Wasn't the Majestic with Jim Carey?
  2. I realize they aren't that easy, so I Try not to get into the resources Evans did or didn't have. Who is to know whether he could of signed Vladdy but he never got the approval (I for one don't buy that, because Vladdy and his people have long said they wouldn't go to the Dodgers, but they also said they chose Anaheim because its a smaller town and thats what he likes). Your right, he probably isn't a terrible gm, I do think everything a gm does should be for the wins (Whether its acquiring a top prospect to help set your foundation for a playoff caliber team in a few years or to acquire a star at the risk of a top prospect because your going to be fighting for the series). But while Evans improved the team, I don't really know how the team could of been any worse off then they were just a few years ago. I think to truly assess Evans, he would of needed a time when he actually had the ability to make some signings. I think the biggest reason I didn't like him, was this offseason and how he backed himself into a corner (Then again, ownership may of never allowed him to make any move). I'll say this though, I believe Depodesta will do a solid job in LA, although I doubt he will be as good as JP Rippaldi is. And Rex, I definately see where your coming from and what your saying makes sense. But I just never liked the type of moves Evans made, although I give him credit, cause Alvarez, Martin and a few others panned out. But I don't believe that Evans would of ever led the Dodgers to the World Series. I have no idea if Kenny will either and some of it really is out of the General Managers hands cause a lot of things can happen.
  3. The team I like a whole lot is Pitt. I'll also continue to root for Stanford and St. Josephs. Stanford runs such a quality program, I'd love to see them win it all. Although I still think Iowa is going to sneak their way into a hot streak and may bust into the tourney this year (FINGERS CROSSED)
  4. Everything seems to be quiet. But the Aaron McKie for JYD deal is supposed to be the most likely to go down. The other rather likely deal would be the Giricek/Fizer deal with the Bulls also getting Tyron Lue and Shammond Williams. Gabriel recently said that Giricek wasn't on the market, but I don't know about that. I also have read a few places that Crawford is gone, but like we were talking about yesterday that would go the opposite of what Paxon has been hinting.

Enemy at the Gates is an awesome movie.
  12. Well, it will help baseball in one way (also hurt it) but it will potentially lead to another big time labor war and this time the owners may be together enough that they can really start getting the payroll in order.
  13. See, I don't got a problem with rebuilding, but if the Dodgers are going to go that direction, then they should go that direction. Guys like Nomo won't be around at that time, so you should get value for them, clear your payroll, gives those younger playres the shot, keep the better players that will be around when the team is ready and then be ready to make a splash in FA in a year or two. But if your going to have guys like Nomo, etc around who aren't going to be there in the 2-3 years it will take for the Dodgers to rebuild properly, then I don't see the point in keeping them around. I just think Evans always had one foot in the door and one foot out the door the entire time. Now teams can rebuild and be competitive at the same team, but in the Dodgers instance, they have to know that there is no way that pitching staff is going to duplicate what it did last year so if they were going to go for it, then would of been the time. I also think it was foolish for them to stick with Tracy who along with Manuel is one of the worse managers in the game. Of course if I ran the Dodgesr I'm not going to say they would be great, but they seem to be playing for 2nd place and I'm not a proponent of that, unless you have a young up and coming team. I say you either are building a team to get to first, or you doing all you can to get your team into first. Some years, your not going to be doing enough, but your mindset should always be on getting there, sometimes taking 2-3 years to get the foundation reset and get the payroll back in control, ridding yourselfs of bad contracts (Which Evans did well at times) but then at the same time, he'd go out and spend money on getting players and it always had me (I'm the minority thinking) are you trying to win this or rebuild cause in this situation, you really can't do both.
  14. Ashby is the guy I'd go after. He is a quality individual who when healthy is a very solid pitcher. He was healthy late last season with the Dodgers and slowly was getting back into the swing of things. Whether his arm holds up, who knows, but I'd take a chance on him, considering Person is no longer an option. Astachio wouldn't be bad either.
  15. And lets not forget the man, Bob Fontaine...he'll be greatly missed, imo. Bavasi is lucky to have him back on his staff. The Mariners seems to always have a very good front office.
