QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 10:02 AM) I'm pretty sure we got to that point because of chemistry, pitching and defense as well as hitting. No doubt, Brian sucked at the plate for the majority of the year, but it seems strange that we'd change our modus operandi after something got us to point B. I don't mean keeping the same personnel, but the same way of getting things done. This years third place finish was a total team effort, that's for sure. I think he's referring to the fact that we need to have a ton of cheap players around. If the post-world series team wants to spend 115-120 million than they can do so without as much reliance on the farm system (notice I don't say without any because you still need to have talent to use in trades or to ocassionally bring up). However I still think this team could make other moves and decide Anderson isn't the guy. Right now I think its 80/20 that Anderson won't be the starting CFer (if not higher). I think its about 40/60 as to whether he's even in the org next year.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 09:55 AM) He can be Aaron Rowand, though, which I believe many people would be fine with. On a side note, 20 pounds in two weeks...jesus. I don't think thats all that likely. He's have to make serious adjustments to get to that. I laughed last year when everyone said he'd do better than Aaron offensively. Aaron had his flaws at the plate but he's a superior offensive player to Anderson (at this point in time). Defensively Anderson was damn good but Rowand is still top notch as well and if we had Rowand he would have been out there (had he stayed healthy). I'm not saying we shouldn't have traded Rowand though, so don't put me in that category. But I laugh at all this blind optimism about Anderson.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 09:56 AM) It ought to be interesting to see how stocks react to this election. I would be willing to bet if the Dems win both houses of Congress, we have seen the highs in stocks for a while. I have absolutely no doubt about that. In fact if things are looking real bad in the polls you may see things start early with a losing day on Monday (in the market). I have such strong beliefs against the economic principles of the democratic party that I'll be sickened if they take control. My only hope is if they do, that in 2 years somehow the Repubs can re-organize and find a way to get back in (but regardless they will need to somehow win the presidency cause that would be HUUGE). And obviously I'm more extreme than some people on this issue but right now I think the democratic party has gotten so far left its absolutely mind-boggling and to me frightening.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 07:54 AM) Rex, you think that a Democratic Congress WANTS to work with the President? No personal offense, here... but what the f*** planet are you on? Look at the constant negativity and personal crap that's spewed every day from the Democrats... and they want to work with this president? Come on. All they do is railroad and say this nad that and yet for the past 6 years they have not once ever came up with any legit ideas. They just seem to say things will magically be better if you elect the democrats. I want to know how things would magically be better (personally speaking things are going peachy on my end) and I feel a whole hell of a lot safer with the GOP in charge as opposed to the democratic party (especially considering who some of the big power guys are on the democratic side). Plus I completely side with the GOP on how to handle businesses. Now if only we could keep the GOP in power and hammer out this tort reform bulls***. Nothing would be greater to the US economy than finding a way to rid the economy with all these ridiculous frivilous lawsuits that cost billions of dollars. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 08:04 AM) And it doesn't flow both ways? I never said that a republican house/senate would work well with a democratic president? My goal of having a repub house/senate would be exactly what the democrats goal would be to try and prevent the president from doing what they sought as being "bad" for the country. THe only difference is GOP has there view of whats good/bad and Democrats have there view.
-
I hope the GOP pubs the hell out of this. Its some good news that could maybe help them retain control of at least one of the house/senate. :prays

Ya, I don't get it. Why couldn't they have moved in immediately?

