Since when? I remember Maggs playing center and doing an adequate (at least) job. He has the speed and the arm for it. I can see no reason Maggs couldn't play CF in a pinch. He could play there in a bind, but it wouldn't be pretty.

I'm one of the Miles scepicts. Yes, he had great numbers last year, but I ask where were they all the previous years. Hummel put up some very good numbers down at AA himself and he didn't spend 8 years in the minors. In AAA, Tim had his struggles, but he still came on strong at the end of the season and then went on to have a very productive Arizona Fall League. Miles has yet to see AAA and he's already been in the minors for so long. If this kid was in fact so great, I'd think he would have already shown glimpses long before. Of course there are the rare ocassions when a player gets overlooked or the light turns on late, if thats the case and Miles puts up similar numbers in AAA, then he will have earned his shot, but until then, I will list Harris and Hummell both ahead of Miles. I also put Edwin Yan ahead of him, only because I think Yan is going to become a very good player, but thats me just going off a hunch. I love his speed and I think if he develops his bat, then he'll be good.

cant you pick up the wciu games on the other teams station??? Sometimes, but most of the time they don't do it that way, for some reason. I think in the long haul, I get like 130 Sox games, but don't quote me on that.

I don't like the DH. I think its good and bad, but all in all I like to see more strategy used, and I think you get that with the National League style of play.

....yeah, except I know if I send this message to some of my buds back in nyc, they are so dumb they may actually believe this article is legit.....lol.... here's to a great 2003 for our beloved sox!!! Welcome Aboard DaSoxRox. Glad to have ya here and I'm with ya on the Sox having an awesome season!!!

It looks more and more likely that it will be Colon starting on opening day cause the Sox have a great shot at landing Kenny Rogers, and Manuel wants to split up the lefties. Think of it this way. Rogers is a soft tosser with a ton of experience, I think he could teach Buerhle a bit more things. He also has good numbers against the Twins and teams that face Rogers and Colon will see soft tosser that mixes pitches and then Colon the guy with gas. Then if they also face Buerhle, you go to a lefty that also throws softer, but has different pitches.

I just can't get over the fact of how great this contract is. The owner can't pocket the money or anything, it has to be spent to improve the team. Secondly, its a Chicago Based company and is ran by a Sox fan.

I'm so sick of seeing the so called vet Corie Blount out there. The guy makes so many freakin mistakes.

The main goal is definately developing players. Still, I agree with Hudler that winning is every bit as important. You need to teach the team concept throughout the minors and when players enjoy winning and get used to it, it can carry over. You don't want someone whose always on the losing end of things, because sometimes they really don't care. This doesn't happen with everyone, but does happen with some. I think the Sox are blessed with some pretty good minor league coaches, especially Backman.

Hassell was my favorite player all of last season. Now he just doesn't cut it. I don't want to dump him, but I'd put him in Hoiberg's role; limited minutes off the BENCH.

In the very last sentence were you referring to Guerrier or Munoz? Thanks for all your comments on those prospects. I liked Guerrier in spring last year. I was angered when they dealt him for Marte and Edwin Yan, but in retrospect it looks like a good move. Marte is filthy while Yan has amazing speed and could turn into a pretty good 2nd baseman, although he has a ways to go. I was referring to Munoz. I like Guerrier a lot. I still think he will be a solid big league pitcher and his numbers last year were very misleading. Would these numbers be acceptable?? The won-loss record could be better, but those numbers work for me. Games Started 23 W-L 7-8 ERA 3.09 IP 140 Hits 115 BB 38 K 116 For what it is worth, those are Guerrier's 2002 numbers minus 4 starts. He had four horrible starts, and yes, I understand that every start counts. However, I'd rather have a guy who pitches great 23 out of 27 times and horribly four times, than a starter who is just average all year long. I'd definately accept those numbers. Inning wise it isn't too bad, maybe a little less for Munoz. Guerrier was really good. He struggled last year in Pittsburgh, but I wouldn't count him out yet. I'd also like to see more K's, but the walk rate is very low.

God, for a second ya scared me toasty

Detroit hires him and are giving him a ton of money. I suspect he'll be the GM within a year. Until then he will have some say in personell moves. Good move by the Lions, but they were desperate cause they gave him way too much money. Now the Niners can afford to give Dennis Green the money, but I sure hope they just go with the cheap candidate, Blache.

Hopefully all is working now. Sorry it took me so long to see this.

