  1. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 23, 2006 -> 12:07 PM) Your expectations weren't too high. We were there for 7 days and drove back to Pheonix 5 of them. My dad and I aren't much fans of Tuscon. We go there once and than spend the rest of the time in the Phoenix area.
  2. QUOTE(JimH @ Mar 23, 2006 -> 11:59 AM) Interesting article in the Phoenix Business Journal: http://phoenix.bizjournals.com/phoenix/sto.../06/story2.html Says that west valley Phoenix suburb Goodyear and Casa Grande (which sits between Phoenix and Tucson) are negotiating to build facilities and get teams. From quickman's contact at the Rangers/Royals facility in Surprise AZ, the White Sox are definitely interested in a partnership (shared facility) with the Dodgers, who are apparantly finally ready to pull out of Vero Beach FL after all these years. According to that contact, Phoenix area cities under consideration are Goodyear and Glendale. The Indians would then move to Tucson and take the White Sox' place with the Dbacks. The White Sox lease at TEP extends to 2012 so they'd need to find a replacement team if they move to the Phoenix area. This article indicates there could be some announcements in as soon as 2-3 months. Goodyear seems logical since they have plenty of land and recently went through the funding approval process when Arte Moreno (Angels) wanted to move from Tempe Diablo. Supposedly the city of Glendale recently signed an exclusive contract with MLB to negotiate with any team. They want to build a new stadium near the new football stadium and basketball facilities (right off the 101 and the 10). It would be sweet if the Sox moved down there and my dad would be excited as hell if the Dodgers were who they shared it with.
  3. QUOTE(spataro51 @ Mar 23, 2006 -> 11:39 AM) i made the thread because what i was told i believed to be true........i was told other info in the past which happened to be true. so i was under the impression that this was true. anyways i apologize to everyone here if any warm was caused. i allready sent an email to jason explaining things. I think most of us know you heard something from a valid source and we are very appreciative of that fact that you shared that inside knowledge with us.
  4. Sox Look Bolstered, But Questions Still Loom By Mike Matha There is no such thing as a “paper champion.” Coming off a heroic-like championship run, the 2006 Chicago White Sox will be the first to tell you this. Though the additions of Jim Thome, Javier Vazquez, Rob Mackowiak and Alex Cintron give the White Sox a paper champion feel, many have overlooked the subtractions of a team formerly built on pitching and defense. Regulars Carl Everett, Aaron Rowand, Damaso Marte, Luis Vizcaino and bench players Timo Perez and Willie Harris have all seen the exit. And though it appears the Sox now have an added “swagger” in their line-up, they still have to answer questions of bullpen depth and defense...MORE
  5. Free...but I'm stuck with my folks.
  6. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 04:33 PM) Jim just about busted his pants when he read that...
  7. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 04:30 PM) We talked about this when you were here for the last home series.... I'm obviously completely retarded. But it didn't take this post for ya to figure this out.
  8. Maybe I'm way off, but wouldn't every other source and place that mentioned these rumors be in the same boat as us?
  9. Hot or Not: 3rd Week of Spring Training By Tyler James It is time for the second issue of Who’s Hot? Who’s Not?. This week is our second Spring Training Edition. Here we will list off players or roles that have been very hot or not so hot. In fact, our list is so good, that Seattle insisted on acquiring Joe Borchard for Matt Thornton...MORE
  10. My take is we never did anything wrong. This is an avenue for posters to make there opinions heard. In some instances we will remove posts, but in no way did we feel one poster sharing what he called a source, being innapropriate. In fact, aside from that thread this site has been always very careful when it comes to labeling players with steroids. And that thread did have fire, considering all the news outlets reporting the news simultaneous with Soxtalk.
