Is he specifically stating Bears fans? I saw someone quoting a deal involving Roquan Smith. I am just going to sit back and wait to see what actually happens. But I also have to admit - the rumors yesterday were so one-sided in terms of what the Bears would be giving up. It was like a total no-brainer. But no - I wouldn't support 2 1st round picks - unless Bears were getting like 2 2nd rounders back or something like that - than I could probably live with it - but wouldn't love it - knowing Wentz has an injury history and thus chance he gets hurt and the team is truly awful (with no QB).

Howie roseman sounds like a disaster and I can't tell if Pederson kind of had success get to him or just couldn't stomp it out. But I certainly am not going to say Wentz is perfect either - he does sound like he has some Cutler in him - in the sense that he is going to maybe stick to his small circles when he feels uncomfortable / pushed. But that is when he's been pushed / not feeling trust - it sounds like when he is in a good place - he can be and has shown to be a pretty dynamic leader...which Jay never did (he was always the more reserved guy who was obviously not the natural leader most people think of when they think of QB's). I just think the above negative narrative has been way overplayed like you said so elegantly - his former coaches seems to think otherwise.
-
Thibs is loyal to his former Bulls. He's done a nice job with Knicks - #6 rated defense and some semblance of a real basketball squad. Thibs has his issues - but he is an excellent head coach. Sustainable HC - maybe debatable - but from a pure x's & o's & overall coaching perspective....he's so darn good.

Everyone knows where I stand on Wentz - but don't you find it interesting - that the reported teams showing the most interest are the Bears & Colts. We all know the Bears have a desperate front office / coaching staff - so we can discount that. But they also have the QB coach (Defillipo) who worked with Wentz at his best and nothing about that experience has been enough of a red flag. Similarly - the Colts have Reich as HC - who worked with Wentz at his best and they seem to be aggressively working towards Wentz. Now - I have no idea why if I'm Wentz I'd choose the Bears of Colts - so at some point - if Eagles give Wentz any consideration - I would think Wentz would lean to Colts over Bears - since Reich is HC and on pretty sturdy ground. However - the lure of a major market could be a big deal too - plus maybe staying in NFC and sticking it to the Eagles. I don't know how Wentz is motivated - but if he has any of that Rodgers edge to him - I could see him being a MONSTER next year (in as good a way as possible).
-
Your last point is spot on - he literally didn't look like he was there. Whole 2nd half - he just kind of looked like a malfunctioning robot.
-
This entirely - I don't want a bunch of lottery protected late round 1sts. Not helpful / not useful. Not for someone of Lavine's caliber. No thank you.

I thought Bmags post in the other thread was absolutely perfect. Everyone asking the Bears to do nothing - well - that isn't what is going to happen. The front office brought back Pace/Nagy for at least another year. So recognize the fact that they aren't going to just blow it all up. It isn't happening. I recognize that for most on this board - that is the only outcome that is acceptable - but you know what - it isn't happening this year. And instead of rooting for pure misery next year - I'll root the opposite and hope that the defense refinds its way to top 10, with Goldman coming back and maybe a bit better scheme. And I'll hope the franchise can maybe find a guy who can be a top 10 QB in this league at a reasonable deal - without mortgaging the future.

Geeze - rip. Gomez news came out of nowhere.
-
Yeah - i kept telling people during the week - those oline injuries were potential game changing. The backups were abused against the Bucs strong pass rush. Didn’t help that Bucs had big lead and Mahomes was forced to pass on literally every play.
-
That was a tough catch - Mahomes was pretty darn bad tonight. Pressure got to him - and he didn’t help things. Held on to ball way too long and was just a bit out of control all night. My wife kept saying he didn’t mentally look right - I agree. Easily the worst game of Mahomes career. And damn - Brady and that whole offense was fantastic as was the defense. Total domination.
-
I'm not going to lie - I am in total shock. I could have seen the Bucs win - especially with some of the Chiefs injuries - but never did i see the Chiefs look this poor offensively for 3 quarters. I want to see a game - so hopefully they score a TD here and see something interesting.
-
Really? All I saw was a bunch of Chiefs DB's holding and committing penalties on literally every possession. It was pathetic defense and incredibly undisciplined.

