  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 07:23 PM) If you're going to trade McCarthy, Tejada's one of the few guys who I would consider it. Rumors that Lidge would be in the trade. That would make things a little better, but I can't see having both Lidge and Ray in the same bullpen considering how good Ray is. It would make no sense since Lidge is going to be making some good money. Unless of course the Orioles just wanted to get Lidge in there, try and straighten him out down the stretch and than turn him over to another team for a few top prospects in the off-season. In that case I could buy the move. So are we talking Ensberg, Everett, and Lidge (plus a prospect) thats solid. However, I think Ensberg is over-rated (great power, little average) while Everett is a strong defensive player not a good hitter (not a guy I'd get rid of though cause I think he fits nicely in the bottom part of the order). So if I'm the O's and I pull htat deal, I would know that the Angels have interest in Ensberg and would see if I could turn Ensberg into Aybar and than hope in time I could spin Lidge into some quality spects as well. But Santana and Aybar...thats damn good.
  2. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 07:24 PM) Would Miggy be willing to play 3rd base for the Angels, or would Cabrera move over to 3rd base for him? Don't forget they've got Brandon Wood and the likes of McPherson as well. Out here it appears the plan would be for Tejada to play 3rd, but obviously talks have not gotten to the point where the Angels have asked him or his agent whether he'd accept that type of move. They like the idea of Tejada because he's signed for 3 more years at a reasonable price.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 07:23 PM) If you're going to trade McCarthy, Tejada's one of the few guys who I would consider it. Rumors that Lidge would be in the trade. If I dealt McCarthy I want at least one pitcher coming back. So I'd do it if we moved Uribe and McCarthy and got Cabrera back. Otherwise no deal.
  4. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 07:22 PM) Farmer said tonight that they expect him to be moved in Baltimore. If I'm the Orioles I'm jumping all over the Angels' offer, that's incredibly solid. Santana would be a very quality starter for them for years to come and they add a major middle infield spect in Aybar to eventually replace Miggy, if not this year. Miggy just isn't worth McCarthy. Farmer said tonight that they expect him to be moved in Baltimore. IMO The Angels offer >>> Ensberg, Everett and a pitching prospect. Santana is more proven than any prospect and Aybar is a heck of a prospect in his own right. If I'm the Angels, I'm giving up two more good prospects as opposed to Santana because I don't think they can afford to give him up.
  5. If I were the Angels I'd see if I could include Saunders in that offer and get back Cabrerra and let Bud Black work with him. I can't see any deal that helps the Angels in which they give up Santana. Santana has a real live arm, is pitching well for them, and with Colon down you can't afford to lose two guys from your rotation and replace them with youngsters (Saunders would come in, but I don't know who else would). Aybar is a darn good prospect but the Angels got a dearth of middle infielders and can definately afford to move him. I think if I'm LAA, with those offers, I get a deal done involving Aybar and a lesser prospect for SOriano and take my chances on resigning him.
  6. Thats some good stuff. I'm not a fan of baseball prospectus but Carroll has a lot of sources and just did a real nice job summing up what is going on. I assume he's going to be updating that throughout the days till the deadline passes so I'll be checking up on that site every once in a while. Thats a great deal the Astros may make for Tejada. Everett and Ensberg are nice, but Tejada is a star and if it costs you one darn good prospect and two decent players for a star you do it, imo. The offer they asked the Angels for was much more ridiculous, but I wouldn't be shocked if the Angels made a last second offer that included some damn good prospects. I would have said someone like Suanders could really influence the O's but with Colon going down Saunders goes off the market as being a final trade chip (along with one or two more bonafide top notch prospects).
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 07:12 PM) As someone who's long said he should be replaced on the roster, I want to give him credit for the huge hit tonight. I actually like Gload's skills....but he just doesn't fit what this team needs as a 25th man. With the September call-ups fast approaching, his role on the team will be better. He's one of the few guys on the team who can spray the ball around the field from line to line. I completely agree. I think his value is best suited on an NL team and I have long said If I ran a team he's the type of guy I think you could pick up on the cheap and get 250-350 quality at bats from in a real versatile way.
  8. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 07:11 PM) I do believe that to be true. Yep, I'll 3rd that. I'm 99% sure that it was in Baltimore.
  9. QUOTE(S720 @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 07:08 PM) And if Ozuna was thrown out, people will scream for Ozzie's ass - How stupid can you be to have Ozuna steal a base when Thome or Konerko is coming up? As a non stat guy, I say get the guy to 2nd so your big hitter can deliver a single (considering were in a major slump). But luckily Ross came through and that could be the spark that gets this team back on track. All that said, we should still be willing to call hit and runs and stolen bases because it will keep the team fresh and make sure the opposition is focused defensively.
  10. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 07:08 PM) Our bullpen is so fishing stacked right now. It's awesome If they execute and stay healthy it will be a real nice thing to have for a few years. The rotation can get bailed out at times by that pen and hopefully we'll see the rotation really put things together. As much as I slammed Freddy tonight he wasn't awful and it was his second straight acceptable start which is nice.
