The Cubs get a taste of Zambrao's upcoming salary demands
Chisoxfn replied to Kyyle23's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 17, 2007 -> 04:36 PM) Carlos Zambrano sucks against the AL too. He can't hide behind the weak hitting catcher and pitcher. For a supposed ace and Cy Young contender, his K/BB was 24th out 38 NL starters, and his WHIP was 16th. It's a shame Oswalt will be getting much less than this fatass headcase. Oswalt is clearly the better pitcher, yet doesn't get half the hype I'll take Zambrano as would any other scout in baseball. Of that list you made...Johan is the only starter I'd take over Zambrano. Clemens is pretty ridiculous but he doesn't give the innings that Carlos does. Pedro isn't healthy anymore and the rest of those guys aren't even close to being as good as Carlos, imo. -
Best(non-World Series) and worst all time White Sox moment.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jan 17, 2007 -> 05:36 PM) We were there and you called the comeback, easily my best moment as well. Awesome seats for that game to boot. I still remember getting called by my dad in the game and telling him don't worry, Yhancy Brazoban will blow the save. Hell, me you and mario were going crazy at the end of that game (only time I went more wild was when the Sox clinched). -
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 17, 2007 -> 11:12 PM) How is that game? Worth picking up? I'm in love with Fifa and College Hoops right now... I can play Fifa all day. The game is amazingly awesome.

I am the lightest sleeper in the world though. If the heater turns on and starts blowing, I will wake up (unless I'm sick or sleeping for the first time in a day or two cause in those cases I will actually be in a deep sleep as my body makes up for its lack of legitimate sleep). Basically the slightest of noise and I'm up (no one could Tee Pee my house as a kid because my window was always open and I'd hear things instantly and pull pranks back at them.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 17, 2007 -> 02:44 PM) Will be interesting to see if Dunleavy can live up to that so called "potential" of his that made him a top 3 pick. Suprised he didn't get traded to the Clippers straight up for Maggette though. Since Indiana gets another cancer off their team in Jackson, it's probably slightly in their favor. Find it weird they traded Harrington after they really wanted him back though. Elgin Baylor was on the radio today and said that as long as Dunleavy is the coach, he will never ever have his son on the team. -

QUOTE(Jeff Liefer @ Jan 17, 2007 -> 09:08 AM) I'm pretty sure I took my first piss in a White Sox bathroom between innings as a toddler...I barely remember Old Comiskey, but the first memories I have are Sox memories...born and raised. At least you didn't get locked in the pisser, like Liefer did when he was with the Brewers org That said I always liked watching Liefer take BP, he was "country strong" as Hawk would say.

QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jan 16, 2007 -> 09:34 PM) Bulin wall was God awful tonight.... 3 of those goals he had decent looks at and just missed them. Given on one of those Buf stopped his feet and got deeked out of his jock but Bulin should have made that save IMO. Another 2 goal lead gone for naught. Yep, Bulin lost that game for the Hawks. That said on a couple I thought the defense could have done a better job, but still, Hawks played agressive and were bringing the wood all game. It was cool that I actually got to see a Hawks game and in HD to boot.

Ridiculous game. -
I got like 7:30 hr's. Absolutely passed out at 11. It's great, ever since I started running a couple miles when I get home from work (before I cook my dinner) I've really started to sleep even better (and I sleep good as it is). On a sidenote, I'm 100% convinced that aside from noise, the reason some people can sleep well and some can't sleep well has to do completely with stress levels. Me, I forgot absolutely everything when I'm going to go to sleep.

I have defeated computer solitaire 3 straight times (yes, its a very slow day at work).

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 16, 2007 -> 02:29 PM) I dont like the concept as much as that service that allows you to use your existing cable connection at home to watch the channels on your PC. Ya, thats going to be really sweet. Especially since I'm out of town on business a lot. In this case I could access my cable box through my laptop and than watch MLB Xtra innings and the Sox game via that.

I thought this was pretty darn interesting. The concept is very cool and while they aren'the first (as we can watch TV online via most networks now) the idea of having one place to be able to search for tv show clips is outstanding (especially if it works well). These guys are pretty damn inovative considering they succeeded with Kazaa (albeit in the footsteps of Napster) & Skype already.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jan 16, 2007 -> 01:02 PM) That Dreifort signing still baffles me. Or when the Rockies gave him and Mike Hampton that huge contract? Like, during that press conference did the Rockies and Dodgers respectively think they were making smart financial moves? The Dodgers opted for Dreifort over Park. At the time both of those guys were high toolsy guys with franchise type arms. Dreifort always showed that arm and stuff, but got hurt and Park lost all his velocity due to back problems and other issues. Both signings turned into complete disasters, but at the time, while there was risk involved, Dreifort had all the stuff to be an absolute stud and had shown flashes of top notch success, IIRC. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 16, 2007 -> 01:07 PM) 1999 Rupert Murdoch gives Kevin Brown a 7 year $105M contract which for that market was even more insane than it would be today. He gave the Dodgers 3 very good healthy years and added another 2 severely injury plagued ones before being dealt to the Yankees in 2003 for Jeff Weaver and Yhency Brazoban where he finished his career off pretty pathetically. At the time both him and Johnson were on the market and it turned out Johnson's deal was the superior one. Mo Vaughn signed a mega money deal with the Angels (Angels could have went after the Unit but opted for Vauhgn in the end). Kevin Brown was coming off a world series run with the Padres and was one of the premiere pitchers in baseball (a total stud w/Pads) but too bad he ended up getting hurt. His sinker was downright disgusting.

