  1. QUOTE(JimH @ Mar 28, 2006 -> 06:50 PM) Great concise update G+T, nice job, thank you. I listened to the interview and it seemed like B+B needed to go to a break but Ozzie was in no hurry to finish the interview. Great interview, I thought it was funny when he said the Cubs were absolutely ok with the game ending after 9 innings ... when they were losing. Then when they tied it up, Dusty Baker was all "lots of people are gonna be mad". So Ozzie said "blame it on me then". Dusty and the Cubs contradicting themselves? Imagine that.
  2. So, hows Vazquez looking? Sounds like he's settled down a bit after that giving up the bomb to Hudson.
  3. Actually, it appears that they are using Verducci's predictions as the "official" SI predictions... SI 2006 Preview Between SI predicting us to win the World Series again, and this mornings Mariotti arcticle saying not to worry about the Sox, we are officially screwed!
  4. For those of you who seem to lose sleep over "expert" predictions, this ought to make you feel better. From Tom Verducci at SI... 2006 Predictions Has us beating the Cards in the World Series. Hopefully this doesn't qualify for the "SI curse".
  5. Some of you might remember when he gave some of his wonderful insight on San Francisco fans when he was with the Cubs... Selig calls Tavarez comments 'reprehensible' Classy guy. :headshake
  6. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 27, 2006 -> 05:31 PM) What was wrong with the first photo?
  7. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 27, 2006 -> 05:28 PM) Our offense looks good, our starting pitching looks good, our bullpen is the only issue and I think that will be better than everyone is panicking about. Thome is going to have a huge impact on the whitesox lineup this year. I see little to get into a bunch yet about. Lets see how the season unravels before we start to panic. Why so f***ing optimistic?
  8. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 27, 2006 -> 05:27 PM) I really dread the game threads this year. I thought people would be a little more mellow and cool with the WS win. THis spring has showed that it won't. My mental state is much better when I avoid the regular season game threads all together.
  9. QUOTE(ScottyDo @ Mar 27, 2006 -> 05:15 PM) "hottest guy in all of baseball in aramis ramirez" hyperbolize much? Whats he doing in Aramis Ramirez?
  10. QUOTE(kman @ Mar 27, 2006 -> 05:01 PM) On a sidenote, Wrestlemania is on Sunday the 2nd like our opening night. I hope no1 here has WWE tix kinda sux u have to choose 1 of the 2 cool events. Hmmm....tough choice.
  11. QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Mar 27, 2006 -> 04:52 PM) Anyone else notice that the Sox are using a DH while the Cubs are not? Probably got permission from the Cubs so they could get Thome some at-bats. Usually though, if the NL home team allows it, they'll use a DH as well. Kinda wierd.
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 27, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) The similarities between Jenks and Ricky Vaughn are frightening (especially how they can't find their fastballs from their first to second seasons ). Also, the way Vaughn comes in and K's the first hitter in Major League is similar to what Jenks did against Bagwell. The answer to Bobby's control issues: big dopey glasses. I think Bobby's got a couple pounds on Wild Thing Vaughn as well.
  13. Thome's homer wasn't as far as it was high. Made me think of that scene in Major League. Fan #1 "It's too high." Fan #2 "It's not too high, its too hard." Fan #3 "Who gives a s***, its gone."
  14. QUOTE(The Critic @ Mar 27, 2006 -> 12:05 AM) Williamson left Sunday's game with a lower back strain. Threw to one guy (plunked him) and had to leave. Listed as day-to-day, so given the Cubs' track record that means put him on the 60-day DL. And even before the injury, he was doing very well this spring and has basically pitched himself off of the trading block. If the injury is truly nothing serious (obviously you never know with these guys), I doubt the Cubs have much interest in trading him, especially with their starting rotation in shambles.
  15. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 06:02 PM) Did McCarthy get hit around or what? 2IP, 5H, 1BB, 2ER. That's terrible. Definitely some control issues need to be resolved. He didn't pitch as bad as his stat line looks (nothing was hit particularly hard and there was an error in there) but he certainly didn't look good. You're right though, his command hasn't been there. The problem is, his ability to locate his pitches has been a big reason for his previous success.
  16. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 05:54 PM) lol. So how did he look? It was only one game but he looked good. If there's anything I took from it, its that his mechanics appeared to be much better than the previous time I saw him. The first time I watched him, he appeared to have a hitch in his motion, and it seemed like he was overthrowing. This time around, he appeared much more relaxed, his control was much better and the hitters were having trouble picking up his curveball. Of course, history seems to show that his biggest problem is consistancy. So he could very well look like s*** his next outing. But at the very least, his performance today was encouraging.
  17. QUOTE(ChiSoxCE2005 @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 05:35 PM) Game over yet? Are we in trouble? Game over. Sox winner...9-7. The good: Thome looking good. Thornton pitched well in two innings of work. The bad: McCarthy still looks a tad uncomfortable coming out of the pen. Hopefully he's just working out some of the kinks. The eh: Nomo and Redding suck, but whatever.
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 05:28 PM) His biggest challenge as a reliever is having a feel for his change-up coming out of the bullpen. Agreed. But this spring, from what I've seen, his biggest problem has been his control. I'm not too worried, being that his control has been one of his strong points. But he's a different pitcher if he's having trouble locating his pitches.
  19. He wasn't getting shelled, but he was leaving a lot of pitches up in the zone.
  20. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 05:19 PM) KC is quickly getting back into this game now... 9 - 7... McCarthy wasn't exactly hit hard that inning, but he didn't look very good either.
  21. Wow, Garland got smoked in his minor league game today.
  22. Well, it was obviously one inning, so its nothing to make a big deal about. But he looked a lot different out there. As Hawk and DJ were mentioning, his motion was more fluid, and he was getting his curveball over. Gotta start somewhere.
  23. FWIW, Thornton actually looked good that inning. Seems to have gotten rid of that hitch that he had his last outing. Control is much better so far too. Not sure what this all means, but...
