Great stuff. It'll be interesting to see how these guys actually develop because you'll see rankings like this vary a bit once baseball play starts in a long while.

I care more about our team doing what we needed to do and I think ab's and innings from guys that haven't already shown what they have is more important than seeing Ab's/innings from guys who we've seen for the entire season (or in many instances, multiple seasons). Plus I'll be rooting for the Twins in the playoffs. They are a fun team to watch that plays the game right.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Oct 1, 2006 -> 04:12 PM) I thought Musburger was siding with Iowa, but that's two differentt persepctives. But hey, my team beat Northern Iowa by one, so I'll go chew on that. Both are teams are pretty weak. Iowa would be a lot better if they had the Tate of last year playing but right now you can just tell he's not 100% and its really effecting him. -
QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Oct 1, 2006 -> 10:41 AM) I love how Baltimore/SD is going on right now, but I'm stuck with Miami/Houston. Stupid Florida team. Haha, the announcers were just sucking on Michael Vick's dick and then he goes and throws an 97 yard INT for a td. New England Cincy but no, I get Raiders f***ing Browns. WOW, RIDICULOUS. That Charger game was good as was the Panther/Saint game. But either way I was sleeping through most of the games, can't wait till the Bears game tonight though.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Oct 1, 2006 -> 11:43 AM) Not a good weekend for Iowa fans, sorry Jason. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2606247 f***. Both are gonna play huge roles for the Hawks this season. I know the staff is insanely high on Tyler Smith (part of a pretty good Iowa recruiting class). Not that I'm shocked about the fb team losing, but this type of stuff always surprises me since our real only major problem has been that prick Pierre Pierce and Alfords mishandling of that whole fiasco. -
Sweet stuff, hope you and Jim are having a blast

Everyone has always known Sweeney has a far greater upside. The only question is whether Sweeney is good enough to be an everyday CFer and whether he'll eventually develop some power to go with a sweet swing. As far as BA goes, I remember commenting on how lost his swing was, but at the same time he has a lot of raw ability and he's fully capable of being a solid offensive player and when you combine that with his defense you have a pretty nice looking prospect/player.

I can't believe that Illinois beat Stanton and the Spartans. What a joke the Spartans are. They are a team with top 20 talent year in year out that fails to win to win games they should and blows games they should win (see ND game). Huge game tonight for the Hawkeyes. I don't think they'll be able to do it, based on what I'd consider less than stellar football in pretty much every game we played (namely because we were playing against lesser competition with the exception of ISU and we only played half of a good game against the Clones). Right now I think Iowa is one of the more over-rated teams in the country based on the way they've played this year, but they could prove me wrong and I sure hope they do. Lets go Hawkeyes!!!! -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 26, 2006 -> 10:41 AM) FYI if you register and don't see an approval coming through PM someone like me kalapse or jason about it. We have had awful spam problems at some of the sites, and the registry slows that done a bunch. Its a formality for you guys to get over there, and a protection against the damned spammers. BTW, the site is really picking up steam as the season is moving along. Thanks for spreading the word, and jumping on board the bandwagon For the short term, PM Kalapse instead of me. I have minimal internet access and have probably made a whopping 5 posts on the web over the past 2 weeks. I also have zero email access to my main account so if people are wondering why they haven't gotten a response to some email, thats probably the reason why. I'll check my email for the first time Friday, but if I were to guess I'll have about 500 emails to go through os it could take me a good long while.

Sandy comes through after a single by Uribe and a double by Anderson and its 4-1.

