  1. Iowa wallops Georgia State. Yes, the state of Iowa basketball has gotten that bad that I have to brag over a win over Georgia State. Luckily the football team will beat the Horns in there bowl game.
  2. DA BEARS. And considering a baseball message board is voting so heavily towards football, it tells you just how much of a football town this really is. Baseball would be #2 with basketball #3. That said during the Jordan era that may have been a period where basketball was #1 but that was simply because the Bears were that terrible.
  3. A birdie told me there is on burn protection.
  4. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 20, 2006 -> 09:02 AM) ^^^ Unless we are talking about Carl Crawford or Vernon Wells or a legit super star outfielder in which case I'd consider it (as long as the Sox had plans to find another starting pitcher via trade).
  5. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Dec 20, 2006 -> 06:32 AM) from Globesports.com If you can get Rios for Vazquez, you do it in a heartbeat. I wouldn't trade any of our starters straight up for Rios. It would be assinine....starting pitching >>>> outfielder.
  6. There is no way that Thornton has enough secondary pitches to succeed as a starter, imo.
  7. QUOTE(Brian @ Dec 19, 2006 -> 06:09 PM) With Iverson off to Denver, I think Philly should be shopping Webber and rebuild through pics. I know Webber is on the decline but is still a decent post presence and could fit in the Bulls starting 5. PJ Brown and a 2nd round pick for Webber? Philly will take Brown and his expiring contract like they just did for Joe Smith and a 2nd round pick is all Webber is really worth these days. Hinrich Gordon Deng Webber Wallace Webber gets like 23 million the next couple of years. If we just gave them Brown they'd give us a couple first round picks as well to get rid of him.
  8. Wolfe has done very little the 2nd half of the season. I know Iowa shut his ass down and it seems like quite a few other teams have. If this guy was so special he'd find a way, even with teams stacking the boxes.
  9. Netflix is awesome.
  10. QUOTE(DaGame2584 @ Dec 19, 2006 -> 02:54 PM) Do you think the Blue Jays would do a Rios/League/Romero for Garland or Vazquez? Or do I need to step away from the XBox? It depends just how much value they believe Rios has. On an unrelated sidenote I still think we should be trying to move Buehrle, unless we think we can ink them.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 19, 2006 -> 10:27 AM) I was actually told a few days ago that scout.com is a horrific site for baseball, and there so-called "experts" are not to be trusted. With that in mind, this proposed trade of 3 big Toronto chips for Penny is laughable. I can vouge about that. They are a garbage site. And i don't see why people think McGowan and Johnson are so great. Ya Rios has a lot of upside but the other two are serviceable (even though I think Johnson is a pretty solid player) and McGowan isn't nearly as good of a prospect as some people indicate he was/is. I'd consider a package involving Ricky Romero and Rios though.
  12. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 19, 2006 -> 10:34 AM) I keep him in Charlotte for 1 more year, hopefully giving him time to grow up and maybe develop more of a power stroke. If someone were to go down with a serious injury in the OF at midseason, I would consider him my first backup option. I would pencil him into my outfield starting in 2008. The only scenario where I would start Sweeney off in the big leagues next year, barring an injury, would be if JD were traded for a big package which made the whole team better for many years (which I still wouldn't rule out). And in 08 we would be screwed..we'd have on Dye and no Pods adn who knows what happens with Anderson (even if he did pan out he'd still just have one good season) and we'd be throwing in another green rookie. That has the makings of an absolute disaster. But if we give him some 300 Ab's at the major league level this year we'd have at least an idea of how he's going to handle himself and he'll be much more prepared if we deem him ready/worthy of being a starter in 08. I'm not a fan of just handing rookies starting jobs, I prefer finding creative ways to get them ab's and give them a slower maturation process that I think is better for long term success.
  13. I don't even want to know what would have happened post 9/11 if Gore was at the helm. You can be upset about the Iraq fiasco but Bush responded admirably and did as good of a job as I think you could have following 9/11 and the tough economy he was handed. And thats something a lot of people have forgotten.

I remember watching all of those great shows as I grew up. RIP.
