I think so far the GOP has made all the right moves in day 1 of a much more balanced Washington. Bottom line is if my party of choice doesn't make adjustments we could see serious democratic control starting with the next election. If they are smart they'll be very very willing to work with the democrats and basically go with a plan of letting the dem's dig there own hole (basically if the dem's really have no policy/idea it will really start to show if the repub's are very willing to work with the dem's). Of course if the dem's have some good ideas and they work well than they earned what would probably be a big time mandate in the future elections. However, considering the top leadership of the democratic party I still have my doubts as to if happening (but if it did, I won't have any problems). I just don't want us to cut out on Iraq and let the place go back to the stoneage's. We've done a lot of good there and it would be a travesty to just walk away and let it all go for not. That said I completely believe there should be a detailed plan of how we are going to start getting out of there.

QUOTE(spiderman @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 11:29 AM) Why is Newt a better option that McCain or Rudy ? Because in my mind he is the sharpest politician I've ever heard (Clinton was the smoothest). I really love the idea's he has and I think he'd be an absolutely fantastic president. Like I said, it will never happen. Just like McClintock didn't beat Arnold in the CA race (even though McClintock would have been a far better governor) but McClintock didn't stand a chance at winning either. However, its good to see McClintock and a few other repubs joining Arnold in Sacremento. Our new insurance comissioner is freaking awesome.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 10:06 AM) Barak Obama will be one of the last, if not the last, to announce his canditacy if he indeed does go. He wants to make sure that there is a near groundswell BEGGING him to run, vs him begging other people to pay attention to him. I still think if Hillary runs against Obama she will be unwilling to be anything but the president and the Clintons are real pro's at taking out candidates (they are very politically savvy) and my guess is you could see some serious canabalism amongst the party. Now if Hillary bites her tongue than maybe it would work.

As a repub I'd love for Newt Gingrich to run. I think he's an absolutely brilliant man and politician but I also know he'd stand absolutely no chance at winning, even though I think he'd make an oustanding president. I prefer him over McCain and Rudy.

I would not be a fan of the repubs calling for a recount in VA.

Ya they were all talking about this happening yesterday on Fox News.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 07:57 PM) Final totals Not me, not my other choice 3108 Not me, my other choice 2693 Me, 2585 Last place, 1172 I gotta say, I am proud of how I did. 27.0 percent of the vote in a 4 way race, with basically no financing is nothing to sneeze at. The race was energizing and the experience of a lifetime, dispite the outcome. I learned more about my hometown in a few months than I had in over 30 years of being from here. Once again, Bob, Rog, Matt, Slav, and Palehosefan I owe you guys a ton of thanks for the efforts you guys put in for me with absolutely no connection to Michigan City, and that means a lot to me. Thanks all, and who knows, maybe in another couple of years we will do it all again? Soxtalk is proud of ya Mike. You went out and stood up for something you believed in and did a hell of a job doing it. If you go for it again in a couple years hopefully people will remember your name and you can make an even bigger push. -
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 07:41 PM) Now that Ms. Pelosi is Speaker, and the world is ALL YOURS, what are you going to do, besides go to Disney Land? I seriously want to know, since most of the platform couldn't be discussed because "Karl Rove would tear it apart". I hope Pelosi goes back to her old ways and becomes a real liberal speaker of the house cause that would be a thing of beauty for the republican party. But ya, I'm convinced they will lose the senate as well which means Bush is just gonna veto pretty much everything but the immigration workers stuff. The sad thing is some good candidates lost because people were voting against Bush, not against the candidates. Sorry but thats stupid to me. You want to hate on Bush fine, but you don't nominate less qualified individuals to run your state because of it (I'm specifically focusing on Maryland). QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 07:45 PM) Nice. I didin't see the Dean crap, I mean, interview. Could you give me the high, er I mean, lowlights? He didn't say much of anything aside from we now need to come up with our plan. Brilliant....they get elected and now get to formulate something. On the bright side a chunk of the dem's that won are pretty conservative dems and I am hoping Pelosi will really drive a wedge between the conservative and liberal dem's (considering the dem's with power are the very liberal ones). It'll also be interesting to see if they kick some of the more moderate and well respected republicans off certain key committees. QUOTE(Reddy @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 07:37 AM) screw joe lieberman. all this s*** w/ montana and virginia wouldnt matter if he hadnt friggin run One of the most respected senators (I respected him when he was a democrat and I respect the hell out of him now) and a man who actually stands behind what he believes. I laugh at you all for throwing him under a bus.

QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 05:51 AM) They have their moments. The one in Cancun sucked, but I do like the one here in Chicago. The one out here and in Scottsdale is top notch. Its definately pricey but man the side of au-grautin potatoes is amazing. Oh and in Arizona, a place called Houston...best ribs EVA. It is like 20 bucks for the rack though.

