  1. Capital Gains tax increases would devistate the markets. I am not pleased with the spending Bush is doing but right or wrong we are in war time and at that point spending is going to be ugly (I've long said my biggest fault with Bush is how he's spending too much money). That said I still agree with the underlying principles of the party and more importantly the fact that the party will not raise taxes and continue to try and say that the top 1% should pay for absolutely everything, and that the middle class should also pony up the dough to pay for ridiculous social welfare programs that are ran completely inefficiently and irresponsibly (why throw more money into a black hole???). I stick to the same guns on education, we keep throwing more money into a hole when we should be FIXING the problem before we throw money into the cracks.
  2. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 11:47 AM) Instead of looking at the thread with all the stuff before today, I'll create a thread of its own... So, we're hearing of lawsuits already being filed by Dem lawyers. Imagine that. I'm sure it's corrupt out there!! It's the only POSSIBLE way for the GOP to win is supress the good Dems down. Seriously, it does sound like there's some issues out there. Let's hope they get resolved. I will be so happy if somehow the repub's find a way to at least hold one of the house/senate and even happier if they somehow find a way to hold both (while those odds are looking at least a remote possibility now, I still have some serious doubts). Please GOP, rock the vote...rock the vote...rock the vote!!!
  3. That makes absolutely no sense. I assumed Bonds would finally DH.

My sis had it and its pretty bad (she had a real bad case of it). But after one day I wouldn't worry, if the thing sticks around and lingers than I'd start to have concerns. But if the sore throat doesn't feel like its getting better thats probably a good indication (plus some serious swelling of your limpnodes).
  5. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Nov 6, 2006 -> 08:18 PM) Compared to Oakland, San Jose is quite a bit further than Fremont. Another question, do they become known as the Fremont Athletics of Oakland? I'd imagine they'd remain Oakland. This would basically put them in a spot where they could really draw crowds from two different markets and the San Jose area is still very wealthy (even though San Jose itself is a pretty crappy city) which would help them sell higher price luxury suites.
  6. Hey, I'd make that move, deal Thome pick up Bonds for a little less....really make the clubhouse interesting
  7. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Nov 6, 2006 -> 10:45 PM) Browsing several internet sites earlier and came upon a scenario I've been dreading. http://www.gothambaseball.com/news/1162844521.php If Bonderman is offered on the same market as Garcia, it's not even close -- any reasonable team would rather give up top talent for Bonderman. I understand the Tigers are seeking infield options in return for Bonderman, but they'd be foolish to pass up on Pelfrey. His presence within our division is about enough to make me vomit with rage. We need Minaya desperate, and FAST. Bonderman must either be traded to another club or given confidence by Detroit he'll remain. Zito/Schmidt must be signed rather quickly by other teams across the league. DAMMIT! Why can't a team just slip up for once when dealing with us and overpay for one of our players!!11? What Detroit is doing right now is exactly what Williams should have done last offseason: shop pitchers at peak value in a market where quality starting pitchers aren't readily available. I'll continue saying it -- not trading any SP last year after obtaining Vazquez was a HUGGGEEE mistake. Aside from McCarthy, whom was expected to replace the departed pitcher. Any reasonable person would have guessed reaching the levels of which Buehrle/Contreras/Garland/Garcia reached would have been unlikely to occur again. It's almost as if Dombrowski is learning from our mistakes. While Bonderman certaintly can be expected to improve, statistically, it was by far his best overall season. Similar to our starters from 05', Bonderman could realistically repeat his performance -- but is it worth the risk of waiting? Even when suitable replacements are available in the minor league system? Hell no. If Pelfrey becomes a Tiger, it'll be worth any perceived risk associated with Bonderman continued success. This is too scary to even think about. To add upon an earlier point, either Sanchez or Miller couldn't immediately replace Bonderman's production, obviously. But if you're Detroit, and you personally believe Bonderman's value may never again match it's current position, wouldn't you take the risk if the right offer were presented? It's not as if Detroit is completely incapable of reaching the postseason without him. Even so -- a potential rotation consisting of Sanchez/Miller/VErlander/Pelfrey is one I'd be willing to accept mediocrity (in 07) for. Are you nuts, if the Tigers want to trade Bonderman for Pelfrey and an infielder I'll laugh all the way to the division title cause the Tigers would be trading a studly right arm that has proven himself for a right arm that hasn't. Its one thing if your trading a vet for him, but Bondy is still very young and has tons of good years ahead of him. And if they want Adam Dunn and give up Bondy in a package for him I'll laugh just as hard. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 04:13 AM) Some thoughts on the topic at hand here; 1) Bonderman isn't going to get traded for young pitching. Detroit already has plenty of that in the likes of Sanchez, Zumaya, Verlander and Tata. If they trade Bonderman, it'll be for a LHH power hitting first baseman like Mark Teixeira. Now would you do Jim Thome for Jeremy Bonderman? 2) There's absolutely no way we get Mike Pelfrey. He's basically the Mets version of Brandon McCarthy. Phillip Humber I think is certainly attainable though, especially consdiering his arm problems which makes it a risk though. Humber and Gomez for Garcia could be a possible deal perhaps, but I'd like KW to look elsewhere, to the Texas Rangers. Try to pry John Danks away, or Eric Hurley or Thomas Diamond. 3) KW's going to have to wait until the FA market settles until we can see a trade of a SP here I feel. The Mets will probably try to fill their SP need from FA, before having to settle for a trade for a guy like Garcia or Vazquez. Luckily for us, that's where the inflated market value for pitching comes in. Jarrod Washburn's 4 year $36M deal he got last season is a perfext example. I'd run home screaming like a little girl if we got Bonderman for Thome, but it won't happen. If we are giving up a front of the line starter than we should try to acquire top of the line talent.
