  1. I don't see it. This is a horrid move by IU. This guy is a loser when it comes to recruiting and isn't a very good head coach. I don't see him being better than Alford and at least Alford is a fan favorite. If your going to get rid of Davis you should have gotten someone better (Alford wouldn't have been that guy, but he'd have been better than Sampson). Just wait till you guys get sanctioned after a few years of his crap.
  2. QUOTE(Randar68 @ Mar 28, 2006 -> 11:29 AM) A mistake? Come on. The guy is a raw kid in A ball and you don't hand out 40-man roster spots to kids like that who aren't the top prospects. Jenks wasn't a mistake. The Angels knew exactly what they were doing. The Sox were the recipients of the luck of the dice in that move and the Angels just wanted to wash their hands of him. Santana I will give you. Any lefty with that type of stuff should be protected, especially considering the lack of depth this system has. I'd much rather have protected him than some of the other bums we ended up putting on the 40. However, I understand trying to sneak him through because you can keep him off your 40 and not start up his clock (I think it starts up when your on the 40, but I may be wrong). I will also admit our system was a lot different looking at the time we had to protect him, but considering some of the guys that we had on the 40, Castro would have been a far wiser choice. Often times these picks don't work out, but no one is going to tell me the org wouldn't want Castro at this point. He's probably a better option than Thornton (well at least the Thornton thats pitching right now). I just wish Thornton had an option left so he could work on the things Coop is teaching him at the minor league level. I don't like the idea of him making adjustments (serious adjustments) at the major league level.
  3. QUOTE(T R U @ Mar 28, 2006 -> 11:24 AM) True, I can understand on Bobby Jenks but I doubt at the time anyone knew Santana was going to become what he has today.. How did they let this happen? Just werent payin attention or are what? Usually you figure a guy in low A ball isn't going to make the majors or be able to stick so teams will oftne chance keeping that guy off the 40 man while keeping another player that would be eligible (whose at a higher level and more likely to stick for a full season) on the 40 man. Heck just look at Majewski. The Sox lost him once and got him back and than eventually dealt him to the Nats where he panned out. I was dissapointed we didn't protect Castro though. A lefty with his type of stuff (regardless of how young he was and the level he was out) should have been protected. However, at the time we had a much different looking farm system and team.
  4. QUOTE(T R U @ Mar 28, 2006 -> 11:04 AM) Thats what I was just going to ask.. If Castro is so great and has all this potential why wasnt he protected? It was a mistake the White Sox made. A big mistake. The same reason guys like Bobby Jenks got released by the Angels or how Johan Santana got away from the Astros.
  5. And you guys didn't want Alford BAHAHAA...best coaching job in the country and you get Sampson. Sorry Hoosier fans, but I need some sort of way to blow off my steam from losing to Northwestern State.
  6. I didn't think the Michaels move was a big move and we did mention Mota going to the Indians. The problem is they aren't getting the Mota of a few years ago with the Dodgers, they are gettnig the one whose been injury riddled the past few years who inititially didn't pass his physical. I'll be the first to admit I wasn't clear on Batista or not, but I remembered Hudson was dealt. However, Troy Glaus will provide a lot of pop for that team, plus they have Catalanto who can play 2nd (not that he is a good defensive 2nd baseman). I'd agree with you that its a definate downgrade defensively. On a sidenote, thanks for the feedback. Its the only way we are going to get better.
  7. I think its the VP. I just know one thing, my favorite character has to be Aaron (Secret Service Guy).

QUOTE(Nokona @ Mar 27, 2006 -> 07:43 PM) Definately was, that was the same jacket and hat he had on. Is that Bobby Valentine?
  9. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 27, 2006 -> 09:24 PM) By the way, anyone know what number Cintron will be wearing? I assume 8. Thats what he's been wearing this spring.
  10. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 27, 2006 -> 08:13 PM) Excuse me, meant to say by Midseason.
  11. He has lapses on routine plays, but he's a very good hitter and in general a solid player. I expect him to be our starting 2nd baseman by mid-season.
  12. Call me crazy, but after listening through it in its entirity just now, I think this was by far our best show.

    Films

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 09:54 AM) I just saw it last night and yes it was a great movie. V is great, I loved him, everyone should go and see it. I saw it Saturday night and liked it a lot. Not as much action as I expected, but a very good movie. I'd recommend it. By far the best movie thats been out in a while (most everything out lately appears to be garbage).
  15. Last nights episode was pretty darn good and it looks like next weeks will be too. Seems like Tony will be back in power. Edie Falco has been amazing thus far.
  16. A Long Way Home For Kenny Williams By Mike Matha Soxtalk.com Since the formation of the American League, the White Sox have been to the World Series six times. 1901, 1906, 1917, 1919, 1959, and most recently, having won it in 2005. Through this time, the franchise has had eleven general managers, but only two were able to bring the trophy home. Harry Grabiner, a name only the truest White Sox fans would recognize, and Kenny Williams...MORE

  18. Well yesterday hurt me. I was rocking and while I was in 3rd in the ST pool I had the highest pt possibilities. That no longer exists and I'm pretty much s*** outta luck.
  19. QUOTE(SnB @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 08:52 AM) so here's a question: is soxtalk still going to have a forum like our sports pub one? Or do you want all of that talk to go into these other forums? We will. Early on we are going to try and get a lot of the bigger sports fans over to the new sites to help spurr discussion and I think most members here will notice that, but as the sites grow up (all of the new ones) they will seperate a bit more and more with each having there own unique communities and I'm sure there will be many posters that don't crossover to other sites. Early on we are using Soxtalk to help purch the other sites up, since this site has such an outstanding base. But Sports Talk will always live here.
  20. QUOTE(Felix @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 08:40 AM) How long until TalkIllini pops up? It will be a part of our next site that is built I also want to reiterate to anyone on this board thats a hockey fan. Bhawk talk is obviously ran for Hawks fans, but I want to invite any Hockey fan over to participate in the NHL forum there or the AHL forum.
  21. I'm going to close this thread. The discussion was moved over to talkbhawks.com
  22. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 12:03 AM) Very cool jas. I'm not a big hockey guy but I'll sign up anyways and learn a little bit. I also have a few hockey friends, I'll ask them if they'd like to join. Sweet. I'm going to try and learn a bit, but obviously I won't be out in the forefront when it comes to posting over there either. I don't analyze hockey and when I do its horrid.
  23. Soxtalk recently launched its expansion into the other Chicago Sports teams with TalkBulls and TalkBears. We continue our expansion on Sunday with the launch of TalkBhawks. So if you are a Hawks fan or a Hockey fan we suggest you come on by and check it out. Our goal is to create a powerful community of enthusiastic Hawks fans. The Hawks are an original six team and their core fans are passionate (just like Sox fans). However the Hawks have came onto tough times, but the season is nearing an end and despite the Wirtz reign the team has some excellent young defenders and a high draft pick coming. Please check the site out and tell any friend or family member that you know thats a Hawk fan too. Note: We also realize BlackHawkZone.com closed down this past week. If any of you were members of that board and are in contact with other members from there, please tell them to come on by and check out our new BlackHawk site out. Hopefully you all enjoy and as always we welcome any feedback or suggestions.
