  1. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 08:11 PM) No doubt. I'd love to have Rios, but we can't handle losing another SP. We have no one who is dependable to step in and make 25 starts. Would you do Garland for Rios straight up? I wouldn't. It might be a fair talent-for-talent deal, but I don't think the Sox can afford to give up another SP. It would fill one big hole and open another. Good lord know. I wouldn't even think about it. If they want to give us some young pitching than fine, but not straight up. I think they have a couple decent young arms but I doubt they'd give up both. And I should add if we trade anyone it should be Buehrle (unless he's indicated he's open to signing an extension). I could also accept Vazquez. Even though I'm one of the bigger Javy fans on this board (after being his biggest critic and someone that was against the trade) I think Javy made good adjustments and is going to have some real nice years (hopefully with the Sox). Plus I like the fact we have him for this year and next year (same with Jon) but if we could keep Buehrle than I have no problem moving Javy. The main thing is, I want 3 of our 4 guys (Javy/Jose/Mark/Garland) back here the following year. Now all of those guys (except for Mark, because if he pitched the next year it would mean he signed a fat deal) would be free agents that final year, but the fact is they will still be here and we can move them then (plus we'll have a far better idea of what Bmac/Floyd/Gio/Haeger/Broadway are capable of and may decide we can move another one of those guys for some other needs or more prospects or we could decide we can't afford it and stick with it and try and spend the money to keep another vet or two if we need it). Either way if we move Garland now it takes away our options a year from now and I don't want us to be in a position where we have to have almost all our young pitchers develop and develop fast to compete a year from now (and yes...despite some people's thoughts we are still clearly one of the 4 or 5 best teams in baseball and capable of being a champion). Instead if we move Buehrle and hold onto the other 3 we know if we need to (even if they walk) we can get another year out of 3 above average starters that can give us innings and protect/teach our youngsters.
  2. Romero was absolutely god awful for the Angels last year and Donnelly is nothing more than a serviceable 6th inning guy. Both were once pretty good, but Donnelly isn't a solution, although he does provide good depth and I'd like him as my last guy in the pen (I don't know if thats what he'll be though). As far as Romero is concerned, he does have good stuff but wow was he brutal for the Angels. Scioscia and the entire staff absolutely hated him and started going away from him because he had no idea how to pitch with anyone on. It was a shame since he has the ability to be a pretty damn nasty lefty reliever (and has been in the past as well).
  3. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 02:26 PM) He honestly deserves to be the feature back over Jones, but I can see why they are doing what they're doing. They want to keep Barber fresh for the 2nd half so he can just run over defenders. Pound for pound, I don't know if there's a harder runner than he is, he never gives up on any run. Defensively the lack of a pass rush besides Ware is killing us, but also the lack of a quality coverage FS (hence teams are attacking Roy Williams over the deep middle) and Anthony Henry had a real bad day. Jason Hatcher came into the lineup over Marcus Spears (bust) though, and gave us something on the pass rush. And not a great day for the Bears even though you pulled out the win. Not a great day....for 3 quarters we had them stomped defensively and Grossman looked tremendous. Not to mention we left the game without suffering any serious injuries. I know it was a s***ty blown game, but overall we had two awful tackles that led to big plays and than a few passes where Rattay just made really damn good throws. Plus I think a lot of those points were scored because we pretty much were in the prevent. That said I'm very concerned about our lack of pass rush.
  4. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 07:19 PM) Just for kicks, lets just say we did Trade Garland and Broadway for Rios. What happens to the rotation. I would love getting a younger player like Rios, and while I want to be in the playoffs in 2010, I also want to be in the playoffs now, and having Floyd/Haeger/Sisco in the rotation isn't going to work, not for me at least. No it wouldn't. In addition that would be an absolute robbery by the Blue Jays.

    Apocalypto was very very good.
  6. QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 09:12 AM) How is his defense? Very good, plus he hits LHP and has been an everyday player many a time for that minor league team known as the DRays. This is a fantastic deal and we got him for a lot cheaper than I thought (assuming that the 3 mill plus figure is over the course of 2 years, meaning he gets just over 1.5 million a year which is nice.
  7. It seems to me that it would be a lot wiser to move Sweeney whose always hurt than even thinking about getting rid of Teahen. I think they will finally suck it up and move Sweeney to the Angels for a far less package than they would have got a year or two ago. Basically put I think the Royals should be happy if they can just get another team to take on Sweeney's contract.
  8. ISU goes like 4-5 minutes without a field goal to pretty much give it to Bradley after being completely in it the whole way.
  9. QUOTE(chisox2334 @ Dec 16, 2006 -> 01:49 PM) another move will be made today but it didnt say whether was through trade or free agency but it will be a small to public but a plus internally. You can find this on confrence call on whitesox.com site. Interesting. I wonder if we open up another spot on the 40 or if we are going to announce that we've signed someone to an extension or what. Maybe we are going to be acquiring a righty stick that can play CF (I know we have Terrero but I want options).
  10. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Dec 15, 2006 -> 06:10 AM) I remember reading all the old dudes were coming out for one last hurrah of action movie sequels. Sly Stallone - Rocky and I think another Rambo Bruce Willis - Die Hard Harrison Ford - Indiana Jones yipeekaya motherf***er I'm all over another Indiana or Die Hard.
  11. I knew I had heard that before.
  12. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Dec 16, 2006 -> 10:29 AM) Any possiblity the Sox are maybe thinking of using Sisco as a starter if they move either Javy or Garland? If we are going to use him as a starter (which may not be a bad idea or plan B for a year down the road) he'll be getting his licks in AAA, not at the major league level. Still I love what Kenny has done, he's gotten us a ton of high upside, high potential impact arms that will be under our control for a number of years. We may not develop all of them, we may eventually deal some of them, but regardless we now have a ton (and I mean a ton) of potential high impact arms that could be filtering towards the Cell in the next couple of years (some of which are already in our pen).