  11. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 07:07 PM) You know, I like Gload. Always have. I wouldn't cry if he got cut or replaced on the team, but he always gives it his all. I've been a Gload guy for a few years now and I just wish there was a way for him to play more, but its so tough to find any spots for him. He's just a good fundemental hitter and the players like him in the clubhouse. I remember this spring when he made a great catch in Milwaulkee's facility in Maryville and was helped off the field only to be back the following day after what looked like a horrible injury. This was in the midst of all the speculation of whether he'd make the club or not. That next game was a game against the Royals and he was in the game and word came out that the Sox had just traded for Thornton, which essentially assured Ross a roster spot.
  12. I also want to give Ozz credit for bringing in two lefties and pulling the right strings late in this game. Without Pods and Mack we don't have Gload up in that situation.
  13. Man it was gut wrenching and I think most of us were a bit exhausted from the Sox failure to execute for a good chunk of the game (whether it was an error that lead to a run or us not getting clutch hits) but Gload made that go away temporarily and at least helps right the ship for a night with a huge grand slam and than a nice job at first to get his foot back on the bag after a high Uribe throw to record the final out. MacDougal pitched good in his stint, Thornton was nasty and Jenks was as well while Garcia at least kept the club in it and wasn't quite as bad as his numbers indictated (his changeup is becoming his best pitch). We needed it and hopefully Jon can go out tomorrow and turn this into a winning streak
  14. SOX WIN SOX WIN Man does that feel good to type. Uribe throws it high but Gload just gets his foot back on the bag to make the out.
  15. Now Bobby needs to do his job cause this isn't over yet.
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 06:52 PM) I know I'm negative by nature, but was I the only one worried Terrero would rob that? I saw him running and I was just thinking drop drop drop drop (thinking double) than it cleared the fence and I went nuts. I loved the approach, works 3-0 count and he swings at ball 4 to hit the grand slam but he didn't try to pull it or anything.
  17. Yes, I knew there was a reason I had a man crush on Gloadie GLOAD!!!! ROSS fishing GLOAD
  18. Well with PK down its going to be up to Gloadie the Roadie right here. Come on Ross
  19. That was a tough pitch to bunt but Guchi got the job done.
  20. Having Pods face Ray is the right move. Tough righty coming in so have the lefty up.
  21. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 06:38 PM) I think its the pitching. Last year they won a lot of low scoring games. It really is what separated 2005 from recent seasons. It wasn't that the offense was more consistent, it was that they were able to win a lot more often when they didn't score much. I agree and I always laughed at people who said it was the offensive changes that made the difference. It was more so the pitching staff, however, last years offense was better than this years when it came to executing and getting the guaranteed runs (I'm talking about getting a leadoff double home, getting a guy in from 3rd base with less than 2 outs; you can't just be swinging for the fences in those istuations and we've had a few guys that have been doing exactly that as of late).
  22. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 06:36 PM) And if the starter has around 100 pitches and are doing ok it probably shows they know how to adjust to the hitters and/or have the ability to get them out. What it comes down to is this, how is the pitcher throwing, does he have control and command? Is he making the proper adjustments to hitters? When they sit on fastballs in certain counts, are they able to throw an offspeed pitch for strikes? My point is, it's nowhere near as black and white as this board seems to think it is. But that's ok, to each their own. I think every situation calls for something different. You got to look at the starter and say does he still have it. Some starts a guy may have a lot of pitches but those pitches may not have been "high stress" pitches and you can see he's still got solid mechanics and some stamina left. Other times it may be really hot out or humid and you can see that he's tired earlier than he usually would be so you know you got to get him out sooner. I have no problem sticking with my starters, but at a few times this year you could see Ozzie had the philosphy if he gives up a hit he's gone and I think at that point its too late, the guy shouldn't be out there. Its one thing if were winning by a good chunk of runs, but its another if its a close game. If you dont' have faith in him throwing the inning why have him out there (in a starters case) unless its to have him face one batter cause he matches up well against him.
  23. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 06:34 PM) The White Sox have only won 5 games this season scoring 3 or less runs. I'm sure some of that has to do with our pitching not being very good, while other parts have to do with our lack of being able to find creative ways to score.
  24. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 06:28 PM) If there's nothing he can do, then what good is a manager? If there's nothing he can do, then apparently he didn't do anything last year either, and he deserves no credit for the Sox championship. Of course, in reality, there are things he can do. He did things last year that helped this team win. He's not being effective this season. I don't see him doing much at all. I see no fire, no urgency, no intensity from him. I don't see him even acting like this is unacceptable and it has to change immediately. We both totally agree on this line.
  25. QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 06:26 PM) So on the orioles brodcast they said that in the last whatever number of games were 14 of 84 with RISP. That comes out to be .16666666667 fishing TITS Ya and that wasn't counting tonights game in which we've once again lacked a hit with RISP (well I guess Ozuna hat a hit with RISP, but BA didn't come around to score on the single...he did score on Guchi's sac fly though).
