QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 10:42 PM) But the problem is, he really has nothing more to do or prove at triple A. And if we keep him on the major league team, having him on the bench will just stunt his growth further. So either he needs to be our starting CF to begin the season or we need to trade him. I think R&W is saying that if you can upgrade in CF you do it, you don't just sit around expecting Anderson to become great. I know one thing, I think he can be great defensively in CF, but that doesn't mean he'll be a good player. Considering our other option was Mack, BA should have been playing everyday. However, if we have the ability to upgrade to someone who can do both I see no harm in doing it because I don't think BA has shown enough of anything to ever think he'll be a solid major leaguer (thats still a big question-mark). That said I know he has power potential and stolen base potential so if he can correct his holes he can be a Torri Hunter type player.

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 08:48 PM) ^^^^^ SoxTalk hype on Podsednik's defense. The guy's an absolute joke in the field and he was a joke on the basepaths last year to boot.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 03:00 PM) I'm getting conned into going as Peter Pan since that's the only main charecter missing in their group. ROFL, my girlfriend wanted me to go as Peter Pan with her as tinkerbell and I was like screw that.

Drop it, everyone drop it. Lets get back to the issue/subject at hand which involves Uribe and handcuffs and no I'm not talking about him handcuffing himself at the plate when he jams himself.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 02:46 PM) Exactly. If Kenny did give Oz what he wants,(Pierre) I would pray to God KW lays out the plan for Ozzie, that he is our LF, not the CF... Say it again, our new LF, not CF... Either way its a serious upgrade over Pods in LF or Mack in CF so count me in. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 02:51 PM) I just wish that somehow our team could actually focus on finding a leadoff hitter who actually fits with the makeup of the rest of the team. We have a murderous 3-4-5 with a ton of power. We hit a sh*t load of home runs. Stealing bases in front of those type of guys does not have nearly as high of an impact on run production as simply being on base. It's not a bad thing if you're not thrown out a lot, but it's not going to be the end-all-be-all. If you could find me a LF/SS with an OBP somewhere above .350 or .360, I'd be very happy...and spend the rest of my money on pitching. The problem is, when we weren't hitting HR's and against good pitching its harder to hit HR's, we were unable to manufacture any runs. With some speed we may lose a few bigger innings by running out of things, but we will have more capabilities to score in games where its hard to come by runs (ie the one's where we are going up against a top notch pitcher and aren't able to slam a few Hr's).
-
With all our HR power, why not just play Pierre in left and have him replace Pods. I have zero problem with it because he's the exact sort of guy we need to have in our lineup if Ozzie is going to continue to be our manager (which he will).

QUOTE(beautox @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 11:25 AM) Fair enough he will be making 1/2 of his starts in the (Bronx#27), but he will have to pitch at the Rogers Centre(#7), Tropicana Field(#11), Fenway(#13), Camden Yards(#17) while facing a DH in a superior league. His ERA will go up .5-1.5 brining his ERA to 4-5.5, and i imagine his BB rate would stay the same while his SO rate would drop down a significant amount. Park Factor Link But do you really put Zambrano on the same level as Johan? Yes and I'd be shocked if 99% of baseball exec's wouldn't do the same. I'm not saying he's as good as Johan (Johan's the best in baseball) but he's the premiere pitcher in the NL as far as I'm concerned and would be the 2nd best pitcher in the AL.
-
QUOTE(beautox @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 10:09 AM) Those numbers scream to me that he will get eaten alive in the AL, and for further proof look at his splits against AL teams. I will say this again Zambrano to the AL = Josh Beckett x 2, and which Santana are you talkin about, I surely hope Ervin; because if your talking about Johan I'm at a loss for words. EDIT: spelling. On another note, if Alex does void his NTC doesn't an opition year get added onto his contract because of the CBA just like Thome and Vazquez? so we would have him under contract till 2011? I will point out that Beckett pitched in a notorious pitchers park while Carlos has done what he has in a hitters park.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 05:41 AM) Adrian Beltre got just under $13 mill a year and a limited no trade clause over 5 years for 1 outstanding season and gold glove defense. What makes you think Joe Crede can't get the same contract with 2-3 years of very good offensive years and gold glove defense? I should add that Beltre's season was arguably the best single season ever by a 3rd baseman.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 07:46 AM) I would guess that Lou will at least reconsider ALL of the coaching staff. I am sure that Rothschild will be on the list for Lou to think about possibly removing. Well Roth was a part of Lou's staff in Cinncy, IIRC.

QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 10:21 PM) It wouldn't surprise me if Dusty Baker got the job. It would shock me. A, the A's aren't gonna spend a ton of money for a manager (especially when they are already paying Macha 2 mill) and B, Baker isn't going to just sit there and be told what to do by Beane. If I were a proven mgr (and Baker is that, even though he didn't actually do that great with the Cubs) there is absolutely no way I'd take the A's job. In fact, I'd do all I could not to take that job, unless my only other choice was something like the Dray job.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 01:42 AM) The Cubs would probably have to include the likes of Ramirez, Rich Hill and Scott Eyre to at least get the Yanks thinking about an offer. But I'm still on the Garcia and Crede for A-Rod deal bandwagon if there's going to be a deal done here. Isn't Ramirez expected to buy out of his contract and become a free agent? I know the talk out here is the Angels may very well make a push at signing Aramis. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 08:44 AM) I honestly think A-Rod would go back to SS. And they would either sign a FA or bring up Josh Fields. Also, there's a pitcher out there we may want to consider: Doug Davis. had a down year this year, but had a hell of a year last year. Just throwing that out there. Oh yeah, and Jason...NO TO MANNY! Pods was difficult enough to watch in LF...I couldn't even imagine watching Manny being Manny. Manny is vastly superior to Pods in lf. The only major knock when it comes to Manny's defense is whether he tries. When he does try (which contrary to popular belief is most of the time) he's actually pretty darn solid out there. Now I don't know how he'd do having to cover a bit more ground (not having the monster) but he is very very good at getting off quick and accurate throws and actually throwing guys out. I watched a lot of Manny in LF this past year and my opinion of his defense greatly changed and I now thing he's a better fielder than anyone gives him credit for. QUOTE(beautox @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 09:22 AM) I posted this over at WSI but i was wondering what everyone here thinks. Anyone else think that Zambrano coming to the AL would make him the new Josh Beckett? He would no longer be able to bean/walk the #7 hitter to face a weak hitting catcher, and then an equally weak hitting pitcher to get out of a Jam. I have a hard time seeing him being successful in an organization like the Yankees where the FO, fan base and media puts accountability on their players, look what he did on a 96 loss cub team. Zambrano's '06 ERA 3.41 WHIP 1.29 BAA .208 IP 214 115BB/210SO with 9HBP 20HRs GO/AO 1.28 Beckett's '05 ERA 3.37 WHIP 1.18 BAA .234 IP 178.2 58BB/166SO with 7HBP 14HRs GO/AO 1.14 Are you kidding me. Zambrano is one of the more ridiculously great pitchers in the game. Aside from Santana, I think he's the best pitcher in baseball. Plus he's a total beast/work horse.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 10:32 PM) Neither is Alex. Dye didn't excel out of the 3 spot and neither did the offense. The offense basically started to sputter when Jermaine was moved to the 3 hole. Now I doubt there is a direct correlation there but it certainly wasn't something that was going to make our lineup a whole lot better like some people thought. Arod may just find himself in the 2 spot in that situation.
-
Beane continues to be an egocentric prick. Never gives a manager enough credit (of course too many people give mgr's too much credit).

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 01:19 PM) Interesting proposal, Jason. If the White Sox are going to make a big splash this offseason, Ramirez's name has to be considered. Do you think the BoSox would consider that? I'm assuming they may finally act on the usual Manny wants to be traded off-season dilemma and I'd like to think that Buehrle is the top of guy that they'd love to get in return for Manny. Plus, based on what I've heard from a few BoSox fans, they really don't want anything to do with Coco Crisp (who had a down season, but would still look a lot better at the top of the order than Pods). Its pretty clear they'll need pitching and while Buehrle is coming off a bad year, its not like he's over the hill or anything. Heck, that could turn into a total coup if Buehrle were to respond and pitch like the Buehrle Sox fans came to love.

I still can't get over that Iowa game. Wow, I knew we weren't as good as some experts said we'd be, but I didn't think we'd lose to IU. -
QUOTE(BamaJason @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 09:24 PM) IMO, Getz is the best 2B I have seen at the Barons since Aaron Miles. Great glove and consistent hitter. I hope to see him again next season, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if he gets the call. Welcome aboard and thanks for your insite. Judging by your name, I take it you see at least a few Baron's games a year? The thing I like about Getz is his ability to play multiple positions (since I see him as a utility player in the long run).

