All I can say is college is definately worth it. A year before I graduated I got a job that will be paying me solid. The only problem is living is freaking ridiculous in California. If I were anywhere else I'd be set.

QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 07:26 AM) That makes sense, and I have no idea, but do Dairy Queen workers work for tips...? If they do I feel bad for them. I've never once tipped there.

  5. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 05:29 PM) is there any news on Hermy? i have enough faith in Kenny W that he'll get us a pitcher or two at some point. Maybe Logan will learn something from today's outing and come back and build some confidence in KC. last year was a once in a lifetime experience, leading wire to wire and winning all those one run games. the sooner we stop expecting things to unfold the way they did last year, the better off we'll all be. That won't be easy to do, but it's the only way we can proceed. Hermy isn't expected back till June and last I read Sox brass was pretty upset with him for not being a straight shooter when Ozzie and Kenny asked him about his back.
  6. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 03:47 PM) The best thing for this team might be getting out of Chicago. There was alot of hype this series, and maybe it will be best for them to get to KC and pound the s*** out of them. I really hope thats what they need... Man I hope we beat KC, otherwise I'd hate to see this place
  7. By the way, I just realized there are a few grammatical things that need to be fixed. It was edited once, but I'm totally exhausted so I'm sure some stuff was missed. I'm going to run through it tomorrow and clean it up.
  8. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 07:13 PM) Good stuff Jas. I started to make an attempt to follow the farm of the Sox last season, by doing a couple AAPs. My AAPs (Cunningham and Sanchez) are both starting the season down in Kannapolis. I'll definitely have my eye on this club throughout the season. Sanchez should be fun to watch develop. He has all the tools, but needs to make adjustments and obviously succeed in his first full season. Had some what of a dissapointing 2005 campaign but the talent is there.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 06:54 PM) You still said it though, and will take a little hiatus as a result. Since the season's started and the activity's increased, the respect level's gone to the way side the past couple days. We're going to start cracking down on out-of-line posts and begin punishing guilty-parties, in hopes of ceasing an unbearable PHT during the course of the season. Once again, Soxtalk encourages a free discussion between its members, but does not allow personal attacks, threats, graphic sexual material, and nudity. Follow those few rules, and SoxTalk will continue to be the GREAT board that it has become. Well said Greasy. We need to ocassionally remind people of this and with the season starting back up we need to be careful that people still are aware of being respectful to other posters. This goes for all posters, when you make a post, before hitting the submit button, think quickly and make sure you aren't disrespecting another poster. Disagreeing and debating aren't a sign of disrespect and we encourage a free discussion that doesn't involve personal attacks, threats, or porn.
  10. Hopefully anyone interested in the minors enjoys this. It took a lot of work for me to dig up info on some of these guys. Had to contact people for some of this stuff. I'm going to try and get up one for each team that way people can reference these pieces for info on players if they ever wonder. Did my best to find out what guys threw, etc. For the dominican guys it was insanely difficult and the people I was in contact with really had no idea either.
  11. A Look at the 2006 Intimidators By Jason Gage FutureSox.com With the start of the minor league season just a few days away, the Intimidators have released their official opening day roster. Included on this roster are top prospects like Ricky Brooks, and Francisco Hernandez as well as a slew of guys who find themselves in that mix of players who have the potential to emerge as upper echelon prospects...MORE

QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 05:51 PM) Fun with numbers Lets look at it this way if you NET $10,000 a year then you take home a check for $192.00 a week. I could live on that If you gross $10,000 its more along the lines of $145.00 a week I know people that spend that much on food for themselves (they are body builders, but still, haha). That includes supplements too. But ya that would be rough. It stinks, there are people that have to live on that, but thats just more reason to be motivated and do everything you can to make sure you don't. CPA's 4 life eh Greg

QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 05:32 PM) No you didn't say that, but you were talking about how $9,000 was not that much compared to other diamonds. If your husband thought $9,000 was too much money, he would not have bought that engagment ring for you. No matter how much money I make and how much I love my future wife, I don't think I could ever spend that much on a ring. I just see no point in wearing jewlery and obviously see no point in spending that much money on jewlery. Its all relative based on income. Obviously someone who makes 10,000 a year isn't going to drop 9k on a ring. Hell I doubt they'd drop 1k, but I'm sure JR or some of these athletes drop a lot on there wives rings, etc. Plus it depends on what people like. Lets say you make 300K a year when you get older, wouldn't a lot of people say you waste money dropping 15K on some really good season seats, possibly, but if you like the Sox its not a big deal. You might as well enjoy your leisure time. Hell, I know if I get up to a certain amount anually (and right now I make decent money for someone my age, but nothing special since I'm not a full time employee) I promised my dad a court side ticket to a Lakers game (he's always wanted to sit courtside and if its for one game and I make half a mill a year (who knows if that will ever happen, but damn it I can be delusional and dream) than why not dump 2k on tickets that would put a huge ass smile on the man who raised me's face. Enough of this rant on how everything is relative. I need to go find me a job that pays me 500K after college. Anyone interested..ehh ehhh
  14. I just finished a long ass writeup on every player at Kanny. I'm going to work on the same for every team. It was a hell of a task, but hopefully everyone will like it. Editing it right now so it should go up in the morning.

QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 05:06 PM) No way they cost combined 9K. I have jewlery that cost in that neighborhood and that ring was 3x the size of my ring. The estimates are rumored to be approx $20k EACH. Damn, even if the 3 rings cost a combined 60K (obviously I was way off) the Sox should still easily raise half a million for charities which is great. Its cool JR went all out on these babies.

How is there enough people this stupid???
  20. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 02:27 PM) A couple of factors -- Ozzie has shown in the past that he likes bunting a runner to 2nd to get the runner in scoring position with 1 out. Also, maybe Podsednik's groin is still bothering him so Ozzie didn't want him straight stealing 2nd base. I'd like to hear why you think Iguchi was bunting for a hit by himself without Ozzie's sign? Sure seemed like a designed play to me. Teams rarely have a guy steal when the bunt is on. Thats a damn good way to bunt into a DP cause bunts do get popped up. I highly doubt that was a designed bunt, that was more Guch trying to get a guy over while also trying to get a base hit. He got close too.

QUOTE(Beltin'Bill @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 02:26 PM) Math a bit off. I think someone forgot to add one more zero (432 * $20,000 = $8.6 million, not $860K). I'm confused, but was it announced somewhere that the rings were 20,000 each?
  22. Chisoxfn replied to knightni's topic in SLaM
QUOTE(hi8is @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 02:17 PM) $20.00 * 40,000 tickets = $800,000 estimated cost of rings = $860,000 great way to get the money back jerry... good job. Wait, I don't get it. 3 rings are all that he's giving out and those 3 rings cost probably at most 9,000 total (Plus MLB pays something like 1500 per ring and anything over that the team is on the hook for). So they will raise 800,000 less the 9000 in costs which would be 791,000. Obviously there are probably some other expenses that go into it, but if they sell all the tickets they should raise half a million (minimum) for White Sox charities. Pretty cool thing
