  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 05:02 PM) I'll ask this....this thread has absolutely nothing to do with his Red Sox. We're all talking about the trade, and everyone is saying how much they like the trade because either a) Cintron is a very solid utility player or B) the great Baj is gone. Then, redandwhite comes into the thread, and basically rips it to shreds saying how he makes too much money, has a low OPS, how the Marlins would have traded for him, etc. It's funny, but I never thought I would be accused to causing trouble by sticking up for the White Sox. As much as their was whiny b****ing going on between myself, redandwhite, and rock, we still managed to discuss in details various aspects of this trade, etc. Considering that Jason was in the middle of this discussion talking about the trade, I thought things were resolved at the end. I disagreed with some of the arguing that was going on, but at the same time some good baseball discussion came about from Red and White, you, rock, and others. I just wish people didn't attack R&W and bring up the BoSox even when it isn't discussed. I think there is a lot of really great info and debate in this thread and while you guys argued Red Sox for a bit, I thought that while you guys obviously disagree and maybe even dislike each other, you still for the most part hammered it out with different facts.
  2. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 04:19 PM) I think in the right situation Ramsey can very much succeed in the NFL. And I think they'll end up gettin a 3rd rounder for him. Remember the Travis Henry situation? They held out for a long time, and eventually the Titans ended up giving the Bills a 3rd rounder. If the Skins can afford to hang onto Ramsey with their current cap situation, they may very well try and go down the same route here. I think a 4th or 5th will get a deal done for Ramsey. He's a solid QB and I wouldn't have a problem in that. I think he's better than any of hte QB's you would draft in that round. However, if Daunte is released I would make a full pressed effort to sign him or at least consider doing so. The guy had 38 td's in one season and would instantly become the best QB to ever play for the Bears.
  3. What channel is the Italy game on? On a sidenote, that 8th inning was a joke. Two major league hitters went swinging at garbage in between a pair of walks. Utley hammered that, what a nice catch. Still, USA better rebound against South Africa.
  4. It won't even load all the way for me. It stops like 20 seconds into it.
  5. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 03:11 PM) Well, there's no way with how you've turned out that you were going around decieving people with made up trade ideas, making up false personalities, and being an all around pain in the ass. Please tell me I'm right. Ha. But 3/4th's of the posts on here are made by one of my personalities. Safely I can say I do my best to report what I know and aside from bad grammar, I'm pretty accurate.
  6. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 21, 2005 -> 07:19 PM) Fact or Fiction: A White Sox starting pitcher will win 20 games this season. Fact....I think Buehrle will be a 20 game winner with Garcia coming right behind him and getting quite close Fact or Fiction: Willie Harris will be on the White Sox opening day roster. Fact....Regardless of Iguchi's potential, he's still unproven and because of that the Sox are going to keep Willie as a backup plan. I also am a firm believer that if dealt, Willie will have a good major league career. Fact or Fiction: Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez will toss more than 140 innings this season. Fiction. No chance in hell. Fact or Fiction: Shingo Takatsu will record more than 30 saves this season. Fact. This team has a good bullpen and he's gonna get plenty of save opportunities. He's got a nasty changeup to go with his fastball and since he doesn't depend on his velocity I tend to think he's one of those guys that can be sucessful even as he continues to get older. Fact or Fiction: Scott Podsednik will set a career high in both batting average and OBP this season. Fiction...I think he will have a good season, but he's not going to put up the rookie numbers in hitting. Fact or Fiction: Frank Thomas will play in more than 120 games this season. Fiction...unless we are adding playoff games into the mix. Fact or Fiction: Carl Everett will get more than 350 at-bats this season. Fact. Most definately. Carl is going to be a bigtime contributor and you'll see him have a very good season in a type of 10th man role. Fact or Fiction: A White Sox starter other than Mark Buehrle or Freddy Garcia will throw a complete game shutout this season. Fact. Jon Garland will as will Contreras. El Duque will not throw a complete game and the Sox would be nuts if they let him considering how fragile he is. And finally....Fact or Fiction: The White Sox will win the American League Central in 2005. Fact...they have the bullpen and lineup to do it, assuming the rotation stays healthy and Contreras and Garland can improve and pitch close to there potential, this team has staying power. Aside from my Shingo line, I was pretty on the money.
  7. QUOTE(Felix @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 03:08 PM) I've read this twice today, but I still don't believe it. Is there anything to back up your claim? Only my eyes. I don't have any 40 times, but Harris was faster than Pods and I know I've heard a few people close to the org mention that Pablo is now the fastest player on the team.