QUOTE(bmags @ Jan 13, 2007 -> 12:40 PM) glad we had parallel thinking. I swear when julio ramirez went yard i almost ate my hat. But were you at the game, dressed in Sox gear with a half dozen of your best buddies (all of whom happen to be Angel fans). At one point (once we were down about 10 runs) I started rooting for the Angels just cause I thought it would be hillarious to see how badly we'd lose by (hey a loss is a loss, so in the end if we are gonna get whooped, why not get owned). QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 13, 2007 -> 03:08 PM) Ya, right around there. Thats why I asked. I don't remember it at all, as I was just getting into Little League. Seems like most people were talking about events they actually recall. I remember the strike so vividly. I remember the Sox losing in the playoffs a year earlier (with Black Jack getting lit up by the Blue Jays). That is also probably my first real memory of the White Sox and cheering for them in front of the TV. Even though I know I was a fan of them for a year or two before that (according to my dad and my recollection, but I don't ever remember any games before that). Than after that year we were off to the races and the strike comes. I vividly remember getting the sports page (my dad would give me the sports page every morning since I was about 6) and on the front page was a little tracker showing how many days the strike had gone for and the estimate of the days that could pass before the season would be over. Each and every day the first thing I'd look at in the morning was that section of the paper to see if the strike had ended. I remember being real dissapointed without baseball (I lived & died with baseball...watching it & playing it daily). Finally the season was cancelled and I remember being very dissapointed. I also remember my dad coming home one night (later on in the year) telling me that we'd be going to the opening day angel game (its a tradition in our family) real soon as the strike had ended and baseball would start. I remember hearing people saying how they wouldn't follow baseball and as a kid I don't think I knew better, but I did know that all my favorite players and my favorite team was going to play and as a kid thats all that mattered to me. So I guess the strike was one of my saddest baseball memories, but at the same time the ending was one of my favorite baseball memories. -
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 16, 2007 -> 11:25 AM) A Bad signing? A bad signing is what the Cubs gave Ted Lilly. Darren Dreifort made over 63 million dollars in his baseball career, and went 48-60 with a 4.36 ERA. That was a horrendous signing. Just thought I would clear that up. BTW, thanks for the Gange info. Technically speaking, I'd take a healthy Dreifort over Ted Lilly every day of the week (unfortunately there is no such thing as a healthy Dreifort).

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 16, 2007 -> 10:32 AM) I would have to think a few Boras clients have signed extensions with the old club at least a couple of times, but does anyone actually know? Gagne signed an extension with the Dodgers in the past. The Dodgers have often times negotiated with Boras (Darren Dreifort signed an extension to remain w/Dodgers, albeit it a bad signing).

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jan 16, 2007 -> 09:43 AM) So, again, the Colts have no case, despite already winning in Foxboro? What the heck are you talking about. Most experts I've heard are all picking the Colts. In fact I'd be surprised if anyone picked the Pats (the only valid reason for picking them is based on past success of Brady/Belli in the playoffs and that is it because the Colts are the superior team).

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 11, 2007 -> 10:03 AM) New housing is RIDICULOUSLY expensive everywhere (probably a combination of product cost going up and UNIONS). My wife and I want to move back to her hometown in Iowa (near Iowa City) in a few years. New housing is WAY expensive even for our there. I can get a 60+ year old home in good condition for $110. New homes are a minimum of TWICE that. Or, smaller new homes are as expensive as larger older homes. Let me give you this example... 3 Bedroom, 1 bath, 1304 sq ft, built 1900: Cost: $124,900 (or, $95.78 per sq ft 2 Bed, 1 Bath, 884 Sq. Ft., built 2005. Cost: $112,900 (or, $127.71 per sq ft.) These two buildings are LITERALLY one block apart. Why would I buy the new one when I can get the old one with more square feet, a deck, AND a nice back yard? New electrical work, good plumbing/pipes, efficient windows (keeps energy costs down), non creaky floors. There are a lot of major perks to having a new house as opposed to one built in 1900.

QUOTE(vandy125 @ Jan 16, 2007 -> 09:50 AM) Are we sure that he is dead? I could never actually decide whether or not he had died. It looked like a shot to the shoulder. I thought when his head finally bowed that was it. At first I thought Jack maybe hit him somewhere where he knew he wouldn't die, but than I realized he has to be a goner.

You'd be surprised how many people drop that much on jeans/stuff. Out here in Cali I'd say 3 out of ever 4 girls in the OC own at least on pair of Seven (or similar) jeans and you'd be shocked at how many guys do too. I own a couple nicer pairs of jeans that would probably cost close to that, however, I have friends in the right place and paid like 30 bucks for them (which is about the most I'd personally pay for jeans). All that said I have never heard of that store in my life, but I tend to do all my shopping at places where I have friends that work cause I'm a cheapo like that, lol.