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 16, 2006 -> 10:01 AM) Think of it this way....Borchard, Baj, and Gload are now Thornton, Cintron, and Sisco. Like I've been saying, these are the deals KW excels at. No doubt about it. KW is very shrewd when it comes to smaller deals.

I thought the prior weeks episode was meh, but this past week's was one of the best I've seen over the past couple of seasons.
  15. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Dec 15, 2006 -> 01:52 PM) Everything I've seen in regards to Bernstein is that UCLA is rising for him, as he was at UCLA-USC, and that it will come down to them and Iowa. Ya, I was pissed that he was at that game.
  16. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 16, 2006 -> 08:53 AM) Tank, your boy with all his drugs is now dead (by the gun), your lucky your not dead.....take the warning and get out of this life before your not here anymore. Get your s*** together personally, please. It's beyond football now.
  17. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Dec 16, 2006 -> 05:52 AM) Who is generally considered the better prospect, Mike Pelfrey or Phillip Humber? Pure stuff wise, I actually think Humber may be a bit better. However, Pelfrey is the better all around prospect, especially when you consider the health issues Humber has had. When healthy, both are guys that you could project into the front of your rotation in a couple years (if they pan out).
  18. I love Gload, probably one of his biggest fans on the site but this is a fabulous move. Anytime you can trade a guy who is nothing more than a role player on our team for a guy with one of the better young left handed arms arounds, its what I would call a good deal. That said I think the Royals will be pleasantly surprised in what they have in Ross and I'm really glad he's going to get a chance to play a lot. However, anytime you get a guy with Sisco's potential its a good thing. Two years ago (as a rule V pick) he looked flat out nasty and than kind of backtracked last season. It should be noted he was really that god awful last year though.
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 04:30 PM) It better be more than a guy with just "Some upside" to go for Humber instead of Pelfrey, it better be a pretty big upside. Especially with what Jennings just pulled in from the Astros. When I say upside, I mean exactly that...upside and I still don't know if I make that deal without Pelfrey.
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 04:18 PM) I've changed my stance, and I want the Sox to trade Buehrle. We could get Lastings and another pitching prospect from the Mets for Mark. There's not a chance in hell we re-sign him after next year, so lets get a marquee outfield prospect for him who has the chance to be a very versatile offensive player I still can't believe thought that KW traded Garcia away without getting someone who he's sure can help us in 2007. If we move Buehrle and get Humber instead of Pelfrey, get a lower level guy that you think has some upside and Milledge than you got yourself a deal. I don't mind it since Mark will be long gone anyway.
  21. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 03:04 PM) Humber and Milledge. As much as I would like for the Mets to give up Pelfrey, I don't think they're going to do it. So take the next best prospects they have. I like the sound of Guerra as well. If the Sox acquired Milledge, they could either trade Pods for a backup catcher, or trade Brian Anderson to a team like the Marlins for some of their young pitching. EDIT: But I don't want to trade Javy, unless Minaya overpays. I'd rather trade Garland who you'd probably get more in return for than Vazquez I'd imagine. You don't trade for injury prone top prospects. Unless your getting them for a value. We would be getting robbed blindly in that trade. You either get Pelfrey in any package or you don't make a trade at all. He is a must have if you deal with the Mets. Otherwise keep Javy since we have him for 2 more years.
  22. Sorry but as much as I want the Bears to win, If Johnson was in possession of a Leon Lett like quantity of drugs, I want him to rott for it. I already whined and complained about his off-field problems in the past and think the best thing you can do with consistent malcontents thats get into legal problems is cut ties with them. I am waiting to see what actually happened, but I do not feel sorry for him, I feel sorry for the team that relied on him and us fans. He's just a f***ing prick that deserves whatever wrath comes on him for breaking the law (if in fact we find out he had posession of drugs with the intent of distributing it).
  23. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 06:54 AM) Garland was THISCLOSE to being traded a few days ago. It almost happened. It was reported. Now whether we choose to believe that since hes still here, hes not going anywhere, or since his name surfaced in that deal and why are we considering trading im is topic for endless discussion. The bottom line is, the SOX Organization has heard the grumblings from the fanbase and come out and made this statement. Kudos. Its a good PR move Very recently I've heard that we really weren't in fact that close to any trade for Jon Garland. The names offered were not close to enough for what Kenny was looking for. This is heard from a 3rd party who I talk to every once in a while that has some of the same contacts I have (so every once in a blue moon we'll hear something the other hasn't). Also, I've heard of some pretty crazy deals that almost went down over the past half a season and if you don't think Kenny has wanted Arod in the past your nuts, although we have in fact had the opportunity to get him (now I have no idea if he would have actually came though...cause it never got that far).
  24. QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 07:43 AM) I read today that Hall will 'probaly' go to Philly. I have no clue as to why that was said, though. The Dodgers let Hall go as a favor because Hall wants a chance to at least play on a relatively consistent basis. The Dodgers couldn't offer that with Russell Martin getting the bulk of there starts and obviously the So can't offer that with AJ here. Hall is a pretty damn fine defensive catcher who isn't too great with the bat but is obviously lightyears better than Sandy or Widger with it and is actually a pretty good hitter against LHP (which makes him a great fit). However, he wants to play and I can't blame him, he's good enough to play quite a few games for a half dozen ball clubs at the least.
