QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 09:37 PM) I'm hearing that Mueller for Romero is dead. Minny doesn't want to give up anyone from the current roster, at least not a contributing member anyway. There is a big deal in the works between Boston and Philly. The White Sox have definately inquired about Wagner, but have shyed away due to the steep asknig price. (Read: Boston will get him) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You know this how?

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 09:21 PM) Not necessarily, Graff's going to be there everday 2nd baseman for now because Bellhorn's injured. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> BINGO!

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 05:46 PM) Plus, you know what the guy has done in the playoffs. You know how he owns the Yankees and you know he'd love a shot at his old mates. And those two teams are very likely heading to the playoffs this year. If JR means what he says then don't bother looking at the contracts, just look at what the players can mean to this club. The Dodgers will be sellers. Their owner is strapped for cash and by the beginning of next week we'll see them make a call and start dumping. I just hope KW is there first. I'd trade McCarthy in a heartbeat and toss in another good prospect. Hell, I'd throw in Anderson too. The future is NOW. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> :puke :puke

QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 05:24 PM) I think out of Weaver, Perez and Lowe, I would be more inclined to take Lowe. He is more of a groundball pitcher IIRC and has been a victim of poor defense and lack of run support. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> :puke

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 06:08 AM) Weaver and the Sox don't have the best relationship I doubt he comes here. Interestingly enough Gammons mentioned if someone would take Odalis's contract he'd be available, if Odalis is healthy his contract is very fair, Kenny should look into that. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I would love Odalis Perez and Gammons said that if a team is willing to take on his contract then the Dodgers would be willing to trade him. Add another lefty to the rotation. That would be nice. If he is healthy.

QUOTE(forrestg @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 01:21 PM) casey Blake can have his opinion. I would hope if the sox got swept by division rival that they woudn't say that team was unbeatable. Actually last year I mentioned to my son that I liked Cleveland and the way they play. THey have a lot of young players that seem to just want to get a base hit and win games. I told him we need to have a team that had less power hitters and more situational hitters. I think Cleveland will beat out Minnesota this year and will be in it next year if their pitching improves. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> They are not that young. Look em up.

QUOTE(Winnin Ugly @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 05:33 AM) Dont know if this was mention or not but Gammons said on sportscenter that the Sox are intersted in Jeff Weaver <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He also said Jason Schmidt. He sounded like he thought SF would stop asking for so much when the deadline gets closer. Right now they are asking for way too much for Schmidt. Personally I would much rather have Schmidt than Burnett.

The First White Sox wedding about to happen

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 08:10 PM) I am sure if they have 10k to waste on this, they aren't really worried about a downpayment for a house. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ok that may be, there are still many other things I can think of that I would rather spend 10 grand on. -

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 08:07 PM) Shoot, our wedding (ceremony and reception for appx 200) will total out to about 12000 or so (if that much). 10K for what ammounts to an officiant and location is expensive. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This is why my wife and I eloped. We came back had a reception dinner and received gifts at the dinner. Instead of paying all that money into the wedding we decided to buy a house together and all the money that would have been spent on the wedding went towards the down payment. -

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 07:43 PM) They were on Channel 5 last night.. kinda weird couple, IMO. $10K JUST to have JR marry you... because that does NOT include a reception of any kind... is really, reallly not so bright. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Wouldn't you rather put that towards a down payment on a house? I mean it may be just me but there are other things I can use 10 grand for especially as a newlywed. -
QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 06:16 PM) On ESPN News today Jason Stark said FLorida will be more than willing to trade AJ Burnett to the White Sox for Contreras and Marte. Otherwise, he may go to the Mets!! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I say do it and then go hard after Billy Wagner. If we are not giving up any prospects for Burnett, then we will have enough to get Wagner. Burnett and Wagner >>>>> Count and Marte

