  1. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 04:57 PM) You've got the contract wrong. Griffey 2001-2008 $12.5M ($6.5M deferred w 0 interest until 2009). Griffey 2009 : team option $4M buyout OR $16.5M ($6.5M deferred w int). The deferred payment period is 2009-2025. You have to understand the Giants are not in a position to where they have to sell. With Bonds being the meal ticket, the seats are sold for 2005 & with him being on the menu in 2006 they will have no trouble selling seats next year. From the Giants perspective making a trade is all about making the team that much better in 2006. So young talent is not what they are after. If you check out the Giants rumor pages it sure seems like they are waiting for the Rangers to make them an offer. They seem to be locking in on Soriano to replace Durham at 2B. They look at the potential of Soriano - Bonds - Alou in 2006 & feel that $10.5M on Schmidt is not a bad deal. Of course that's only if they can get Soriano. We don't have anything like Soriano that they need so the only trades will be doing with them are minor. If you are interested in these players: Brett Tomko, Kirk Rueter, J.T. Snow, Ray Durham and Edgardo Alfonzo & your not the GM of the Rangers the Giants are taking your calls. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That is IF Bonds is healthy AND can play the field. There has been much speculation that the Giants will have to trade Bonds to an American League club because after so many knee surgeries he will only be able to DH. If he is indeed traded to an American League club, then where do they go? They are not going to get a guy of Bonds' caliber in return, they will most likely receive prospects and will have to rebuild. Neither of us know the fate of Barry Bonds, so I won't even pretend that I do. However, the speculation is there and after missing an entire season trying to comeback from the injury and failing it seems like playing the field would not be in the best interest of Barry Bonds. If in fact he is their meal ticket and the 2006 season depends on him then they will be in some deep s*** if he doesn't come back and he is not able to play the field.
  2. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 04:42 PM) They offered Colon a contract similar to the Angels except MUCH was deferred. I believe that they offer they gave Maggs had a good portion deferred as well. One other, I could be mistaken, but didn't Frank's original deal prior to the performance clause being enacted have a large portion deferred? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You are correct about all of those. I never once stated that they had a player ont he current roster iwth a deferred contract, but I did say they loved them. They do offer them and if they didn't lvoe them then why would they offer them? You have your own agenda Honda and that is fine with me, but don't tell methey don't offer them and that they don't love them, because they do.
  3. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 03:18 PM) If we trade Contreras for Burnett, we CAN'T flip him for Wagner. We'd be back in the 5th starter black hole. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> EXACTLY!!!!! Then what do you do? Your creating a bigger hole by filling another. It just doesn't make sense.
  4. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 03:55 PM) Hermanson, as a closer over the course of a season, is an unknown quantity ... and that's a healthy Hermanson. He's been damn good, but can we expect that to continue and can we count on him with his back problems? That is a reason I think they might not be able to keep it up. If hermy goes down or becomes ineffective, then the whole bullpen has to shuffled, on the fly ... again. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Very good point, but if he is healthy where do you put him? Who do you let go? Vizcaino? Jenks? Is it really worth giving up a lot to get Wagner?
  5. QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 03:36 PM) I agree with you, but I just can't see the Sox risking Dye at first. If Gload plays first, then the Sox have Pods, Arow, Griffey, Everett, Thomas, and Dye. Two of them would have to sit. If I could ask KW for 2 players, it would be Vizquel and Wagner. Pods Vizquel Iguchi Thomas/Everett Dye Gload/Konerko ARow AJ Crede <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't believe we need Wagner. I think our bullpen is very good and there is no reason it can't keep it up. I see no reason why Dye can't play first base. I know he only played there once this year but he looked like a natural. I am not counting on Frank being healthy so I am taking him out of the equation. Dye, Everett, or Griff could DH an Gload or Dye can play first. Everett has proved to be very valuable off the bench and as a pinch hitter. Pods LF Iguchi 2B Griffey CF/RF/DH Dye DH/RF/1B ARow CF/RF Gload 1B/RF/LF AJ C Crede 3B Vizquel SS Bench Pablo 3B/SS/2B/LF - can also pinch run Crazy Carl OF/DH Widger C Frank - can only DH Timo OF /Willie, valuable pinch runner, can't hit but can play SS?/2B/CF/LF
  6. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 03:33 PM) Same here, I would love to ship out Uribe as part of a deal for Omar. That 260ish OBP by Uribe is a f***ing joke. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How were we ever worried about Crede when we have jokes like Konerko and Uribe on this team? Granted Uribe is good defensively, but is he worth a 260 OBP? I think not. And Konerko, how the hell is he an All-Star? .251 AVG? Clogs up the basepaths and only 58 RBI with 22 home runs? Doesn't he have Iguchi and Pods hitting in front of him and getting on base all the time? How the hell does he have 22 home runs and only 58 RBI?
