QUOTE(Heads22 @ Oct 27, 2007 -> 12:39 PM) It's a good thing Iowa travels well. Northwestern is kryptonite for the Hawks, but the Gophers are ungodly bad, and Western Michigan should be a win. If Iowa traveled like, say, Kansas, they could sit at home with a 6-6 record. Then again, the Big 10 probably still has the greatest bowl agreement known to man. And Iowa travels like no other when it comes to bowl games. Still, I'm not about to get ahead of myself. The offense is still putrid, although the oline was just fantastic in the second half. That young line is gonna turn this team into some kind of an offense in the next couple years (and if they can land Carufel over Minny that would be sweet).

f*** me...Iowa lets another pick go right through its hands and now MSU is in position for a field goal and they still have time for a TD to win it.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 02:31 PM) Won't OJ Mayo be competing for that award as well? Speaking of which, how's USC looking besides Mayo? I hate to say it, but I'm kind of ignorant to the Pac 10 and their going-ons. It is hands down the best basketball conference in the country this year. UCLA is loaded and will win the national championship and you have 5 other teams (not named UCLA) that should be in the top 25.

QUOTE(Steff @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 07:56 AM) Thankfully California's pet rescues and shelters learned from Louisiana's mistakes. It's just too bad that many pet owners in this situation are irresponsible assholes. As a whole I think the state/rescue shelters did a great job but its pathetic how many people just ditched there pets/animals. It is one thing if you are in a life and death situation and the only thing you have time to grab is your kid and run out the door, but its another when you have time to get your pictures and other stuff and still leave your pets. I know for me the first thing in the car would be my moms two pets (and of course my mom).

QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 07:03 AM) Do you think he'll be a CF because they are badly lacking in CF prospects in the system, or are you thinking/hearing he's not that good at 2B? From what I heard (which was very little), they like his athleticism and his bat. I know they had him in CF a fair amount this year but I didn't get much of a read on how it turned out. The batting surge in the 2nd half is a good sign though. I think it is definitely one part due to the Sox lack of legitimate CF prospects. However, I also think that in general CF is a more premium position so they feel his athletism is best used at CF. I think his early struggles at the plate were at least in part due to him spending additional time learning the new position. He is supposed to have the tools to be an average to a bit above average defensive CFer. I don't think we are talking about a premium defensive player, but at the same time, if his bat projects the way a lot of people think it will (myself included) we will be talking about a good who has a chance at being an above average cf'er (something that is much more difficult to find than a 2nd baseman). Also, it definitely has little to do with him not being good at 2nd base. I'm not sure if he's great over there but I never have heard much about him being a poor defensive 2nd baseman. If he stuck at 2nd I'd probably compare the guy to Ray Durham. Above average range for a 2nd baseman, but maybe some minor errors that would make him just a solid second baseman (but with a good stick like Ray Ray always had).

QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 08:10 AM) What a great hitter he has been. I believe his contract expires after this year and although he's talked about playing a few more years, I wonder if 2008 will be it for him. And I would agree he knows exactly where he stands in relation to those numbers. And just a guess on my part, the .300 career average is extremely important to him. Not a criticism but he has always been in tune with his numbers. I wish Frank would hang them up at the end of the year because it would be great for him to finish up with such amazing statistics. However, Frank has consistently had money problems over the past couple years and I would be stunned if he didn't stick around solely for the paycheck.

Haunted Houses
Ya, I have a lot of fun going to Haunted Houses. Haven't been to any this year but as a kid it was always awesome. I even ran a couple Charity Haunted Houses when in high school. I'm thinking this year I'm going to go to the Queen Mary's haunted house thing they do in October (should be cool considering the Queen Mary is haunted as is).

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Oct 23, 2007 -> 04:49 PM) Moving a team to Vegas would be a huge mistake. Vegas will never have a MLB team with Selig as a GM. I'm full supportive of that too (cause a MLB team being in Vegas is just a BAD BAD Idea...or any professional sports team).

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 23, 2007 -> 01:28 PM) Shelby finished with a .301/.352/.508 and I'm wondering why I wasn't more aware of this. For a 21 year old in low-A that's pretty good. Unfortunately, it seems his defense has a ways to go. Any idea on what the organization plans for Shelby going forward -- center field, second base? I hope they don't make a rash judgement and stick him in left -- his bat isn't good enough to play there, but if he could get his defense at second or center to be 'passable' or 'mediocre', he'll be an asset in the organization. He, DLS and Carter will certainly be guys to keep an eye on at Winston Salem this season. Shelby will probably be a CFer. On top of that after this season he will probably be one of the 4 best prospects in the system. I currently see him as a B prospect but in a year I think he'll be elevated to a B+/A- prospect (just a great pure hitter, with good athletic abilities).

I think he was down at extended spring and was able to throw a bit but the Sox were being cautious. Last I knew he was expected to be back in the minors next season. I'd imagine if all goes well he will start in A ball and work his way back up to the AA level when he got his groove back. Hopefully he can get better because prior to having surgery that cost him the year he was moving up the on the Sox prospect board.

Yep, it is that time of the week again. It's time for you to turn off your tv, pop open a beer, and tune into the best in late night sports casting on the web. However, if you can't get the best in sports casting on the web...than why not listen to the South Side Report with Mario/Jason & a special guest Tony. This week's show will be one of the first with minimal White Sox discussion. Why you ask? And as always if you have any topics or questions you want answered, post them here or share them with us live in the chat. In addition, if you want to call in we may be accepting calls as early as tonight's show. To call us you'll have to set up a free skype.com account and just let us know your interested in calling in and we will set some time aside for your's and anyone else's call. http://ustream.tv/channel/the-southside-report
