Sorry this MLB.com quote is funny
Its also the same KW that acquired Damaso Marte, one of the best young left relievers in the majors as well as Edwin Yan. Its also the same KW that acquired D'Angelo Jimenez, our leadoff hitter/2nd/ss of the future that is a very very talented player that is going to do real good things for the Sox. Its also the same guy thats built a tremendous farm system and got us Willie Harris for Chris Singleton. He also got us Felix Diaz, one of the premier pitching prospects in the majors when healthy for KENNY Lofton. Ya..the Durham deal stunk and the Ritchie one stunk (Not as bad as everyone thinks it did though), but hey, I see more nice deals than terrible ones. Of course many also consider the JB deal that netted us Majewski and got rid of Baldwin bad as do most consider the Clayton deal bad. I consider those even deals, and I also consider the Boomer deal an even one. You can't rip that one or the JB one cause we didn't give anyone up that did anything special or really anything at all. The Clayton one I can see as a negative, because of the clubhouse problem, plus KW already admitted it a mistake. Then there is the Osuna deal which was a good deal. Oh ya then there was the awesome Colon deal!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry this MLB.com quote is funny
Two things I never thought I'd read in print except for in a sarcastic font color. this is from baseball perspectives by Mike Bauman. You can read the entire article here I love hearing it. When I see him in spring training (The past two years he's been there, so I figure he will be there this year) I'm gonna have a nice talk with him. Last year I told him the Ritchie deal stunk, this year I'm giving the man a compliment.

CF'ers / Leadoff
Jimenez will leadoff. As far as centerfielders go, Jose Cruz and Orlando Palmerio are about the only options out there. I like the idea of signing Pudge and then going with this lineup Jimenez Pudge Thomas Ordonez Konerko Caballo Manos Crede Rowand/Harris

Minor League Preview - Charlotte Knights
I'm with ya Cerb. I still think we have the best pitching organization in the majors, along with the Anaheim Angels. The Cubs are pretty good too, but almost all of theres are at the lower levels, while the Sox have a very good mixture.

Jay Williams
Well, whats everyones take on him so far. I can't label him a bust yet, although I never wanted them to draft him, but I would say if the right offer is there I'd trade him. On a side note, lets say were picking #4 or so next year, you think we could package Jay and the 4 for Lebron? Me, I'd make a trade.

Hawkeyes Drop Illini
Just wanted to quickly Say GO HAWKEYES. I was shocked to see them pull the upset. Alford is a heck of a head coach (I think he's one of the best in all of college basketball) and he's doing an amazing job so far with a less then perfect squad. Go Hawks Go!!!!!!!

Commentary: A Big Piece Added, but Not the Last
i wonder what mr showtime has to say. i may have missed his comments yesterday, since he been right the last several yrs. Ya...its easy for a pessimist to be right when he talks about the Sox. I do know he's excited for this trade. Somewhere on the board he started a thread with his take. And optimistics like me, were usually wrong but NOT this year!!!

Server Being Upgraded Today
maybe that was why i couldn't log in this morning for about 1 hr. Thats probably the case. I know it was supposed to happen in the morning and then they would be making minor changes to it the rest of the day, ones that we shouldn't even notice.

White Sox transactions
As far as your post. I love the idea of getting Palmerio and Pudge and calling it quits. One thing, if I recall Rios signed his deal for like 300 k or something along those lines and as far as Flash goes, look for a mill, maybe some incentives that could bring it to 1.5 mill. Remember, since the Sox were never obligated to these players, they can offer them any % of a pay cut. Those terms only apply if you offer a player arbitration or something along those lines. Don't quote me on this though..I ain't a rules expert. when is the draft? i would wait until the draft is over and then go out and get some other fa's. Draft isn't till like June or something like that.

Colon.......
I'm hoping he's one of those guys like Ryan and Clemens that can keep it up for a long time. I think he's got an amazingly strong arm. Of course Rocket and Nolan both stayed in phenomenal shape.

