  1. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 05:53 PM) here is one reason i like this deal. brandon mccarthy is a strong pitching prospect. but lets face the facts here. this guy is one of the more overrated prospects. most people say you cant tell how a pitcher will really pitch until he hits AA ball. and what has he done at or above AA. 3-1 3.46 29Ks in 26 innings in AA in 2004, are good solid numbers. stud prospect numbers? not quite. career in AAA: 3-7 5.17 ERa in 78.1IP with 94 Ks. certainly impressive K rates, but still the ERA and 14 homers is alot granted the bandbox in charlotte. even his #s at low A ball werent dominating, 8-5 3.64 94 IP 113 Ks. again, the k rate is the only outstanding number. the only place he truly dominated was at high A, and had a good showing in like 20 innings of spring training when hitters are trying to get in a groove. IMO the white sox know that his status as an elite prospect is probably overrated. dont get me wrong, i wouldnt mind holding on to him, i just think his market value is higher than his real value right now, and thus i dont mind selling high <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I completely agree.
  2. QUOTE(bulokis @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 05:50 PM) I dont want to part ways with Bmac or Marte for Burnett. If FL takes on Contreras instead I would do it. Also, Bmac for a rent a player because AJ wont sign with us is not a good idea. We need Bmac this year and for more years to come. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Screw that Bmac is not the same pitcer as Contreras and nothing that I have seen tells me that he ever will be. We definitely have no use for Bmac this year and who knows what the hell he will ever become.
  3. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 05:46 PM) AJ Burnett has been on the DL every season since 2000, per Bruce Levine. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So has Beckett, you wouldn't want Josh Beckett? I sure would and the Marlins would not have won a world series without him. That means nothing to me. By the way he has not been on it this year.
  4. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 04:48 PM) wagner BY far absolutely no question <{POST_SNAPBACK}> really why is that? I am very confident with more more lefty arm + Contreras, Hermanson, Politte, Cotts, and Jenks. I don't see adding Wagner to that bullpen that big of an upgrade. I think we either need to upgrade our SP to a point where it is out of this world, which is what we would be doing, or get a left handed power bat such as Griffey. I think the offense needs help more than our pitching, but where will that come from? I just have heard no talk of it.
  5. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) His ERA the las 2 months is over 4.50. That's in the NL. Run support hasn't been the issue. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Now show me how many good outing he has had compared to bad. Were there a coupld bad outings so awful that it blew up his ERA to that point or has he been consistently bad? That would mean more to me.
  6. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 04:46 PM) Kris Benson was the flavor of the month last season. He was awful. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He was? I don't remember that at all. I don't remember anyone comparing him to the type of pitcher Burnett is. Most were saying trading for him would be a mistake. I never remember him being the "flavor of the month"
  7. QUOTE(ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 04:40 PM) I'm probably alone on this but i'd rather take on Alex Gonzalez than Mike Lowell. Crede seems to be playing better recently (and costs about 7million less) but Uribe has been just flat out awful lately. All in all, I dont know what to think about this trade. If we could wrap AJ up for a few seasons I like it, but if its just as a rental it isnt worth it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think everyone would, now tell the Marlins that. Part of the deal is to let them dump Lowell on us. They don't want him and he costs a ton.
  8. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 04:36 PM) Hmm, Mercker: 2 W, 1 L, 40.1 IP, 5.6 K/9, 3.15 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, .282 BAA Nice numbers, for a cheap price, I'd grab him.... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> :puke He is still a huge asshole. Just say no.
  9. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 04:36 PM) But you are acquiring a .500 pitcher who even this season has been just as inconsitent as the pitcher he would replace in the rotation. On top of that, it appears it would be a 2 month rental. I don't mind them overpaying, I don't mind them trading BMac, I do mind trying to pass off a guy who has been mediocre his entire career as the guy who is going to take the White Sox to the promised land. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And Marte and McCarthy have been what? Marte has been very inconsistent and possibly injured and McCarthy has not shown a damn thing in the majors or minors this year. Yes I take that chance on a power arm who has received very little run support. Especially to make him my 3rd or 4th starter, I say HELL YES!
