If your gonna whine and jump off a cliff
southsideirish replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 04:38 PM) Maybe Jenks wasn't drafted by the Sox, but he was salvaged off the scrap heap. That's a good, no .... Great! GM move. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I agree. Jenks was developed into a reliever by the Sox, something he wasn't with the Angels system. He could be really good. Cotts also was a starter with the Oakland system and he was turned into a pretty damn good left handed reliever by the Sox system. Both were in our minor league system before being brought up to the minor league club. Garland was also developed by the Sox and went through our minor league system. I consider all of those players home grown talent. Just because you were not drafted by the same team does not mean you were not developed by them. Being developed by an organization is basically what home grown is, no? -

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 04:17 PM) Wasn't Garland acquired via a trade with the Cubs? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Was he ever a Cub? He never pitched for the major league team. I consider him home grown because we developed him in our system. Didn't we develop him in our minor league system? It is like trading for a draft pick. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 04:07 PM) Cleveland....they're going to be monsters for the next 5 years or so. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> OK, but it took them a while to regroup and turn it back around, and besides CC Sabathia is anyone on that pitching staff home grown talent? Victor Martinez Jonny Peralta Travis Hafner Coco Crisp Grady Sizemore Casey Blake CC Sabathia That is all right? QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 03:56 PM) Don't use the budget as an excuse for KW. He has the highest budget in the division, and if he could develop minor leaguers who could actually contribute, he would have more money to spend on impact players. Its his 5th year as GM. Who has he developed? Compared to other organizations, the farm system has been poor. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Besides Oakland, Minnesota, and Atlanta, what other organizations would you be talking about? I don't see many organizations at all developing young talent on a consistent basis. -
QUOTE(FLsouthsider @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 04:59 PM) I had a friend of mine place a bet at Wynn's in Vegas back in May. I have the Sox +800 to win it all and +400 to win the AL pennant. Not the best prices, seeing as it would have been many times that had he been in Vegas a month earlier. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I was in Vegas in February and got the Sox at these odds: (1) Future Wager 02/06/05 04:33 ET 137.00/616.50 Result: Pending 2005 American League Central Champion Chicago White Sox 10/01/05 (12:00 ET) 9-2 (2) Future Wager 02/06/05 04:31 ET 50.00/2500.00 Result: Pending 2005 World Series Championship Chicago White Sox 10/30/05 (12:00 ET) 50-1

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 06:05 AM) "Where would we play 'em? Where would we play 'em" "Everett has been extremely clutch we can't move his .269/.322/.469 out of the three hole, come on." <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And he is even better against righthanders VS Right Handers: Carl Everett OBP .307 SLG .460 AVG .245 Ken Griffey Jr. OBP .365 SLG .580 AVG .301 Not to mention his 20 Home Runs against righties Your right Hawk! How can you possibly sit Crazy Carl down if you bring in Ken Griffey Jr.

QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 03:43 AM) I dont question his work ethic... just the constant thread that he's a Golg Glover... he's not. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He may not be a gold glover but he is just a notch below that. You also said that gold glovers never misjudge balls. That is not true at all as I pointed out. Plus I guess it really depends on what you think a gold glover really is. Remember Tony Gwynn was a 5 time gold glover. Was he really? Or was he just voted a gold glover because he could hit?
-
QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 08:51 PM) Potential gold glover ?... gold glovers dont misjudge balls .. Rowand has done that allot this year. great series vs Yankees.. Gold Glovers do it every series. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Gold glovers do misjudge balls. Ask Torii Hunter about that. He badly misjudged a flyball earlier this year against the White Sox that he should have caught. Instead he moved in quickly and it went over his head for a double. It happens. Rowand has had it happen a couple times, but for the most part he gets excellent reads on flyballs and very good jumps. He has not always been this way. He has worked damn hard to become an excellent defensive centerfielder.

