  1. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 10:44 AM) How long do you have to have that Illini crap in your sig/avatar anyways? I'm keeping it up. Go Illini. (EVIL GRIN)
  2. Damn it, it didn't let my user id work fully. I'm in though. I wanted my name to be Hawkeyes>>>Illinois
  3. QUOTE(daa84 @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 09:31 AM) can someone help me....did we completley lose the rights to castro? if he doesnt make the big league roster i believe he must return to the white sox, correct? or did we do one of those weird loopholes where we actually make a transaction and completely give him up? anyone know? EDIT: NVM i found it, he was selected by the royals who then traded him to the rangers, which means he cannot be returned to the white sox, i believe If he doesnt make the Rangers 25 man staff, it means the White Sox will have the opportunity to purchase him back for 25k.
  4. Good reminder. Were doing our podcast right now. Well attempting to.
  5. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 07:51 AM) Is there a way to notify everyone when something like this happens?? I hope you get the bastard that did this!! Ya, via email. If it happens again I plan to send those type of emails out through the board. Of course for that to work people need to have updated email addresses. The good news is we've had two straight days without any hits. I'm hoping thats a sign that he's been blocked.
  6. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 10:44 PM) Haha see they should put me on ESPN. But for real, there are going to be A LOT of teams holding their breath this week, hoping the Gonzaga's and Bucknell's of the world take care of their s*** in their league tourneys. Every bid counts, and it's also interesting to see what is considered "better"....a high major with a average resume, or a mid major with a better resume (ie somebody like FSU with a 50's RPI and 1 top 50 win vs. somebody like Bradley with a RPI around 30 and several top 50 wins, although pretty much all in the MVC.) Just wait till Fullerton wins the Big West conference tourney. That will be the bracket buster of them all
  7. That has to be a 2006 Darwin winner.
  8. QUOTE(greg775 @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 08:18 PM) The DL would not be good. I have a gut feeling (no pun intended) Jenks will not be a stud closer all season. I'm convinced Kenny will have to bolster the pen at the trade deadline. There is also an outside shot we'll be in the market for a CFer. Vazquez better pitch great, otherwise this team will regret trading Chris Young.
  9. I'm still convinced our best candidates (aside from a trade) are the in house ones. Munoz would be the front-runner in my mind.
  10. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 10:47 PM) Maybe with a broken nail? No way. There's always the option of trading. But we've got players that could supplement our offense adequately, if not exponentially. If Thome puts up last years numbers this team will definately be in a hole. I wouldn't count them out because of our pitching staff. I'm still convinced we may be looking at acquiring a big time closer or reliever at the trade deadline and potentially a CF. Anderson has all the tools but his swing is freaking FUGLY. He just looks overmatched at the plate. He can definately improve though and it could be he's still pressing (I just remember how disgusting he looked last year with the big club). And your right this team could make a trade. That said if Thome bellies up, than financially (they may have a bit of room) it would have to be for a lesser paid guy.
  11. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 08:32 PM) They are such a wildcard. They could do just about anything in this tournament and I wouldn't be surprised. Minny winning out would be the one thing IU fans would hate.
  12. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 08:26 PM) Doesn't change the fact he's lost it, and that date is a prime example of it. However Iowa should have never let him leave, although I'm sure there is a reason why he did that I don't know about. I couldn't tell you. Dr. Tom Davis was a good coach too, but we may have a national championship had he stuck around. Izzo has lost big games before. Coach K has. All great coaches do. The key to great coaches is getting their teams to the big games and getting them to play at there highest level. Lute still does it and he does it well.
  13. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 08:21 PM) Felix isn't top 20 because he hasn't had the chance at the ML level yet. Give him a year or 2 in the bigs before you start putting labels on him. At 19, Pujols wasn't even close to the bigs. The only reason you can say he was a top 20 hitter from the start of his career was because he was brought up at the beginning of the 2001 season, and played everyday for the entire season. Give Felix the chance to play a full season. You do realize that with Felix Hernandez, you get a player that could break every pitching record there is, right? At the age of 19, he came up and baffled hitters with a 99 MPH fastball, a wicked curve, and a wicked change to the tune of a 2.67, a 1.00 WHIP, and a better than 3/1 K/BB ratio in 84 1/3 innings last year, and that was all without the use of his best pitch (a filthy 90 MPH slider, which the Mariners refuse to let him throw until 2007). So, am I going to take a 20 year old ace, or a 25 year old bopper in a game where good (or in Felix's case, great) pitching usually beats good hitting? I'm taking the 20 year old ace every time. Could is the key question. It would be like a team trading Kobe Bryant for the rights to draft Lebron James. Everyone knew Lebron could become the best ever, but you know Kobe is one of the best ever (and yes I'm confident enough to say that despite the fact I hate him). Felix could become one of the best starters ever, but he has a lot of things to do first. Albert Pujols will be one of the best run producers in baseball and aside from Bonds and Manny, is the best hitter in the game. I happen to think Manny is the most prolific run producer to EVER play the game. He has such a pretty swing, power to all fields. His swing is a hitting coaches dream. The exact opposite of Vladdy's. Thats over a long period, of course I've never seen anyone more dominant than Barry.
  14. I've long been a fan of Heath Phillips and I think he's better than all of those turds the Sox signed during FA. Our best chance would be from within (if we aren't going to trade) cause those other puds were out there for a reason. Not as familiar with Boone. Logan's supposed to have a pretty good arm and a good build, but I don't know much about his repetoire.
  15. QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Mar 4, 2006 -> 02:45 PM) Awesome wallpaper Goldy! Hey Chimpy Thanks for the heads up with that PM thing.
  16. Soxtalk will be doing its first weekly Sox podcast starting tomorrow
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 02:36 PM) Johan Santana. Pujols a close second, due to some level of "Where would he play"-ness. And the fact that if you think Vazquez will make a good 5th starter...imagine what Johan can do.
  18. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 08:08 PM) Free agency delayed again. f***KKKKKKKKKKKKKKK Thats twice I have been counting down to it and then its moved. There will be nothing done by the new date and the NFL will look dumb again. Both sides are being very civil about it. I'm glad they aren't just sitting there and trying to force the issue. Pushing it back and continuing to hammer things out is going to be the reason things get worked out without any strike. By the way, I guess I called it
  19. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 08:06 PM) March 26th, 2005 You guys may have won that game, but Lute's won more big games than the Illini ever have.
  20. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 06:34 PM) Kerry Collins now available. May not be bad as a backup. Does turn the ball over too much though. I would like Josh McCown. He's talented and had a few really good games with the Cards, but Green opted with Warner.
  21. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 07:43 PM) UCLA is going to be dominant in the PAC 10 because Ben Howland teaches his players DEFENSE. Arizona and Washington will always have the talent to be damn good, but they simply don't defend well enough to be a consistent Final 4 type team, either of them. Stanford is really going downhill now that Monty is gone. AZ has one of the premier coaches in the game and has already played in quite a few national championships. They are more than capable of consistently being there.
  22. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 06:54 PM) This is going to an annual thing with Gonzaga until the end of time. They're never going to be spectacular, and there's nothing they can do about it. Because the only real conference (Pac 10) on the west coast is suspect too. Its only suspect right now. Typically its on of the better basketball conferences in the country with AZ and UCLA (who is about a year away from being back as a dominate player). Plus Washington has emerged and I think they are an underrated team right now. Lets not forget Stanford's run of dominance as well.
