QUOTE(bigred3535 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 07:28 PM) I hope KW has no interest. Sweeney is the most brittle player in the MLB this side of Kerry Wood. I'd rather get Nevin, Huff or any other number of 1B/DHs. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I would not touch Phil Nevin. NO THANK YOU!!!!!
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 07:13 PM) You'd sell the farm for a 32 year old DH with a horribly bad back and a $12.5M salary? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I was thinking the same thing.

QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 06:00 PM) Hey, lets not make fun of Valentin. I wish we still had him. I know I am in the minority, but I liked him. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You are definitely in the minority and there is a good reason for that. He was a hack in the field and was home run or nothing at the plate. He was awful.

QUOTE(BDavisFutureHOF @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 05:59 PM) Who ever deemed SS as a power position? Frankly, I think Uribe blows ass -- he is basically an automatic out at the plate -- but he has singlehandidly won us a ton of ballgames this year -- with both his glove and his bat. Doesn't he lead the team in Sac flies? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I do believe you are correct.
-
QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 05:55 PM) Yea there are some SS that are better then Uribe, but it would take a s***load to get them... Lugo from TB can hit but doenst have the power that you want as a SS. It wouls have been so much easier if we would have just got Tejada when he was a FA <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You would want Lugo if he had power? Talk about a defensive liability. That guy is Jose Valentin all over again.

QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 05:53 PM) Great response. I do appreciate that some of what Juan does is unquantifiable, and I may have been hasty in suggesting Pablo would be a great fill-in perse. I was honestly just surprised at how bad Juan was at the plate and coupled with what I viewed as mediocre defensive stats, I got on my pedestal and started shouting. However, our most glaring deficiency is on offense it seems, and our most glaringly bad offensive player is Juan Uribe. Isn't there someone available that is better offensively and not a significant downgrade defensively? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Omar Vizquel has been mentioned as well as Alex Gonzalez from the Marlins I believe. We may sign Alex Gonzalez in the off season though because he likes Ozzie. Those two are the only SS I have heard about.

QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 05:52 PM) Dude he wants Ozuna to start instead of Uribe. You have got to be kidding me if you think Ozuna is anywere near the talent of Uribe. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So then defend your point of view. There is absolutely no need for STHU moron. I mean what the hell did that add to the discussion? Honestly, what? It just makes you look like an immature fool that no one would ever take serious. If that is how you want to come across then mission accomplished.

QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 05:46 PM) YES IT IS <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No it really isn't. It is how a child argues. When a child can't think of anything bright to say or anything to back his/her argument they start name calling. I find it repulsive that you find this kind of behavior as a good thing. Grow up.

QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 05:42 PM) SHUT THE HELL UP...MORON :finger :finger :finger :rolly <{POST_SNAPBACK}> WOW! Isn't that a personal attack? STHU Moron? Is that really necessary?

Jermaine Dye hasn't committed an error at shortstop either. By the way that helped out my fantasy team a great deal. To be able to put a stick like Dye in my MI spot is just awesome. However, I digress. Hibbard, there is not a statistic out there that can actually prove someone's defensive worth. It is really impossible to do that. Just watch the games and you will notice how damn good Uribe is at SS. Watch the games and you will see such a huge downgrade in quality when Pablo fills in for Uribe. Uribe is a stud in the field and that should not even be up for debate. His bat I would like to improve. However, is Pablo really that huge of an upgrade offensively that you would be able to deal with the huge downgrade defensively? Who is to say that if you start playing Pablo day in and day out that he will be that good offensively? Plus SS2K pointed out that Pablo has absolutely no power. There is no way I am taking a chance with him playing everyday when I am not making my team any better. Now if you want to acquire a SS like Vizquel then I can understand that and I am with you, however I am not for replacing him with Pablo as the everyday SS. Hibbard, I understand you jsut want to try to make this team better, but this would not do that. This team is based on pitching and defense. The Sox are close to unbeatable when they don't create an error. You can't risk losing a guy like Uribe when your team is built like that.

QUOTE(harwar @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 05:02 PM) If the deal for burnett could have been made,then the phillies would have taken burnett for wagner as long as we paid for everything. The problem is that fla. wants the White Sox to pay all of mike lowells' contract,and the Sox won't do that. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I thought it was 60 percent. Where did you hear all?

QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 01:12 PM) stark said the sox have picked up interest and are making a push for guardado now too........he also said the sox could send a slew of young prospects for both huff and baez <{POST_SNAPBACK}> OH YEAH BABY!!!! When did he say this? I just turned off the radio and I missed this? By the way I can't stand Eric CaSILLYASS. Plus all Tom Shaer is reporting is a deal with the Cubs and Soriano, not once has he mentioned Sox stuff.