QUOTE('94WorldChamps @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 06:18 PM) Durham is a DH/LF at this point, not a 2B. That's one. The current incarnation of Griffey will get owned by quality pitching, I guarantee you that. We have enough of those in the line-up as it is. Ray will get on base and he can still score on a double, regardless of the situation or who's on the mound. That's two. SF can't rid of Durham fast enough, will pick up some money, so he will come cheap for what he brings to the table, still. Griffey's price, in money and in talent Cincy ownership will be satisfied with, is prohibitive. That's three-through-40 Mill. I know people hear 'Griffey' and the panty-creaming commences. Weigh all the pros and cons, and you'll see why he's not the panacea. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I just showed you comparisons of Durham's and Griffey's stats THIS YEAR and they play in the exact same league with Griffey playing in a much better pitching division than Durham does. There is a reason that the Giants want to rid themselves of Durham's contract and it has more to do with his play or lack there of than it does with his contract. By the way I believe Griffey Jr. could score on a double as well. Why is that even part of the argument? On a team that needs a leadoff man or a #2 hitter I can possibly see your point about Durham, however we have 2 very capable hitters in the #1 and #2 spots. We need and have needed a left-handed power hitter for quite some time now. Griffey Jr. fills that need, not Ray Durham. Durham is not the remedy that this team needs, it is a Griffey Jr type player that can make this offense very scary. Where would you even bat Ray Durham?
-
QUOTE('94WorldChamps @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 04:58 PM) Screw Griffey. Just another bopper who will get owned in the playoffs, Eric Chavez-style. His contract and injury history as well as what it'll take to get him don't quite blow my mind, either. We need OBP. Lots of it. Whether Rickey Henderson, Ray Durham, Mother Goose, I don't care. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Griffey Jr. Average .279 OBP .353 Slugging .532 Durham Average .300 OBP .372 Slugging .431 I am sorry, but I completely disagree with you about our needs and what you think Griffey is. He does bring a pretty good OBP to the table as well as being a slugger. He is a left handed power bat that this team and lineup has needed for years and has been unable to fill. Those numbers above clearly prove that you have no idea what you are talking about and Ray Durham is definitely not what this club needs. His defense, if you take away going back on pop-ups (WHOOPEE!), has always been horrible as well. We are currently built around our pitching and defense. He is definitely not what this team needs and I don't think you have any idea about what you are talking about. You need to ask Pat Sajak if you can buy a clue and f*** the god damn vowels. Plus Durham's injuy history since he has left the Sox has been as bad if not worse than Griffey Jr's. Durham has played in only 70 more games than Junior has since 2003. Nothing to brag about there.

QUOTE(alexgtp @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 08:16 PM) its over.. why cant ppl just be happy with the team we have now.. I sure as hell am!! GO SOX! I cant handle anymore rumor and speculation.. and also waivers are a b****!! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Because it isn't over. We still have waiver deals that can be made. And most Sox fans know that we probably don't have enough to win the whole thing. We don't want to just make the playoffs, we want to win the World f***in' Series.

Sorry, my fault. I thought any mention of a trade for KGJ or Burroughs and Borchard would have been in the trade wind section. Apparently I was wrong. Sorry for double posting.
-
The White Sox and Reds agreed to a deal that would send Ken Griffey Jr. to the White Sox for three minor league prospects. It was then killed by Reds owner Carl Lindner last weekend. If Griffey clears waivers this month the two teams will revisit the trade. The Padres plan to trade third baseman Sean Burroughs to the White Sox this week for AAA OF Joe Borchard The White Sox believe that Frank Thomas' ankle injury will require further surgery that will end his career. All this comes from the BUZZ in this weeks Sports Weekly by Bob Nightengale. I have not seen this posted anywhere yet.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 04:04 AM) ^^^^^ I called it in the earlier Bobby Jenks thread... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't think you or anyone else here called it. Kenny Williams mentioned it himself before he even brought Jenks up. So if anyone called it, KW did.

