I'm sure he couldn't do it, but for cripe sakes these are basically kids. Two of them women (Both 20 or so) and then a 16 year old boy. What the hell is Simon, a millionaire even thinking. I guess I have to wait until I see a highlight of this. Stupid sportscenter didn't show it during the game highlights. That or I missed it. Well at least I'd have him suspended for 10 games (MLB Rules) without pay.
-
The Pirates have no choice but to put Simon on waivers and I'd hope no team would pick him up for at least this season. That is absolutely ridiculous. These guys are just working part time jobs and I doubt they make all that much. I guarandamntee its nowhere near what you made Simon. If I were a judge I'd say that Simon's contract has to get paid to the guy who was hit by Simon.

Were talking about JB. Jose Lima was a former 20 game winner (I think) and was a heck of a pitcher for a while. JB was never that.

Well I'd hope Gallas would be ousted and they'd get some minds that came in and told JR, spendinga little money can make you money. In this case getting an international superstar could be huge. Chicago is a huge market and with the exception of Hep Sep Choi they don't have any Asian professional atheletes. Not many cities do, but Chicago has a very good Asian market and it would be awesome for the Sox to tap into it. Lets also remember it gets Sox games televised in the players country and it gets a lot of international Sox fans which is an awesome thing to have. Trust me, there is a great business in international merchandise sales. Plus the Sox could put together a travel agency in a sense where they get referral fees from hotels they recommend as well as with airfares. They could have packages priced out to assist people from Asia to fly over to Chicago, stay for a series and see three games. They make money and they also make a lot of new fans. Think, you want to become the best team in Chicago again and start drawing. Well first off you want to win, but second find ways to tap into new markets and come out with a new stance. Get JR out there saying and admitting to his mistakes (Whether he believes he made them or not; Who gives a damn just say it and start running things different; I'm not saying spend a ton of money either). There are just so many things you can do. Offer season ticket holders a metro pass for each month or week that the Sox are in town (FOR FREE). This way they have a great way to get to the stadium (Even if they don't make the money on parking). Also extend the half price nights to season ticket holders, unless they already get discounts. I'd also tend to dump half price nights and just lower tickets prices for every night. Thats just me...I think half price nights take away the market. Most people will say screw going to this game, we'll just go on half price night and they will keep going those nights while staying away other nights, unless a good team is in town. Also, more fireworks..more fireworks...more fireworks and of course the most important thing...WIN and SHOW EFFORT. This year the GM showed effort. I've never seen a Sox team make all the moves this one did. It may not pay off, but damn it they tried and I won't forget that.

we cant spank the worst teams in the league and you want to get on one of the better ones in our division??? we need to step back and regroup on this one.......if the team is gonna take the attitude of getting fired up for the good teams then it had better take that same attitude against the lousy ones too.....and from where i sit i just dont see that happening........ Sox have a winning record against winning teams (I think 7 games over .500) They are 11 games under .500 against losing teams. and if we cant beat some of those losing teams then beating the winnings wont matter much...........each game counts....... Ya...its great that the Sox can beat good teams, but that don't mean crap cause playoff teams have to take care of the bad teams. The Sox aren't gonna get a shot to play the good teams when it counts, unless they start beating up on the bottom feeders. Here's the question. Maybe I'm wrong, but isn't a big job of the manager to get guys up for each and every game? I know at lower levels it is (Little League, High School, etc) but in the minors and majors is that still the case. I've heard conflicting things. Some say once it gets to that point the players have to motivate themselves because the players just get sick if the coach is always giving a rah rah type stance, etc. Still I have to think their is something a manager could do, like always putting pressure on guys, telling them they can do better. No matter what lay things out for each player telling them what to improve. Also give them some positive feedback, but tell them hey were the coaches and were here if you need us. Its our job to get you guys prepared, but we can't do it without your help. Therefor were here for you whenever and at times we'll come up to you and work on things. You need to get better at bunting, come into the office. If you don't lay them down then I'm going to come to you and say hey, you didn't get that bunt down. Those things have to be done. After the game lets work on it and do so for the next week or so. Am I completely wrong with this thinking? I've never been a manager at in any case, but this is just my thinking.

Or Koskie Well Rex, I'm glad some of us can look past Frank as being the only guy hosed I mean I'm a huge Frank fan, but the more I look at the numbers there were quite a few guys deservent that didn't get in. Ya Frank is playing at home, but I'd want to get into the game because I had the numbers, not because it was a courtsey for being at home. Like you said the roster was expanded, things were changed and he still didn't get in. Enough said. Frank hits in the first month or two with runners on base and theres no doubt he's an all star. And I don't want to hear no one was on base, there was a long while when Jimenez had around a .400 OBP.
-
Or Koskie Mueller and Blalock are both hitting in the .320's (I think thats what I read). Koskie is good too. I could give a damn about how the twins our the Sox rivals. I'd trade the way the Sox play with the way the Twins play any day of the week. Now thats a type of team I love. You see those guys, they are always picking eachother up, etc. What happened to the Sox. Back in 2000 they were like that but then they forgot who they were or something? I'd say if things don't work out soon, quite a few guys will have to go. Also I have no problem with acquiring Alomar/Everett only to sell them for prospects later on. KW madeh is case to put the team over the top and if they keep thinking games are on paper then its going to be his job to move guys and get ready for next year, imo.

