  1. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 12:12 AM) Will see. For pete sake the guy has a 6.09 ERA in his major league career (171 games). Last year he was away from Coors and he was even worse with a 9.42 ERA in 29 games. This guy is HORRID. Kevin Walker is inifintely better than some of these bums that this team is giving a shot. I fear for this cause Ozzie tends to use guys in big situations, regardless of who they are, and these guys will BLOW games left and right.
  2. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 04:39 AM) I sid it then and I'll say it again now. Getting read of that Genital Pimples specialty subforum was one of the smartest things Jason ever did with the site. Ya, but cream sales have bottomed out.
  3. I think once your at 1000 pounds, a treadmill isn't an option.
  4. Hopefully Iowa plays well, but I'm just gonna sit back and enjoy the game tonight. Its nice that this is the first time in a while where the Hawks aren't on the bubble.
  5. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 11:01 PM) I see Lopez got roughed up. I'm not worried about this performance. Now let's see how he responds his next time out. That will tell a lot. His performance is just a sign of things to come. He blows chunks just like all the other lefty candidates.
  6. Iowa picked up a win. Like I said, I don't care what we do the rest of the big 10 tourney. I just want to escape it healthy.
  7. Well Lopez got his ass lit up. The guys a bum.

    Forward Rates

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 11:10 AM) Are you looking for just futures closes or actual spot 3 month from today rates? If you are looking for the basic closes you can find those at the CME link, the specialized forward are much, much harder to find as there is no set marketplace. Ya I was looking for the forwards. Gonna check out that CME spot and see if they have anything though. I know with Forwards they aren't institutionalized so its definately harder to find, but I figured somewhere there would be the data.
  9. Wow Jim, thats horrible. Prayers to the families involved.
  10. QUOTE(rangercal @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 01:34 PM) I'm proud to be an American! Seriously...I turned it onto ESPN Deportes and was just like atta boy.
  11. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 10:09 AM) Well, if Anderson and Sweeney can amount to 20 hr's each. That would suffice. Konerko and Thome will still be here under contract, either joe or Fields can both produce a decent amount of power as well. Plus the contracts would be small enough to give us flexibility to keep our pitching staff intact when need be. Buehrle is going to command a large sum of cash when its his turn. But 2 years after this season (which is when that outfield would be in place), I don't think you can be counting on Thome as guaranteed Hr's.
  12. You know what I just realized. I may be the only person on here that goes to a school that won a national championship whlie they attended said school. I'm guessing maybe a few OSU people went there when they won a National Championship. Just had to say this since Fullerton's cinderalla dream ended last night with a last second loss to arch rival Long Beach State.
  13. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 09:56 AM) I read that, but I dont even think Owens projects to be a CF'er or nearly as good in CF as Anderson defensively. I see Owens in LF, Anderson in CF and Sweeney in RF, am i wrong? That would be nice, however that outfield would lack power and developing that many in house outfielders so close together will be tough. To do that this team will have to get more than normal power from the infield and very strong pitching. Realistically at least one of those 3 will fail and there is a shot that one of those 3 will be traded.
  14. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 09:43 AM) I agree with you. If the Sox feel Owens can fill Pods shoes and Pods has a decent to good season, I think Pods is gone. It all comes back to that old line by Branch Rickey. It's better to trade a guy a year too soon than a year too late. Thats assuming Anderson plays well. If Anderson struggles I think you will see the Sox give Owens substantial playing time in CF (in Charlotte). If Anderson plays well and shows improvement throughout the year than I think the Sox would consider Owens replacing Pods. However if Pods has a good year, Owens kicks butt and makes a lot of progress in CF (defensively) and Anderson struggles to find his way, than I think Owens replaces Pods and works with him for a year or so and than the Sox will have Pods for one more year. Thats about as long as I could see Pods around.
  15. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 09:40 AM) Exactly, Jason. I've always been supportive of Gload. He's a solid hitter and very good with the glove around firstbase. However, he doesn't fit the needs of this team as currently constructed. I also want to say if we are going to carry 3 1st baseman, I'd rather see us carry 3 catchers (not that we have a 3rd catcher thats capable) but it makes more sense than carrying 3 1st baseman (especially when all 3, even Gload are primarily first baseman). Having a guy like Borch that could be a defensive replacmenet anywhere in the outfield would be real nice.
  16. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 09:33 AM) I can't go there. Sorry. I believe Borchard fits the needs of this team so much more than Gload. There is even and outside shot that it finally clicks with Joe, and if BA falters, JB can step in. Gload cannot do that because he can't play CF. I know I'm reaching, but I'm trying to consider various scenarios that can occur over the course of a season. I'm totally with you Yas. It makes no sense to me why Gload would be a front-runner. Gload can play multiple positions, but he's primarily a 1st baseman. This team has two first baseman (although I realize if one got hurt mid game, we wouldn't be able to switch Thome over unless we wanted the pitcher to hit). However, in a pinch Ozuna/Mack/Dye and others could play for a game. Than if the injury was serious we could promote Rogowski as the backup. However, Borchard can play all 3 outfield positions and he is good defensively (with a strong arm). Offensively Gload is the better hitter (average wise), but Borchard is a switch hitter who can provide some power from each side of the plate (he also had more big hits last season than Gload; in a very limited time to boot). If it were me in charge, the decision would be pretty easy...Borch would be breaking camp with the club. And this is coming from someone whose always supported Gload.