  8. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 03:06 PM) I think it was found out that that 'guy' was actually like 16 or 17 years old, a junior in high school, and living with his parents. What a dork. Whoa Whoa...that sounds like me when I was doing SoxNet. Aside from the whole dork part.
  9. Sox Bolster Bench, Deal Bajenaru By Jason Gage Soxtalk.com The White Sox acquired infielder Alex Cintron from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday in exchange for minor league reliever Jeff Bajenaru. Cintron batted .273 with eight homers and 48 RBIs for the D-backs last season...MORE
  10. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 02:52 PM) There's a quote from Ozzie Guillen back in his Marlin days stating that he thought Gonzalez was the best defensive shortstop he'd ever seen play the game. I don't agree with him, hell I don't agree with Ozzie on a lot of things, but take it for what its worth. Oh, your talking about that Alex Gonzalez. I'll shut up. I don't pay attention to the Red Sox and I was thinking of the one from the Cubs, who last I knew was on the Drays.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 02:46 PM) It's not cheap, but it's not overly expensive. There's a lot of other crappier players making more money than that. I was unhappy that Timo was making a million last year, but that's just part of the baseball landscape. Cintron isn't great AT ALL, but he's much more valuable than Willie Harris was. I think this post is right. Cintron isn't cheap, but I think he could start on at least a few teams. He also isn't overly expensive. Since people are making this comparison for some reason, I take Citron over Gonzalez. Gonzalez reminds me of Clayton in that he catches what is hit to him, but doesn't have impressive range. I don't think Citron has great range either though. Neither are what I'd call upper echelon defensive shortstop's. In fact mediocre is a term best used for either of them. Just my 2 cents. But as a bench player Citron is pretty solid. I like his offensive capabilities. Plus I was watching him a couple days ago and he was hitting the ball hard against the Mets (I think he was on Puerto Rico).
  12. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 02:41 PM) Keith, when I was going over the roster an hour or two ago, I'm came up with 23 as well. C-Pierzynski 1B-Konerko 2B-Iguchi SS-Uribe 3B-Crede RF-Dye CF-Anderson LF-Podsednik DH-Thome Bench: Widger, Mackowiak, Cintron, Ozuna, Borchard/Gload SP Buehrle SP Garcia SP Contreras SP Garland SP Vazquez CP Jenks RP Hermanson RP Politte RP McCarthy LP Cotts LP Lopez/"Competition" Winner For me, that's adding up to 25. That look about right to anyone else? That looks right. For those that thing Ozuna will be dropped, let me just point out one thing. His biggest assets are his speed and bunting ability, which is something Ozzie breaches. Cintron is not fast. He may not be slow, but Ozuna is the fastest guy on this club (Pods is not faster). One thing I'd say is that the 11th spot in the pen will be Lopez, another lefty or potentially Sean Tracey (Tim Redding as well). Borchard should be the front runner with Gload in 2nd and Owens as the sleeper.
  13. Chisoxfn replied to Steff's topic in SLaM
I can't wait. Been catching up on the past few seasons on demand (just watching them a 2nd time) and finally finished up a couple days ago. Really jacked up for a new season. Is this gonna be it?
  14. I would be shocked if Ozuna was moved...SHOCKED. Gload is the odd man out. Borchard still could be, but I don't see the Sox giving Owens the final bench spot.
  15. It said he was outrighted to Charlotte. My guess is that means he cleared waivers. I'm dissapointed because i think he was our best candidate. Not that I like any of our candidates. It seems as if Ozzie was negatively biased prior to camp.
  16. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 02:14 PM) Given what we've seen from him, do you really think he'll be "Solid"? I think he'll be an improvement over the mess they had last year, but I think "Solid" is probably the best they should hope for from Baj, given how hard we've seen him be hit. I hope I'm wrong, but he just hasn't proven it to me yet. By solid I'm talking an ERA in the 4's and I think he can do that. I don't think he'll ever be great, but I think if given a shot he'll spend a considerable amount of time in the back of bullpens at the major league level. I think it should be noted the last guy I kind of got ticked that we gave up was Majewski and he would be looking real good about right now. I think I was about the only person anywhere dissapointed when he was dealt. I don't think Baj will be as good as Maj (Maj has better stuff) but Baj will be alright, especially compared to some of the stuff the Dbacks were rolling out. I am perplexed at how quick the team dumped Munoz.
  17. QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 02:07 PM) RNW, Cintron is making $1.6 million this year. That is not a large sum of money. Technically, for the final bench spot it is a decent amount. The Dbacks saved some cash and its why they made this deal. They are also getting a guy who should be solid in there pen. That said its not excessive amount and he's a good ballplayer capable of starting if one of our guys goes down.