  10. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 04:33 PM) ^^^^ I think this is a very good trade. The way Cotts has been pitching this season makes Marte tradeable. The plus is that we don't give up a SP from this years team and makes the pitching that much deeper! MB Freddy Jon AJ Count That is one helluva rotation with El Duque as a long reliever! Wow. If this trade goes through, I will be one VERY happy man. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> They have said the COUNT will be the long reliever
  11. QUOTE(Whitesox4ever @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 04:31 PM) Steve Stone mentioned if the sox trade Marte they might make a trade for Kent Mercker <{POST_SNAPBACK}> :puke asshole supreme
  12. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 04:28 PM) So you give up if healthy, a top of the line left handed relief pitcher, and your top pitcher in the minor leagues in return you get a .500 pitcher for 2 months. I guarantee you if you offered BMac straight up for Aubrey Huff, TB jumps at it. I bet if you offered BMac for Griffey, Cincinatti jumps at it. Read Dave Van Dykes article in the Tribune. M <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Have you seen what TB has asked for in return for Huff? I guarrantee you they do not do that deal. Cinci maybe, and I would love it, but who knows. Your taking as much a risk on Jr as you are on Burnett in that instance. And yes I give up the so called "top of the line left handed relief pitcher" and if you think he is the top pitcher in our minors fine, but I like some others we have better. No doubt I do that deal. Our time is now, not next year or 5 years from now, but NOW!!!!!!!
  13. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 04:25 PM) Marte hasnt been consistant in a few years. He is either lights out itting 94 on the gun and getting ahead or he is wild like crazy getting behind and then he pops a hanging slider or 91 mph fastball in. My feeling is his is gone based on the hiding the injury deal earlier in the year. He did that 2 times. HE GONE <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Key word(s) : HAS BEEN This year he has not. This year we are going for it. Lets look at this year and the immediate future, not what he has done in the past and what he will be next year cause that doesn't mean s*** right now.
  14. Something here also doesn't make sense. You are giving up only one player on the MLB roster, but getting 2 back in return? There must be another move related to this deal. Whether that be shipping Lowell somewhere else or Konerko. Or Willie or Pablo or Gload gets sent down. Someone still has to go. Plus we are still down a lefty reliever so I would think that is one more MLB add we would have to make while not losing a major piece to our current roster.
  15. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 04:07 PM) Reports indicate Burnett doesn't want to be here. I don't believe he's a significant upgrade over Contreras, also his acquisition would mean El Duque who was signed in part for his playoff prowess, would become a long man in the pen for the playoffs. I wouldn't mind adding Burnett, but BMac could easily bring you a part you more desperately need, that being a middle of the order guy who can get hits with runners on base, and Marte has been inconsistent but hurt. When he's healthy he is cheap and one of the best left hand relief pitchers in the league. Just say no, KW. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Wrong on both accounts. There is not one report that states Burnett doesn't want to be here and Contreras would be the man going to the pen. As far as the playoffs, El Duque was in the rotation anyway? I didn't think he was. BMac can bring you a middle of the order guy? Who is available and who can he bring us? If Marte is hurt and inconsistent right now then how will he become healthy and consistent later this season? I mean we are going for the World Series THIS year right?
  16. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 09:51 PM) Peavy and Oliver Perez come to mind right away. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Xavier Nady? He is looking good. Derek Lee? Matt Clement? Both Padre prospects.
  17. They received 2 of the Padres top 10 prospects. That is not by any means cheap for someone who is basically having a career year in power numbers.
  18. QUOTE(rudylaw @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 02:10 PM) He would be an offensive upgrade over Rownad. And with some of the stupid things Rowand has done in the outfield lateley he would be a defensive up grade as well. The only thing is if he is a $10,000,000 upgrade. I don't think so. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I could have swore I heard Reinsdorf say that money was not an option. This is his best chance since he has been here to win a world series and he desperately wants to win one. He said he would trade all 6 Bulls championships for one world series championship. Money is clearly not a problem in his pursuit of winning a world series ring.
  19. QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 07:15 PM) I'm not smiling. What the hell do we want an overpaid slugging outfielder for? Another homerun hitter is the very last thing on this team's list of priorities <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He is not exactly an overpaid slugging outfielder. He has a lot of money deferred and his contract is not that bad for a player of his caliber. His contract is well worth it. He is not homerun or nothing. He is a lefthanded power bat that this team has been missing for years!!!!!!! He is not the last thing on the list of priorities. He balances our lineup. I would believe you would have to move Konerko in this deal. That way you free up Dye to play 1b/DH and Griff Jr. can play RF/CF/DH. The deal makes a lot of sense for a team that has everything but offense. He would help out a great deal.
