  1. Foles can not be a bridge starter on a team that is trying to make the playoffs. Not win a superbowl...but make the playoffs. Dalton can absolutely be a bridge starter on a team that contends for a playoff spot. Nick Foles is a career BACKUP. He's good at that and can have a string of games where he plays at a top 10 level, but over a full season, he is a bottom 10 QB who was a significant downgrade from Trubisky (who is a bottom 10 QB). I should caveat - I have not paid any attention to an Andy Dalton game in 3 years - so it might be Andy Dalton's game has taken steps back due to injuries and/or father time and he actually is a back-up at this point and no different than Foles. I'm assuming that isn't the case and it was rather a year ago - no one was that interested in him because the market for a middle of the road QB just wasn't that high (teams were either invested in their young QB and/or more focused on drafting an alternative).
  2. This - And I'm not in that camp. I get it - I wanted a superstar more than anyone, but this isn't anywhere near as high on the list of awful moves that were out there. There were a whole lot of moves I would have hated. I don't think this move makes you go - oh yeah - we are awesome, but Dalton > Foles and this contract does nothing to impact LT viability. I fully expect them to get a 1st round QB and/or remain active and aggressive with Wilson/Watson...but they also couldn't just sit back and do absolutely nothing. Using Foles as a starter and drafting Kyle Trask is what I would have said is the biggest disaster (if I were Pace). In this case - with Dalton they very well could remain a playoff team and just keep buying time to swing bigger at QB (or have a young QB on the way). It is all made worse because the Foles move was so bad - sucks - cause I said it a year ago. I hated it than and I still hate it now. The big piece I always hated was the fact that we were on the hook in year 2 at the price we are talking about cause it locked in the future. With Dalton - we have none of that downside and my guess is we'll see them upgrade the oline (if they don't draft a QB) and look at foundational builds and a bump-up in the defense as one strategy to buying time (Pace/Nagy). All of those items either have no impact on a future admin and/or just put a better foundation for whomever your new franchise QB eventually is.
  3. I'm not of the opinion that Nick Foles and Andy Dalton are comparable. Andy Dalton is a legit top 15-20 NFL starting QB (unless father time has caught him). Nick Foles is an above average back-up and a bottom 5 starting QB. One is not like the other. Dalton is a 9 year NFL starting caliber QB - who had winning records in 5 of those 9 years. Very definition of a middle of the pack starter. Nick Foles has never started more than 11 games. Yes he won a super bowl and got amazingly hot at one time. But in his 9 year career - only twice has he started > 50% of his teams game in any individual season. I don't like Dalton and he doesn't dramatically change the trajectory - but I don't believe he is in the same class at Foles. He isn't and he would have been a Bear a year ago if Pace didn't misjudge last years QB market and panic on Foles.
  4. I won't jump to conclusion(s) - yet. I don't think this stops them from grabbing another guy and not sure how this deal is structured. It just might mean if they get a wilson or someone else that they will need to move Nick Foles as part of that deal and quite frankly - that shouldn't be an issue. It seems like if anything - they wanted to hedge their bets - because - I get it - you can't just assume you'll get Wilson and/or have access to a top flight 1st round pick. Plus - for all of you who rip on Pace - isn't this what a new GM would have probably done anyway - bring in a bridge QB and start to churn the roster and/or make other decisions - so worse case - Pace doesn't make a big swing at a young QB and or one of the all pro's available - and it is kind of one of those - depending on health/defense/schedule this team will win anywhere from 6 to 10 games.
  5. I would say 1 - you can get another in the draft and 1 via FA. I actually think Mooney has a legit chance to be an elite wideout. Not sure it will happen but he has a TON of tools. I'd prefer to keep Arob and presume that is the path the Bears would go - but I don't love that much money tied up at wideout.
  6. There are just way too many teams in need of a QB - so even if one is more a mid 1st round or late 1st round grade, given the importance of the position in the game and the amount of teams who are in need - there is no way one falls to 20 unless they just bomb their proday/interviews/meetings with teams.
  7. Not sure how much Pace had to pay Schefter to write it - but I hope other teams view Miller that way :). He is one of those guys that even if he breaks out - it won't bother me one bit. He was never going to change on the Bears - a change of scenery is his best shot.
  8. Plus if they go the LT route - they probably can't afford Robinson.
  9. I here you - Foles was a disaster - but Andy Dalton is significantly better than Foles. While he hasn't won a playoff game - he's been a key part to a ton of playoff teams and proven himself as a full time starter. He's also proven who he is - which is a middle of the road starting caliber QB (unless father time has caught him). He clearly is not a top 10 QB (and never will be). That said - he's a heck of a lot better and more stable player than Nick Foles (Foles is a hot & cold QB who is immobile and very injury prone who has really never been a full-time starter other than his flash-in the pan with Chip Kelly). Cap wise though - having Dalton & Foles + moving up to get a QB is a bad use of cap space - but in a year it won't look so bad (cause Foles is gone in a year).
