Deal may mean bye-bye, Borchard
QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 09:40 AM) Exactly, Jason. I've always been supportive of Gload. He's a solid hitter and very good with the glove around firstbase. However, he doesn't fit the needs of this team as currently constructed. I also want to say if we are going to carry 3 1st baseman, I'd rather see us carry 3 catchers (not that we have a 3rd catcher thats capable) but it makes more sense than carrying 3 1st baseman (especially when all 3, even Gload are primarily first baseman). Having a guy like Borch that could be a defensive replacmenet anywhere in the outfield would be real nice.

Deal may mean bye-bye, Borchard
QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 09:33 AM) I can't go there. Sorry. I believe Borchard fits the needs of this team so much more than Gload. There is even and outside shot that it finally clicks with Joe, and if BA falters, JB can step in. Gload cannot do that because he can't play CF. I know I'm reaching, but I'm trying to consider various scenarios that can occur over the course of a season. I'm totally with you Yas. It makes no sense to me why Gload would be a front-runner. Gload can play multiple positions, but he's primarily a 1st baseman. This team has two first baseman (although I realize if one got hurt mid game, we wouldn't be able to switch Thome over unless we wanted the pitcher to hit). However, in a pinch Ozuna/Mack/Dye and others could play for a game. Than if the injury was serious we could promote Rogowski as the backup. However, Borchard can play all 3 outfield positions and he is good defensively (with a strong arm). Offensively Gload is the better hitter (average wise), but Borchard is a switch hitter who can provide some power from each side of the plate (he also had more big hits last season than Gload; in a very limited time to boot). If it were me in charge, the decision would be pretty easy...Borch would be breaking camp with the club. And this is coming from someone whose always supported Gload.

Forward Rates
I'm working on a project and I need to find the 3 month forward rate for the Japanese Yen (Yen/$) or ($/Yen). I've been able to find what it is today, however I need to find what it was on January 15th cause I'm using it as one of my ways to predict what the Taiwan Dollar's rate will be on April 15th (and the Taiwan dollar has no forwards, but there currency is highly correlated to that of the Japanese Yen so I can use that as a predictor). Does anyone have any clue where I can find it. I've had no luck finded a record of past 3 month forwards, only how much the forward is today.

Joshua Fields Forever...
QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 08:08 AM) I agree. Plus I'm sick of him going into a five step drop everytime he catches the ball before he throws. He has to get rid of the ball quicker. Just tell Konerko to run a post pattern to 1st.

Ryan Sweeney is a monster
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 08:11 AM) Which is why we should try to make sure we don't start Sweeney's arbitration clock too early...so that he's with us 10 years from now. Haha I'm not saying to have him break camp with the Sox. I'm just saying give the man some extra playing time and if you have openings, let him get a few innings in CF. Never hurts , cause it could be of aid somewhere down the road. But it would be dumb to have him up as a reserve.

Ryan Sweeney is a monster
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 08:04 AM) My point is that Anderson is still a rookie. It took time for Rowand to develop into the player that he is today. I think a few people are expecting Anderson to be as good as Rowand THIS SEASON. That's just not realistic. Well thats not me. I'm fully aware it takes players develop. Hell, I have to be one of the most patient people on this board. But I know if you went around asking scouts who would be the better player 10 years from now, almost every one would say Sweeney.

Ryan Sweeney is a monster
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 07:55 AM) ^^^ Yep, some people seem to forget that Rowand was a 4th outfielder before the past two seasons. Anderson is a 1st round pick in his rookie season. It's not fair to compare him to Rowand. Rowand was a 2nd round pick out of a very prestigious baseball school (Fullerton). Those two aren't all that different. Rowand produced at almost ever level as well and tools wise they are similar players. Good arm strength, good range, questionable offensive abilities. Rowand always hit in the minors just as Anderson has. The issue to me has long been the swings weren't the greatest and they had holes. I loved Rowand and will still be rooting for him, but he's gone. Anderson is a very similar player who could turn into a similar defensive player (with hard work) and possibly a better offensive player. Rowand did have a much more compact swing, especially when he would have his hot streaks (which he never had last year). I actually think last year will be one of Rowand's worse offensive seasons of his career as a starter. Obviously Anderson won't be the reason we win or lose the division. But if he's hitting .188 a month and a half into the season, this team needs to go somewhere else.

Deal may mean bye-bye, Borchard
The only way Borch or Gload would net us anything is if we were trading for a mediocre lefty reliever who made 3 or 4 million. It would be a salary dump for one team.

