QUOTE(Dan @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 02:38 PM) its that time of year again, opening day starts tomorrow and the sox are defending the world title. last year i decided that i wanted to start my own white sox baseball blog but wanted to start from opening day thru. my question is: does anybody know where i can set up a sox baseball blog account? include some links if you can. thanks! Your more than welcome to contribute to our front page
  3. QUOTE(JimH @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 10:09 AM) Guys, I think this is a very fair deal for both teams and I also believe there is a good chance of this happening. The Brewers are unhappy with Carlos Lee, he didn't come to camp in great shape and he's had nagging injuries as a result. The Cubs aren't thrilled with Rich Hill, he has not come on as expected and Angel Guzman looked better but they're not sold on his health. As for Matt Murton, Dusty Baker isn't thrilled with him. There is no way Carlos Lee would re-up with Milwaukee, the Brewers know it. This trade makes sense for both sides but I would love to see the Cubs pay even more in terms of giving up talent. Ya this makes some sense to me. The Brewers get two pitching prospects that are basically major league ready and a young outfielder to come in. This fits with there time table of emerging in a year or two (although I think they will be pretty solid this year). This makes a lot of sense.
  4. BlackHawks Finally Pull Past the Wings, 3-2 By Matthew Perioli The Blackhawks have had a heck of a time dealing with the Detroit Red Wings this season. They headed into Friday night's game with an 0-6 record this year against Detroit, and goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin had been pulled from each of the last two losses against the Wings. However, the Hawks, for one night at least, have bragging rights after defeating Detroit by a final score of 3-2 in overtime.
  5. Has to be a lame April Fools joke
  6. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 09:15 AM) Got a rookie in the outfield too. Our relief pitching has been talked about on here more than ESPN talks about barry bonds. But were developing him right. He's going to be the final hitter in the lineup and he's going to have very little pressure on him. The same can't be said for all the guys in the pen. Remember, all this said I fully expect Kenny to make a trade (probably sooner rather than later) and maybe even a 2nd deal (if something happens and Jenks can get his velocity back cause he was a lazy bum in the offseason) and we will win the division.
  7. So should they not be able to wear Brace's either. I realize Brace's deal more with an injury thing but Kobe wore those compression tights because he said they helped him respond in back to back games, etc. Plus it helped keep his muscles warm when he was working back from an injury. I don't go to the game to see what the players wear, I go or watch because I want to see them play. The NBA needs to realize that. The dress code isn't the issue, its the lack of fundementals in this league thats the problem.
  8. So I guess I'm the only one who thinks Woody Paige is the funniest man alive.
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 08:45 AM) Vizcaino didn't suck. He had about 4 or 5 bad games, but besides that, he was pretty reliable. So many of us were busy bashing him, that we overlooked how many big outs he actually got for us. Plus he was the type of guy that you could run out 3 or 4 days in a row and he'd only get better. I couldn't believe how much hate Viz took because he had a few awful appearances early on. He was a horse out of our pen and will be missed. Even Marte had his bright spots for at least half of the season.
  10. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 08:46 AM) Hey jas, speaking of Anaheim, is Chris Bootcheck going to make that team? He's from a town over from me, and I remember his HS days well. He's finally made some progress, but I have my doubts as to whether he'll ever stick in Anaheim. He's definately been a big bust. IIRC a few years back his stuff kind of dissapeared and he's never quite been the same. He's been solid in the minors, but nothing amazing. Supposed to be a hard worker though. He's in trouble though because the Angels got at least a few other guys ahead of him on the list, but Bootcheck could make a spot start if someone goes down (although I think that will be Weaver's job) or fit into the back of the pen if someone goes down.
  11. QUOTE(JimH @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 08:34 AM) Yes. And there are already loud whispers he's not healthy in Arizona. Oh ya, good riddance to Duque. I long hoped we could get rid of him. My flaws werent necessarily with getting Vazquez, although I thought it was a completely useless trade (however I am excited to see what he could do) simply because I'm perfectly comfortable with keeping Chris Young as ammo later in the year and giving McCarhty a shot. I'm more than willing to go with our top 4 and McCarthy to start the year and have enough ammo in the farm system to get guys if necessary and than focus my money on another reliever and of course finding a team willing to take Duque off our hands. And while this is all in hindsight I do think I was said right after the trade (after we lost Marte and Viz) that these would be fine moves as long as he replaces these guys with solid major leaguers because our system has crap. He didn't and I think the team is going to pay the price.
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 08:32 AM) It pisses me off because we have so much talent and money invested in our starting pitching, yet we have so much uncertainty with our bullpen. I admire what KW did to bolster our offense this season, but I think he really overlooked the one aspect of our team which really was underrated last season. He didn't just overlook it, he pissed away the depth we had there. Trading for Vazquez is fine and dandy, but if your going to give up 2/6th's of our pen and lose another 1/3rd do to injury I expect to see quality replacements brought in. I have no problem developing a guy or so to start the seaosn or even 2 if we had 4 quality relievers that are proven, but this many, its flat out ridiculous. In this day and age bullpens are a key to not only making the playoffs but winning in the playoffs and I fear we will be blowing games left and right and well our farm system doesn't exactly have the depth to go out and acquire 3 GOOD relievers and hell possibly a closer.
  13. I completely agree with this. Our bullpen was ripped to shreds this off-season, losing 3 key contributors and were filling in the pieces with rookies. Jenks is out of shape McCarthy isn't a reliever (and I still expect him to figure things out in the pen, but I'm getting concerned) Logan is a flat out rookie Thornton has been awful (although he seems to have made a bit of progress. We had a rotation that was very strong, but we upgraded that while tearing the bullpen to shreds. Its a big mistake and it could very well cost us if Kenny doesn't make changes. It ticks me off because we went from having one of the best bullpens in baseball to possibly one of the worse and it kills me that a team with a 90+ million payroll whose defending world series champs is going into the start of the season with this many question marks in the pen.
  14. I still think I'd have the Angels ahead of both the Dodgers and Dbacks.
  15. The NBA is beyond ridiculous. They continue to drive me more and more to the college game by worrying about such trivial things. Plus I always though the tights were used for compression. No one is going to tell me they are stylish.
  16. Both of these are amazing. So damn tough.