Commentary: A Big Piece Added, but Not the Last
I'm raising my HAND!!!!!! I picked them to make the playoffs and when the series picks came out I picked them to win it all, I just had the number of games out!!! I was one of the few though. I didn't pick them to win it all at the beginning of the season, but I did say they would make the playoffs. Still, the Sox do have holes and I'm loving this idea of bringing the Pudgster in. By the way, great article Matt. It did a nice job putting things in perspective.

Server Being Upgraded Today
Just wanted to quickly inform you that the server that runs Soxtalk.com is undergoing some maitenance today. It shouldn't have much of an effect on things, other then the board may load a bit slower then usual. Once everything is done it should be running even faster.

Is that enough for MTL's cost cutting
They still need to dump some payroll.

From Rozner's column....
Mario...I didn't read your post, but it sure looks like I did, because what I said and what you said was like the same damn thing. I know one thing, remember when we got CJ late a couple years ago, well Pudge is way better then him, offensively and defensively and we could get him for a full year. Just one year, nothing more. He gets to play for a winning team and in this offense he'll have great protection for a monster season. The Sox can also ocassionally give him time at DH. Then Olivo, who hasn't ever played in AAA, can start the season there, eventually moving up when Alomar goes down. Once Alomar goes down, look for him to be signed up as a coach for the Sox next year (Just my hunch)

From Rozner's column....
it didnt make sense to sign sandy but it does make sense to sign IROD even after signing sandy...im putting sandy's done for the year mark at may 15th...from that point on its olivo and paul......please tell me this rumor is true and we are after IROD...balt offered him in the 'hood of 6 million i believe...sox can afford that I'd give him a one year deal so he can test the market later. Then Olivo can learn under one of the masters. He could also adjust and get some time in AAA and then come up once Alomar goes down. I couldn't possibly believe this, but why would he possibly mention someone like Pudge, cause it isn't like Sox fans have really talked about him. We just figure we are going to go with Olivo. I'll say one thing, if we sign Pudge, put him in the 2 hole with Jimenez leading off. Pudge is a sweet 2 hitter, imo.

The official KW appreciation thread
I can buy into that Michelle.

Colon.......
Colon is a real solid guy in the clubhouse and he's a damn good pitcher. I'm with Mario, I think they will learn from his actions. He's a real strong pitcher, that plays with heart and really just gets better as the game goes on.

Minor League Preview - Charlotte Knights
Almonte is a Righty. Thanks for the feedback. From now on I'll make sure to include that info. I'll also put the age there.

Minor League Preview - Charlotte Knights
What can I say...esp The real reason was, I didn't think of him as a key guying making the next step and I kind of wondered whether he would be coming up to AAA.

what about jeff suppan???
I'm not picking Halama over Suppan. Just saying it will likely come down to money. Suppan would be a real good pickup. I strongly believe Rauch will be a very sucessful five, but I like the idea of having 6 guys that can start. You can never have a problem with too much pitching.

Kordell Stewart probably released by Pittsburgh
I totally agree, the Bears need 3 real QBs, so why not start with one that has actually been to a Super Bowl and knows how this whole winning concept goes. Welcome Aboard Soxie Girl...I'd like to see 3 real qb's battling it out. One a draft pick of course and one of them can't be Chandler, Burris or Sauter. Get Kordell, draft a qb, keep Miller.
-
what about jeff suppan???
I like Halama. At worse he goes to AAA and can come up for Doubleheaders and if needed can come in and provide an extra lefty arm in the pen.

how will the rotation be now?
Thats what I'm saying. Not only do we have two aces, but we have a deep rotation. People can doubt Jon and Danny, but they throw innings, which takes stress of the bullpen and over the long haul, with this offense if our pitchers are keeping us in the games we will be real good. Last season we were able to go .500 despite the fact we had Ritchie and Glover who couldn't get past the 5th inning.