2020/2021 NCAA Basketball Thread

I just expect iowa bball will choke - it is what they do best. Last year was the time they didn’t and of course the tourney never happened. The long layoffs messed with their funk - and they have lost to good squads - but just sucks. -
Lavine with a stud performance last night - Williams had back to back real good games as well (which was nice to see). Williams really passes my eye test.
-
The question is - is the fact the Eagles are leaking this - them trying to drive up the price for another team - or is this just a bunch of crap.
-
This is so not going to happen. I know I am a huge outlier - but I am so giddy at the though - especially in a scenario where Bears are basically just trading back from 1st to 2nd round. For anyone who can ignore 2020 (which is just 1 year). This is Wentz from 2017-2020. Yes - I would sign up any day for the Bears to get a QB who can rank like that over a 3 year span. Its also that INT% - which he consistently barely threw - that makes me kind of ignore the 15 he threw with a horrendous oline and no WR this past year. 4th in TD% 3rd in INT% 5th in QBR 9th in YPG 8th in Wins
-
Me too - now I go look - sacked 50 times in as few games as he played. Eagles had 11 different starting lineups in 16 weeks. Oline was a disaster. Train wreck of an oline, train wreck of a HC/QB relationship, and worse receiving corps in the league....yeah - I can buy 2020 as a total aberration given all of those things. Note: I am not saying Wentz is going to be a top 5 QB with Bears - but top 10 - absolutely possible.
-
Actually - let me make things easy - Anthony Miller is probably the best wide receiver on the Eagles last season. Anthony freaking Miller. Also - in my post above - I was technically wrong - the old dominion guy was a 6th round pick who was cut by the Packers and Lions before getting to Eagles. Like I think Pace is a bad GM - but boy oh boy - how did Roseman put such a poor receiving corps out there.
-
My preference is if you give up a 1st do it now - although technically giving up only a 1st next year is better value. I just don't want a year from now to hand roster over if it was a mistake to someone who doesn't have a 1st round pick (god forbid the team is a dumpster fire and top 5 pick or something). And - if you look at the link I shared - in 2019 he was awesome in close games, awesome. He was also awesome against top 10 defenses. He was awesome in the red zone. He had one of the lowest INT ratios in the league (despite throwing the ball a ton) and he was one of the best QB's in the league on 3rd down. Basically he nailed all the major stats in 2019 - despite having in that year almost no wideouts again (since Algalor, Desean Jackson, and Alston Jeffrey were all hurt). This guy literally carried the Eagles on his back in 2019. I remember watching quite a few Eagles games that year and just watching him grit his club along. I'll also note in 2020 (switching seasons) he still ran for almost 250 yards - so presume despite some of the injuries - he still has his athleticism and arm talent. Note: If the Bears make this move - I'm franchising arob and probably drafting a wideout and 2 olinemen with my first couple of picks. I also think Nagy is probably a breath of fresh air next to Pederson. Similar systems the two run - and Wentz has made the system look real good in the past - but Nagy, while he is a lot of things, seems like a players coach. Not sure if Pederson was or wasn't - certainly didn't here many Eagles fans crying about him going - which was surprising given his super bowl win.
-
By the way - the reason why I personally think you can throw 2020 out the window for Wentz. Terrible oline, terrible weapons, and obviously an awful head coach / QB relationship. That is not to justify / make Wentz devoid from the party - but lets face the facts - it clearly had an impact. And just look at his receiving corps - he basically had Goedert or running backs to throw the ball to. He had nothing...like nothing that could stretch the field. AN up drafted rookie from Houston (who was a converted QB) from 2017 led their team in receptions at just under 50. And there next best wideout was some unknown from Old Dominion who played 3 games last year and had to start (Travis Fulgham). Oh and he too was an underrated free agent. Not to knock on updrafted free agents - but not exactly best look that your teams top 2 wideouts are complete nobodies. I mean this receiving corps makes the Bears receiving corps with Devin Hester / Johnny Knox look good. Note: The Eagles TE room was good though - so there is that. Goedert and Ertz are solid and Sanders is a decent back from the times I watched him (good YPC and decent hands). But no 1000 yard rusher. I mean seriously - go look at the Eagles roster and look at the suck Wentz was throwing to and than look at who was blocking him. No wonder he sucked ass.
-
I just want to remind people - 2019 Carson Wentz was pretty damn good. And that is before you factor in the shit talent and oline he had to deal with. I have no clue what happened in 2020 - but It isn't like 2017/2019 Wentz didn't happen. No Bear QB in my lifetime has ever put up a season like either of those years. Just read this article - he was top 5 in NFL in TD's and had few INT's all while no one even knew the names of the guys he was throwing to most of the time. https://www.discussthegame.com/posts/5f2587350b0cf30004326d7a

There is nothing that bad about the move. If it works - you have a QB at a very fair deal. If it doesn't - a new regime comes in next year and your draft a QB or whatever they want to do. Not that bad of a set back. Now when it turns out Bears are giving up a 1st plus another 1st or something - whole nother story. If it is Wentz & a 2nd for Foles, 1st, and Anthony Miller - I'd say that is a pretty damn good deal. But I'm a Wentz fan (other than this past year). He's been a top 10 QB in the league pretty much every year but this past year. That is a HUGE fricking upgrade from anything the Bears have had in a long time. And just look at the Eagles offenses these past few years. Weak wideouts, injuries, horrible oline play...the list goes on and on. Last year it finally ruined Wentz - the key is that Bears have to hope it was more of a one year ruin where he can turn things around pretty quickly. I'm betting yes and if I'm wrong - who cares - it doens't set the franchise back at all.
-
And if it doesn't work - the team can pretty quickly rebuild and pivot.
-
Well - I guess Cohen pulled all of his posts from his instagram page. Does that mean there is some real smoke to this? Also - I don't do instagram so no idea if that is true or just BS.
-
That said - I always figure if rumors are out there - deal isn't anywhere near close and we'll see another team swoop in. Very rarely the team with all the smoke is where they end up going. Look at the Rams and Stafford and how quickly that went down.