Mets looking to deal Milledge/Heilman?

I did call the contract that Garland would take in that thread. Man I'm good, lol. -
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 02:28 PM) The Padres are pretty desperate for a power hitting corner OF. I think they'll end up with Iwamura (the Japanese 3Bman who was posted) and Sheffield. Dave Roberts already knows he won't be returning to the Pads as well FWIW with either Giles or Barfield to lead-off. I'd be shocked if the Pads got Sheffield back. He had a huge impact in his only year with the Pads and they still moved him onto the Marlins (albeit they got some quality in return) but there was a reason the Pads moved him and the org still has a lot of the same people around that were there than. I still remember the days when Sheff was playing 3rd.

Yes, cause we could always trade him.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 01:40 PM) Does anyone know if because my fever, headache, and overall soreness is gone, that it might be just a bad sore throat or something? That's really the only symptom I'm having, although it's bad enough to the point where It's tough to swallow or eat anything outside of apple sauce and water. If you don't see any improvement in a day I'd think pretty hard about going. I'm assuming you still feel drowsy and all that stuff?

QUOTE(longshot7 @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 11:55 AM) Yeah, my Dems are running some real bad candidates out here this year, so I voted Libertarian for Gov, and for several Repubs as well. I think generally I don't trust people who vote straight ticket, or don't disagree with at least one position that their national party holds. Yet Jerry Brown is most likey going to win. Mainly because the repub candidate is a total dumbarse too. Not as big as Brown but its pretty close. Neither are even remotely deserving of being anywhere near a public office. Brown pretty much ruined the state of California till Pete Wilson stepped in and kicked some ass.

Capital Gains tax increases would devistate the markets. I am not pleased with the spending Bush is doing but right or wrong we are in war time and at that point spending is going to be ugly (I've long said my biggest fault with Bush is how he's spending too much money). That said I still agree with the underlying principles of the party and more importantly the fact that the party will not raise taxes and continue to try and say that the top 1% should pay for absolutely everything, and that the middle class should also pony up the dough to pay for ridiculous social welfare programs that are ran completely inefficiently and irresponsibly (why throw more money into a black hole???). I stick to the same guns on education, we keep throwing more money into a hole when we should be FIXING the problem before we throw money into the cracks.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 11:47 AM) Instead of looking at the thread with all the stuff before today, I'll create a thread of its own... So, we're hearing of lawsuits already being filed by Dem lawyers. Imagine that. I'm sure it's corrupt out there!! It's the only POSSIBLE way for the GOP to win is supress the good Dems down. Seriously, it does sound like there's some issues out there. Let's hope they get resolved. I will be so happy if somehow the repub's find a way to at least hold one of the house/senate and even happier if they somehow find a way to hold both (while those odds are looking at least a remote possibility now, I still have some serious doubts). Please GOP, rock the vote...rock the vote...rock the vote!!!

That makes absolutely no sense. I assumed Bonds would finally DH.
-
My sis had it and its pretty bad (she had a real bad case of it). But after one day I wouldn't worry, if the thing sticks around and lingers than I'd start to have concerns. But if the sore throat doesn't feel like its getting better thats probably a good indication (plus some serious swelling of your limpnodes).