  15. I think Bernie would be a tremendous addition. He can still hit pretty well in around 300 AB's (which would give him AB's in LF, DH, and maybe once in a blue moon out in CF or RF). He'd also be a tremendous role model for a guy like Brian Anderson and would be an overall fantastic addition to the club. That said there is no way he'd take our job, but if he were to go elsewhere I'd think we'd be one of the handful of teams he'd consider going to (considering he isn't about to go play for a team with no chance at winning and fact of the matter is the Sox are still one of the more talented teams in all of baseball).
  16. QUOTE(Shamrock4Life @ Dec 18, 2006 -> 07:06 PM) how was this not mentioned. in rogers column in the trib: "Guillen has said he doesn't foresee using Rob Mackowiak in center field anymore. Barring another move, that means the Sox probably will carry two of the four currently in the center-field picture: incumbent Brian Anderson and challengers Ryan Sweeney, Jerry Owens and Luis Terrero." woot. i am a happy man. I don't want Jerry Owens or Terrero to be the answers and I don't think a platoon of Sweeney/Anderson would be that bad, especially if Sweeney ocassionally got some AB's in LF as well. It would be a nice way for two young players to help each other develop.
  17. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Dec 18, 2006 -> 06:55 PM) One good year = $38 million? Damn, I should have learned how to pitch better. It was more than just one good year, but I'm one of Bondy's bigger backers. I think this was a great move by the Tigers and Bondy would have got more than that 12 million on this years market and I still think its a relatively fair dollar value for the guy. He would have been the 2nd best FA on the market (behind Zito and ahead of Schmidt, imo).
  18. Freaking awesome. Now all that the Sox have to do is find someone to replace them. I assume the Sox would still have at least two more seasons at TEP (this year and the next year).
  19. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Dec 18, 2006 -> 11:52 AM) Can Owens even play CF? I know almost nothing about him, except that he still needs time in the minors. You hear a lot of people say he can but the sad truth of the matter is that he's a horrid ass CFer who rarely, if ever played it in the minors and for a reason.
  20. Wish Radke nothing but the best. He was one of the classiest guys in this game and he'll be missed.
  21. I've had Jimmy John's once and was pretty impressed.

Good seeing you stop by Josh. Hopefully things get a bit better for ya.
  23. Yep. Its online we just got to get the forums set up. Check out www.talkbhawks.com/forums and register and tomorrow I'm going to go on and get the forums built and sometime in the next week get it skinned as well (But it can re-open without the skin).
  24. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 08:46 PM) one more day or two on the talkbhawks - I have it almost done... Kap Just in time too...cause the Hawks have been kicking ass. Khaby played great tonight while Ruutu had his 4th goal in 5 games (I think its 4 in 5 games at least).
  25. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 08:18 PM) I was at the game in prime seats, and here's what I saw: #1. Ricky Manning Jr. had a bad game, and is a nickel back (I wouldn't play Vasher again until the playoffs, he HAS to be healthy) but Danieal Manning was FAR worse. He took 2 of the worst angles I've ever seen on the Galloway and Hillard TD's, and both of those plays are ended at about the 25 yard line if he hadn't been so dumb. #2. Rex looked really good against an adequate defense, which is a good sign. #3. Thomas Jones should not start, period. Cedric Benson is so much better it's not even funny, and he blocks just as well. #4. The injuries are hurting the team moreso in terms of depth than pass rush. The pass rush wasn't as good, forcing some blitzes that made the depleted secondary vulnerable, but the depth was killer because the d line was dead tired in the 4th and that was part of the collapse. The injuries SHOULD kill this team on defense (along with Rex still being wildly inconsistent), but since it's the pathetic NFC and the Bears have a bye and homefield, they have a great shot anyways. We'll see, but for that game to be that crazy against Tampa Bay, maybe the worst team in football, is terrifying. Oh, and the "catch" by Davis to set up the game winning FG clearly hit the ground. So we won on an incomplete pass, yay. Huh...that catch didn't hit the ground? But maybe I wasn't looking hard enough. We did potentially make a holding penalty on the play but it looked like a clean catch to me.