Ryan Sweeney is a monster
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 07:49 AM) What's more important at this point in time? Having a player in CF how you're confident in his defense day in and day out or having a guy who can hit a little better but is a giant question mark in CF defensively. It comes down to: below average offense + above average defense or average to above average offense + questionable defense IMO, we need someone in CF that we know is going to give us solid defense. Also, I'm not a very big fan of BA but I do feel he is the right man for the job at this current point in time. Agreed. I've long said Anderson has the job, but if he stinks the first month and a half of the regular season (ie, hits like he did all of last year with the big club) than I think the team has to look somewhere else. I don't know how well Mackoviak can play CF and Sweeney has only played it a bit, but he's a good athlete and a very under-rated defensive player. I wouldn't mind giving him a little playing time this spring just to see what he can do. Never hurts to have more options. However, I have also long said Anderson has all the talent. I just think he's the type of guy who has a very high maintenance swing. When he makes contact he tends to hit it hard, but his swing is rather violent and those type of swings seem to get out of whack easily. Plus he has a hell of a time hitting breaking balls at the major league level. Defensively he has the tools (range, strong arm) and I'm confident that he'll develop (but this year he won't be amazing out there; Rowand wasn't either his first year, it takes a lot of hard work).

Joshua Fields Forever...
Fields has definately impressed. He made adjustments around the middle half of last season and started creaming the ball. It also was a matter of him getting past one of his good friends dying in a car crash. I'm glad we'll have him in the minors to help push Crede along and he definately needs another year in the minors, but if Crede were to get hurt, along with Mackoviak, Fields could come in and try to play. Fields still has to work on his footwork at 3rd.

Ryan Sweeney is a monster
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 09:04 PM) You ignore the fact that Guillen is on the record as being very fond of Brian Anderson. Don't forget the first spring of Ozzie's managerial career with the Sox, Sweeney absolutely tore the cover off teh ball. It was so good that the Sox said they would have felt comfortable having him coming off the bench (not that they were going to do it). Injuries are the sole reason his numbers haven't been as amazing as you'd expect. But one look at his swing compared to Anderson tells me all I need to know about who will be the better hitter. That said Anderson has more power now and if he can find a way to put up the numbers he has in the minors, at the major league level, than I'd be really happy (and I'm talking in a couple years from now cause this year I think your gonna see a lot of ugly hacks from him).

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 09:02 PM) IT'S SPRING f***ING TRAINING!!! Defensively, Anderson is far more ready. He's far more capable of being very good in CF. Offensively, I don't think I'd say Anderson is more ready.

Front Page Will Be Closed
Well I'm calling it quits for the night in terms of work. But the page is back up with most stories. Still have to restore the main center story and the feed to Cheat's blog. That'll all be done by tomorrow.

Front Page Will Be Closed
Its more some random server thing thats bothering me. Not any upgrade per say. It actually has to do with getting FutureSox switched to a new server, but its caused some down time on ST's main page.

Bulls Pistons Game Thread.
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 01:08 AM) Please show me where all the Ben Gordon jock riders are.... you, hammer, qwerty, chisxfan.... majority of people do nothing but rip on him endlessly here.... its crazy how little props Gordon gets here compared to other places... and yes you gave him a little credit but you basicly pinned the loss all on him too and if it wasnt for him we wouldnt even of been in the situation to begin with. When a guy has a great game overall but messes up once I usually look the other way because without him it wouldnt of even been a game in the first place... I'm very fair with Gordon. I don't think he'll ever be anything more than a scorer. Problem is he's a scorer who doesn't a tweener which means he's best suited as a 6 man scoring machine (ala Bobby Jackson in the Kings hayday's). Gordon is not the answer at the 2 spot, therefor he should be packaged. Why should it be Gordon. Deng has a great future at the SF spot. Hinrich probably should have made the Olympic tryout roster over Ridnour and he's one of the better PG's in the league both offensively and defensively. Chandler is one of the few guys we have that is tall and while he can't score he can defend and get offensive and defensive boards. Plus his contract is an issue for a team that would want to acquire him. Ben Gordon comes up because he's pretty much s*** out of luck. If the Bulls want to go anywhere we need a legit 2 guard (Gordon can't do that nor can he play the point) and we need a legit low post scorer (obviously Gordon can't do that). Therefor, Gordon is the odd man out. I've given Gordon a lot of credit, but at the same time I'm not shy to rip the s*** out of him. If he's not scoring and shooting at a high % he's worthless cause he has no other assets. Its just like when Chandler was getting zero minutes and doing nothing defensively or on the glass I was ripping the crap out of him. However if he's a defensive force and a force on the boards thats just fine. Especially since he's our last option. I'd also go out on a limb and say the reason you see Gordon get less credit is because we aren't the normal fan. Sure a flashy move is nice, but we all tend to look at the overall ability of a player and not just the sexy aspect of a player (ie whether they can score). There is a lot more to the game of basketball than scoring.

Hannah Teeter
She's average. Amazing snowboarder though. Obviously she doesn't look super hot when she finishes up a run, at the same time magazine shots are gonna make her look better.

