  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 02:52 PM) Robinson would have won in a landslide. Remember everyone say the Nationals were the biggest surprise in all of baseball....even more than the Sox? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think you are completely wrong. No way it would have been a landslide and I believe Cox would have wond it. At the same time they were saying that they were also saying it was luck because they had less runs scored than runs given up. They knew it was just a matter of time until it caught up with them and the BRaves or Marlins took over.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 04:15 AM) Wow, do I hate that response. I never knew they give out the Manager of the Year at the end of July? Maybe Frank Robinson might want to give his Manager of the Year trophy back from the end of June? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You really think at the endo fo June Frank Robinson would have won? I still think it would have went to Bobby Cox for keeping his team in it with a bunch of injuries and a whole lot of rookies playing in key positions for him. One of the managers Ozzie learned from by the way. Cox would have had my vote.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 04:04 AM) Are you watching the same games I do? Ozzie's one of the least proactive managers in baseball. Yes, the timing is weird today because of his quick hook with Garland. However, Ozzie always seems shocked that one of his pitchers is getting in trouble late in the game. Instead of anticipating a pitcher possibly having trouble the 4th time around the lineup, he ends up waiting too long, and either the pitcher gives up runs, or the reliever gets brought in for a tough situation. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> s***, that is not even close to the same. That is having confidence and trust in your SP that our other manager never had. Proactive is getting Shingo out of the closer role before he does more damage to the team or Billy Koch last year. I haven't seen too many times when our SP has had that much trouble and neither have the rest of by looking at the starting rotation's ERA. I don't know what the hell games you are watching.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 03:58 AM) Because the last thing I want to see this organization do is to start planning their postseason before it's even close to being a sure thing. I actually do trust KW to be proactive with things. Not so sure I could say the same about Ozzie if he was in control <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Are you kidding? Ozzie is a very proactive manager. His style is very proactive. I still don't understand why it pisses you off, you are contradicting yourself. If you know that this is what they have to say and that it really has no effect on what they are actually doing then why is it pissing you off? No one is planning anything before it's a sure thing. Like you said, they have to say it, I don't see how it pisses you off.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 03:54 AM) Wow. I even said that Ozzie has to say this to be politically correct. However, Ozzie and KW have made a ton of statements the last few weeks saying that there was no need to make a move with the record that this team had. And trust me, the players no more than anyone where the holes on the team are. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Then if you know this I don't know why the hell it would piss you off.
  6. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 03:51 AM) I'll just be glad when the deadline passes, regardless of what happens. I think all this speculation is taking a toll on the team. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It is taking a toll on me too. I can't stop listening to the damn sports radio or stay off of mlb.com, espn.go.com, and soxtalk.com. I am always on those sites and listening to the radio, sleeping with it on, working out with it on, eating lunch in my office with it on. I can't stop and the anticipation is killing me. If we make a trade it will be like Christmas morning. I just hope we get what I asked Santa for. Jason Schmidt, Omar Vizquel, and a left handed power bat. Griffey or Huff will do just fine.
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 03:36 AM) In tomorrow's tribune, Ozzie says no trade is imminent, and that the roster is fine for the stretch run. Even though I know he HAS to say that....it still pisses me off. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That should never piss you off. It should make you respect him. Can you imagine how his players would respond if he said that his team has to go out and get a better hitting shortstop, a top notch pitcher, bullpen help, and a left handed power hitter? I would look at my manager and say what the f*** are you talking about? How can we need all of that and we are still 30 some games above .500 and have a double digit lead in our division? He has to say this because he is the leader of the team, you can't lead if you show you don't believe in what you have. That is just the way it is.
  8. QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 03:22 AM) Don't be pissed at KW if nothing happens. Takes two parties to get something done and history shows KW goes to great lengths to make moves. We all know he is trying. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Great insight. Thanks!