    That top one is sweet.
  18. We will learn a lot about our system as we get Lummy back and see guys like Broadway/Cunnigham/Brooks/Richards/Getz develop. I am quite confident that we had a very good draft last year. Plus we can see if Wes Whisler can somehow develop as well as if our stud catcher can figure it out in full season this team around.

QUOTE(Young Gun @ Mar 30, 2006 -> 06:32 PM) I think I'm more known as KnuckleSox1. I bet some members that were around the time I was around hardly recall me as Young Gun. So many names, you didn't even know who you were at Soxtalk

Just like with two other formerly banned posters, we have decided to let back in Young Gun. For those of you that don't know, Young Gun was banned a year or two ago for trolling the site and behaving childishly. However, since than he's matured and has actually built another White Sox site. He's also became a valuable member on our new Bears site and has been nothing but respectable. By acting that way we here at Soxtalk feel that he's earned a 2nd chance to be a part of this community. So without further ado, welcome back Young Gun
  22. I just fixed it. I don't know what it is, but the rss link I was using wasn't working anymore. The one I put in this time was a different one, but its working fine now.
  23. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Mar 30, 2006 -> 05:49 PM) The feed to SSS has been busted on the frontpage for a few days. It seems to be working elsewhere, however. Its weird, I noticed it two days ago and than it started working again without me touching it. I know I haven't messed with it, but I'll check it out and see if somehow a setting got adjusted.
  24. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 30, 2006 -> 01:57 PM) ya, that's the way they are supposed to be... now jason, if you wanted to get REALLY all high tech, you should bring those buttons into these skins on top of the forums. Now THAT would rock. Thats my next plan. But I am going to test it out on a custom skin first. I figure I shoudl make a new line navigational line for that.
