QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 07:28 PM) Well, the way I read/figure it, Ozzie has for some reason decided that Brian must sit at least 1 out of every 3 days and Mack must play CF that day. This costs us, roughly, 1 out of every 3 games, at least indirectly, as with today. In other words, the only way Ozzie will stop this is to remove one part of his calculation; if Brian is not there, Ozzie can not bench Brian. Therefore, if Brian were out of the way, and another CF option were there, perhaps the chain in Ozzie's head that requires Mack in CF 1 out of every 3 games might be broken. Yeah, it's stupid. But it's no where near as stupid as playing Mack in CF. I've told myself that same rational on a few ocassions already. I never thought too highly of BA when he was coming through the system but thats all changed since he joined the club. I really think he's the real deal and with all the progress he's making I have no idea why we continue to play a worthless defensive CF out there a few games a week. I understand sitting BA against tough righties, but Bruce Chen (a sucky lefty)??? I don't follow, especially when our pitching has sucked horribly and we need to do all we can to not give up runs because its a lot better to minimize other teams runs than to have to score 10 to win.

Ya, I can't eat more than two bites of that stuff...its so damn sweet. I prefer soft serve though and its wierd for me not to like ice cream (Cold Stone) cause I love ice cream and yogurt.

Do we have any WWE fans here?
Chisoxfn replied to whitesoxownyou's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I watched back in the Stone Cold days when I was in high school and was also a fan of WCW for a while. But I haven't watched the stuff in a long long time, although I will stop the channell if I see it on but I no longer recognize a lot of the guys. -
Oh man that would be golden. I can't sing to save my life so I think I'd choose I'm a little teapot because it would get a ton of laughs

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 06:02 PM) Jason, I'd thought of it a while ago but need to credit Bruce Levine for bringing it up today. In order for this to work, they need an arm to be the long/swingman ... more effective than a 22 yr. old Brandon McCarthy, who needs to get his rhythm. All young pitchers do. So it's incumbent on KW to acquire an arm who can be better in that role than Brandon. And KW may not find a deal to his liking because as we've all commented, the price for mediocrity is very high on this trade market. Ya, the question is do they like Tracey enough to consider bringing him up as the long man (with MacDougall here, the club could probably swing things where Tracey is only in long man roles which usually aren't key to a club's success) while Brandon goes down. I say that because I don't see the price of a reliever as being very affordable so unelss there is some guy that doesn't have much trade value who Kenny likes that he can bring in. I know the Yanks are talking about Roberto Hernandez, but I wouldn't be a major proponent of that since he hasn't been as good as of late.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 05:37 PM) The White Sox need innings tomorrow, they will rely on Contreras. Very interesting that Guillen is sticking to his guns re: his position players. He likes the 14 he's got. If he wants to stick with that, then that means they might tweak the pitching staff. That means either a DL stint for somebody or a guy gets sent down. If not, then they think they have all the necessary pieces. Personally I think they need some help. Vazquez's problems not to be understated, but McCarthy had a perfect chance to show he could eat up innings yesterday. He didn't. He got cuffed around. What does that tell you ... he is not in a rhythm. Therefore get him into a rhythm. Let him show he can dominate AAA hitters this year (last yr. doesn't count, "this is 2006" as SoxTalk says). If he is lights out, then it's bad news and so sorry for whatever starter is stinking up the joint at the time. Meanwhile, for this to work ... they need another arm. Either via trade or via someone from the system coming up and being reasonably effective. Sean Tracey isn't showing it, and Montero hasn't been great either. It's trade time. Wow, interesting idea, moving Bmac down and getting him ready for the rotation in the minors. I hadnt thought about it, but it would be a way for the team to motivate its current 5 starters while getting Brandon ready to hopefully do his thing. I think he needs innings and starts to get stuff together and get himself into a legit rhythm. He's been solid out of the pen, but he has not looked as sharp as he did last year at any piont this year and I think it stems from him being in the pen.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 05:41 PM) At this point, I'm still really scared to stand pat. This team just does not look like a championship team. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like one because it can't pitch, and the only guy out there who can help with that would be a terrible acquisition (Zito). We can't go out and acquire a new pitching staff, either the starters turn it around and we do good or they don't and some changes will be made.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 04:07 PM) I'll actually be surprised if we don't make another trade for a reliever, especially after what happened this wknd. I think we have the arms here so unless we are going to go out and swap starters with someone I really don't see us doing anything.