  8. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 5, 2006 -> 08:06 PM) Love that Kenny is aiming high. Milledge and Pelfrey is probably unrealistic, but who cares? Sometimes GMs do dumb things, and with Pedro's hurt shoulder and the overall lack of good starting pitchers for the Mets, you never know. I'd take a step down (although some people might consider Heilman>Humber) and ask for Heilman + Milledge. If need be, see if Cintron intrigues the Mets at all as a guy who could complete their 2nd-base platoon. Pelfrey and Humber, not Milledge are the must have's in any deal with the Mets. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 6, 2006 -> 10:50 AM) As long as young pitching is one of the items that comes back. I can live with Haeger, Broadway, or some combination of those 2 and whoever we pick up in trades holding down the 5th starter spot if it leads to resigning Crede, Buehrle, Dye, Iguchi, adding in 2 young pitching prospects, and filling in our LF/SS/leadoff hitter holes. But it only works if we add in more young pitching. It is unacceptable to have Haeger or Broadway as our 5th starters on opening day. Thats not what potential world series champion teams do. I'd understand if we were talking about one of the premiere prospects in all of baseball, but now we'd have two rookies (McCarthy and one of that duo) in our rotation.

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Nov 4, 2006 -> 05:57 AM) I know Podsednik is out of favor with the Sox, but would Figgins be that big of an upgrade? A ridiculous upgrade. Sorry but I've seen a lot of Figgins and a lot of Pods and they are in totally different leagues (I don't care what the stats say either).
  10. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 10:06 AM) That just it, we didn't. Brandon McCarthy actually regressed through last year, and what are we doing with him? Trading a starting pitcher to move him into the rotation. There is something up with Brian specifically. First we got to actually do it. But I don't necessarily think McCarthy regressed, he learned some things and stayed mature and strong throughout the season. That said he still wasn't awful. Yes he struggled like heck out of the pen but BA flat out stunk. However I love BA's attitude and can't believe the Sox don't like it either.
  11. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 10:06 AM) Well, if that's the case, we better not be seeing some crappy stopgap solution. I don't expect that. I would not be pleased if that were the case.
  12. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 10:02 AM) I'm pretty sure we got to that point because of chemistry, pitching and defense as well as hitting. No doubt, Brian sucked at the plate for the majority of the year, but it seems strange that we'd change our modus operandi after something got us to point B. I don't mean keeping the same personnel, but the same way of getting things done. This years third place finish was a total team effort, that's for sure. I think he's referring to the fact that we need to have a ton of cheap players around. If the post-world series team wants to spend 115-120 million than they can do so without as much reliance on the farm system (notice I don't say without any because you still need to have talent to use in trades or to ocassionally bring up). However I still think this team could make other moves and decide Anderson isn't the guy. Right now I think its 80/20 that Anderson won't be the starting CFer (if not higher). I think its about 40/60 as to whether he's even in the org next year.
  13. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 09:55 AM) He can be Aaron Rowand, though, which I believe many people would be fine with. On a side note, 20 pounds in two weeks...jesus. I don't think thats all that likely. He's have to make serious adjustments to get to that. I laughed last year when everyone said he'd do better than Aaron offensively. Aaron had his flaws at the plate but he's a superior offensive player to Anderson (at this point in time). Defensively Anderson was damn good but Rowand is still top notch as well and if we had Rowand he would have been out there (had he stayed healthy). I'm not saying we shouldn't have traded Rowand though, so don't put me in that category. But I laugh at all this blind optimism about Anderson.
  14. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 09:56 AM) It ought to be interesting to see how stocks react to this election. I would be willing to bet if the Dems win both houses of Congress, we have seen the highs in stocks for a while. I have absolutely no doubt about that. In fact if things are looking real bad in the polls you may see things start early with a losing day on Monday (in the market). I have such strong beliefs against the economic principles of the democratic party that I'll be sickened if they take control. My only hope is if they do, that in 2 years somehow the Repubs can re-organize and find a way to get back in (but regardless they will need to somehow win the presidency cause that would be HUUGE). And obviously I'm more extreme than some people on this issue but right now I think the democratic party has gotten so far left its absolutely mind-boggling and to me frightening.
