  1. Babybearhater posted this on another thread... "Peter Gammons was on baseball tonite suggesting that the three way deal with AZ and the yanks might be back on soon. Where we would trade KOnerko and Garland for Vazquez and Gordon, and he suggested that we would then sign Delgado, and the yanks would get RJ" I read on this thread that Gammons mentioned the possibility of the trade but no one on this thread mentioned Gordon or Delgado. This would be good news...
  2. You are 100% correct. I was thinking of saying the same thing.
  3. It frees up money if the Yanks (as I understand is part of the deal) will pay a good portion of Vazquez's salary.
  4. I'm assuming you meant to print this all in green.
  5. He couldn't hardly claim to be stealth and in the same breadth disclose any real information.
  6. Sexson sucks. He's the 21st century Dave Kingman but worse.
  7. Winningugly, Thanks for the updates. I'll be following along here at work.
  8. I know it became chic to criticize CLee last year but I still like the guy. This isn't rocket science or brain surgery... it's baseball. It's supposed to be fun.
  9. This does make me nervous. Lee straight up for Hudson is a good deal. Lee plus some second level minor league guy who Beane happens to have a hard-on for might also be OK. My guess though is that Beane will find a way to get Anderson or Sweeney from Kenny too. Lee and Garland for Hudson I'd only be alright with if KW has someone lined up as a 5th starter who is not currently on the roster (a free agent in other words.)
  10. This whole thing is old news. As far as I'm concerned, the Sox were lucky that Maggs wasn't smart enough to sign for the $70 million. Because there's no way he's getting that kind of money now. And, folks, last time I checked we hadn't won diddly with Maggs in the lineup. I liked him but he's replaceable. And, I suppose a real GM would just sit back and let Scott Boras kick his ass in the press. Screw that. Boras is an ass and Maggs has sold himself to the devil by turning to him. I'm frankly proud of KW for calling out Boras. Boras is the definition of what's wrong with sports. Sure I'd like to see JR blow his cash like Steinbrenner or Cuban but he doesn't that's what we are stuck with. And, laying blame for that on KW is not right at all. KW has made mistakes but in my judgment for the last two years he has busted his butt to bring a championship to the South Side. The Everett/Alomar thing two years ago didn't work but at the time all of us were ecstatic. Last year, he went out and got Freddie Garcia and traded Esteban just before he completely collapsed to get Contreras. You can't blame KW for the injuries to Maggs and Frank. The relentless attacks on KW are really getting old. It's been four years since the horrible Todd Ritchie trade. Get over it folks... As I have said time and time again on this site, KWs weakness is that he's too quick to pull the trigger which means often we give up way too much. But, the funny thing is he's criticized time and again on this site for not doing enough. My worry is frankly that he does too much. Rant over...
  11. Posted Thursday night by Peter Gammons (I know that I should question what he says) on ESPN.com... "And the solution White Sox GM Ken Williams figured out -- Javier Vazquez to Chicago, Paul Konerko and Jon Garland to Arizona, Randy Johnson to New York -- has apparently fallen apart, because Williams has yet to hear back."
  12. In other words, I support this trade if it in effect means we've traded Konerko, Garland and Anderson for Vazquez and Renteria.
  13. That only happens if the Yankees pay literally all of Vazquez's salary. And, then the trade works for the Sox because it frees up money necessary to sign... Edgar Renteria!
  14. According to Bruce Levine, Dye turned down more money from the Diamondbacks and a similar deal from the Rangers. It's good to hear that he wanted to be here. Dye himself had some good things to say about the White Sox.
  15. Wouldn't Baltimore prefer to get Hudson themselves? I would assume they have someone equal to Willie Harris in their system.
  16. I don't care what KW and JR are saying publicly... there's no way in hell they will go into next season planning on Grilli being our #5 starter.
  17. Mine has been Renteria for weeks. I'll throw in Shawn Chacon as a not so heavy sleeper.
  18. I believe that Big Hurt will be our first baseman with relief being provided by Russ Gload and Jermaine Dye. I know it's not a great solution fielding wise but the White Sox have finally figured out the Hurt hits about 40 points better when he's playing first base. It also allows us to put the fielding disaster, Carl Everett, in as a lefty DH.
  19. I'd rather give Crede another year and use the money we have left in the budget to sign a middle infielder. We know Crede is solid as a fielder so he's not a complete liability. With Frank back healthy, this lineup will be solid with or without a big year from Crede offensively.
  20. I thought so... but I believe we are now at $69 mill after Dye and Hermanson.
  21. By my calculations you have us spending $81 (you edited down a little but not quite enough) million of our $75 million budget. I'm guessing that they're trading for Vazquez and signing someone to fill the middle infielder spot. I'm hoping for Renteria but it will probably be someone cheaper. I'd be happy with Cabrera too. That would put us a little over budget and the trade would still leave us looking for a 5th starter and a little short at first base since Garland and Konerko are part of the trade. I'm not real worried about first base as I think Gload, Dye and Thomas can handle it. Might be ugly at times fielding wise. And, my guess is that KW tries to pull off another Loiaza and sign some cheap pitcher (maybe Esteban himself) to fill the 5th spot. It's not perfect but it could work. If they could add Edgar Renteria as part of this I would be ecstatic.
  22. Good signing. Especially for the price. We now have two spots to fill... a starting pitcher and a middle infielder.