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 05:35 PM) I think you are all becoming victims of teams vying for the White Sox talent. You need to take a step back & look at your team. Marte comes off the DL & looks superb. D Marte relieved C Politte. BOT 8th LHB G Sizemore struck out swinging. SHB C Crisp struck out looking. LHB T Hafner struck out swinging. TOP 9th Convince me again why we are trading Contreras for Burnett? Batting #1 .269/.731 - not bad Batting #2 .176/.616 - wow! Batting #3 .271/.783 - not bad Batting #4 .233/.842 - should we compare #4 in NL vs #4 in AL this year? Not a pretty picture for the NL. Batting #5 .178/.628 - wow! Batting #6 .154/.622 - wow! Batting #7 .136/.493 - unbelievable! Batting #8 .359/1.174 - aberration Batting #9 .225/.506 - unbelievable! You can look back to see how that compares with AJB. Contreras is pitching like everyone thought he would when the Yanks signed him. You would be a fool to trade him right now. The Yanks threw in cash to drop his cost to below $7M next year. That's a good deal. If Marte's improved strength is for real this team doesn't need much in terms of pitching & defense. You can argue a solid closer only because Hermy has never had to close day in & day out like this. The main weakness in this team is hitting vs RHP: .248/.707 Contrast that with our hitting vs LHP: .296/.830 Gload is sure to help once KW can convince OZ to bring him up. Gload 04-05 vs LHers: .383/.994 vs RHers: .298/.803 Cincy has the cure to what ails us: vs RHers S Casey 1B VS. L: .346/.840 VS. R: .291/.711 H: .309/.722 A: .317/.802 : Split time w Paulie in 2005 & if Ozzie likes him buh bye Paulie. A Dunn LF/1B VS. L: .184/.765 VS. R: .267/1.018, H: .250/1.019 A: .226/.841 : Split time w Pods in 2005 & if Ozzie likes him buh bye Paulie. K Griffey CF VS. L: .287/.891 VS. R: .287/.867 H: .311/.921 A: .261/.825 : There is no rule that says you have to play him in CF. He could play any OF position or DH for that matter. Griffey's versatility at the plate means Ozzie has a future HOFer bat he can play in no less than 4 positions everyday. The contract is a dream for JR & company. A marquee player sure to draw at the gate for $6M/yr thru 2009. Then about $58M deferred after that. He can still keep his home in Cinn. On a private carrier it's less than an hr's flight time from MDW to Cinn. He can copter from the Cell to MDW in less than 30 minutes. Copter home from Cinn airport in about the same time. 3 hours commute tops. Joe Randa 3B VS. L: .290/.847 VS. R: .305/.882 H: .298/.892 A: .303/.851 Perfect pick up to split time with Crede. Omar Vizquel SS VS. L: .255/.684 VS. R: .324/.795 H: .277/.699 A: .333/.832 Perfect pick up to split time with Uribe. That's where KW should be spending his time dealing. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I agree, but that is only if Contreras continues to pitch like this. I would love to see both Dunn and Randa on this team. I would include Konerko in that trade for both of them and pay his contract for the rest of the year, as well as prosepects if we could get both. Dunn could then play 1B and Randa is very good at 3B. Plus it helps our hitting against lefties. I would love it. If we get Vizquel I would be shocked. I keep reading that they will not part with him. All 3 would be great though.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 04:50 PM) Keep your eyes on Omar Vizquel, gang. Seriously. Now that the Sox are a virtual lock for the playoffs, Kenny may be able to convice JR and company to take on the bad contract in Vizquel. If Kenny was in love with him before the season, I find it hard to beleive he isn't at least sending out his feelers for him now. Omar could come in here and give this team a veteran kick in the pants. It would be awesome. I was calling for him before the season, and I'd love to see him in here now. In fact, you may actually be able to get him for a relative steal if the Giants seem themselves as sellers and want to rid themsevles of the awful contract--something I think Saban had in mind when signing him to that nasty thing. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Everything you read has Omar staying in SF because they intend to compete enxt year and they will need him.