  7. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 03:29 PM) But when Juan Uribe is hot he can carry a team. Why do we need Grif? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Of course he can carry a team, when is he going to get hot? Plus I would be trading Uribe to SF in order to get Vizquel.
  8. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 03:14 PM) Well there is a well thought out post.. Where was I personally attacking you in regards to trades? Look I want Schimdt on this team, but not going to happen.. We need a bat more than anything.. Execpt I won't want Griffey..If anything I would want to make a Run at Huff, He can play 3b,1b and OF. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Personally attacking? Your harsh in your face style of posting comes off as ridiculous and childish. If you don't like something at least have a point and some sort of evidence to back up these ridiculous remarks. Don't just make a post to make a post. Have some sort of substance to your post. Try calming down a bit before posting and think things through. Your assumption is that Schmidt is not going to happen. From my experiences with your posts, YOUR assumptions are usually not right. As far as Huff, TB is asking for a ton in return. I would rather have Griffey Jr. and he has playoff experience.
  9. QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 02:25 PM) I heard that that some scouts are worried about his arm though. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Who? Jason Schmidt or Odalis Perez? Jason Schmidt has been pitching well of late and is back throwing in the mid 90s. I think scouts are ok with this now.
  10. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 02:51 PM) We should jsut trade Pauly and Timo to the Cubs for Derek Lee Then trade Jose Contreas Crede and Uribe to Oak for Harden Chavez and Crosby <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ok, where have I made crazy suggestions? Maybe you should trade in your brain for a peanut and you would be a whole lot smarter.
  11. QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 02:08 PM) I gotta agree with you on everything. I feel the same way. It seems like everytime, especially lately, konerko has a runer on and he chops it to the third baseman for the out. There were also some infield hits, in particular in the Detroit series that any normal baserunner would beat out but of course this guy is always in slo-mo. We cannot count on him in the clutch. We wont trade him but I hope KW doesnt give him a contract after the season. As for Uribe, i dont know what we can do but we gotta do something. He cannot hit anything unless it is straight in the middle of the plate. Schmidt's price is ridiculous. On ESPNNEWS they said the Giants were asking Garland, everyday lineup guy, and one of the top prospects. I still think we should get Odalis Perez. OR it doesnt need to be a top-of-the-line pitcher either. I was listening to the Sox Post on AM1000 and this guy made allota sense. We gotta make sure El Duque is there in September and into the playoffs. With that said he mentioned Gil Meche and Mark Redman. This guy was using his head. With Uribe and Harris, I hope we see the end of them in chicago. KW should get a proven UTIL guy. I dont know who is available but Graff woulda looked nice in Chicago again. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think the Giants asked for Garland at first but that has been over a month ago. Negotiations always start out by asking for a lot and you usually work towards an agreable middle ground. s***, if I were the Giants I would have asked for Garland too. No hurt in asking, all that happens is you get told no. I think that was a good starting point and if we can move Contreras, Uribe, and prospects for Schmidt and Vizquel I do it right now.
  12. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 01:58 PM) 1) Can't see the Reds wanting Konerko unless they can unload Casey which is doubtful, and they don't have much in replacements for Konerko if he leaves as a FA anyway. 2) I'll post the contract. 9-Year worth 116.5M- he will make between 2000 and 2008 a salary of 12.5M each year- + in 2000, 5.5M of salary deferred till 2009- + deal includes 2009 Team Option or a 4M buyout- + 6.5M of 2001-2009 salaries deferred to subsequent years between 2009 and 2024 3) It depends on Sabean's likeness for Contreras and Uribe. But is KW ready to give up on Juan already after signing him to a 3 year deal in the off-season? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> 1) that is why we would need another team to make a 3 way deal. 2) Ok, but either way it seems like the Sox love deferred contracts. Like I said that would seem like a perfect fit. 3)I would say that he would be and should be if he likes Vizquel, which I think he does. Odalis Perez is already on the block after just signing a 3 year deal with the Dodgers so I would say YES!!!!!!!!
