QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 09:02 PM) So we have a lot of 40/40 prospects in the minors <{POST_SNAPBACK}> 40/40? You're talking out of your ass. How many 40/40 guys are there in the history of baseball. Calm down a little bit. Does he have both speed and power? Yes, but 40/40 is a damn big statement. 40/40 club Jose Canseco, 42 home runs and 40 stolen bases in 1988 - steroids Barry Bonds, 42 home runs and 40 stolen bases in 1996 - steroids? Alex Rodriguez, 42 home runs and 46 stolen bases in 1998

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 02:23 PM) NO NO NO NO NO NO NO BTW NO <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Just curious, but why not? McCarthy won't be in a starting rotation of Buehrle, Contreras, Garcia, Vazquez, and Garland. Uribe won't be needed if we get Tejada. Why do you not like Tejada? Just a question.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 09:46 PM) Sorry, meant to add a link. Possible 2006 Free Agents <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I would not mind signing either Gil Meche or Adam Eaton. Maybe we could trade for Eaton now. They desperately need outfield help. If we are going to send Chris Young in a deal for a pitcher I would much rather have Eaton than Vazquez. Then again I hear bad things about Meche, such as: Dec. 8 News: Meche has been actively shopped by the Mariners this offseason without success as the Pirates, Orioles, Mets and Brewers have said no thanks, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports. Spin: Usually a guy like Meche will draw interest from somebody. But the baseball world apparently suspects of Meche what the Mariners have reluctantly accepted -- Meche lacks the mental fortitude to fulfill his considerable pitching skills. Meche is pretty much known to be the unnamed player whom former pitching coach Bryan Price said he could no longer get through to, hastening Price's leave from the team

UPDATE: Tejada never wanted trade

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 04:12 PM) Stop gap? Stop gap? Keep saying that in your head, and then picture Arnie Munoz, Felix Diaz and Danny Wright in your head. Calulate how many wins that loses us and come back to me. Our team is stronger and better with our pitching intact, than it would be if we traded one of them for a little more offense. Apparently nobody watched us win the WS last year? Now everyone wants some boppers and we can "fill in" some SP <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Would you still say no if it was a guarantee that Garland is not coming back next year? You lose Garland now and McCarthy steps in the rotation. -
QUOTE(qwerty @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 10:24 PM) THe marlins gave up a pretty good prospect for him... they would likely be looking for one in return. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Such as whom? Who would we have to give up to get this guy?
-
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 09:31 PM) DO the Marlins have somebody in the bullpen they are trying to dump? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I was thinking the same thing. How about Ron Villone? Opinions? He is owed 2 million next year. It couldn't take much to get this guy. Mariners and Yanks are interested.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 05:21 PM) Yep. I'd rather have Myers who gets out almost all lefties he faces than Marte who doesnt get anyone out with regularity. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> BINGO!!!! Not only that, he walks a ton of guys. He is the most aggravating pitcher to watch on our team. Meyers is a LOOGY. That is the only reason we get him. He shouldn't, and most likely won't, ever face a right handed batter. We have other pitchers in the bullpen that can get both righties and lefties out. That would not be Meyers' job. Mackowiack for Marte? Unbelievable Kenny. I love it!!!!!!!

QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 10:33 PM) I'm just voicing my agreement. Please just show me where the dog cell phones were mentioned and I'll delete the post. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Please excuse me for not acknowledging that part of your post. The rest of what you posted was already discussed. Such as when you first get a dog they are not usually already used to a collar. They usually don't like the collar when you first put it on them either. They do a variety of things, such as scratching it and jumping wildly until they get used to it. For instance I had a dog that was 4 months old (we got her when she was 2 months old) until she stopped scratching her neck because of the collar. We tried many different fabrics and collars and she just didn't like it on her. That point you were trying to make was not a good point at all. It was also discussed that the material an ankle brace would be made out of would definitely be chew proof. Both points of your post didn't seem to be necessary and it didin't seem to contribute to the thread at all. They were already discussed and put to rest. That said, thank you for the cell phone information, another ridiculous product.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 04:21 AM) For that matter, why is the social contract between two people still dressed up in religious trappings. I agree, fight the system and get married far away from a church. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Good point.
-
QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 12:18 AM) Why do people feel it's necessary to get married in a church? I know not everyone does, but i would expect the majority does. It's odd that some people don't go to church, but want to get married there. a little help? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> (1) Tradition (2) Pleases Family (3) Religious beliefs Not in any specific order.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 07:31 PM) Speaking of rumors, you guys should read Bob Nightengale from USA Today. All of the trade rumors in his articles seem to come true. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/bbw/2005-12...ings-buzz_x.htm <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Nothing new. We have heard all of that before.

QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 06:59 PM) How about Garland for Abreu? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Very interesting. But in a way you are straying from what won the World Series. Pitching for a big bat. The Sox tried the bopping lineup approach and it won nothing. Where do you play both Abreu and Dye? Can Abreu play CF? Maybe I am wrong.
-
QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 02:26 PM) Dogs also have been raised with collars around their necks and MOST importantly, can't chew anything wrapped around their necks. An anklet on the other hand, well it better be bite/chew proof if you're going to make one. Cool story today about a new pet cell phone. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Did you read the thread at all. We have all been through this already.

Angels & Sox looking at Crawford

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 10:20 PM) Hehe, well....duh. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Just a question. Who plays CF then? I can't see Pods in CF. He was awful when I have seen him out there before. -
QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 09:56 PM) I wasn't referring so much to the actual translation of the bible from the original hebrew and greek scripts, but rather the subjective "picking and choosing" of what books/letters/gospels et al get to be part of the bible, and which do not. But even in the case of the actual literary translations, there are many instances where scholars disagree on what exactly is being said. Different religions choose which translation works best for them, and then that particular version is the "correct" one. But back to my point, the romans bickered for years over which books were "god's word," and which ones weren't. People were murdered over their opinions on the topic, and the bible changed numerous times by addition and subtraction over hundreds of years. Even today, religions differ based on which parts of the bible they choose to believe or not. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You are right about a lot of what you said, but there are many drastic changes that are made in the New World Translation to fit their particular beliefs. It was translated by someone that had no idea what he was doing. You are right that a lot of groups will quote scripture just enough to teach what they want and leave a part of it out.

