  1. QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 10:43 AM) Rotoworld is speculating that the Schmidt signing would allow LA to ship Brad Penny in a package to Boston for ManRam. Wow, that would make a lot of sense for Boston. They added offense than move Manny and with Penny and Matsueka they'd have a pretty damn formidable rotation. I have disagreed with the money going around, but Epstein would have made the BoSox a lot better.
  2. You won't win selling off year in year out. The Marlins have gotten lucky but its nearly impossible to consistently do it. When you got talent like Burgos and you want to win you start doing what you can to negotiate long term deals early (like the Indians and other middle market clubs do).
  3. Dodgers are going to be very good for a long time. Coletti is a top notch GM and Little is a good manager. Better yet they have hired tons of good baseball people throughout the other parts of the organization. The only problems are the McCourts but they seemed to be willing to take a back seat, although the wife is a total biatch.
  4. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 10:57 AM) Matz says hi. I meant in addition to that. They need to find a closer and could still use another pitcher. I wonder if Matt Clement will somehow show up this year.
  5. I like Calder and I think he would help the squad out. Gives us a solid player who should get better that has the ability to score. TalkBhawks.com will be closing its doors.
  6. The Hawks are definately playing better under Savard. I'm just glad they finally had the balls to dump that bum Yawney. Savy already got an extension too so he'll be here next season as well (I'm sure if things go well this year they'd consider giving him another 2 years).
  7. Like I said in another thread, this is a good move for the Dodgers. Its a bit much money but if your going to spend a lot of money at least get a guy who when healthy is one of the best pitchers in the NL. Plus I'd like to think he's 5.33 million a year better than Maddux.
  8. Its a lot of money but at least your overpaying for a guy that when healthy is a cy young award type pitcher. Plus its only a 3 year deal so even if he stinks you'd be able to move him to somoene willing to take a chance on him figuring things out. Dodgers are going to be pretty damn good, especially if they can move a couple prospects (and they got loads of them) for a bat like Manny.
  9. I like this move from the Mets perspective. Burgos is a killer talent. I'd have liked it if the Sox got him.
  10. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 09:41 AM) Garcia for Rollins, Rowand and Turnbow won't happen. Won't happen if we throw Anderson or whomever in there as well. I don't see any reason why the Phillies would trade Rollins and why we would need another guy who throws 95+. By all means I'm not saying it will, but thats the only way (if I were GM) I'd be cutting a deal with the Phils. Just like there is no way Hirsch is as good of a prospect as a lot of people on here seem to think.
  11. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 09:35 AM) uh yeah. Another power pitcher, a lead off hitter and a 4th OF'er Rollins Guchi Dye Thome Konerko AJP Crede Rowand Pods (sweeney or Fields may play a bit here as well) Rotation: Buehrle Count Garland Vaz Bmac Pen: Jenks Thornton MacDougall Turnbow Aardsma Logan Am I forgetting a reliever? Same bench as last year.
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 09:29 AM) On the other hand, if 88 mph Garcia shows up again, we just robbed the Astros of their best prospect. I honestly believe that KW is looking to acquire a young starting pitcher so that he can trade McCarthy also. Ya I like the idea of getting a top prospect but McCarthy is very similar to Hirsch with one major exception, McCarthy has shown he can pitch a lot more innings (did so in the minors) and Hirsch has never shown that and has always been tagged with durability issues. His numbers are filthy but his stuff isn't exactly what I'd call superior (hence why I compare him with Bmac in the first place). If I trade Freddy I look for power guys that can develop into aces because those are guys teams will always overpay for (if we do trade them later). I just think if the club uses its leverage right we could finally pull things off with the Angels and than slide Mac to the Rays for Crawford (with the Sox giving up something else as well).
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 09:18 AM) From roto... The Philadelphia Inquirer says a deal sending Jon Lieber to Milwaukee for Kevin Mench and Derrick Turnbow is in place, pending the result of the Phillies' negotiations with the White Sox. The Phillies might not make the trade unless they can get Freddy Garcia from the White Sox, probably using Aaron Rowand and Gavin Floyd. It's unclear whether that will work, and White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen isn't wild about the idea. "We have a center fielder right now," Guillen said. "I won't trade one of my pitchers one-for-one for Rowand right now. He's a good player, but we're not desperate for a center fielder. I love Aaron, but we need more." Please don't do this trade KW! If we were getting Turnbow, Rollins and Rowand I'd do it.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 09:26 AM) I have to disagree with you here. Hirsh is a big time pitching prospect, and I doubt the Astros would give him up. Also, Burke is definitely in their future plans after 2007, so I don't think they'd give him up either. I'm more concerned that the deal would focus on Tavares, who is a bad player. An outfield with Pods and Tavares would be a disaster. I'm not saying Hirsch isn't a top prospect. He's the Astros' top prospect but there are other teams that are better matches. I am not trading Freddy unless we get some special prospects because I think he's going to have a hell of a season next year.
  15. QUOTE(Shamrock4Life @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 01:09 AM) i love me some pablo. and boy is this site slow for me tonight. There was a fiber cut on the server last night so that led to some stalls.