This is there 2nd straight over time game, on the road, and on back to back days. They looked pretty good in the 2nd half. I still think Jamaal is a far superior player to Jay Williams, but I'm going to be more patient. I remember how bad Baron Davis was his first year. Then he worked his tail off in the offseason and come back a superior player and one of the best point guards in the league. I think Williams has the heart and talent and I do believe the work ethic is there. If he can make a big step this offseason and over the rest of the season, then I think the Bulls will be ready to compete next year. I also believe Eddie Robinson should become the starting 2 guard with Jamaal Crawford getting plenty of minutes there as well, ocassionally playing with Jay Will. It would be nice having a lineup with Rose, Jwill, and Crawford. All can handle the ball, create there own shot, and create shots for others. Scrap the triangle too. The Bulls should become a running team. Curry is getting way too big and looks like he needs to get more cut and in better shape. Tyson is looking good, but still needs to add muscle this offseason. Next year will be fun to watch, mainly because I think Jwill, Jamaal, and Tyson will all really improve. I'm holding out that we acquire Kwame for Eddy before the deadline.

In the very last sentence were you referring to Guerrier or Munoz? Also, do you get to watch quite a few Birmingham games? Thanks for all your comments on those prospects. I liked Guerrier in spring last year. I was angered when they dealt him for Marte and Edwin Yan, but in retrospect it looks like a good move. Marte is filthy while Yan has amazing speed and could turn into a pretty good 2nd baseman, although he has a ways to go. My point is on Munoz stamina...... Of course he is going to run out of gas after a certain point if you never use him or train to go past that point. He pitched effectively several times for three innings and four once or twice. Never did they ask him to go longer than that, so no one should expect him to be able to pitch 7 innings. You have to build up to that, ala they way they work starters in ST. I guess technically the fact that he didn't have the stamina is correct, but if you don't ever give the guy an opportunity or work him up to that, then you expect him to drop off after so many pitchers. It shouldn't be a surprise. My very last sentence was that I liked to watch that guy pitch. I was referring to Munoz, but it would apply to Guerrier as well. I agree with you on the stamina issue. In general I feel that is something you can build. From what I have heard from you as well as Jim Bullard Munoz can throw a couple innings and do it with ease. If he's getting tired after 3 or 4, then thats pretty good considering he's not a starter. Plus, at such a young age, his body still is developing so he could easily add stamina if they decide to make him a starter and gradually stretch him out. The one thing they need to be very careful on is how they start off his season. He needs extra rest considering the heavy workload he had this year in Winter League and the minors. If they start him, I'd suspect he wouldn't become a starter till mid season or so. I think he can do it though. Either way, I think he's going to make a fine pitcher and the Sox will see him next year if he's a reliever; a little longer if he's a starter. Once again, thanks for all this info Hudler.

Its because Harris is the only one capable of playing centerfield on the bench if Borchard isn't there. Daubach can play left or first, and I guess 3rd if necessary. Rios can play right or left, and I guess center in a bind, but he's terrible out there defensively. Maggs can't play center. Harris will also be the back up 2nd baseman incase Jimenez struggles. If Jose really stinks and Jimenez does real good, then you could see Jimenez move to short with Harris taking over the 2nd base spot and Manos moving to the bench.

Speaking of Rowand, have you heard anything about how his situation is progressing? He's supposed to be 80% at the start of spring training.

signs was f***ing awesome too. I don't think he can make a movie I won't like right now. I'm with you. Signs was awesome, Sixth Sense was awesome and Unbreakable was cool. I was never into comics, but that was just a cool movie.

A month or two ago, they had a picture of what the stadium would look like and it had this sweet homer porch in left(I think; maybe it was right). They also had all this other stuff and the park was looking sweet. Like a day later they pulled those images and went with other ones. They have wanted to build one for a while, but never have been able to because JR said they needed a corporate sponsor. Now that they have one, I expect one to be built. I'm assuming they'll announce plans in a while for next years changes.

If the rumors that Jerry Manuel all but guaranteed Daubach a roster spot are true, I don't think there will be any space on the Roster for Borchard. I think Borchard will start the season on the farm, and maybe by the All Star break, if it appears as if one of our OFers is incompetent, then he'll get the callup. I'm thinking Rowand will start the season on the DL, with Harris the backup centerfieler. The most likely scenario is Rowand starting with Harris backing up or Harris starting with Rowand backing up while he gets to 100%.