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 09:52 PM) I have faith for parts of the bible, but not all. A lot of the stories are just that, stories to teach a lesson etc. Bottom line is this, without being there to see Jesus and the things that happened, I cannot be 100% sure of what I'm reading. Was there are last supper? I don't know. I didn't attend it, nor did the media. The proof is past down is writings from over 2000 years ago. No one can be sure of what they are reading. You have to have faith. i'm saying I don't have it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> See Kap. It is exactly what Tony was saying. Thank you for clearing that up Tony. I have no problem with what you believe in or don't believe in. That is your choice and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that at all. I have been through 18 years of Catholic school and I used to think the same exact way you do. I am not saying I am Catholic anymore because I don't consider myself as part of any religious group or any such organization and I don't want to be. I want to learn from the Bible and get to know God myself the way Kap has mentioned. I don't want others to influence my interpretation of the Bible or the way I read it. I do understand where you are coming from though.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 09:50 PM) Different conversation for a different time... The reality is man DID write the Bible. Let's just stick with that fact. Baby steps... you don't just slam the book in front of someone without trying to educate the background of it. That's why people don't care, because (as an example) you're trying to cram a belief down someone's throat. Stick to your own house right now, cheif. Things will look a lot better if you do. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Is that truly what you beleive? Man wrote the Bible? Not the Holy Spirit? God through the Holy Spirit wrote the Bible through man. Correct me if I am wrong please. See I am not trying to cram it down someone else's throat. However, if you believe that only man wrote the Bible then the Bible should be pretty much worthless to you. Who is another man to tell me how to live? If that is what Tony and someone else believes then that is fine. I am not trying to make them see it the way I do. That is entirely up to them. That is why Tony and others view it differently than I and I think you as well. They can not find God through reading the Bible if they don't believe that simple fact.
-
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 09:47 PM) Dude, he never said that. Don't be so defensive. You've got to open your mind a little - I know you're tense... seek the truth through the Bible... and don't let other things influence you right now. That goes for both of you. You both need to be stronger then that and not so defensive. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Kap, that is exactly what he is saying. If he isn't then I am missing his point. I would like clarification of what he is saying then. Because I am lost.
-
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 09:37 PM) I'm with you 100% of the way there. Religion messes up so many things. If you just can believe in God's grace, again, everything else is just gravy. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Tony can't read the Bible the way you can. He doesn't believe that God wrote it or influenced it. He believes that only mere men thought of it and wrote it down on paper. How do you learn or know God's grace if you can't believe in the Bible?
-
QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 09:38 PM) It was written by men...including the part you just quoted. Hey, I hi-jacked your thread. Bottom line, you need to get your wife out of this s*** and it sounds like that is going to be tough. It sure sounds like some brain-washing takes place. I feel you have to be weak to get involved in this thing, because you are looking for others to tell you what to do. She is weak and needs your strength. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Then you don't agree that it was written by God through the Holy Spirit? If this is not the case then there is no wonder you don't care what the Bible has to say. If you don't believe that then you can't believe in the Bible.
-
QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 09:10 PM) A book written by people, about a spiritual being, is where the answers lie? Come on. Next you're going to tell me that Noah existed. Why am I in this thread? :Talking to Self: Get out Satan! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If you think that the Bible was written by man then you are not a Christian. The Bible was written by God through the Holy Spirit. The men wrote as they were moved by the Holy Spirit (2 Pet. 1:21). They wrote not in words of human wisdom but in words taught by the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 2:13). You can take everything in the Bible literally if you wish. Some will take the story of Noah as literal and others will take it as a story. That is entirely up to you. If you want to believe in a story of a talking snake as literal that is entirely up to you as well.

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 08:49 PM) My opinion, which doesn't mean s*** anyway, is that people who get wrapped up in groups like these, are idiots. Maybe I'm the idiot. I spent my whole life in catholic school, and I couldn't tell you the last time I was in church. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I understand, and I used to feel the same way. I know my wife very well and I don't believe she is an idiot. I think she is just looking for something in the wrong place and was steered in this direction by someone she trusts the most, her mother. I can stand back and look at it from the outside in and that is why it scares me. She no longer has that same perspective that I do.

QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 08:40 PM) SSI, every religion has changed the bible to fit their ideas on god, jesus, etc. Every religion thinks their compilation is the "correct" one. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Examples please. I can give you many examples in the New World Translation if you like. I would like to see examples of how other organizations changed theirs just so it would suit their own beliefs. Not only that but the New World Translation was translated by someone that was not even taught in the ancient Biblical languages. It is hard to translate something that you don't even know. Here are some examples: New World Translation

QUOTE(Steff @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 06:12 PM) Protocol on leaving feedback.. Seller first when payment is made.. or buyer first when item is received? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> As a seller I leave feedback when the payment is made. As a buyer I make sure the product is what I ordered and it works properly. Then I leave feedback.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 07:26 PM) If you've already discussed this with her, which it sounds like you have, all you can do is learn as much as you can about this religion, which it sounds like you are trying to do. If you can discuss from a knowledgeable position, that can only help. If none of that helps, absolutely go seek some counseling. It truly seems like you love her and care for her, so present it that way. You are on the right path. Do everything you can and if it doesn't work out (and I hope it does), you can at least walk away knowing you did your best and tried everything. And that is coming from someone who has been divorced and didn't feel like my ex did anything to try to keep the marriage together. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That was very cool of you to say. Thank you!
