Yet, they are 11 games over .500 and 2.5 games behind Washington. Everyone was waiting for things to catch up with Washington because they were scoring less runs than they were giving up. I don't see how you people think Robinson would have it wrapped up and would have ran away with it just because he was only 2.5 games up and was a "surprise" to everyone. Everything was lucky for them and I do believe everyone saw it that way. Maybe not you guys, but everyone else did.
