How is our 3B prospect Josh Fields looking? How far away is he from contributing?
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 22, 2005 -> 08:23 PM) The Marlins are very serious about moving Cabrera to 3B, it's his natural position and was considered a damn good defensive 3B while playing in the minors. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You are correct. That is the reason they are freeing up 3B. They want Cabrera over there. They supposedly have minor league OFers waiting to come up to take his place in RF. I can't remember names, but I know that is their plan.

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Nov 22, 2005 -> 05:45 PM) That's how great ESPN 1000 reporting is... Levine was on, said that Phillies may be asking for one of those 2, but the it's highly unlikely the Sox will give either one of those players up. Basically saying they know El Duque can't holdup all year and they want 6 starters again. Then on the next update they don't change their script and basically said Sox and Phillies are talking trade and the names involved are A-Row and Contreras or B-Mac, with no mention that those are unlikely to be the names. FWIW, he also said any deal for Delgado with Marlins would likely have to include B-Mac. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No he didn't. He said that any deal for PIERRE with the Marlins would likely have to include B-Mac or a top notch pitching prospect. He then went on to say that that is why the Cubs have the advantage for PIERRE, because the Cubs have a lot of top pitching prospects. He never said that is what it would take for Delgado.

Bob Nightengale: Sox Tell Phills They Want Thome

QUOTE(Gldfinger5 @ Nov 22, 2005 -> 02:31 PM) Maybe this has been brought up, but is anybody worried about Thome's production in the past possibly being with the help of roids??? Not accussing, just asking opinions. I know he was hurt last year and that's why his numbers dropped, but you never know. I'd hate to send off a few guys for him and receive no offensive results. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Simply, NO. -
QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 22, 2005 -> 04:25 PM) Mueller might be brought in as a DH/back-up 3B. I HIGHLY doubt he's being brought in as a utility player. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He would fill the role of Geoff Blum, but even better. Why not?

Bob Nightengale: Sox Tell Phills They Want Thome

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 05:40 PM) I know Rock, and im giving you the fire. Heres the deal, IMO. Frank is just as much as an injury risk as Thome is, if not more. So obviously in both cases, you need some insurance. However, your argument is instead of getting Thome for lets say 8, 9 mil a season(obviously Philly is paying alot of it) we get Frank for about 3 mil. We now have 4 or 5 million dollars that we can play around with because Thome is not here. We can spread that money out, but what else do we need? Really the only thing that needs to be addressed is DH, 1b, and a LHRP if Marte gets moved. So my next question would be if we have that 4 or 5 million to spend on a backup for Frank, what player are we going to pay 4 or 5 million to sit on the bench and wait for Frank to break his ankle.... You follow me? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Frank is a MUCH bigger injury risk than Thome. I love Frank, but there is no comparison there. How much longer will he be able to put all that weight on a surgically repaired ankle/foot? I am not saying he is out of shape or overweight. I am just saying he is a big huge man. I strongly doubt he will last the entire year. I just don't see how it is possible. Especially at his age. -
Levine says there's a lot of interest in Marte

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 08:41 PM) Wheres he gonna play? Where is all the money going to come from. He would be the highest paid player on the team by far. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He is going to play 1st or DH with Paulie playing 1st or DH. He is a lefthanded power bat that they needed all last year. The money will come from not the subtractions of Carl Everett - 4 mil and Frank Thomas - 8 mil. That frees up 12 mil for the DH spot that they spent on last year. I am sure they can take on a bit of extra salary to fit Delgado in. Plus I am sure the Marlins will have to eat a few mil to unload him. He is not a 16 million dollar a year player. Juggernaut, we need a lefthanded power bat as much, if not more, than we need a #2 hitter. I would concetrate on this first and then go out and get my #2 hitter. -
QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 07:20 PM) Any people good with technology. Can you please pm me if you know how to turn tivo recording into DVD's or is that a pipe dream. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> hook it up to a media center PC or go buy a TiVO with DVD burner on it. It is that simple.