  10. I use Mac Jones - because he's probably the most realistic 1st round QB get - but you could insert any of the potential candidates there. Just think of this as being - I can be excited with any of them - because they could be amazing - they could be okay - they could be bad. But the important part is - there is at least a possibility (how probable - who knows) - that they could be elite - so that gives me something to be excited for.
  11. Yeah - the one person I follow is Riddick - and Riddick has been adamant the club will swing big. He is pretty tight with Nagy so I feel there is some info being shared there and Riddick is always careful with what he shares (rarely player specific on the Bears). For all we know - Bears are using the Wilson/Watson as a smoke-screen to keep leverage with teams they are talking with in terms of moving up in the draft.
  12. No - I should be clear - when I say Bears are going to get a QB in round 1 - it has to be them trading future picks and/or assets to move up (probably into the top 10). I think if they go with Dalton - they are basically saying we aren't going to stick with Foles - we just can't - but we also need to make a play at the future. I actually am okay with this move - it just goes back to how bad the Nick Foles move was a year ago. I think a lot of reports have been out there that a year ago - Pace panicked and got Foles. I think it was a pure reaction to missing out on Bridgewater (or some other unnamed QB) and he didn't want to not have anyone so he made a move.
  13. Winston & Fitzmagic both off the market. More and more rumblings indicating Dalton might be on Bears short list. I don't get excited about him - I guess if I'm Nagy he's a massive upgrade over any QB Bears have had since he was HC - but he is nothing more than okay - again a major step up from Foles/Mitch - but still a long ways away from anything else. I honestly wouldn't have been that upset going that route + a potential pick entering the off-season but at this point - would be so hard after having fantasties of Watson/Mac Jones/Wilson.
  14. Well - they aren't rebuilding - so I don't really think the Mack move hurt them much since reality was they weren't trading him this year anyway. On Arob - if they wanted to - they could always trade him. So I don't think they really did that much to mortgage the future - but your point on Foles has always been the case, but I think more are coming around to it - no front office/HC combo in position that Nagy/Pace is - is hitching there wagon to Foles at this point. I know there are some reports of Dalton - I guess maybe that could be true - but again - I don't see Nagy/Pace going out that way. I think they go with a Winston (who is a more upside guy than Dalton), a trade, or 1st round QB (most likely via a trade-up). All 3 of those offer real upside (yes - bust risk too) - but they all are targeted big swings at the position - which with a hit dramatically alter the direction of the franchise.
  15. Evidently some insider indicated Bears intend to add Williams and Wilson.
  16. So when their lockdown ended - what did that entail? Is that like all restaurants wide open, no masks being worn, etc? Just curious.
  17. I have no idea - but any choice Hoiberg comes back? It isn't like Nebraska has dominated and its home for Fred and seems like the timing would make sense from ISU perspective? What actually happened to Iowa State this year? Was it injuries or just a massive talent issue (i.e., they lost ability to recruit)? Its okay - Iowa will lose to Grand Canyon and be one and done.
  18. Roy Robertson Harris getting 14M guaranteed from the Jags. This should be worth a 5th round comp pick next year (depending on whether the Bears sign someone that cancels this out).
  19. I've long said I think Watson is a more likely target and the Watson market may not be as big as we think. I don't think the Dolphins are going to be as aggressive as we might think - because I think their GM's are like - hey - we have all these picks - we can take multiple swings and be even better than getting Watson. Plus - I think with Watson not moving for a while - it probably will push down prices to some extent anyway. But I also don't know that the Bears can wait that long - unless they play the game and literally don't blink. It will be interesting to see what happens with Winston / start of NFL free agency. Things are going to move fast - so I could see momentum moving towards a deal with Wilson - as I presume Bears would want to know what is going on before jumping into free agency. It also means if they like Winston - they would need to know and pivot pretty quick there as well. Now if the Bears options are really - move up and draft a QB or trade for a QB - that is a different boat - as it allows the front office more time on the decision making front. Note: Well - I hadn't saw the Taysom Hill news - I presume that puts Winston at play. The question here is - what does it say about Winston that Payton bet on the other horse?
  20. Would be nice if someone other than Lavine or Lauri showed up yesterday. This schedule coming off all star break is brutal and the one easy win should have been the first game where they got smashed by a Philly team with no Embid or Simmons.
  21. It is funny you say that - last week I have been hearing everyone ripping Eagles for giving away Wentz and just roaring about what a sweet deal it was for Colts. I still am bummed they didn’t pull that move off. Seemed like such a slam dunk - minimal risk - real upside - and if it doesn’t work out a pretty quick out. Wilson is obviously a way better and more proven qb though. Really hoping they can land him but I assume this drags into April (much closer to the draft).
  22. I read that somewhere. I know basketball has its rules around back to back 1st round picks and the like. Don’t know football as well but I read it at some point. There also have never really been a trade I can ever think of that is more than that either...but maybe I’m missing something.
  23. I think the most they can trade is 3. I might be wrong but think that is all they can do.