Here is the list MLB.com thinks will be able to clear waivers: With that in mind, here's a rundown of possible August trade candidates: Boston Red Sox: OF Manny Ramirez New York Yankees: OF/IF Tony Womack Baltimore Orioles: RHP Sidney Ponson; LHP Steve Kline Tampa Bay Devil Rays: 1B Travis Lee; SS Alex Gonzalez Chicago White Sox: RHP Jose Contreras Minnesota Twins: LHP J.C. Romero; RHP Joe Mays Cleveland Indians: RHP Bob Wickman; RHP Kevin Millwood Detroit Tigers: DH Dmitri Young; OF Rondell White Kansas City: 1B Mike Sweeney; RHP Jose Lima; OF Terrence Long Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim: 1B Casey Kotchman Seattle Mariners: LHP Jamie Moyer; LHP Eddie Guardado Atlanta Braves: RHP Dan Kolb Philadelphia Phillies: 1B Jim Thome; LHP Billy Wagner; RHP Ugueth Urbina; 1B Ryan Howard Milwaukee Brewers: 1B Lyle Overbay Cincinnati Reds: OF Ken Griffey Jr.; 1B Sean Casey; SS Rich Aurilia; LHP Eric Milton; C Jason LaRue Pittsburgh Pirates: LHP Mark Redman; RHP Jose Mesa San Francisco Giants: OF Marquis Grissom; OF Alex Sanchez How would 1b Ryan Howard from Philly clear waivers? He can't possibly be making that much money. I would still love to have Griff Jr/Overbay, Guardado and Wagner. We should know by the end of next month who is still in it or not. The Reds and Mariners are obvioulsy out, but hopefully Philly and the Brew Crew will be out of it by then as well. Pitching prospects/outfield prospects and Contreras should get us two of those guys I would think.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 03:55 PM) He has an OPS of almost .75 to .100 lower than Konerko or Dye, and only 17 doubles with 2 triples, while Dye has 15 doubles and Konerko has 14, not much of a difference at all. Now Huff's stats should pick up a little from hitting at the Cell instead of Dome, but remember, it's a more favorable ball park for RH power hitters than LH power hitters. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He is a known second half player. He is notorious for his 1st half slumps. Check out his career numbers and you will see what you can expect in the 2nd half. Get over his first half numbers because they don't mean s***.

Wagner Rumor from Phillies Post Game
southsideirish replied to AWhiteSoxinNJ's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 01:58 AM) I don't buy this at all. Phillies are in the race for the WC, and they've been telling their fans they won't trade Wagner. I'm calling BS. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How are they giving up? They have Marte in the pen to replace Wagner and they have Urbina to close. They gain a top level pitching prospect which they desperately need for someone who was going to leave after the season. They lost nothing in their eyes and gained a top oitchign prospect. -
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 09:49 PM) I seriously don't care what Helton said publicly, if he was irrate or not. I never claim to have any sources ever, so I seriously would have no reason to lie about it. And as for the people I've heard it from, I highly doubt they would make some s*** up like that. I'm not one to go around claiming inside information and I have no need to make up something as petty as this. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This isn't petty if you ask me. That is a very ugly accusation to make in baseball cirlces. In no way is this petty. If these people know that he did them it would have made its way out when he was threatening to sue the st louis broadcaster. He would have never issued such an embarressing apology. I can see if you are claiming he was doing supplements, but steroids? Please! His body never seemed to change and there is nothing that stands out about him that would make anyone believe he did. I smell a rat.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 09:43 PM) That dumb f*** from the St Lous broadcasting team is not a credible source, I'm talking about people that I happen to talk to who know him. That's it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Then I belive either you are a liar or the people you know are liars because he would have never received a public appology from that guy in St. Louis if it was even close to being true. Helton was IRATE when he heard this stuff. He was more pissed off than Bo Jackson when someone said something about him.
-
QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 09:36 PM) If you are willing to overpay, then get Manny Ramirez <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No thanks. He is too whacked out for me. In a couple months he will want to be traded from the White Sox.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 09:34 PM) Actually I'm not going by stats, I'm going by personal feelings and what I've heard from credible sources. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> From credible sources? The same credible source that had to issue an embarressing public apology and still may get sued by Helton because of what he said? If you still believe that he was on steroids after what happened to that dumb ass announcer in the beginning of the year then you are a fool.

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:29 PM) The Reds said they arent trading Griffey <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Really? I have never seen that reported.

QUOTE(scotty22hotty @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:57 PM) Crede>Huff (this season) what's the point? Huff's HR & OPS dropped since 2003.... just like Lowell's.... HMMMMMMMM <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Who said he would replace Crede. I for one definitely don't want Huff playing 3B unless we are in a bad situation. He would be or 1B/LF/DH

QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:50 PM) Ruth, Mantle, Schmidt (Michael Jack) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> 2 are dead. They aren't helping us. JEEZE!

QUOTE(scotty22hotty @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:47 PM) lock this thread (or move it) WE NEED BULLPEN HELP, KONG IS OUR 1B <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Kong sucks major ass and is a FA after the season. We will not be signing Anti-Clutch anytime soon. He would have no impact as to why we would not be acquiring Sweeney.