I voted for Tropicana. It is the worst place I have ever been to to watch game. It feels as if I am watching a baseball game in a warehouse or a garage. It would be like going to the Odeum in Villa Park to watch a baseaball game. I don't understand why Tiger Stadium is up there. It is not even open anymore. If it is supposed to be Comerica Park then I don't understand that either. I enjoy going to that park. I think it is a very nice place to watch a game and the field seems awesome.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 07:29 PM) Ok, I don't want to brag, but here is my list of parks I've been to: Old and New Parks in Milwaukee Old and New Parks in Cincinnati HHH Dome Comerica Park Jacobs Field The Cell Wrigley Fenway Yankee Stadium Tropicana Field Marlins Stadium Turner Field Busch Stadium Skydome And of these parks, Wrigley is so easily #1 it's not even funny.....with Tropicana 2nd and the Hump Dome 3rd. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What's wrong with Comerica Park. I have been there a few times and I think it is very nice. What do you not like about it?

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 03:22 PM) If we are so hell bent on getting Delgado, did anyone calculate the salary rammifications. Im almost certain that becuase of his salary the next few years, this would make it very difficult to resign paulie. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That is not a great assessment. Carlos Delgado signed a 4 year 52 million dollar deal last year. 13 million a year. Carl Everett made 4 million last year. Frank Thomas made 8 million last year. That is 12 million dollars last year for the DH spot. 1 million more for a left handed power hitter? Plus the Marlins may pick something up. I am sure that they will still be able to resign Paulie while also getting Delgado. I know we still have to sign AJ, Garland, and Crede, but the payroll will be increased so that we can afford them plus Paulie. -
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 04:16 AM) Not even a doubt in my mind. Aaron Rowand >>>> Jim Edmonds defensively and its an easy call to make. Torri Hunter and Andruw Jones are two of the CF's that are head and shoulders above Aaron. Aside from that Mike Cameron is one I'd rate rather similarly to Aaron (and I don't know how Cameron did defensively this year). Also Mark Kotsay (who I think is pretty damn good). Jim Edmonds isn't as good as any of them. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I agree completely with you. I never thought Edmonds was a great CF. He made those fantastic catches because he was getting bad jumps. Great CFers, or any great OFer for that matter, barely ever dive. They usually get great jumps and take excellent paths to get to the ball that there is no need to dive. How often did you ever see Griff Jr. dive? How about Andruw Jones? Mike Cameron? Torii Hunter? Not half as much as Edmonds. Edmonds has always been overrated due to his bad jumps. He makes the easy play look spectacular. Kind of Sammy Sosa like, but he is better than Sosa ever was. By the way, I agree that Mark Kotsay is a damn good defensive CFer. I would put him above Rowand and Cameron. Cameron is one of the best as well though. Grady Sizemore is pretty good too. I only saw him a couple times live, but he looked damn good to me, even though he made that costly error at the end of the season.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 09:04 PM) The really good ones play somewhat shallow though. Hunter plays a pretty shallow CF, and if I remember correctly, A Jones, and B Williams at their prime played VERY shallow. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So what is your point? If your point is that there are very few really good defensive center fielders out there then I would agree. There aren't. So what is your point here? YASNY is also correct in stating that the coaching staff is also at fault for playing Rowand so deep. They could bring him in at anytime. So if Ozzie looks disappointed, maybe it is not at Rowand, but at the fact that a little blooper fell in for a hit and not a hard hit ball. If it happens consistently it can be very frustrating.