  11. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 02:44 PM) On this topic of Chicago Media members lifting material from Soxtalk, there's one person--perhaps the most well known in this city--whose raised my attention in the past. When Mariotti was on ESPN 1000, I recall several instances it was almost eerie how similar his comments were to posts on Soxtalk. I don't believe I posted on the issue, but someone--believe it was SS2k5--said something one morning about the Sox which Mariotti repeated WORD for WORD. It wasn't "Sox are terrible," but an assessment I recall ssk25 mentioning which struck me as familar after Mariotti said it. I hope this SI article doesn't change our website. And by change, I mean a WSI scenario where we're more concerned about appeasing the media than serving our own members. I doubt this would happen, but just want to throw it out there and hope it's shunned upon. Its shunned upon. We are who we are and we continue to build and we'd like to think aim this site toward what the vast majority of the users want. We will always be free to members and popup free as well. That said we do hope to continue to grow and see our network continue to grow. We hope our new sites can turn into the success that is Soxtalk.com. It couldn't have been done without all of you.
  12. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 02:38 PM) Today. I just went to Barnes and Noble and coudln't even find a Sports Illustrated issue there. They told me it would be there tomorrow though.
  13. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 02:33 PM) It's spring J... when have you known a spring to go by without some rampant rumors...? And with RC not starting the season.. watch if (when) he come back in July and is doing well. Holy hell will break loose on the subject. Are you implying its not a done issue?
  14. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 02:29 PM) No worries.. I'm sure that story will be surfacing soon. Do you know something I don't Steff? Well you know a lot I don't, but in regards to this subject
  15. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 02:13 PM) media members are increasingly paying attention to these kinds of boards. i have a friend who's a beat writer for a major daily and he said he checks boards regularly. he doesn't run with everything he sees, but there are things he can at least check out. frankly, if i was a beat writer i think i would not be doing my job if i wasn't checking. that is partly what disappointed me in the article. it was nice to see the soxtalk mention, but a more key point is why is this reaching the "mainstream" press. i wish the article would have explored further how a post on a message board gets into the regular news. to me, it is not news that some outlandish ideas are offered up on a fan web site. it is news that it would be picked up and run with by news outlets throughout the country who are supposed to be held to higher standards of accountability. I'd have loved to see mention of all the stories we've broken before the major press. From our first story (thanks to Steff and another poster) which was the Foulke/Koch deal to all the different times we scooped the world on Brandon McCarthy and other moves.
  16. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 01:54 PM) From that thread... How prophetic...
  17. QUOTE(AbeFroman @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 01:51 PM) There is no such thing as bad press Yep, I'm going with that train of though.
  18. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 01:47 PM) Heh, none of the administrators knew this was coming. Trust me, Jason's like a chatty schoolgirl.....we'd have known in minutes. You ain't kidding, I'm stunned. I am going to go buy it later today though. I knew when I was in ESPN the Magazine, although I never knew which issue until someone posted it here a while back. But I never knew about this.
  19. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 01:42 PM) Relax francis.. Yas is telling the idiot poster to MHOFB, not commenting about ST getting sued. Ya, I just read it. Haha.
  20. It came off odd since the writer says we shouldn't care about the legal issues, but thats insane to get this type of PR. Holy cripes. Did this issue come out today?
  21. I need to see that. Can anyone tell me what issue, I'd like to go purchase it.
  22. Just want to comment. Vaden sure stepped it up for you guys down the stretch. I knew I wasn't an idiot when I talked about his talent
  23. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 01:01 PM) and Alford stays......sorry Gage, but I'm ecstatic. I won't forget that he did do a great job this season, but he's going to have to get a lot out of next years crew. If he finds a way to do that I have no problem keeping him longer, but if he doesn't, he's probably gone.
  24. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 11:51 PM) Where is Gene Honda Civic to tell us that Alford to Indiana is still a lock btw? My guess for the final 2 for Indiana as of now is Gillespie from A&M and that Whitman guy that Mark Cuban likes. And I find it pretty funny that Alford wants to dump Iowa for Misery....says all you need to know about the Iowa basketball program. No, I think it says more about the fact that Alford knows his job isn't secure so if he could get good money and a long term deal at a place like Mizzu, that may be best for his career.