Ian was telling me I should of changed it at the last second and cahnged it to A Deeper Look: Blowing the Sox Up. I kind of had an article like that a while ago when I called for a complete overhaul and I will say this. If by July 25th this team is still 4 or more out, then Williams really has to look long and hard. You can get something for guys like Everett, Alomar and Colon and most likely those three would walk. Also if they could free up payroll by moving Lee, Jose or Konerko then that would be wise too. I know its giving up a lot, but the Sox would have quite a bit of money and could bring in a new shortstop (A good one; this is one position I think its wise to invest money). Then they can resign Daubach to play 1st/dh with Konerko and sign a real centerfielder or left-fielder (You can always find one of these guys for a relatively decent price). Then make a push at Ponson (Maybe do it now with the thought of keeping him long term). You'd give up this year, yet still be more then ready to compete next year iwth a much different look. They could also lock up Esteban and Buehrle. Koch is another guy they could move.

I heard the next one may not be until PS3. Quite a few game makers have started development on games for PS3 and it will be out early in 2005 I think. But odds are that would more likely be Xmas of 2005 or Xmas of 2004 (Say October or November)
-
Well it was about 85 degrees out here. GOt off work at 1 Played whiffle ball and then some baseball and then basketball for a couple hours at night. Damn this is when the weather is perfect
-
K we agree. Lets overtake the sox and deal Lee and Konerko for some players who can pitch, defend and run. Of couse, we are going to need to add more than those two players to get decent players in return, but im all for it. I'm with you. I'm more then willing to get some more complete guys on the team. Get some high obp guys that can do a lot of things. I'm also big on adding more and more pitching. I want a deep staff and a pen where I could say I'm comfortable with every guy in there. This team is close. The Sox are going to have holes at 2nd, ss, and CF next year. Harris and maybe Rowand could replace, but I don't know if thats the best way to do things. Not gonna keep Robbie? I could keep Robbie, but I think their could be better ways to spend the money. Plus I think they could just take hte picks for him cause someone will offer him money. I'm very intrgiued with adding the shortstop named Matsui. That is one guy that the Sox would be really smart to sign. Simply signing him would be a huge BOOST to the market and all of a sudden if he plays like many think he can, the Sox would have one of the most marketable players in baseball. We all know international players can really help a teams fan base grow. To me it would be a good investment. Although it is a risk to float something like 6 mill a year for a guy that has yet to play in the majors. He's supposed to be an absolute stud though. If the Sox got him, then I'd just settle for one of the in house 2nd baseman or even Jose (For Cheap, like a mill).
-
Mueller was really hosed. I said earlier that its a joke that Glaus is in there. Fans should never of voted him in over Blalock or Mueller.
-
I'd say he's much better then Hernandez. Varitek should of been in there to being with and Molina should of been the only catcher on the ballot. Thats just my two cents.
-
I think we all know I still believe they can do it.
-
I think he was playing when they were 2-7, then they realized it wasn't good to have Heads as the starting pitcher for every game. Then the winning streak was a coming Thats sweet news on Sweeney. I know he is going to sign, I thought he was going to finish the highschool season before hand. The Sox must of stepped up there offer.
-
Ya, after double checking I realized that I heard something wrong on Varitek. I have no problem with him making the game. I do think Molina was snubbed, but to say Varitek isn't deserving would be wrong. I also think that Giambi had numbers that would get him in over Frank. The only thing is since its being played in Frank's home stadium you would expect the close call to go to the hometown guy.

That was great. I love Dave Chapelle.

The Boys of SoxNet Calendar Hey, what about my idea for the girls of Soxnet calendar that i came up with last month I only have Heather hooked up but its gonna cost us a few hundred thousand..I already put down $10.. I thought about that one too. You had a good idea with that I dunno, I think I can work Heather into posing for free
-
I don't ever give up. I get frustrated but I know this team can do it. The talent is there, I think they are selfish and such. Thank goodness I'm back to working on a new minor league feature. Thinking about the dissapointment in the Sox makes me sick. Like I've said for a while this team is great on paper, but they have to take that paper and throw it in the trash and play their games on the field no matter how bad a team is.
-
If this team is more then 4 games back by July 25th, then KW should start shopping.
-
Like I told a few people, I have came up with a great idea for SoxNet. The Boys of SoxNet Calendar
-
I really think we need to stop worrying about the all star game and start worrying about the Sox.
-
Ya...although I still believe moving some of the DH type guys like Konerko and Lee would really give the Sox a different landscape. It would get some speed consistently in the lineup (Harris/Rowand) and they would have much better defense. As I type this Alex Sanchez makes an awesome catch in center.