QUOTE(bighurt2719 @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 08:05 PM) haha, thats a huge slap in the face, man. you better make sure before you say that to someone. thats like congratulating a really fat woman on being pregnant when she's just fat. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So just let me get this STRAIGHT. You are equating obesity or what you think of as a "huge slap in the face" with being gay? I don't see it. Maybe you should look into why you think that. You should look into why you think that it is such an insult to be homosexual. Evaluate yourself. It is not good to think so low of a certain group of people as you do.
-
QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 03:44 PM) I don't think there was an offer...just a Yankees inquiry. The problem is, what do they have that we want? Maybe we can trade him for A-ROD? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Very true. Maybe a sign and trade of left-handed power hitter Matsui. I am guessing they would just offer minor league prospects for him.
-
Does anyone here know what the Yankees offered for Aaron Rowand? What exactly did we turn down?
-
Did anyone happen to mention that Abreu is Venezuelan? That makes it all the more a possibility.
-
If everyone thinks North sucks then how the hell is he on the radio? Who listens to this guy. That is all I want to know. WHO LISTENS TO HIM?
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 09:26 PM) I've got a Tivo and a digital RCN box which both delay the games a second or 2 on television, so listening to the radio broadcast while watching on TV is out of the question. Besides, I like to hear a few "he gones" during the game. And with all due respect to John Rooney,(whoever they hire will be a downgrade) if I am only able to listen to the game on the radio, I will listen no matter who the PBP man is, and no matter who is doing the color. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I have my Media Center PC hooked up to my entertainment system and TV and then I also have a Radio Shark. Radio Shark enables me to TiVO the radio broadcast so I can delay it. If you wanted to listen to the radio broadcast while watching it on TV, this is the way to delay the radio broadcast.
-
QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 09:20 PM) No offense to Ed.. but I'm likely not going to listen at all. John made the broadcast for me. It wont be the same without him. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I whole-heartedly agree. There is no way it will be the same without Rooney. He was great. Is there any word on who they will get to replace him? I have heard former White Sox Lyle Mouton rumored, but that is about it. Plus I had no idea Farmer was going to do play by play. I really don't think he is cut out for that. I think he is better suited as the color guy. This news really sucks about Doggins too. If North gets the job I will never listen to the pre and post game show. I can't stand that man.
-
QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 09:46 PM) What is the outlook for him? What kind of scouting reports are out there? How many tools does he have? I know we saw him this year, but I don't really know what to expect from him. What are the thoughts on trading ARow and starting this guy in Center? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> if he is a good defensive CF'er then I would do it. AROW was not very good offensively this year, but defensively, when it counted, he was superb.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 06:47 PM) Good luck with everything SSI. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thank you sir, the same to you.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 06:44 PM) Seriously, you need to give it up. Besides your horrible arguments, your repeated insults about thinking that im gay is really pretty immature and stupid. I suggest you maybe stop posting for awhile to collect your thoughts, thanks. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You consider it an insult to be thought of as gay? Why is that? Maybe you should think about why you feel that is such an insult. I really had no idea you were straight. I apologized for that. I find nothing wrong with you being gay or straight. I don't know why you find one an insult and one not. Maybe you should mull that over.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 06:39 PM) Dude, give it up. Thats now 3 homo remarks. If I was gay I would take offense, because you insinuate that its derogitory. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Where do I insinuate such a thing? Again, you are reading into things that just are not there. I really thought you were gay. That is why I even put that in there., That you can buy you and your boyfriend tickets. I thought you had a boyfriend. Sorry that I was mistaken. It is no different than if I thought you were straight and told you to buy your own tickets for you and your girlfriend. However, I had no idea that you were straight. I thought for sure that you are definitely gay. Sorry for the confusion.

QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 03:40 PM) You and your homosexual refrences are ignorant bulls***. MO, a vacation would be nice. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Huh? Where did I say it was a bad thing that he has a boyfriend? If you think it is a bad thing or he thinks it is a bad thing or anyone else here thinks that it is a bad thing that he has a boyfriend then shame on you guys. I am totally fine with his sexuality and his decisions in life. I am not judging him. He is what he is and I accept him for that. Why are you so down on a man having a boyfriend? Why do you think that is a bad thing? By the way Rock Raines, I have come back with two posts now that you can't come back from. You apparently want to read into something that is not there. My first post in months and this guy tries to bash me and goes off like 3 different times before I can even respond? That is not necessary. And Steff was right the first time. You were not going to like any answer you received. It was just something you wanted to start up. You did, great job. As far as personal attacks go, Rock Raines started with these. Read his first post to me: So if you are going to suspend me for personal attacks then I suggest the same suspension for Mr. Rock Raines. There was no need for the way he posted to me, but he wanted to start a fight and he did.