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 2, 2006 -> 11:58 PM) Louisville is in for a battle a week from now. Next Thursday, at Rutgers. Rutgers is undefeated, it's a night road game, the crowd will be wild, and Ray Rice and Brian Leonard will do bad things to that Louisville run defense. That one could go either way. Plus they also have Pitt left on the schedule and they are decent. It should be another damn good Thursday night game in a week when Rutgers/Ville square off. -
QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 08:33 AM) Yes they should, because he can play 3B, 2B, the corner outfield spots and is a LHB. Ozzie players that give him flexibility (see: Cintron, Ozuna, even Gload). The thing is we didn't play him at 3B or 2B. We now have Sweeney and Josh Fields who could potentially grab that spot. Plus we are going to have a new everyday CFer so I think Cintron is more valuable because he can play 3B, SS, and 2B plus we have Pablo who is capable of the same plus play some pathetic OF.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 05:40 AM) Well that's it. There is something going on with Anderson in the clubhouse that we haven't been told yet. Either #1, he's lazy, or #2, he's a complete jackass and pissed off his whole team, or #3 a (the D-angelo Jimenez as I like to call it) combination of both I mean think about it, the Sox were willing to put a guy out there all of the time who self-admitedly could not play CF over Brian. I have no doubts something extra is going on there... Kenny likes him but the vibe I continued to get was that Ozzie wasn't going to use him nor is he a big fan. I can't necessarily blame him cause he has one of the most dreadful swings/approaches in all of baseball. I've said a lot this year that I expect us to have a new CF and almost every one of my off-season lineups has not included Anderson (unless we seriously upgrade SS and LF with speed) because the writing seems to be on the wall. I expect him to be dealt along with one of our pitchers in a deal that helps get us a potential young star. Maybe a Michael Young. I could also see a Brian Anderson for Chone Figgins deal. The Angels drasticaly want to upgrade there defense in CF and Anderson could be that guy, but only if they are able to get offense elsewhere (Ramirez and maybe someone else). But Anderson would be an asset considering how crappy Vladdy/Anderson are in LF/RF. QUOTE(Scwible @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 08:40 AM) I'm with SS as well. Something has to be going on in the organization about BA. Mack says he isn't the best center fielder but yet they keep trotting him out there as BA sits on the bench, with no time to improve at anything. It was because of the absolute lack of productive outs. Ozzie was dumb and BA should have been playing more but you can go around and talk to any scout and they'll tell you if BA doens't make serious adjustments he'll never hit in this league (the tools are there, but he has some serious adjustments to make to his swing). I was shocked his swing worked in AA and AAA because I think a lot of scouts were expecting a hiccup there and than he'd be able to make adjustments a couple years ago, but it kept working and now he will have to make them at the major league level. I do not buy into the BA will be a superstar though. But I do think with hard work he can be one of the better all around CF's in the game (solid avg, solid pop...terrific defense).

The Ville beats WVU. What a great game. -
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Nov 2, 2006 -> 04:52 PM) good call - staying in Phoenix is always nice. I really like games at the Giants park. Ya, I probably won't make the drive to Tuscon this year. I think they play the Angels and Giants (both are pretty nice facilities, plus I think the Angels facelift will be completed this year) and than I'll probably see 2 non-Sox games (I also just like seeing other teams play and the different facilities). Its always one of the things I really look forward to. The whole Phoenix area is real nice, the weather is usually good, and on top of things you get to see baseball during the day and take advantage of a nice city at night. And ya, the Giants facility is awesome. Its been a while since I was there and I'm going to have to remember to get my tickets relatively early cause Giants spring games usually sell out fast (since its in Scottsdale and is a happening stadium to go to).
-
I'm there the very last weekend of the spring training season (sat/sun/mon/tues). Already booked my PTO. I'll also be taking opening day off (hells ya...after 3 months of working 55 hr's per minimum I figure I deserve a break).

Great game tonight....one of the unbeatens will fall. -
Grudz had a pretty darn good year. I don't know if he was the very best but he's pretty damn solid. I got no problem with that.

Ya, its a complete silent auction. Seibu (who is the team posting him) doesn't even know which team wins the bid, they are just told what the highest bid is ($ wise) and than decide whether to accept or decline it. At that point if its accepted, than whichever team won the bid would have a month to negotiate. If they come to terms on a contract than they have to pay Seibu but if the two teams can't reach an agreement, Seibu gets no money and Matsuzaka goes back to the Japanese league. I always wonder if a team like the Red Sox or Yanks could just bid an insane amt to block the player from the other team, but than have absolutely no intention on making a realistic bid to sign the player, thus forcing him to stay in Japan. I'd hope Selig would prevent such a thing, but if I were the Yanks or BoSox and had fear I was going to lose out on the player, I'd definately consider doing it.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Major league teams wishing to sign Japanese pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka must submit their offers by 5 p.m. EST next Wednesday -- and the Seattle Mariners won't be bidding. Matsuzaka was officially put up for auction Thursday by the Seibu Lions of Japan's Pacific League. After the bidding has closed, the Lions will be told of the highest offer, without being informed of which team made it. The Lions have until Nov. 14 to accept. If the offer is accepted, the big league team that made the bid is notified and gets a 30-day window to reach a contract agreement with Matsuzaka, who is represented by agent Scott Boras. The Lions only receive the payment from the major league team if Matsuzaka is signed to a big league contract. The New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox and New York Mets are thought to be interested in Matsuzaka. Matsuzaka was MVP of the World Baseball Classic in March, then went 17-5 with a 2.13 ERA and 200 strikeouts for the Lions. He throws in the high-90s mph, has good offspeed pitches and is known for the "gyroball," a pitch that breaks to the left. Seattle general manager Bill Bavasi said Thursday that the Mariners won't bid. Bavasi said the decision was made by Nintendo Co. president Hiroshi Yamauchi, the boss of team chairman Howard Lincoln. "Mr. Yamauchi has decided that the Mariners will not be participating in the bid process, a decision with which our baseball department concurs," Bavasi said. "We will continue to pursue other ways other ways to improve the team, specifically our pitching."

QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ Nov 2, 2006 -> 02:45 PM) Torii Hunter doesnt deserve a GG this year when he was in, he was decent in the field, but not GG quality I'd have given it to Gary Matthews Jr myself. -
The GOP needs to get something positive going and fast otherwise it could be a nigthmare election that could have a real negative effect on our country (sorry but I have my strong leanings to the GOP and I think them losing control of the house and/or senate will be a terrible thing for our country). I've already seen the democratic party hamper a great state like California. Albeit we have great weather, but economically we've lost tons of big time businesses to other states because of our ridiculous anti business laws that pretty much cripple big and middle businessman (even small businessmen).

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 2, 2006 -> 12:25 PM) Actually, I'm pretty sure I'm even not voting straight ticket. Really dislike the guy the Dems are running for Insurance Commissioner out here, IIRC. Ya, a good chunk of the dems are even voting for the GOP insurance comissioner. He's a really really strong candidate, imo. Too bad we have the biggest knuckleheads in the world running for attorney general. UGGGH. Jerry Brown may actually be our attorney general, quite possibly the one person who was an even worse governor than Gray Davis. In fact I'm almost positive Brown was worse.

Chavez win it again? A real travesty in my book, that said Chavez is damn good too.

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Nov 2, 2006 -> 01:06 PM) Rick Hahn was on the score yesterday and he pretty much confirmed that BMac WILL be in the rotation next year. He also confirmed that one of the starters will be traded to make room for him. So unless TB wants Contreras, Vazquez or Garcia we WONT get Crawford. As talented as Crawford is, this team doesn't need him to get to the next level. WHat I expect to happen based on reading articles and from your awesome money charts is for KW to trade Garcia (whome has the highest value out of the 3 I mentioned) and most likely Uribe as his defense attracts many teams around the league for a guy like Michael Young (a guy Hahn, KW and Ozzie absolutely LOVE). Texas needs pitching also and with a defensive shortstop who is cabable of hitting 20+ HRs a season they wouldn't be getting screwed from this deal in any stretch of the imagination. From there they can FINALLY plug BMac into the rotation and then go ahead and sign either Pierre or Roberts to fill that LF/lead off role that we missed last season. Hmmm but what will they do with Pods?!? I truley believe KW can find a solid reliever for him. Many teams are desperate for a speedy OFer. And despite his 2006 dissapointing season, many teams will show interest in him this offseason. From there they can find one more reliever via free agency and we shall be set. Your 2007 White Sox: Pierre or Roberts LF Young SS Dye RF Thome DH Konerko 1B Iguchi 2B Crede 3B AJ C Anderson CF Rotation: Buerhle, Garland, Contreras, Vazquez, McCarthy Bullpen: Jenks, Mac, Thorton, Cotts, (reliever for Pods) (reliever free agency or Haegar) Bench: Pretty much the same. We may see Cintron be apart of a deal also, then KW can bring Willy Harris back. As then Willy Harris can bring GROUP 4 back! Thats what i expect to happen and im sticking to it GO SOX in 2007 Not awful, but I think I'd want to get a prospect back in that deal of Garcia and Uribe for Young. I like Michael Young a lot but for us to give up one of our top veteran pitchers without getting a good pitching prospect back concerns me. That said if we signed Roberts or Pierre that would be a very nice 1-2 with either and Young. I still prefer a top of the order that includes Crawford but I'd have no complaints with that lineup.
-
I wonder who will go after him. Angels could use a bat but I still don't think he'd be a good fit there specifically because he'd totally clog up the basepaths (plus I think they are going to spend big bucks to get there bat). Mariners could use a DH with some pop and obviously Oakland could keep him or a team like the Orioles could go for a veteran. Truly I don't see that many teams in the AL that would really have the need for big Frank.
-
Quick question, where can I go to get the original episodes or would it be okay if I started watching from this point forward (I assume this is one of those shows where you need to see the episodes though).
-
I think he's a potential Rule V pick so we'd have to protect him. Not 100% but pretty sure he is and no I wouldn't protect him. Sure he's solid, but I think there are other guys that should be on the 40 over him.

Brilliant...absolutely brilliant.