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 01:06 PM) One problem next season is adding together Matsuzaka's salary AND the cost of paying his former team for negotiating rights. Those two together could realistically run over 20 million. Rodriguez would cost well under this-- especially if McCarthy and Crede were traded. Remove Garcia and it becomes more realistic, but then again, there's the issue of raises across the team. I also would like to throw another name out there. If we want to talk about Arod, why not talk about the possibility of Manny Ramirez. We need a left fielder and we could probably get him without giving up much. Just throwing it out there, no matter how un-realistic it is. I'm pretty sure a Buehrle for Ramirez (and if we wanted Crisp we could ask for him too) deal would work, with the BoSox also including a good chunk of cash. Than we'd again have the ability to try and swing other deals to fill the rest of the holes (using Pods, other starters and whoever else). QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 01:06 PM) One problem next season is adding together Matsuzaka's salary AND the cost of paying his former team for negotiating rights. Remove Garcia and it becomes more realistic, but then again, there's the issue of raises across the team. In that case, you also have one other factor. Is it worth/smart paying 20 million for a guy thats never pitched in the majors. If we were willing to add that much payroll, what starter could we trade for. Could we work a deal for Ben Sheets (who had some injury problems this past season and of course in years past) or some other starter who we could get for less in terms of players given up because we'd be willing to take on salary.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 15, 2006 -> 11:41 PM) Joe Crede doesn't deserve 10 million dollars, regardless of how many years that deal would be worth. He's a 10 mill a year player if he can duplicate last years numbers. I think he's capable of similar numbers and I think he's the type of guy that could be a very very good player. I'd never consider him a super star though because I don't think of him ever developing into more than a 5 hitter. However, when you add in above average offensive ability with gold glove defense, well thats value. Plus the whole leadership qualities and all that jazz help too.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 12:50 PM) Charley Steiner, isn't it? Thats the guy. I always think of him as "bearded" guy. -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 12:09 PM) Heres the question, would you rather trade those pieces for A-rod or spend the same amount of money on Matsuzaka? The thing is the Sox wouldn't do that. I think if they got someone like Arod, it would be a guy that JR banks on using as the face of the franchise in the post world series era. The type of guy we market around, the type of guy we use to continue building positive PR in the city and as a whole turning this franchise into being more than just that 2nd baseball team in Chicago. However, logically speaking if we were willing to do both, I'd probably opt for Matsuzuka. But whose to say we can't pick up Arod and Matsuzuka while eventually landing Arod for a package involving one of Garcia/Buehrle/Vazquez and Josh Fields. Than in turn we swing another deal involving one of those remaining arms to another team for a prospect or two (maybe nothing stellar) but more of a financial wash). Mix that with the eventual non-tender of Pods (or trade) and a move of Uribe and we'd be able to keep a very similar payroll that the team has now. Another alternative option would of course be to move one of our bats to free up salary as well. I think we have a lot of options, the question is how many moves does Kenny want to make and how many of them will be contingent type moves which may hurt our leverage (in terms of what we could get for a guy). QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 12:50 PM) Agreed. Matsu is 26 years old and has been dominating professionals in and out of Japan. I would rather overpay for his talents for the next several years, than take on A-rod for more money. I want to ask one thing. I thought Matsu had some arm troubles this year. Am I correct in this line of thought and if so what were the extent of them? By the way I'd love to get Matsu, but to do so we'd obviously have to move two pitchers (which I have no problem doing). I think Buehrle and Garcia/Vaz will be the one's that go. I really think we could get a ton for Mark and the reality is that he had some serious troubles, yet still has serious value and in a year we may not be able to afford him anyway so now may be the very best time. Of course if I had a crystal ball and knew last year was just an abberation, than I'd give him whatever it took and keep him a career White Sox (cause I think he's a tremendous leader and right now on pace to have a HOF career).

QUOTE(Steff @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 12:45 PM) The problem is that it is long rumored that the Cubs are run from a higer office than the manager. Lou wont stand for this. And if it's true, he'll quit before spring training is over. I think with McPhail there, who is really a very good baseball guy, there was a lot less pull from Tribune's upper mgmt. However, over the past year or two there has been a shift back to where the baseball guys have there hands tied more often than not. In the end I think McPhail was sick of dealing with it, however he also knew the results with him at the helm weren't pretty so he resigned.

For those tossing Lyon's name out there with our radio job, I'd just like to point out that Lyon's does a good chunk of work with the Dodgers on TV. Scully only does a few innings a game. To be honest I'm not quite sure how the Dodgers booth works, but you have Scully at times and at other times you have Lyon's and a former ESPN guy (whose name escapes me at the second).