Hey I am back on Soxtalk, and got a question...
Chisoxfn replied to whitesoxownyou's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Personally speaking, I wouldn't deal Cotts for Gonzalez. I realize Cotts is in a funk right now but this is a guy that the club has control of for a few more years who has a real sneaky fastball and is really pretty much unhittable when on (just look at last year). He's been good for most of this year but its evident he needs to work a bit more on developing some secondary pitches and if that all goes well he'll be back to being one of the premiere relievers in baseball. -
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 05:38 PM) How is it better than the Angels? We'd have the worst LF and CF defensively in baseball if Mack's in CF. I also guess I view Dye's defense differently than you. I'm not sure if he's hurt, but he seems extremely slow out there in the last 30-40 games. Vlad sucks on defense, but at least teams respect his arm and don't always try to take the extra base on him. Doesn't Juan Rivera have a terrific arm? You see the Angels more than I do though, so I respect your opinion. Figgins is worse than Mack and when Erstad was out there he was also worse than Mack (Ersty isn't even a shell of what he once was in CF) while Vladdy is as bad as it gets. Rivera plays some left, but he's also in CF a lot and GA still plays a good deal of left field and the Angels management has been quoted that he'll likely go back to playing there if they get a DH (which is what the plan is) and Anderson is right there with Dunn as the worse defensive left fielder (those two guys are the only two worse than Pods with Manny ranking just ahead of Pods). So: Dye >>> Vladdy (who is horrid) Mack >>> Figgins or Rivera (I know its funny to say cause Figgy is really fast but he gets terrible jumps; not necessarily his fault since he isn't an everyday CFer) Juan Rivera >>> Pods >>> GA

I think we are done or are going to make a total shocker of a move (95% that its done though).
-
Didn't see a thread on this, so cheers to the Sox for scoring enough runs to win this thing. It wasn't pretty, but it is our first post-ASB winning streak
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 04:32 PM) In games that Anderson's on the bench, we have the worst outfield defense in baseball. Even with Anderson in the field, we have the worst throwing defense in baseball. Our LF should be a DH in A ball. Your nuts, our outfield defense is still >>> the Angels every day of the week and twice on Sundays (w/Mack). With Anderson its good (Dye is average to above avg, BA is above avg, Pods is one of the worse in the game).

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 06:08 AM) I wouldnt give up any of those players alone for Soriano... well maybe Lacky but none of the others. Huh, Lackey may be the best non Twins pitcher in the AL. Why in the hell would you trade that for Soriano????
-
QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 04:50 PM) Jake Peavy would fit in well with this group. Another pitcher above his career numbers. I can see it now, "this guy just needs to pitch up to his potential and we'll be fine." I think in Peavy's case he's not 100%. When on I take Peavy in a heart beat though and I wouldn't be opposed to trying to get him while his value is down. However, the Pads are going to be counting on him to improve if they are going to make any noise in the playoffs (if they hold there lead).

It may not have been pretty, but we needed a win for the confidence and we have our first post-ASB winning streak.