QUOTE(Y2HH @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 12:49 PM) Crede can be replaced. As good as his defense is, we have capable stopgaps. The solution is this simple. Uribe to 3B, Ozuna at SS. Done and done. Ozuna cannot be any worse offensively than Crede, and Ozuna has speed. I'm nearly tired of Crede. As a matter of fact, call me negative, but Crede Schmede. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If this was the solution then why didn't Ozzie do this when we played Oakland. Ozuna lost a couple of games against Oakland all by himself with his poor defense. We need Crede at 3B unless we can get Mike Lowell, Edgardo Alfonso, or Joe Randa.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 03:13 AM) This team is just not built on big names AT ALL, and adding Lowell and Burrnet just frankly scare me in not only the whole "chemistry" stuff, but just the makeup, and the look and feel of the team, sort of down the chemistry path. In my eyes, Lilly just fits more than anyone right now. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I would rather count on the Count or El Duque instead of Lilly
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 09:34 PM) One thing about Lowell is that up until this season, his average offensive season is extremely similar to Eric Chavez's. But the dropoff in the second half last year and even farther down so far this year have to raise some flags. Moneywise, if the Sox aren't throwing in any cash, the payroll would only go up slightly if at all. Plus they would have all their prospects for other players. I don't know if I would do this trade to be honest with you. The biggest problem I have with it is the Sox are trading 2 pitchers and getting 1 back. If KW had another trade lined up to replace Marte, then I think I would like this deal. For the record, I am a big fan of Jose Contreras. I think the White Sox should either send him to a shrink or have him hypnotized. I really believe if he believed in himself his $8 million salary would be one of the biggest bargains in baseball. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Possibly trading prospects for Guardado and Wagner? It shouldnt take all that much to get Guardado. Wagner would take more, but we wouldn't be giving up any prospects in the Brunett trade so we would have them to trade here. Guardado, Wagner, Brunett, Lowell > Contreras, Marte, Crede? Then send Jenks down? Guardado, Wagner, Politte, Hermanson, Shingo, and Vizcaino all have closer experience and would make for a really nice bullpen. Not to mention Cotts who is pretty damn good himself. Plus you will have an awesome rotation of Buehrle, Garcia, Burnett, Garland, and El Duque. That is down right scary. I would still like to add a lefthanded bat (Aubrey Huff would be nice, maybe package Lowell to TB and a prospect to get him?), but I guess we can't have everything. Too much dreaming, I know.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 09:17 PM) Lowell was very average the second half of last season, and brutal the first half of this. Up until then, he's an All Star. He only made 7 errors last year, but I heard his range isn't the greatest. He definitely would be a downgrade defensively from Crede. Offensively, he could be anything from a huge upgrade to actually a downgrade. If that's the deal, and really who knows, its a good thing that Ozzie knows Mike Lowell very well. What is the cause of the drop off? Did he use the same vitamins the Giambi boys and Corky were using? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I would do this deal in a heartbeat. Yeah Lowell may not be as good as Crede defensively, but he is not awful defensively. He is actually very solid. His upside offensively is huge compared to Crede. Crede is what he is. We have seen what he can do. Lowell could breakout at anytime and he is a natural pull hitter. AJ Burnett is much better than Contreras and I am not a big fan of Damaso, so that part of the deal is easy to say yes to to me. I like this trade and all I have to say is : WHERE DO I SIGN?!?!