  13. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 01:53 PM) 1) San Francisco won't want Paul Konerko since they already have J.T Snow and Lance Niekro. 2) Ken Griffey Jr. has a deferred contract that requires payments until 2025. That's a no. 3) Contreras, Uribe and a good prospect (maybe even 2) for Schmidt and Vizquel is probably going to be around the mark. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> 1) would cincy take Konerko? Supposedly Casey is on the block. That is where I had him going, not SF. Maybe a 3 way deal with someone that wants either Konerko or Casey? 2) who cares? Cincy may eat a little of it to move him. Plus I thought the White Sox were all about deferred contracts? Aren't we still paying Julio Cruz? This seems like it would be a perfect fit. 3) That sounds great to me. DO IT!!!!!!!
  14. I am so sick of Paul Konerko coming up in pressure situations and popping it up or striking out everysingle f'n time. He has been doing this for a while now. He is like the anti-Crede. Crede comes up in the late innings and comes through a lot! Konkerko almost never does. Crede gets a lot of bad publicity for not being a great 3B. Take a look around the American League and you will see we have one of the best all around 3B in the league. Paul Konerko should get the negative pub Crede gets. He wets his pants in pressure situations and is hardly the player Crede is at 1B. Get rid of him if you can! We need a legit #4 hitter. We need Ken Griffey Jr.!!!!! I am also sick of Juan Uribe coming up and constantly swinging for the fences. His all or nothing aproach is killing me. I would love to get someone in there that will make more contact, get on base, and at the same time not lose any defense. I want Omar Vizquel. The bullpen looks fine. How many bullpens have 4 guys that they can count on almost every single time out. Cotts, Marte, Politte, and Hermanson are all guys we can count on. Jenks is coming along and I am starting to haev a lot of confidence in him as well. Point is we don't need much more there. I would also like to get one more stud SP. The Count is so hit and miss that it really scares me. I would feel much more comfortable with a proven stud pitcher where the Count is. Hello Jason Schmidt. The bullpen looks fine. My question is what would it take to get Schmidt, Vizquel, and Griffey Jr. on this team? ALl seem to be good guys and it shouldn't ruin team chemistry at all. If it won't take anything more than Count, Konerko and prospects then I would love to do this deal. I wouldn't mind losing Uribe and Harris from our ML roster as well. Please tell me that we can do these deals and realistically what it would take to get these guys?
  15. QUOTE(hi8is @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 10:48 PM) i say get O. Perez from the Dodgers! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I said the same thing before and people here said that the Dodgers weren't looking to trade him because they just signed him during the off season. I like him.
  16. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 10:39 PM) If I were the sox i wouldn't trade for AJ in the first place. He'll be on the DL for 2 of the next 4 yrs at least <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Very true. From what I have seen I would give up B-Mac in the Schmidt deal if that lands him for us. If I have to give up B-Mac and Anderson that is fine with me, but I want Vizquel in the deal as well. Contreras, B-Mac, Shingo, Brian Anderson for Schmidt and Vizquel looks nice to me. If they wanted to throw in Hawkins as well that would be fine by me, but I am not sure how they feel about him. If they just wanted to dump some salary off in the deal I can see them doing it and that would be fine by me. I know, I know, where would they fit on the roster? 3 MLB players coming in and only 1 leaving. Well say goodbye to Contreras, Willie, and Timo and say hello to Schmidt, Omar, and Hawkins. Nice staff of (1) Buehrle (2) Garcia (3) Schmidt (4) Garland (5) El Duque Vicaino RH Jenks RH Hawkins RH Cotts LH Politte Righty setup Marte Lefty setup Hermanson Closer
  17. I just read in my Sports Weekly that the Mariners are looking to trade Randy Winn and Ron Villone but will more than likely hold on to Eddie Guardado and Raul Ibanez. It doesn't look like Guardado is going anywhere.
  18. I just read over my Sports Weekly and it states that "The White Sox are willing to give up pitching prospect Brandon McCarthy in a trade for the Marlins' A.J. Burnett, but they won't surrender him in a deal for Giants starter Jason Schmidt. The White Sox will move Triple-A outfielder Brian Anderson for Jason Schmidt." "The Giants, according to several general managers, plan to move Schimdt by July 31." "The Mariners are expected to trade outfielder Randy Winn and reliever Ron Villone, but they likely will keep closer Eddie Guardado and outfielder Raul Ibanez." "Closer Billy Wagner wants out if the Phillies drop out of the race." "The Tigers are taking offers for pitcher Jason Johnson and outfielder Rondell White." "The Dodgers are taking offers for left-hander Odalis Perez, who's in the first year of a three-year, $24million deal."