  16. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 11:31 PM) Hirsh and Burke for Freddy G + $$$ and/or a prospect or two (Phillips, Tracey). That'd work for me. Burke could play mainly LF in 2006 2007, and switch to 2B in 2007 2008. Hirsh, despite very mediocre peripherals, had one heckuva year in the PCL last year. 2.10 ERA, under seven hits per nine. Anyone have a scouting report? He doesn't look to be at the level of a Pelfrey, but I'd say he's probably a step above Broadway. I know this looks fairly lopsided in our favor, getting six years of Hirsh and another three-four years of Burke, but as Flash said, I'm not looking for straight up equal value -- I want to make a killing! Sorry Keith, but I think we get absolutely reamed in that deal. Hirsch isn't near the prospect I want if all we are getting in addition to him is Burke (who is a decent player but will never be anything great). Freddy Garcia has been great and could still be great so there is no way I'm dealing him without getting the possibility of greatness in return (meaning upper echelon spects that can help the team now, some of which could be moved to get the club its CFer). QUOTE(GLOAD is GOD @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 07:33 AM) The Sox are in the perfect situation to explore a three or four team deal, the problem is Kenny can never really create those.......Getting a team like Houston or the New york involved with a three-team trade may be the best way to net prospects like Hirsh or Pelfrey. We got Colon in a 3 way deal.
  17. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 09:21 PM) Well there's reports that the Yankees wouldn't even be willing to deal Sanchez straight up for Buehrle so those last 2 scenerios seem highly unlikley. That report makes absolutely no sense to me though so I just can't believe that would be the case. QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 09:35 PM) KW will do his homework before trading for Farnsworth. I do not know from first hand knowledge, but I'm pretty sure I've read things here at Soxtalk that would make me very concerned about bringing him back to Chicago. He allegedly used to party a bit too much. I plead ignorance to Melky. Would he be a nice addition to the Sox? Farnsworth had some sort of chemical imbalance IIRC and it was diagnosed late in his tenure with the Cubs but I remember it was something similar to ADD and it kept him from being able to focus and since than he's taking medication to correct the problem. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 11:10 PM) Wait, Guillen concerning himself with OBP AND recognizing the failures of Scott Podsednik in such a capacity? It's really amazing to read such quotes. Especially in the wake of addressing Mackowiak's time in CF. Atleast now I'm somewhat convinced he's capable of evaluating players beyond intagibles such as speed, clubhouse demeanor, or which hand a player bats with. Still have to work with him and McCarthy, though. Ya, Ozzie pissed me off with his Bmac comments and than went out and made me very happy with his comments about Pods and a lot of other issues with the Sox last year. On a sidenote, if we get a guy to leadoff and find someone else for the 2 hole I really would be intrigued with Pods in the 9 spot.
  18. I must admit, if the club is willing to sign him to an extension, I'd be all over giving up one of our starters, Anderson and a prospect.
  19. I wonder what the Braves could offer for one of our starting pitchers (if in fact they are looking for another starter). I am starting to warm to the idea of Baldelli because I think he has the ability to be a very good player and when healthy he's already a good player, imo. The thing is the Drays seem to be asking for too much and right now we don't really have that much leeway to give up spects. However, with all our starters technically we could still offer up guys like Broadway (plus we have a batch of decent prospects like Harrell, Russell, Egbert that could draw some interest).
  20. Wow...thats what I'm talking about...aim high and than settle for Santana (which is still high). But god to get someone like Lackey...I'd be stoked. The guy is a total horse and would definately fit into our rotation most awesomely.
  21. Boston's defense got worse up the middle since Gonzalez is a stud there and Lugo is not (defensively speaking). I really don't understand why they are spending all this money on offense cause they need to upgrade the pitching staff.
  22. Just remember Drew did make a wise move opting out of his contract because he got a lot more money. This is still a far better deal than the one the Angels handed to Gary Matthews Jr. But flat out you don't win in this free agent market unless you really are just a piece away from winning it all (in which case go ahead and overpay for a star).
  23. QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 09:03 PM) That has to be a cover story to hide AROD negotiations. I can't see KW trading a starter for bullpen help. Maybe if there were some prospects involved or Melky? I think it's B.S. Or you get Melky, one of the studs from the Tigers, and a power relief arm like Farnsworth. Not saying its a deal they make but its not the worse thing in the world. I still think your more likely right and I think they are probably talking Arod but from there other talks may have occured but Kenny may have went with that and than said nah this doesn't make sense.
  24. Fullerton down 6 against the Bruins. A total joke though cause Affalo hit a 3 following a Fullerton charge as time expired. The joke was that it wasn't a charge (even the Bruins announcers were laughing about the poor call) so it should be a 2-3 point game. Lets get em Titans!!!
  25. I've closed this thread since we have had a different Arow rumor pop up and figure its nice to have a seperate thread for that for the time being. Eventually I'll reopen it and bring that other thread in with this one if that rumor quiets down.
