  1. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 14, 2006 -> 09:07 PM) HAS to be in the top 10 for most underrated. Dye never gets talked about, even by most Sox fans, and he has done huge things for this club. Right now he's having about as good of a season as any RFer in baseball. If he stays healthy I figure it will continue too. I love how when he's on how he hits missile line drives to all parts of the field. When he unloads it usually gets out of here in a hurry. He's one of my favorite players in baseball when you combine his offensive ability, attitude and all around defensive skills (plus arm, plus fielder and he used to have plus range). I also want to note one of my theories is looking more and more true. I've been hammering for a while for Ozzie to give Jenks a couple days to rest his arm (Jenks has been used an awful lot and the past couple outings are the reason his ERA has went up). Last year the same thing happened to Jenks and after some rest he came back and looked dynomite. Tonight he comes in and he's throwing gas and snapped off some of those nasty curves that made him famous last year (especially when he first came up). The hook he threw to end the game was AWESOME. Hopefully Ozzie will take note of this and ocassionally give Jenks 3 consecutive days rest from time to time (1 being an off-day and for 2 games use someone like Cotts or Politte to close; hell letting Cotts/Politte close gives them a bit of experience in case we need a backup option due to injury).
  2. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 14, 2006 -> 05:01 PM) Agreed 100% Disagree 100%. Logan hasn't been bad this year. I realize he's given up some inherited runs but often times he's put out after not pitching in 10 days...rust is to be expected. Once he gets lose in a game or finds his command hitters rarely square him up (ie hit him hard) and I think he's pretty solid. Lopez wouldn't pitch much at all up here either and he's proven over the long haul that he's a pretty piss poor major league pitcher. Logan made a serious adjustment at a relatively young age and gets really good life on his pitches now. I have zero problem holding Logan up here. If he fails after pitching on a consistent basis, than we can send him down, but thus far I see this as a semi success (a because we haven't need to use him much and b because he hasn't been awful in the games he's pitched). QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ May 14, 2006 -> 08:46 PM) Can anybody tell me how Fields' defense has been so far? Not so good, but he has played a lot better as of late. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 14, 2006 -> 09:03 PM) Look Flash, a team who doesn't have the history of relative success as us (i.e. better draft picks than us) and they have a s***ty system. Actually, I'd assume that the Pads were in a very similar position as the White Sox over the years. Aside from a couple years back when they were moving to Petco they have been a relatively competitive team year in and year out in the NL West. This is based of my assumptions and you guys could very well prove me wrong and that they had quite a few years with terrible seasons.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ May 14, 2006 -> 12:58 PM) We give way too much credit to some of our guys sometimes. In the 5th inning, Vazquez had no command of his fastball. Also, the pitch selection was brutal. You can't be putting 90 mph fastballs right down the plate to Batista. Throwing 4 straight curves in the same location to Hunter is just idiotic also. Vazquez is a good pitcher, but he didn't have a lot of crispness to his pitches last night. Lets not turn into Cubs fans, and think that something drastic has to be happening every time one of our pitchers gets hit hard. He may not have been crisp in the 5th inning, but he was rolling in the first four innings. I left for about 45 minutes as I played baseball at the park down the street and came back to see the final parts of the fifth inning (including the horrid non strikeout call). I think you can make a case for him eventually getting rattled. Sure he gave up some hits too and he didn't make pitches but he let things get to him. That happens from time to time.
  4. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 14, 2006 -> 08:57 PM) Reconstructed inning. Single out Single out Single -- Run out ---------- End of inning ------- Theoretical start of second inning. Double Double -- Run Single Single -- Run out out One of the deficiencies in the Earned run stat is it completely overlooks situations like this where the pitcher is REALLY REALLY bad. Thats fine, but after getting rattled a pitcher may pitch differently. Look at Kevin Millwood, he was so dominant last season because he got guys out when it mattered. Often times last year he'd give up hits to start an inning and than shut people down or vice versa. There is no way to assume had Buehrle gotten through that he'd have given up all those hits to the next batters. Thats the thing with stats, they assume a lot of things when you look into them very in depth. Its like assuming Pods (even if he didn't run) wouldn't help a 2 hole hitter when he's on base. A stat guy may say Pods isn't valuable. Someone that watches baseball may see him hit near .300 with a solid OBP and steal a lot of bases (although not always as sucessful as you'd like). They may deem that unnecessary. However, you also have important factors such as Iguchi (or whoever is hitting behind him when Pods is on base) seeing more fastballs (ie better pitches to drive) and therefor they should see there avg rise (of course we all know Iguchi will also give himself up from time to time). I say watch the game and the stats will make sense. You can use them as a way to evaluating whether a player is living up to his potential, but you can't use stats to tell you whether the team is winning or not (aside from the total score stat at the end of the game).
  5. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 14, 2006 -> 10:47 AM) Off the top of my head, this is incorrect. Without even looking at a replay of that inning, I vividly remember Morneau getting his single on an offspeed pitch on the outside corner (a changeup), and same goes for Torii Hunter. IT was either a changeup for FB Vazquez hit. Definately not a breaking ball. But I thought a bigger problem was Vazquez let the hits get to him and he was rattled by that and the bad call(s).