  9. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 01:46 AM) It looks as if, at the moment, there are going to be NO SIGNIFICANT TRADES before Sunday's deadline. 1. Florida informed Boston that Arroyo and Sanchez won't get AJ Burnett. Since they haven't accepted whatever the Sox may have offered already... 2. Lyle Overbay is definitely not on the market. 3. Jason Schmidt? No way. Ditto for Omar Vizquel. 4. Eddie Guardado? Jamie Moyer? Nothing going on. 5. Billy Wagner. f**edaboudit. 6. Aubrey Huff? Danys Baez? Too pricey. 7. Fill in the rest. Does that mean there really won't be any trades? I DOUBT IT. A very interesting thing may happen between now and Sunday. The selling teams that have been asking the moon may finally decide to sell, and sellers market may turn a bit into a buyer's market, or at least balance out. I expect tomorrow to remain quiet, but Saturday may be the day. I just hope that KW doesn't do anything stupid in the hopes of doing something "great." I'll be more than happy if after Sunday at 4 pm we still have BMac, Young, Jenks, Politte, Cotts, Sweeney, Fields, etc. I wouldn't oppose injecting some new energy through another pitcher and a lefty bat, but if it doesn't happen, I think these Sox will just figure out how to play better and beat all comers. GO SOX! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Are you just speculating or is there actually news to back up this information? Jason Schmidt and Omar Vizquel is looking more likely by the day if you ask me. All they do is keep on losing. They are now 14 games under .500 with a worse record than the Pittsburgh Pirates and 7 games out of first in the NL West. That is pretty sad. Aubrey Huff is too pricey? I guess we will have to see if they drop those crazy demands. I would not mind seeing BMac, Anderson, Sweeney, Fields, or Marte gone. WIN NOW!!!!
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 02:10 AM) Cantu would be one of the best hitters on our team if we got him. The guy has a chance to have a very good offensive career. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That may be so. But he is a hack at 3B, just absolutely awful. I will take Crede's mediocre bat and outstanding defense over Cantu any day.
  11. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 02:09 AM) i dont think huff would be a 3b. i think everett would be pretty much the fulltime DH. then i think huff slides into everetts old role in which huff would spell pods, rowand (with pods in center) dye, konerko and maybe crede one day a week. maybe thats too much jockeying around with one player <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I disagree. If they do acquire Huff he will be the primary DH because this offense desperately needs a lefthanded power bat and that is why they would be acquiring Huff. Huff would be the DH who could also give Konerko/Crede/Pods a day of rest. This move would also most likely designate Gload for assignment.
  12. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 02:06 AM) I really have no interest in Cantu. Huff however I do like as a DH/1B/LF not to be an everday thirdbaseman. How's that? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I completely agree with your post.
  13. Huff did not play at all today against Boston. Could he be on his way? Blah, its probably just a day off because of a day game after a night game.
  14. QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 07:16 PM) I'm gonna have to agree with the "-71" version here. Almost every single Sox player is hitting under his career average. Podsednik had hit well over .300 his rookie season. Last year, as he himself admits, he was trying to do too much and got caught up hitting home runs (12 I believe). As you can see, this year he has 0 homers in a homer friendly ballpark. He's realized his role, it's not to hit homers and drive in people but to get on base and go-go-go. I would accredit his reinvented way of approaching his hitting (decidedly his own revelation) rather than Greg worn-out-my-time-here Walker. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So you are going to pick and choose who Walker helps and shows the correct approach to? Why is Walker not creditied with Pods' reinvented way of hitting, but is credited with Paulie's and Uribe's suck ass way of hitting? Pods was a career .275 hitter before this year. He also had 9 home runs in 2003. He is now hitting .300 with no home runs. If Walker teaches low average and high power then why isn't he hitting more home runs? Even with his high average in 2003 he still had more homers than he does this year. I will never understand how some people can give credit for one thing, but not for another. It just doesn' make sense to me at all.