  18. Let me make things real easy. I've spent some time a couple different seasons in Charlotte. At the time both Gload and Borchard were there. I should make something real clear but those are about the only two players (along with Dan Wright and Arow) that were really commended for the effort and attitude they brought to the stadium each and every day. I'm not saying Bmac and other guys didn't do this, cause they weren't there long, but both Borch and Gload have spent considerable time there and both were characterized as great individuals and team players. Another name I'm forgetting was Tex (Majewski) and Hankins. And I've heard some bad stories about guys in Charlotte and I think at times its made obvious when I bring up something about those guys cause I usually am slamming them (Rauch was one of the big ones). The fact is Gload was stuck in a power position. He should play somewhere in the major leagues, but who knows if that will happen. He, nor Borchard have any sort of attitude problem. As far as Borch goes, he's one of the kindest and nicest humans around. I think Boz would attest to that as well as he's done an interview or two from the site and Borch went out of his way to say hello a day after doing an interview for our site.
  19. Got home to see this news. As one of Baj's biggest backers, I'm really happy. Not only is he going to a spot where he will be given every opportunity to establish himself as a major league reliever, but the Sox are getting a very very solid hitting infielder in return. Citron is young and I happen to think the Dbacks made some mistakes in not giving him an everyday job the past couple years. The guy has a very smooth swing (reminds me a bit of Jimenez swing with the open stance) and is decent defensively (nothing to write home about). Has some good pop for a middle infielder and will be a great addition. I also think this spells the end for Gload. The Sox have enough depth in the infield with Mack, Citron, and Pablo. When it comes bench power we have Mack (lefty), Citron (switch, more pop from left side though) and than Pablo (speed) as well as the Widge. This means that we could either go with Gload (with a team lacking some power from the right side) or Borch who has power from both sides of the plate (even though he's a better hitter from the left side). Plus while Gload has played all 3 OF positions, Borchard plays them well. He would be the #1 option of all our bench players when it came to coming in as a defensive replacement (at any of the positions). I think this deal cements Borchard as the man to get the final roster spot. Gload will be dealt soon, imo.
  20. Also, just because we are debating all conference players. I think it should be noted that Brunner scored 14.4 a game in conference to the 12.5 by Augestine in conference play. Rebounding margin stayed almost the same (9.6 to 8.9)
  21. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 09:11 PM) I'm personally dropping him because he shoots for a much lower percentage than the other forwards and from what I've seen he isn't a big factor on the defensive end. Plus his rebounding edge isn't that big (unless you count Vedran). I'd put him as a second-teamer with Davis, Vedran, Shannon Brown, and Foster (yeah, I know, no PG). I got nothing against him and I think he's a decent player, I just don't think he's as good as those other guys. Your right. He shot a lower % than Augestine, but he scored about a ppg better while grabbing down .6 boards a game better. Obviously its close, but Brunner played far more consistent night in/night out than Augestine (who seemed to have quite a few games where he would dissapear with foul trouble).
  22. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 09:03 PM) Because there are 4 forwards on the first team and only one guard. Brunner happens to be the one I'd drop out of him, Tucker, Dials, and Augustine. Brunner played superior to Augestine. I realize Augestine is more talented but I'm not dropping Brunner before Augestine. Brunner led the conference in rebounding and did a good job on the scoring end as well. I know he'll never play professionally, but the guy deserved his nomination.
  23. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 08:03 PM) There was a poll of the players in SI where the players voted on various categories, and Dee Brown was elected the best defensive player by a fairly large margin. I personally didn't have a problem with Vedran not making the first team, but he's not totally one-dimensional either. He's a great scorer, but it's hard to really judge his defense and rebounding fairly based on the defense NU plays. Their 1-3-1 zone makes it hard for them to rebound, and there's no one really attacking the basket on offense. He's also a solid passer. You can't really credit his scoring to the offense either, since it's main purpose is to spread the floor and use multiple options. They don't constantly run plays for him and he still puts up the great numbers. Personally I would have put Horton on the 1st team over Brunner. Horton had a great year, and frankly I wasn't all that impressed with Brunner. How are you replacing a PF in Brunner with a guard in Horton?
  24. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 06:38 PM) From GTech, goofy mother f***er, looks like Napoleon Dynamite, softest center in basketball history. Thats all you need to know. He looked better than most of our turds two nights ago. Nice win for the Bulls tonight.
  25. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 04:34 PM) I believe Big Ten players voted him best defensive player in the conference. HUH. Hansen was best defensive player in the conference.