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Nov 6, 2006 -> 08:18 PM) Compared to Oakland, San Jose is quite a bit further than Fremont. Another question, do they become known as the Fremont Athletics of Oakland? I'd imagine they'd remain Oakland. This would basically put them in a spot where they could really draw crowds from two different markets and the San Jose area is still very wealthy (even though San Jose itself is a pretty crappy city) which would help them sell higher price luxury suites.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Nov 6, 2006 -> 10:45 PM) Browsing several internet sites earlier and came upon a scenario I've been dreading. http://www.gothambaseball.com/news/1162844521.php If Bonderman is offered on the same market as Garcia, it's not even close -- any reasonable team would rather give up top talent for Bonderman. I understand the Tigers are seeking infield options in return for Bonderman, but they'd be foolish to pass up on Pelfrey. His presence within our division is about enough to make me vomit with rage. We need Minaya desperate, and FAST. Bonderman must either be traded to another club or given confidence by Detroit he'll remain. Zito/Schmidt must be signed rather quickly by other teams across the league. DAMMIT! Why can't a team just slip up for once when dealing with us and overpay for one of our players!!11? What Detroit is doing right now is exactly what Williams should have done last offseason: shop pitchers at peak value in a market where quality starting pitchers aren't readily available. I'll continue saying it -- not trading any SP last year after obtaining Vazquez was a HUGGGEEE mistake. Aside from McCarthy, whom was expected to replace the departed pitcher. Any reasonable person would have guessed reaching the levels of which Buehrle/Contreras/Garland/Garcia reached would have been unlikely to occur again. It's almost as if Dombrowski is learning from our mistakes. While Bonderman certaintly can be expected to improve, statistically, it was by far his best overall season. Similar to our starters from 05', Bonderman could realistically repeat his performance -- but is it worth the risk of waiting? Even when suitable replacements are available in the minor league system? Hell no. If Pelfrey becomes a Tiger, it'll be worth any perceived risk associated with Bonderman continued success. This is too scary to even think about. To add upon an earlier point, either Sanchez or Miller couldn't immediately replace Bonderman's production, obviously. But if you're Detroit, and you personally believe Bonderman's value may never again match it's current position, wouldn't you take the risk if the right offer were presented? It's not as if Detroit is completely incapable of reaching the postseason without him. Even so -- a potential rotation consisting of Sanchez/Miller/VErlander/Pelfrey is one I'd be willing to accept mediocrity (in 07) for. Are you nuts, if the Tigers want to trade Bonderman for Pelfrey and an infielder I'll laugh all the way to the division title cause the Tigers would be trading a studly right arm that has proven himself for a right arm that hasn't. Its one thing if your trading a vet for him, but Bondy is still very young and has tons of good years ahead of him. And if they want Adam Dunn and give up Bondy in a package for him I'll laugh just as hard. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 04:13 AM) Some thoughts on the topic at hand here; 1) Bonderman isn't going to get traded for young pitching. Detroit already has plenty of that in the likes of Sanchez, Zumaya, Verlander and Tata. If they trade Bonderman, it'll be for a LHH power hitting first baseman like Mark Teixeira. Now would you do Jim Thome for Jeremy Bonderman? 2) There's absolutely no way we get Mike Pelfrey. He's basically the Mets version of Brandon McCarthy. Phillip Humber I think is certainly attainable though, especially consdiering his arm problems which makes it a risk though. Humber and Gomez for Garcia could be a possible deal perhaps, but I'd like KW to look elsewhere, to the Texas Rangers. Try to pry John Danks away, or Eric Hurley or Thomas Diamond. 3) KW's going to have to wait until the FA market settles until we can see a trade of a SP here I feel. The Mets will probably try to fill their SP need from FA, before having to settle for a trade for a guy like Garcia or Vazquez. Luckily for us, that's where the inflated market value for pitching comes in. Jarrod Washburn's 4 year $36M deal he got last season is a perfext example. I'd run home screaming like a little girl if we got Bonderman for Thome, but it won't happen. If we are giving up a front of the line starter than we should try to acquire top of the line talent. -
Mets looking to deal Milledge/Heilman?

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 5, 2006 -> 08:06 PM) Love that Kenny is aiming high. Milledge and Pelfrey is probably unrealistic, but who cares? Sometimes GMs do dumb things, and with Pedro's hurt shoulder and the overall lack of good starting pitchers for the Mets, you never know. I'd take a step down (although some people might consider Heilman>Humber) and ask for Heilman + Milledge. If need be, see if Cintron intrigues the Mets at all as a guy who could complete their 2nd-base platoon. Pelfrey and Humber, not Milledge are the must have's in any deal with the Mets. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 6, 2006 -> 10:50 AM) As long as young pitching is one of the items that comes back. I can live with Haeger, Broadway, or some combination of those 2 and whoever we pick up in trades holding down the 5th starter spot if it leads to resigning Crede, Buehrle, Dye, Iguchi, adding in 2 young pitching prospects, and filling in our LF/SS/leadoff hitter holes. But it only works if we add in more young pitching. It is unacceptable to have Haeger or Broadway as our 5th starters on opening day. Thats not what potential world series champion teams do. I'd understand if we were talking about one of the premiere prospects in all of baseball, but now we'd have two rookies (McCarthy and one of that duo) in our rotation. -
QUOTE(RME JICO @ Nov 4, 2006 -> 05:57 AM) I know Podsednik is out of favor with the Sox, but would Figgins be that big of an upgrade? A ridiculous upgrade. Sorry but I've seen a lot of Figgins and a lot of Pods and they are in totally different leagues (I don't care what the stats say either).
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 10:06 AM) That just it, we didn't. Brandon McCarthy actually regressed through last year, and what are we doing with him? Trading a starting pitcher to move him into the rotation. There is something up with Brian specifically. First we got to actually do it. But I don't necessarily think McCarthy regressed, he learned some things and stayed mature and strong throughout the season. That said he still wasn't awful. Yes he struggled like heck out of the pen but BA flat out stunk. However I love BA's attitude and can't believe the Sox don't like it either.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 10:06 AM) Well, if that's the case, we better not be seeing some crappy stopgap solution. I don't expect that. I would not be pleased if that were the case.