  15. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 07:54 AM) Rex, you think that a Democratic Congress WANTS to work with the President? No personal offense, here... but what the f*** planet are you on? Look at the constant negativity and personal crap that's spewed every day from the Democrats... and they want to work with this president? Come on. All they do is railroad and say this nad that and yet for the past 6 years they have not once ever came up with any legit ideas. They just seem to say things will magically be better if you elect the democrats. I want to know how things would magically be better (personally speaking things are going peachy on my end) and I feel a whole hell of a lot safer with the GOP in charge as opposed to the democratic party (especially considering who some of the big power guys are on the democratic side). Plus I completely side with the GOP on how to handle businesses. Now if only we could keep the GOP in power and hammer out this tort reform bulls***. Nothing would be greater to the US economy than finding a way to rid the economy with all these ridiculous frivilous lawsuits that cost billions of dollars. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 08:04 AM) And it doesn't flow both ways? I never said that a republican house/senate would work well with a democratic president? My goal of having a repub house/senate would be exactly what the democrats goal would be to try and prevent the president from doing what they sought as being "bad" for the country. THe only difference is GOP has there view of whats good/bad and Democrats have there view.
  16. I hope the GOP pubs the hell out of this. Its some good news that could maybe help them retain control of at least one of the house/senate. :prays
  17. Ya, I don't get it. Why couldn't they have moved in immediately?
  18. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 2, 2006 -> 11:58 PM) Louisville is in for a battle a week from now. Next Thursday, at Rutgers. Rutgers is undefeated, it's a night road game, the crowd will be wild, and Ray Rice and Brian Leonard will do bad things to that Louisville run defense. That one could go either way. Plus they also have Pitt left on the schedule and they are decent. It should be another damn good Thursday night game in a week when Rutgers/Ville square off.
  19. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 08:33 AM) Yes they should, because he can play 3B, 2B, the corner outfield spots and is a LHB. Ozzie players that give him flexibility (see: Cintron, Ozuna, even Gload). The thing is we didn't play him at 3B or 2B. We now have Sweeney and Josh Fields who could potentially grab that spot. Plus we are going to have a new everyday CFer so I think Cintron is more valuable because he can play 3B, SS, and 2B plus we have Pablo who is capable of the same plus play some pathetic OF.
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 05:40 AM) Well that's it. There is something going on with Anderson in the clubhouse that we haven't been told yet. Either #1, he's lazy, or #2, he's a complete jackass and pissed off his whole team, or #3 a (the D-angelo Jimenez as I like to call it) combination of both I mean think about it, the Sox were willing to put a guy out there all of the time who self-admitedly could not play CF over Brian. I have no doubts something extra is going on there... Kenny likes him but the vibe I continued to get was that Ozzie wasn't going to use him nor is he a big fan. I can't necessarily blame him cause he has one of the most dreadful swings/approaches in all of baseball. I've said a lot this year that I expect us to have a new CF and almost every one of my off-season lineups has not included Anderson (unless we seriously upgrade SS and LF with speed) because the writing seems to be on the wall. I expect him to be dealt along with one of our pitchers in a deal that helps get us a potential young star. Maybe a Michael Young. I could also see a Brian Anderson for Chone Figgins deal. The Angels drasticaly want to upgrade there defense in CF and Anderson could be that guy, but only if they are able to get offense elsewhere (Ramirez and maybe someone else). But Anderson would be an asset considering how crappy Vladdy/Anderson are in LF/RF. QUOTE(Scwible @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 08:40 AM) I'm with SS as well. Something has to be going on in the organization about BA. Mack says he isn't the best center fielder but yet they keep trotting him out there as BA sits on the bench, with no time to improve at anything. It was because of the absolute lack of productive outs. Ozzie was dumb and BA should have been playing more but you can go around and talk to any scout and they'll tell you if BA doens't make serious adjustments he'll never hit in this league (the tools are there, but he has some serious adjustments to make to his swing). I was shocked his swing worked in AA and AAA because I think a lot of scouts were expecting a hiccup there and than he'd be able to make adjustments a couple years ago, but it kept working and now he will have to make them at the major league level. I do not buy into the BA will be a superstar though. But I do think with hard work he can be one of the better all around CF's in the game (solid avg, solid pop...terrific defense).
  21. The Ville beats WVU. What a great game.
  22. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Nov 2, 2006 -> 04:52 PM) good call - staying in Phoenix is always nice. I really like games at the Giants park. Ya, I probably won't make the drive to Tuscon this year. I think they play the Angels and Giants (both are pretty nice facilities, plus I think the Angels facelift will be completed this year) and than I'll probably see 2 non-Sox games (I also just like seeing other teams play and the different facilities). Its always one of the things I really look forward to. The whole Phoenix area is real nice, the weather is usually good, and on top of things you get to see baseball during the day and take advantage of a nice city at night. And ya, the Giants facility is awesome. Its been a while since I was there and I'm going to have to remember to get my tickets relatively early cause Giants spring games usually sell out fast (since its in Scottsdale and is a happening stadium to go to).
  23. I'm there the very last weekend of the spring training season (sat/sun/mon/tues). Already booked my PTO. I'll also be taking opening day off (hells ya...after 3 months of working 55 hr's per minimum I figure I deserve a break).
  24. Great game tonight....one of the unbeatens will fall.
  25. Grudz had a pretty darn good year. I don't know if he was the very best but he's pretty damn solid. I got no problem with that.