  15. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 06:57 PM) Okay I will explain this slowly. The Brewers won the trade because they got a player who is more talented than all of the players we got in return. Yes we saved money, but the amount of money we saved was not proportionate to the amount of talent that we gave up. The trade for the White Sox to have won, would to have included a much better prospect. Carlos Lee is going to be an All-Star quite frequently for the rest of his career depending on where he ends up. Pods may never make another All-Star game, Vizcaino has been an average reliever, Hinton will be nothing. Did the White Sox benefit? Yes of course, but what does that have to do with the price of apples? We sold something with high value for things with lower value. The point of the Brewer's fans post was that they wanted to get rid of Pods, they were sellers, and we way over paid for him. I agree, I think Lee was more valuable than what we got for him. I think if you go back to the time of the trade you will see most people thought that it was going to be Pods, Viz, + some thing worth while. ::Shrugs:: SB <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I believe we also wanted wanted to desperately get rid of Lee. At least that is what I read. He is a good RBI and power guy, but a terrible baseball player. To say one is more talented than the other is a ridiculous statement to me. They are both very talented players just in different facets of the game. Lee is a good RBI and power guy where as Pods is a great baserunner and leadoff man. He also has the baseball intelligence Lee has never and will never have. I have also never seen Pods take a play off or loaf over to the stands in order to catch, or in Lee's case miss, a fly ball. Pods is all hustle. Like it or not, part of the deal was the money we saved as well. Neither team won this trade. Both teams received what they had hoped and it worked out great for each team. Sometimes teams have different needs and receive players to fill those needs and it works out for all involved. That was the case in this trade.
  16. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 05:34 AM) Hello Mr. Overbay my name is Greg Walker, I need to talk to you about your high BA and low power. I have worked with lots of hitters on the whitesox and have a fool proof method of giving you more power for just a slight drop in BA. 2006 Overbay hits 30 homers and has a 212 BA LOL <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That is hysterical. No please explain Podsedniks numbers.
  17. Do some people just don't know anything at all?
  18. Score (George Offman) just reported that the Brewers INSIST that they will not be trading Overbay.
  19. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 06:44 PM) beat you to it <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I didn't know it was reported already. I should probably try reading a little better. Thanks for posting it.
  20. This just reported by The Score 670 AM: The Marlins deal no longer includes Mike Lowell. The White Sox would have to agree to an extension with AJ Burnett before the trade is completed. The White Sox are scouting both Lyle Overbay and Aubrey Huff to replace Frank Thomas.
  21. QUOTE(Da Sox @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 06:13 PM) Wouldn't Trading Damaso be a bad thing..? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Have you seen him pitch recently? I think keeping him would be a bad thing.
  22. QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 04:28 PM) I'm not sure if this exactly the right place for this thread, considering I have heard no source of information hearing the White Sox would be interested. I know that Thome is still on the DL, but with the emergence of top prospect Ryan Howard, does anyone think that the Phillies may just want to dump his salary? Considering that rumors are that Frank may be out for the season, I think Kenny should seriously consider acquiring Thome, a powerful left handed hitter is exactly what this team needs, and he could DH. Once again, I did not hear that the White Sox are interested in Thome, I am just curious to see if any of you would like to see Kenny go after him. CWSOX45 P.S. I know his stats really suck this year, which makes me wonder if we could get him for next to nothing. Not to mention his .286 career average at U.S. Cellular Field <{POST_SNAPBACK}> :puke
  23. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 11:08 PM) these people are f***in with my head so much i dont know what to believe. about 3 hours ago i thought this deal was done. now everything in the national media is saying that it wont get done. gammons said in his article today that it is reportedly known that burnett would sign a long term deal if he was dealt to boston but probably not if he was dealt to the chisox. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> By the national media do you mean the East coast biased media? I would wonder why Yankee and Boston media people don't think the White Sox will get him. Stick with the local media.
  24. QUOTE(southsider17 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 08:53 PM) Alot of seriousness for a baseball internet board. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Steroid accusations are very ugly things to accuse ballplayers of. I would say that is a very serious issue with me.
  25. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 07:09 PM) That is flat out wrong though! Koch was hitting 100 MPH regularly in Toronto. He started losing velocity when he came to Oakland. The end of his year in Oakland was when things started falling apart for him. For your circumstancial evidence to work, Balco has to have a center in Toronto. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Exactly