  19. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 07:23 PM) I'm sorry but I will not be willing to part with top quality for Schmidt..... He has a road ERA of 5.22 and batting against of .297... The AL would absolutely destroy him and in the cell can you spell ERA of 6... I'm sorry for the big font but i'm so sick of the people who say, he hit 94 on the gun he must be good now... He was mediocore before the Giants and steroids and I wouldn't put it past him to be mediocore now.. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Can I see some evidence of this steroid abuse besided the fact that he plays on the same team as Barry Bonds, Marvin Benard, Benito Santiago and resides on the same coast as BALCO. Can I please see a little bit more before you start making such childish comments and ugly accusations?
  20. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 03:36 PM) Yeah... the fact that he was only mediocore before joining the same team with Bonds and Balco is just a coincidence right... After an already long major league career he suddenly just found all this talent... Yeah right keep dreaming.... Ohh and also Benito Santiago, Marvin Benard... think of all the players the Giants had in the same time frame that have used... sorry but I perfer to live in the real world... I will once again say the same thing I said from day one... I would love to get Jason Schmidt on this team if the price is right... BUT NO WAY IN HELL IS HE WORTH MORE THEN A MID LEVEL PROSPECT, MAYBE A HIGH PROSPECT!, but you sure don't weaken your starting staff to get him... He is insurance for El Duque, so we trade Jose for him and that leaves us what if El Duque gets hurt... I mean think about it... I would even be ok with a BMAC for Schmidt deal, but no way on earth would I weaken our major league team to get him... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Mr. Jeckle2000. What you've just said....is one of the most insanely idiotic things I've ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response was there anything that could even be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul. How can you possibly make that kind of statement? It has never been speculated that he was on steroids by anyone. I have never heard his name brought up in any conversation about steroids. Why would you accuse someone without any type of proof whatsoever? Shouldn't you at least have some type of evidence before you start making such ugly accusations as those? Just being on the same team or on the same coast as Balco and Bonds, McGwire, Canseco, Giambi, Santiago... doesn't mean he did anything. I don't think there is any doubt that Sosa did them, but does that mean that we should accuse every Dominican player because they come from the same country? Your points are childish and ridiculous.
  21. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 04:20 PM) What is the deal with the ginormous font? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> HA HA!!!!!
  22. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 01:57 PM) I heard the Giants want Jon Garland, McCarthy and Marte for Schmidt. LOL you have to be kidding me. The Giants want the world for Schmidt- I just don't see a deal happening here. Its most likely that the Giants won't trade anyone and just wait for Barry Bonds' return for next season. We can put this rumor away now. It just won't happen. It sucks, but it is what it is. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This rumor started a long time ago that the Giants asked for Garland as part of the trade. They can ask for anything they want, that doesn't mean they will get it. Negotiations usually start at the high ends and work toward a middle ground. Don't you think?
  23. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 01:33 PM) Jason Stark was on Mike and Mike this morning saying that the Giants are looking to add pitching around Schmidt, and are NOT looking to trade him. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I heard the same exact thing. He also said that they may consider something if the Sox came up to them and offered Contreras and 2 high prospects. Don't take just part of the conversation so it will fit into your plans or argument.
  24. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 01:12 PM) If we don't make the trade, we still have a chance at something here. Giving up 3 pitchers (although one is designated and one is somewhat estranged), just doesn't seem like a good business decision (think the Ritchie trade). <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think everyone would agree that our odds improve greatly with the addition of Schmidt and Vizquel. The chances of us actually going someplace in the playoffs greatly improve. We have a chance to do something here even without a trade is true, however adding more talent to what we already have will never hurt. The Ritchie trade? And what exactly happened with that? Granted Ritche sucked ass for us and we did give up too much, but what exactly happened to the pitchers we gave up? Sean Lowe? :puke , Josh Fogg :puke , Kip Wells is average at best. Not exactly the worst trade in the world either. I would definitely give up a package like that for Schmidt and I would definitely trade Contreras, Shingo, and McCarthy for Schmidt and Vizquel. No brainer right there.
  25. QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:41 PM) I live in the Philly market here in NJ, and the news coming out of here is that Wagner is NOT on the market because the Phillies think they have a chance to make the playoff. The reason for this, GM Ed Wade's job is on the line since they haven't made the playoffs with him as GM. I would love to get Wagner since Hermy's back is a little shakey. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That is the same thing I and I believe everyone else has been hearing. Supposedly things can change in the next 10 days though.