QUOTE(Jake @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 11:21 PM) After looking at Rogo's performance tonight I wonder why there isn't much trade interest in him. I know most would like more HRs out their first baseman, but he does possess power and hits for a lot of 2 baggers and can be a speed threat on the bases as well. Traditionally he usually maintains a somewhat high average as well. (Even though he really doesn't look like he would ever steal a bag with that physique, he sure does it.) People just don't trade for first baseman without power. You have guys like Sean Casey or Mark Grace but those are usually few and far between. ROgo is a solid hitter with gap power, who is solid defensively and has good speed. However, I think Ross Gload is better than Rogo, obviously ROgo is younger, but in terms of tools they aren't very far off with the exception that Gload has a bit more power and can hit for even more so of an average (but I think really highly off Ross).
-
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 11:18 AM) so skipping low A altogether? I still dont understand what the point of sending him to rookie ball was. Probably just to get him acclimated really quickly. They may have had something they wanted him to work on before going up a level or they may have figured he had a break between the last time he pitched in a game so give him a few starts at a lower level (the lower levels are less about winning than someone like Winston Salem who would be pissed if we forced a guy into there rotation that was gonna get hit his first few starts as he wasn't ready) before finally moving him up. I don't see the harm in it.

This is legit. He pulled his hamstring performing an endurance test. Its been widely reported but luckily the injury isn't incredibly serious. Of course Hammy's can be the type of thing that are lingering. I've seen him listed anywhere from day to day to missing 7-10.

2006 White Sox Catch-All Thread
Chisoxfn replied to greasywheels121's topic in 2006 Season in Review
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 09:28 PM) I thought we have an option for Gooch in 2007. Ya, we will have him next year. The question is whether he had a clause in his contract that would make him exempt from arbitration (ie the club would have to release him, making him an unrestricted FA; a similar thing was in Matsui's contract and thats why the Yanks had to give him an extension). Basically if Iguchi's contract has that clause, we will have a short window to exclusively negotiate with him after 07, and than at one point or another (before the deadline to file for FA I guess) Iguchi would be released and than the Sox would no longer have the exclusive window as he'd be an unrestricted FA. I did a lousy job explaining that, but hopefully it makes some sense. -
QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 07:59 PM) I don't think we could compete with the Angels offer; Santana is better than McCarthy, and I wouldn't give up McCarthy for Tejada so I don't understand what the Angels are thinking there. Hopefully Santana wasn't really offered (see McCarthy to Nationals talk earlier in the week) and the Sox could interest Baltimore in a lesser package. The Astros offer is garbage, imo. Damaged goods (Lidge) or crappy players (Everett). They might all be major leaguers, but I'd rather take my chances with some high ceiling prospects. I don't consider Lidge damaged goods. I do think he needs a cahnge of scenery but the stuff is still there. But in general I think the Astros need to pull the trigger on the proposed deal.

If I could root for anything in this series it would be for the two teams to completely beat each other up, go into each teams pen early and often and really have both left realing following the series. I really don't care what the results are, but I think I already said that once. I care most about the Sox taking care of business and if we don't I'll be rooting for the Twins and Tigers to do there business in the playoffs (unless the Angels are in it).

2006 White Sox Catch-All Thread
Chisoxfn replied to greasywheels121's topic in 2006 Season in Review
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 07:33 PM) I put this together so none of you EVER have an excuse for fishing up someone's contract status . . . White Sox Contract Progression. Let me know if you see any mistakes. I'll get this up on the site on Sunday if you don't mind. I'll also link it on the top of the forums. -
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 07:26 PM) Looking at the deals being discussed, I'm not so sure that McCarthy and Uribe would be enough. McCarthy doesn't have the same value as E. Santana. Oh yeah....I was kinda hoping KW would take a shot at him, but I'm sure the price is too high. I'm not sure if he has the same value, but I'm also not exactly sure that offer is on the table. If it is the O's should pull the trigger. I also don't think there is a drastic difference between Brandon and Santana (I'd have really said that entering the year) although I'd be the first to admit you got to love Santana's arm and stuff. However, Brandon is real poised and darn good too (imo). But I'm saying thats what it would take for me to make that move and if they wanted another prospect I wouldn't have a problem with that as long as we aren't talking a darn good one (Tracey is as far as I'd go and this again assumes we get Cabrerra back). Otherwise I don't think its smart to move a young starter thats going to be in our rotation next year and hopefully for a long time.