Now my Irish are getting absolutely destroyed, late TD in the first half to bring it to within 20 but man ND looks ugly having early turnovers really really hurt them. That took them out of there game plan and Michigan has totally taken advtange of them and than also had Henne completely destroy em. Well Henne and Manningham. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 01:41 PM) I honestly don't care which pitcher we trade in the offseason as long as it's not McCarthy...as long as we get the right price back for him. Freddy Garcia in the rotation and a top-15 prospect or two in our organization >> Freddy Garcia traded and a single top 75 prospect. We need to get younger and cheaper in that starting rotation. McCarthy should be in it, even if he does wind up struggling. And we need to get some more talent on the way up, and one of those pitchers can do that. I'm to the point that if we get good value I have absolutely no problem moving Brandon.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 02:12 PM) The funny thing is Konerko actually has more Ks than Thome in close and late situations (20 SO/18 SO) and Thome has 2 more home runs in the same situations (3 HR/5 HR). Not to mention K:BB for the 2 of them which is completely lopsided, Konerko: 20:9, Thome: 18:20. Of course when discussing the 2 people often say "f*** the stats" or "I'll believe what I see". Which makes discussion on the topic all but impossible. Thats because I think stats are over-rated in tons of situations. But thats a whole other debate.
-
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 02:04 PM) Actually not really on the Konerko love. Casual fans yes, but fans that know there s*** im not really sure. IMO Kong gets a bad rap at time with some here. He is slow as s***, deal with it. I have no problem with our .300, 30 HR, +100 RBI man. Take him for what he is. A power hitter in the middle of the lineup. Except people seem to forget he's way more than just a power hitter. He's also one of the best defensive first baseman in the game.
-
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 02:00 PM) What? Paul Konerko is better than Thome. Sorry, I don't care what anyone else wants to tell me, but I'll take Paulie up in the crunch over Thome because Paulie's approach is superior. I know some people think Paulie is this dead pull hitter, but he's not. I'd love if Paulie had Thome's eye, but aside from that I'll take Paulie's better all around game. If Paulie had just a bit more speed, wow would his numbers be good cause he'd probably have 10-15 more doubles. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 02:01 PM) You do not notice the amount of Thome hate in contrast to the amount of never dying PK love? No, every game thread I'm in I see people b****ing like crazy at Paulie and I laugh cause he's one of our best all around hitters.
-
QUOTE(mr_genius @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 11:55 PM) who do think would replace Thome's offensive numbers? are you ready to give up on this team for next year and look to the future? i'm not. what exactly do you think Thome would bring? remember his salary and age. I don't really care to be honest. I want pitching, f*** the offense, we still are an above avg offense without Jim Thome. Sorry, but thats the reality, especially if we can find a new leadoff hitter and get Uribe and Anderson to develop a bit (well Uribe back towards his career norms and Anderson should improve). Plus I think Thome is one of the most overrated offensive players in baseball. Sorry, I don't care what the hell the stats say, my eye tells me he has been incredibly over-rated for about half of the season. Although I'd be the first to admit, part of the problem has been the 1 and 2 spots of the lineup which have been f***ing brutal and we all know my thoughts of Pods.

Yes, tie game. Iowa is looking awful defensively but offensively Tate looks like he's getting on a roll. -

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 12, 2006 -> 02:55 PM) Starters only numbers are very easy to obtain. Go to MLB.com standings page and click the vs. LHP option. We've had 5 more games against LH starters than any other team in baseball. (Minny is second) I assume that stems from the fact that our division has Minny (Johan and Liriano), Cleveland (Lee and Sabathia), Detroit (Rogers, Robertson), and than KC (Odalis Perez, Mark Redman). -
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 09:43 AM) So when are those promotional guys from freehookersandbooze.com going to call back and give us some kind of deal like this? QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 09:48 AM) Hmmm, tempting. How long do we have to decide? LOL! You get the hookers, I'll take the booze. Or you might need the alcohol to disinifect the hookers. The expiration date isn't near, so there is definately time to think about it. I'm going to sign up for it sometime this week to see how it works. I've heard it works pretty sweet though from one of my good buddies. Once I do it, it will be the first time I've played online for money. I've played online before, but usually leave the money element out of the equation.

I'd be shocked if they actually showed a double header. Considering where you are, my guess would be that you'd get the earlier game. I'm pretty sure I'm getting the Sox game because I'm on the left coast and it would be of interest to Angel fans, but who knows.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 07:05 AM) YA READY GAGE? Yep, offensively you guys look good. Than again, I think you guys are one of the better offensive teams in the catching (at least in the passing game) so I've been puzzled as to how you haven't been able to do better. I'm assuming thats because your defense has seriously struggled against the pass, but thus far Tate hasn't made the finishing plays that could have lead to us getting TD's instead of settling for a FG. Oh and how bad do the announcers suck? -
I'm sure everyone here has heard of Party Poker. I have several friends who use, or have used partypoker.net in the past to play poker on. Several days ago, I was contacted by PartyForFree.net asking if they could post on Soxtalk about their company. PartyForFree.Net has made arrangements with Party Poker to provide NEW players from Soxtalk with a free starting bankroll of $75. They assure me there is no deposit or credit card information required and that it really is a 100% risk-free promotion. I'm also told that PartyForFree.Net will deposit $50 into your Party Poker account to get you started, and then Party Poker will give you an additional $25 after you play 500 hands. If you win, yay for you! If you lose, it's on them and you lose nothing yourself. I told them I'd post this myself and link to it using http://www.partyforfree.net/soxtalk This is NOT a referral URL. I don't get any money for each of you that sign up. It is however, a URL that increments a counter somewhere so they know how many people came through Soxtalk. For your information, this is an advertisement of sorts -- one that pays for this server. Discussion welcome. If you have questions, ask.

QUOTE(Sonik22 @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 06:42 PM) I'm an Ohio State fan but for some reason i hate Iowa more than Michigan. Please pull this one off for me Cyclones! Go Hawkeyes. I love the job Ferentz has done for my Hawkeyes, now lets see if he can get us past ISU for about the 2nd time in his tenure.