  20. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 07:37 PM) SSI i gotta side with you here, anthrax has made some bad posts in teh last few days and has been a dick about it however, i agree with anthrax that griffey doesnt fit anywhere, (though id love to havehim, i just think dye is too big a liability at 1b, but maybe not) but if the chisox somehow made it work it would def. be worth it <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Granted I hae only seen Dye play 1 game at first, but he looked pretty good over there. He is a natural athlete and if Paulie can play first how hard could it be. I know he won't be a gold glover, but do we need him to be? Griffey will fit if we want him bad enough. Pods in left AROW/Griff in center Dye/AROW in right Crede third Vizquel SS Iguchi, 2B Gload/Dye 1B Pyrzinski C Dye/Griff/Everett DH it all fits
  21. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 07:55 PM) Sorry that I have proven you wrong more times than you can recall.. Again 1-2 bad calls I have made..No one is perfect in this business.. I make judgement calls.. , everyone here does this.. I love the post in Pale Hose about Willie getting the starts over Guchi..That my fellow sox fan is fa-king funny..most people fail to realize the truth..Its sad actaully that your White Sox biased is blinded the truth..prove to me I make assumptions on things? This should be a good laugh.. acutally your right.. When I assumed that Russ Ortiz woudl have a better year than the board favorite Jarret Wright. But most here don't see this, they see what they want and state that I wanted Russ Ortiz on this team... I watch grifffey play.. when he is not on the DL, this is the first time in how long he has played this long into a season? And at 10.35mil .. NO THANKS, we already have a guy who is making way to much and is riding the DL in Frank, we don't need to have him have a sidekick. (For the record I love Frank and want him t retire a Sox, but not at the cost he is making) Huff on the otherhand again, for the slooooooow readers, gives us a back-up at 1st,3rd and LF and RF..and is making a tad less. You do know that we have a limit payroll right? I am also a griffey fan, but not at that price.. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Proven me wrong? You have the wrong person if you think that. You make jusdgement calls with nothing to back it up with. Some evidence with some substance to back up your point, if you ever actually have a point. Most of the time it is just useless comments. That is my point. Yes others here make judgements and assumptions, but they actually have something to back it up with. Some type of substance or evidence to their posts. You have nothing. You state something as if it were fact and that is that. Nothing else. No evidnce, no facts, no substance. That is what makes you a complete asshole. Such as saying Schmidt was on steroids. No proof, no substance, no evidence at all. That is f***ed up. I never made any type of post in Willie starting over Iguchi, so I have no idea what your talking about or what this has to do with anything if you are making a reference to me here. You don't know me well enough or seen enough of my posts to know if I am blinded with my Sox fandom or not and quite frankly I think you have me mistaken for another poster. Huff costs ten times as much as Griffey will in what you have to give up. In case you don't know, Tampa's general manager is the hardest to make a deal with. He asks for the moon. I do know that Reinsdorf has said that money is not an option. It will not stop us from adding, so that comment doesn't matter. Nonsense, utter nonsense.
  22. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 07:10 PM) I know the truth hurts...and most here refuse to listen.. Hense the in your face stuff.. Actaully my Assumptions are almost always right..Its too bad people only bring up the 1-2 bad ones that I have made.. But yeah noone can be right all the time huh? AS for Huff/Griffey.. How is Griffey going to help.. Where are we putting him? DH/OF?1B/SS.. Please explain how you think griffey sub-par play helps this team? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Your an ass dude. A complete and total jerk. What is even worse is that you are stupid to boot. So not only are you a complete jerkass, but you don't have the brains to recognize it. You are wrong a lot. A lot more than you care to recall. You make assumptions yet state them as if they are fact. You make judgements, yet state them as if they were fact. The truth is you make way too many assumptions and judgements on just about everything and have no substance to any of your posts. To make matters worse you have nothing to back up your pointless arguments. You just throw stuff out there and hope it sticks and most of the time it is a complete and utter bulls*** with a bunch of random thoughts thrown in. Griffey is the power left-handed bat we need and have needed for a long time. Sub-par? Do you watch him play? You don't know what you are talking about. Griffey could play either CF/RF or DH. Rowand could play either RF or CF. Dye could play 1B or RF or DH. Where is the problem?
  23. QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 05:50 PM) ESPN Insider's Buster Olney is reporting that the Fish are now approaching the Sox about A.J. Burnett, and would be asking for Brandon McCarthy in return. The trade could be expanded with Damaso Marte going to the Fish and the Fish including another player. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Maybe we can include Uribe for Alex Gonzalez
  24. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 05:13 PM) You heard that Colon declined to sign his contract because of deferred money.... You heard that maggs did the same... You have no insider knowlege of either. You weren't privy to the negotiations. They wanted more money, not less deffered money. They both got it.. I suppose that's my agenda. Truth is overrated I guess. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I guess you heard the same things. I guess they received deferred money in the contracts they signed with the Angels and Tigers? Because if not then the statement you made would be that they signed for more money and it wasn't deferred. Maggs and Colon both complained about the deferred money, so I heard. Did you hear that as well? Truth is not overrated. Sometimes people just include the truth that fit their argument or their agenda while leaving out some other truth.
  25. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 04:24 PM) The question is why would the Sox do this.. other than Hilly.. nothing is an upgrade for us. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How is Hilly an upgrade? Over Konerko maybe, but not Crede as a total package.