QUOTE(HSC's Biggest Fan @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 01:04 PM) Let's see Houston just swept them and beat Pedro, well the Mets when Pedro pitched. Oh, Houston is also 9-1 in their last 10. Although I think Wade should think about a deal he won't. The white flag deal is very similar to this in that although they are only 3 1/2 games (or something) back the fans, as they should, still believe the Phils have a shot. Their problem is that their division is just tough enough for them to make it hard. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> it is not similar to the white flag deal or even close to comparable. They would most likely receive McCarthy, Marte and another prospect for Wagner, and that is not comparable to our white flag trade. They have a good bullpen and they are looking for a starting pitcher. McCarthy may be that. They have Urbina to close games for them and Marte to fill in the bullpen spot they would lose out of Wagner. It isn't like they are just throwing everything away. That is, of course, if the Sox don't obtain players from someone else to spin off to the Phillies to obtain Wagner.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 02:11 AM) Nice to meet you Crazy, I'm Los Medias Blancas. So, we'll have a how many million dollar has been ON THE BENCH? Listen to what you're saying, he's not good enough to start over Crede??!!...at how many million?? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He would be our DH no? Next year he can play 1B when we say good bye to Paulie, no? And the deal would only get done if the Marlins agree to pay half. Its not so crazy.

Red Sox will explore Ramirez trade
southsideirish replied to Whitesoxfan56's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You know it usually doesn't take as much as people tend to think to acquire a disgruntled player that wants out. I know it isn't EXACTLY the same scenario, but an example is the Cardinals trade iwth the Phillies to get Rolen. All the Cardinals gave up was Mike TImlin, Placido Polanco, and Bud Smith. What is that the equivalent with us? Brandon McCarthy, Damaso Marte/Cliff Politte, and ?Uribe?Crede?Everett? Hell I would do that deal. -
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 09:19 PM) I was just making a sarcastic point, sans green font. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I know, I was just saying.
-
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 09:17 PM) Right, and while we are taking their best players, we can go ahead and trade for Ben Sheets and Carlos Lee too! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't want carlos back on this team, but Ben Sheets that's another story!!!!!!!
-
QUOTE(bigred3535 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 09:15 PM) I don't know if anyone has mentioned this in any of the numerous Overbay threads, but I'd be more than willing to go for this deal if the Sox could get Derrick Turnbow as part of it. He'd be a fantastic bullpen addition, almost to the same degree as Wagner, especially since Turnbow is younger and, in all likelyhood, more easily re-signeable. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Why the hell would the Brewers trade him? He is young and cheap.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 09:10 PM) No. The Marlins are not going to trade withing their own division and risk helping an opponent while they still have a small chance of making the playoffs. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ok, but that is what I am saying. I think you are misunderstanding me and I am having trouble making it clear. By trading Burnett to either the White Sox or Red Sox they may essentially be helping a team in their own division out. Because they know that both the White Sox and Red Sox are interested in moving Burnett to Philly in order to acquire Wagner. Since the Marlins know that the White Sox or Red Sox are interested in doing that, and they don't want that to happen, is that something that could be holding up a trade of Burnett to either the White Sox or Red Sox?
-
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 09:04 PM) Wagner = FA at the end of season. Marte = signed for God knows how long. Marlins = no money to resign Wagner if they traded within their own division to get him, which they wouldn't. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> OK, that seems reasonable. The only problem I have is with the Marlins not wanting to trade Burnett within their own division. Everything being equal wouldn't the Marlins rather want Wagner than Marte and McCarthy? Essentially they would be helping out a division team anyway because they would have to know that the Sox have interest in sending Burnett to Philly to get Wagner. Could that be something that is holding this whole thing up?
-
I am not completely understanding this. If this is what was happening then why would the Marlins want Marte? Why wouldn't they trade Burnett straight up to Philadelphia for Wagner right now. Why is a middle man needed? Because they don't want to help each other out? If I am the Marlins I would rather have Wagner than Marte and McCarthy if I am trying to compete for this year and they keep saying they are. I just don't get it.

QUOTE(ptatc @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 08:13 PM) To continue a career artificially going longer than it should go. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ok, good point.
-
QUOTE(ptatc @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 08:10 PM) there is a test for it. It's esay to find. Just take a blood sample and test for the levels of growth hormone. The problem is professional sports unions have kept the drug testing to urine samples only. It doesn't matter if it is banned in the policy, if they don't test for it, you won't catch them. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You misunderstood me. You are right there is a test for it, but MLB doesn't have a test for it. And you are right about the last sentence and that is what I said as well. I just wanted to clarify it for others that it is in fact a banned substance by MLB. I didn't want others to think that it wasn't.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 07:51 PM) Im sick of this age bulls***. It doesn't f***ing matter how old I am. I am still a fan and I still think your argument is dumb. I never said Biggio doesnt try to get hit on purpose. He is a leadoff hitter and a scrappy player who just wants to get on base. By saying Bonds never moves from a pitch heading right towards him, you are inferring that he wants to get hit on purpose. 9 HBP a year is not a lot. Yet, my argument is ridiculous. :rolly <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No I am in no way inferring that. Your argument is ridiculous, but that is ok with me kid.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 07:57 PM) Yeah, I forgot. Prior is the only brave man to ever dare challenge Barry Bonds. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It is the only one you have pointed out and I didn't even know he did since I don't watch the scrubs.