  16. See I disagree on that because the only credit I will give Evans is the hiring of Bavasi, who I will credit for building that farm system. He built the Angels farm system and put the Angels in position to win the series and then he quickly went to work in the Dodgers system. Now Bavasi will excell as the Gm of the Mariners (mark my words on that). By panic moves, I consider giving up two top prospects for Shuey a panic move (Although Shuey is a very solid reliever). I also consider giving up some pretty good prospects for Tyler Freaking Houston a panic move. This past trade deadline he did a little better, but at the same time the Dodgers had the best pitching staff in baseball and if there was every a time to make an agressive move to put you over the top and get you in the playoffs, then would of been that time, but the Dodgers passed and get Ventura and Burnitz. Those weren't horrible deals, but they weren't the kind of moves that would of made the Dodgers winners. Then this offseason they deal Brown for Weaver, not bad I guess, cause I think its good to get rid of Brown's contract, but I also question Weaver (Although I'm probably one of his biggest supporters, lol). I also question this team having so much faith in guys having career years. I'm sorry, but I don't see Alvarez duplicating last years numbers nor do I see Nomo doing what he did much longer (I give him a lot of credit though). I've never had faith in Dreifort and I think their pen will be quite a bit weaker this year. And the fact that they have still, not added a leadoff hitter (by far their biggest need) angst me. Sorry Dave Roberts, but you proved last year that you can't handle the leadoff spot. Roberts would be a solid pickup for a team like the Sox, who have some thunder in the middle, but for a team lacking any offense (minus Shawn Green) you need to have guys get on and Alex Cora and Itzuris sure don't do it. Beltre hasn't done it on a consistent basis (They tried to deal LoDuca multiple times this offseason, one of their only on base type guys) and Dave Roberts sure didn't do it. Now this year they are going to have Alan Trammel in left last I saw. And they still have nothing up the middle (Although I like Itzuris and he is tremendous defensively; but Cora blows as a starter). You can say he had his hands tied, but I can also say if he doesn't want Perez, then he should of non tendered him and used that 5.5 mill or so Perez got and put it towards two offensive players or even Carl Everett and someone like Roberto Alomar Jr. They could of spent that money, while losing a pitcher, they do have the youngsters, and then would of had a left fielder with some pop as well as a 2nd baseman that could really provide a spark (especially when motivated, plus he's better then Cora; we know I'm not a huge Alomar fan thougH) and then if he got the approval, added someone like Fullmer to play first base or even went after Travis Lee. They then have Encarnacion in center, Green in right, Everett in left; Beltre at 3rd; Itzuris at SS; Alomar Jr. at 2nd; Fullmer/Lee at 1st and LoDuca behind the plate Its a balanced lineup, has solid defensive players, some speed, some pop and it wouldn't of really added their payroll at all. And none of these moves would of been difficult and they wouldn't have any long term contracts at hand because Everett got a 2 yr deal, Alomar a 1 yr deal and Lee a 1 yr deal. Instead they are still trying to pan Perez off to whoever will take him (allegedly). Evans sat around when their were moves to be made to better what was an absolutely atrocious offense that needed multiple bats added this offseason, pronto. For doing things like that and having his hands tied by others, I will not give him much credit.
  17. I'm not a big Rosenthal fan and while I think this is a solid piece, I still can't blame JR/Kenny for not giving Gordon or Colon the money they got. I also think the Sox are going to surprise some people. I blame JR for a lot of things, I think the biggest flaw is his public image. I don't blame him for not being willing to lose 15 mill a season (heck, whats has that gotten the Dodgers lately) but I do think he gets himself into this with all the pr nightmares the Sox have. Stop telling the fans to come, simply market things well and when a team has a shot, go out and make the move (I think they did that last year and I still don't know how this team didn't make the playoffs, let alone get to the series - Thank You Jerry Manuel and others). And Rosenthal better realize a lot of those bad contracts will be coming off the books and next year the Sox will have some room to add some players, the problem is they may lose Ordonez, something I fear, especially if they get nothing for him, since I don't think they will offer him arbitration. What the Sox need to do is make Ordonez a player that will go above and beyond their resources. He is one of the 5 best right fielders in the game and deserves to be paid fairly. Now his demands right now (Well the reported ones) aren't fair, but keep working and get a 3-4 year deal in place. Koch, he's probably gone, same with Jose after the season as well as a few others possibly. Of course then you have the issue of re-upping with Elo, which could be difficult if he duplicates next year. All I know is the Sox are going to have to win this year, or this team is going to be completely blown up and will be starting over.
  18. Evans somewhere in the minor league development, yes. Anywhere near a GM role, NO. Evans didn't have the cohonies to be a GM. He was afraid of his own shadow and in the end thats what got him, imo. I'm around a ton of Dodger fans and I don't know any that like them. Although I know my dad gives him a little respect for not giving up the stud prospects.
  19. That was a solid show. Wouldn't have a clue what her name is and Aboz I'm going to go with michael Jackson.