A-Rod ready to play for Dominican Republic
southsideirish replied to greasywheels121's topic in The Diamond Club
I don't like the way he made his statement. To me it seemed like he was negative against the USA and all for the Dominican, when he would never even truly know what it feels like to live in the Dominican Republic. However, I could care less if he is representing the USA in the World Classic and to claim that they are THE baseball power is ridiculous. As long as we can get Scott Rolen or Hank Blalock to play then I think we will be better off. Has Arod ever won anything as far as team awards go? If anything his teams do better once he leaves...Seattle....Texas.. and worse when he gets there....Texas....Yankees... good riddnace to a selfish player. -
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 03:24 AM) Well that was the knock on him. The guy had and has a ton of potential and that's why that Bradford trade was a steal because he was one of the big reasons we got Freddy. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The Bradford trade was far from a steal. He was a main part of a dominant bullpen for 3 years while the As were going to the playoffs every year. Olivo did absolutely nothing while he was here and helped us win nothing at all. Would you like to go back and look over his stats? Olivo is ONE of the reasons we got Freddy, but not a big reason. I would say Reed was the big reason we got Freddy.

QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 04:52 AM) The architect of this daring rebuilding project should be the AL Executive of the Year if the Sox win the division. But he faces a serious juggling act in trying to fortify the 25-man roster for the stretch drive. Landing a marquee starting pitcher like San Francisco's Jason Schmidt or Florida's A.J. Burnett will cost a fortune. Scouts say the Sox remain hesitant to trade 22-year-old pitcher Brandon McCarthy, who has been inconsistent in two brief stints but remains their best pitching prospect. Acquiring a pitcher like Ted Lilly would cost considerably less, although Lilly doesn't have the track record of Schmidt, whose fastball was clocked at 95 m.p.h. in his Friday start against St. Louis. Some concerns about the depth of the rotation could be alleviated if Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez returns to his April form. Hernandez has been on the disabled list twice, but the Sox will need his big-game experience during a murderous stretch in August and in September, when 13 of their final 17 games are against Cleveland and Minnesota. Williams' track record suggests he will make a move. But he might have to wait until the July 31 trading deadline or hope his current pitching staff remains at the top of the AL with no shortcomings. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There is no way we get Ted Lilly, the guy has a screw loose and could really hurt the team chemistry.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 03:20 AM) What do you mean how so?? We could have got more for Durham then just Adkins. As far as Olivo he did help us get Freddy and it's not like Miguel was horrible when he was here. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think we here in Chicago over rated Ray Durham. Don't get me wrong I loved the guy while he was here, but was he really that good? He was a very streaky hitter that took our offense down with him when he went bad. He was great when he was on, but awful when he was off. He was great at going back on pop ups but besides that his defense was poor at best. What more did you want to get for this guy? He has done absolutely nothing since and was a bust for the As after the trade. Adkins can still turn into something, even if not, it is a wash at the worst. So would you like to tell me how so? Olivo helped us do what exactly? Bradford helped the As bullpen out a ton. MIguel was pretty damn bad when he was here. Besides helping us get Freddy, which I stated in my last post, what exactly did he do? He was horrible and hurt our pitching staff. He was such a liability that we had to keep on resigning the senior citizen Sandy Alomar Jr every single year he was here. IMO your wrong on both accounts.

QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 02:54 AM) http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2107378 Trade are rolling now. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I just heard this on ESPN News. Witasick and Kennedy for Byrnes and Quintanilla??? How does Beane get that done? We couldn't give up something like that to get Kennedy and Witasick? s***, I would have loved to have Witasick on this team and Kennedy would be a damn good long reliever. That would definitely bolster our bullpen. Great job by Beane, I can't stand that pompus f***head.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 11:56 PM) Beware of NL strike out pitchers: Brown, Johnson, Vazquez, Pavano .. the list goes on & on. The AL is 13-4-1 vs the NL all-stars over the last 18 yrs! NL hitters suck. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Vazquez (only had one great year with Ks) and Pavano (139Ks in 222.3 IP?) were NL K pitchers? I never knew. Randy Johnson? Is that the Johnson you are referring to? He was damn good with the Mariners if I recall correctly. Kevin Brown was pretty good as well with Texas and Baltimore if I recall correctly. I think those 2 guys just got old. I need a bigger list to know where you are coming from here as this list is not a very good one.