    Forward Rates

I'm working on a project and I need to find the 3 month forward rate for the Japanese Yen (Yen/$) or ($/Yen). I've been able to find what it is today, however I need to find what it was on January 15th cause I'm using it as one of my ways to predict what the Taiwan Dollar's rate will be on April 15th (and the Taiwan dollar has no forwards, but there currency is highly correlated to that of the Japanese Yen so I can use that as a predictor). Does anyone have any clue where I can find it. I've had no luck finded a record of past 3 month forwards, only how much the forward is today.
  18. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 08:08 AM) I agree. Plus I'm sick of him going into a five step drop everytime he catches the ball before he throws. He has to get rid of the ball quicker. Just tell Konerko to run a post pattern to 1st.
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 08:11 AM) Which is why we should try to make sure we don't start Sweeney's arbitration clock too early...so that he's with us 10 years from now. Haha I'm not saying to have him break camp with the Sox. I'm just saying give the man some extra playing time and if you have openings, let him get a few innings in CF. Never hurts , cause it could be of aid somewhere down the road. But it would be dumb to have him up as a reserve.
  20. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 08:04 AM) My point is that Anderson is still a rookie. It took time for Rowand to develop into the player that he is today. I think a few people are expecting Anderson to be as good as Rowand THIS SEASON. That's just not realistic. Well thats not me. I'm fully aware it takes players develop. Hell, I have to be one of the most patient people on this board. But I know if you went around asking scouts who would be the better player 10 years from now, almost every one would say Sweeney.
  21. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 07:55 AM) ^^^ Yep, some people seem to forget that Rowand was a 4th outfielder before the past two seasons. Anderson is a 1st round pick in his rookie season. It's not fair to compare him to Rowand. Rowand was a 2nd round pick out of a very prestigious baseball school (Fullerton). Those two aren't all that different. Rowand produced at almost ever level as well and tools wise they are similar players. Good arm strength, good range, questionable offensive abilities. Rowand always hit in the minors just as Anderson has. The issue to me has long been the swings weren't the greatest and they had holes. I loved Rowand and will still be rooting for him, but he's gone. Anderson is a very similar player who could turn into a similar defensive player (with hard work) and possibly a better offensive player. Rowand did have a much more compact swing, especially when he would have his hot streaks (which he never had last year). I actually think last year will be one of Rowand's worse offensive seasons of his career as a starter. Obviously Anderson won't be the reason we win or lose the division. But if he's hitting .188 a month and a half into the season, this team needs to go somewhere else.
  22. The only way Borch or Gload would net us anything is if we were trading for a mediocre lefty reliever who made 3 or 4 million. It would be a salary dump for one team.
  23. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 07:49 AM) What's more important at this point in time? Having a player in CF how you're confident in his defense day in and day out or having a guy who can hit a little better but is a giant question mark in CF defensively. It comes down to: below average offense + above average defense or average to above average offense + questionable defense IMO, we need someone in CF that we know is going to give us solid defense. Also, I'm not a very big fan of BA but I do feel he is the right man for the job at this current point in time. Agreed. I've long said Anderson has the job, but if he stinks the first month and a half of the regular season (ie, hits like he did all of last year with the big club) than I think the team has to look somewhere else. I don't know how well Mackoviak can play CF and Sweeney has only played it a bit, but he's a good athlete and a very under-rated defensive player. I wouldn't mind giving him a little playing time this spring just to see what he can do. Never hurts to have more options. However, I have also long said Anderson has all the talent. I just think he's the type of guy who has a very high maintenance swing. When he makes contact he tends to hit it hard, but his swing is rather violent and those type of swings seem to get out of whack easily. Plus he has a hell of a time hitting breaking balls at the major league level. Defensively he has the tools (range, strong arm) and I'm confident that he'll develop (but this year he won't be amazing out there; Rowand wasn't either his first year, it takes a lot of hard work).
  24. Fields has definately impressed. He made adjustments around the middle half of last season and started creaming the ball. It also was a matter of him getting past one of his good friends dying in a car crash. I'm glad we'll have him in the minors to help push Crede along and he definately needs another year in the minors, but if Crede were to get hurt, along with Mackoviak, Fields could come in and try to play. Fields still has to work on his footwork at 3rd.
  25. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 09:04 PM) You ignore the fact that Guillen is on the record as being very fond of Brian Anderson. Don't forget the first spring of Ozzie's managerial career with the Sox, Sweeney absolutely tore the cover off teh ball. It was so good that the Sox said they would have felt comfortable having him coming off the bench (not that they were going to do it). Injuries are the sole reason his numbers haven't been as amazing as you'd expect. But one look at his swing compared to Anderson tells me all I need to know about who will be the better hitter. That said Anderson has more power now and if he can find a way to put up the numbers he has in the minors, at the major league level, than I'd be really happy (and I'm talking in a couple years from now cause this year I think your gonna see a lot of ugly hacks from him).