  6. Fixed it. It must be something with the way the logo changer works now that somehow removed a centering code.
  7. QUOTE(THEWOOD @ May 13, 2006 -> 10:01 AM) IS anyone else seeing everyingthing on this board centered? I'm not, but Heads could be messing with something. Is it still there?
  8. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 13, 2006 -> 01:21 AM) My mom has breast cancer. My parents have known for about a month but they didn't tell me cause they didn't want me to get freaked out with finals and s*** coming up. It was such a weird feeling when she told me, I didn't know what to do. Oh man, that totally sucks. My grandma got through breast cancer about 10 years ago. Cancer is a rough disease, but hopefully they caught it soon enough. Thoughts and prayers go out to your mom, you and the rest of your family
  9. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 12, 2006 -> 06:44 PM) They aren't towards year end I believe. On a separate note, wite and I had the greatest AIM chat ever.
  10. QUOTE(MnSoxFan @ May 12, 2006 -> 08:53 AM) Anyone ever hear what Sweeney's injury was? I've asked around and the org is being very tight lipped with it. I'll ask again though to see if I can get some more info on the situation.
  11. A few posts were edited from this thread.
  12. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 11, 2006 -> 07:19 PM) The forum. As soon as I get to the site, that pops up. I try to put my user name and password in, and it repeats the same thing. Thats weird. Your the first I know to have that problem. Try clearing your cache out and than doing it. It almost sounds more like the account was banned (well thats what a banned poster would see). Clear things out and see if that fixes things.

    I'm interested to see how Jeff Nelson does whenever he makes his debut.
  14. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 11, 2006 -> 07:07 PM) Uh, the site isn't working for me on Firefox. When I try to, it says: Sorry, an error occurred. If you are unsure on how to use a feature, or don't know why you got this error message, try looking through the help files for more information. The error returned was: Sorry, you are not permitted to use this board Was that on the chat? Or for the actual forum.
  15. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ May 11, 2006 -> 06:33 PM) I keep getting a message that I can't connect to the server. Anyone else find this? Any ideas? You need to be logged in to gain access.
  16. Gritty player and one of my all time fav Sox.
  17. QUOTE(The Critic @ May 11, 2006 -> 04:43 PM) Speaking of the SnR guys, they've really slowed their schedule, haven't they? (Sorry to threadjack Ian's birthday wishes, but f*** him anyway..... ) Ya, I haven't seen a post about a show in some time.
  18. QUOTE(The Critic @ May 11, 2006 -> 04:40 PM) Yeah, happy birthday, ya little bastard!!! (repeat until nauseous) I don't think you drink alcohol yet, do ya? If not, start tonight!!! I remember one time he did....it was quite the SNR show.
  19. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 11, 2006 -> 04:37 PM) Works Sweet, hopefully you guys like it.
  20. Alright, made some tweaks to the chat and I think I have the issue resolved. So now go test it out and tell me if it works alright.
  21. The person who said Jenks pitched himself into shape last year is correct. Jenks did have early struggles adjusting to the pen and getting in shape, although I think that was in large part because he missed pretty much all of the prior season due to a season ending injury. He may have been completely heatlhy to start last year, but he was not in pitching shape. This year he was healthy and overweight so that is one of the reason his velocity is down, but until very recently he had been pitching well in save opportunties (and just in general) but Ozzie has overused him and because Jenks isn't used to pitching 3-4 games in a row he tires. Late last season his velocity dropped and he got hit a bit, but than Ozzie gave him a few dyas off and he was back blowing fastballs by guys. I think he could really use a couple days to catch a breath and I hope Ozzie gives it to him. I am glad to see he's dropped some weight because if he stayed as fat as he was to start the year he would have definately blown his arm by season's end (the fat, muscle, buldge...whatever you want to call it was preventing him from having a more natural delivery).
  22. Happy Birthday Ian. Haven't seen ya around lately, but hopefully you have a great 22nd. I know Soxtalk has greatly appreciated all the graphics you've created over the years. So make sure you have a great Bday and while the Sox may not win on your bday, at least they won't lose either
  23. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 11, 2006 -> 04:28 PM) This is why we are BFF.
  24. Hey Jim Apparently they opted for Montero because they don't want to take Tracey out of the rotation. The initial reason they were leaning towards promoting Tracey was because they felt he could come up, start (get some experience) and than go back down without getting all jumbled. But instead Ozzie wants to use Bmac in the rotation (apparently he announced it immediately following the Sox game, but no one picked up on it right away) and because of that they figure its better to bring up a guy like Montero as opposed to potentially get Tracey into a rut. I still say I'd rather see Tracey, but since we are only looking at righties I guess Montero is the guy and since he has experience out of the pen (well at least more of it) he must have been looked at harder than a guy like Tim Redding (who has stunk at both levels, in at least some part due to arm injuries a few years back).
  25. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 11, 2006 -> 04:17 PM) Gage, can you get the Montero callup up as the main story on FS? Beat you to it, its up on both sites. Its odd, apparently this was a pretty last minute call up.