Ryan Sweeney is a monster
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 03:47 PM) I'm not so sure of that. KW seems to have some serious man-love for Anderson. And who replaces Anderson in CF if Sweeney replaces him? The Sox don't seem to want Podsednik playing CF. But I agree that Anderson will probably stuggle. He takes some wicked cuts at a lot of bad pitches. I think both Owens and Sweeney will be getting hard looks in 07. One may not be here or both could, but they will be getting looks. Sweeney has played some CF, not that he's amazing out there, but Sweeney is a very good athlete. I think Anderson has all the tools defensively and offensively, but its a matter of his swing working. Vladdy somehow gets his ugly as hell swing to work so maybe BA can too. Sweeney on the other hand...just such a sweet swing. Its one of those swings that will translate to a very high average. I've long said I think he'll develop power later on in his career as he learns to drive the inside pitch. I honestly think he could come up and play this year and hit in the .270 range. He'd have to make some adjustments and would struggle at times, but his swing is too good not to (if his wrist is healthy).

Ryan Sweeney is a monster
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 03:26 PM) Agreed, repeat AA and then go to AAA for the 2007 season. BY 07 he should be in the majors. All he needs is a healthy year in the minors. He has too good of a swing not to succeed. He's been on the fast track already and I'd go more along the lines of a month or two in Bham, rest of the year in Charlotte. Sweeney may be replacing Anderson and not Dye in the immediate future. I actually think Sweeney could come in and hit better than Brian at the major league level right now. Anderson has a lot left to prove cause I have my doubts as to how his swing (which is ugly as hell) will work at the major league level.

Bears interested in Ramsey
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 04:37 PM) Don't forget Ramsey was a 1st round pick himself, and under Spurrier he was starting to throw the ball nicely and was beginning to put up some fairly good numbers. Then Joe Gibbs came in, and basically killed all the momentum he has because he wasn't "his guy". The Skins should stick to their guns IMHO. Besides Culpepper and Brees, unless you go to the draft, there's not a lot of alternatives on the QB market. If I was a team like the Lions, Bills etc. I'd take a long look at Ramsey for a 3rd. I reiterate, just because he was a 1st rd pick doesn't mean they will get value for him. Everyone knows they will either trade him or release him, especially considering the cap problems the Skins are having. Plus Ramsey hasn't done anything under Gibbs and the guy took the beating of his life under Spurrier.

Bulls Pistons Game Thread.
Ben was one of the main reasons this team got to that point, but at the same time there is no doubt in my mind that he should be dealt with someone else or one of our picks and someone else for a big time shooting guard or low post player. Yet another night where the Bulls played great while losing. By far I think they are one of the better teams in the east, they just fail to finish. Noc has been playing amazing as of late.

White Sox Acquire Infielder Alex Cintron
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 05:14 PM) Everyone but one person has had good things to say about it. Even the Baj supporters think it's a good move, and the radio reports state Cintron will be a utility outfielder, and Mackowiak will be in the outfield. I think its worth noting that R&W never said it was a bad trade. He simply said it wasn't a steal. He said it was a good trade, but the Dbacks made it more because of cash considerations. Doesnt' take away the fact that it was a good move. I think he said that the move favored the Sox, just not in the fashion in which some posters called it a steal. I tend to agree because a steal would be the type of deal involving a player who is expected to have a huge impact on the club. For example...when we acquired Bartolo Colon...that was a steal. We got ourselves a super star for Osuna and some mediocre prospects (I think Rocky Biddle was a part of that trade as well).

White Sox Acquire Infielder Alex Cintron
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 05:10 PM) And if you go back and read the thread, he never once brought up or mentioned a Red Sox player first, and repeatedly tried to steer the conversation back to this particular deal. I got to see his fandom, Alex Gonzalez, and Manny Ramirez all mentioned off of the top of my head by other people who weren't RnW. Stick up for the White Sox all you want, but what the kid thought of Alex Gonzalez meant nothing to what he thought of the deal. It would be like me following around RockRaines and mentioning Charles Macon and Maurice Clarett as failed OSU Buckeyes everytime he posted about the White Sox. One has nothing to do with the other, and doing so would ruin just about every thread it got posted in. This thread was about the Baj/Cintron deal, and that is exactly what RnW posted about. He didn't like the deal why most everyone did, and instantly someone had to mention the Red Sox, then we got 8 pages of crap with an occasional nugget of good conversation mixed in. Maybe the problems between everyone got resolved at the end, but the point I am making bore mentioning in my opinion as an admin. Just because the kid is a Red Sox fan, doesn't mean every single thread he posts in where he disagrees with somone, they have to mention the Red Sox to validate their arguement. It makes for terrible threads. Maybe now RnW can post without someone mentioning the Red Sox, or WhiteSoxJosh can post without someone mentioning Kyle Orton. Great post.
