  1. The write-up sounds promising, that said, his weakness is not an area that the White Sox development team has excelled at. All things considered, I'll take it for the flyer that Anthony S was. Presume we will see him with the big league club for a good chunk of the 2nd half of the season.
  2. Rumor that Alonso and Gray to Yankees (from A's).
  3. Catch-All thread for non-white sox trade rumors/news.
  4. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 04:19 PM) Where are they going? Yankees.
  5. Given report that Swarzak is headed to Brewers...closing this thread.
  6. QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 08:53 PM) So it's just pretty much out there now Kopech is the best pitching prospect in the game at this point? Personally, I think he's our 2nd best prospect (behind Yoan). I love Kopech though. Jimenez is also pretty damn elite. Only way I see Kopech not succeeding is due to health (certainly a real risk).
  7. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 09:44 PM) Anybody surprised as hell about what Tim Tebow is doing in High A? Through 84 ABs: .310 AVG, .402 OBP, .938 OPS, 4 HR, 15 RBI, 10 BB, 18 SO I know they aren't great numbers but for a guy who hasn't played in 10+ years before this it is pretty amazing what he is doing. I am extremely impressed.
  8. This is essentially spring training for him. What is with all the Rodon hate. In two seasons with the Sox he has flashed streaks (and on multiple occassions) where he pitches at an elite level. 1st year was getting through the jitters, 2nd year was adding to the workload and obviously 3rd year should have been building the consistency, but still, he's striking out 9.1 guys per 9 innings and hasn't ever gotten hit that much. Walks are about the only thing we could argue much about. He's made 4 freaking starts after missing most of the year with injuries. Things take time. If he is getting crushed all year...then we can start to worry (more so because I presume he's got health issues...cause he's far too talented when healthy to not be at least a good pitcher). And where do the Andrew Miller comps come from? Miller was a crappy starter/crappy major league pitcher for his first 5 to 6 years (it wasn't until his 2nd year in Boston that he did anything worthwhile). And during those first 5 to 6 crappy years he wasn't striking out guys anywhere close to what Rodon does...it wasn't until his second year in Boston where his strikeout rate jumped to 11 per 9 inning (after being in that 6-8 range). Note: The only similarity between Miller and Rodon is they were high picks / very highly touted prospects, who throw left handed. Rodon's actual major league success (not withstanding 4/5 starts this year) as a starter are lightyears beyond anything Miller did early in his major league career.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 23, 2017 -> 08:26 PM) I'm the opposite. The dorne characters have fallen too easily. Euron wasn't supposed to be a great warrior The Dorne characters were crappy in the shows (and weren't well received) which is why I presumed their were whacked so quick this season.
  10. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 06:02 PM) No he isn't. Come on.
  11. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 02:29 PM) OMG not you too. I've been fending off people on twitter talking about this. The Bulls didn't have the assets to acquire anyone let alone Kyrie Irving with Jimmy Butler on the team. What were they going to trade? #16, future 1st, Rondo, Portis? Why the hell would the Cavs trade Irving to a divisional rival for s*** just because? None of this makes any sense Remember...I was never on the tank bandwagon so my response shouldn't be a shock. My view is in the NBA, stars can force below market trades. If Kyrie wanted to come to Chicago...it could have gotten done.
  12. Welp...I truly do think the Bulls made the wrong move. Kyrie wants out of Cleveland...would have been a great piece to put alongside Jimmy. Hopefully they hit the lottery on the draft, etc, otherwise we are going to look at a long run of sucking. Jimmy made it clear on so many occassions how committed he was to Chicago and to bringing other stars to Chicago. It would have happened.
  13. QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 10:03 AM) You guys talking about Audi's and Tesla's....well, I'll make you all drool... Going next week to buy a MINIVAN. Yea, top that one, suckers. (I'm so jealous of you guys and your cool cars) Hah...I wish I had a minivan. Wanted one but my wife sternly vetoed it (something about too young to have minivans...blah blah). I actually prefer the big SUVs but I'm a cheapass. We still love our highlander though. Minivans are just so damn convenient / comfortable.
  14. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 12:22 PM) Reddit board. Now listen to the people JR! I thought it was real gm.
  15. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 07:48 AM) I think that's a big reason why we're not just tanking, we're stockpiling assets. Also, we all remember the Josh Fields era, but I'm willing to give Hostetler the benefit of the doubt for a while. Tanking is stupid. Baseball draft picks are generally busts. Stockpiling assets is smart though (given where we were). Development will be critical and I hope the Sox have figured things out and we don't see our development team fail miserably with the talent that has been infused into the system.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 09:27 AM) I agree. He's worth more to the White Sox than other teams. I think it's a good idea to keep a vet or 2 around anyways. Last time the Sox totally rebuilt like this, they kept Carlton Fisk around even though he was 40ish. When they White Flagged it, they kept several guys around. We will see. A lot happens in a few months. But Hahn sort of made it clear last night, this year and next season are the tank years, then the winning is supposed to commence. Hopefully the prospects make that a reality. I'd still say that is probably an aggressive timeline, given how much of a deep gutting / cleansing we are doing. SO many guys that are in A-ball. I tend to view the window more as this year / next year we are bad (and probably bottoming out from a major league wins perspective) and then we start to truly see the infusion of talents and the needle pointing upwards (reality is this probably starts at some point during 2nd half of next season where some guys have truly emerged as building blocks). Please note I don't yet count anyone in the minors as a "building block"...it takes actually showing the flashes at the big league level before I move my definition to that category.
  17. I presume we won't get the type of offer we'd like to move Jose.
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 09:01 AM) I get it, I really do. The reliever thing. Does Kahnle have an injury history? Because Nate and Jesse did, if I recall correctly. Besides, I know Jesse was going to get us Arrieta, but no one knew Arrieta was going to turn into what he did either. Jesse really wasn't worth crap, even before he failed the physical. I guess I just believed in Kahnle, and would have personally taken the risk on him. Crain was having an extremely dominating season before going down and was coming off two straight above average seasons. Jesse Crain had a lot of value...of course by the point we were about to trade Arrietta for Crain..it was after he was hurt (and his value had already been diminished significnatly) and when he was about to come back (or so we thought...reality was he was never the same after that injury). Had we sold Crain before he got hurt that year, we'd have got some nice chips. He had a .74 ERA in 38 games that year (and the prior two seasons with the Sox had a 2.62 and 2.44 ERA) while striking out 11.3, 11.3, and 9.6 batters per nine innings. He put up a 2.4 WAR as a reliever in 38 games prior to going down with that injury. That is filthy.
  19. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 09:42 PM) Anyone pumped up about Goldberg coming back? No? Ok. I don't mind it.
  20. Anderson has time to work and Moncada can to. We need to get guys up and learning if we intend to truly contend in a few years. Maybe we could have waited a bit longer, but at some point, get him with your best coaches and put in the work and get him time to develop. We'd have to wait until what, next June if we wanted to extend a year of control. Does anyone legitimately think we were going to do that, so at this point, while he hasn't totally dominated, I think he's proven that he's held his own and we can have him up and learn (just like Anderson will learn from this season and hopefully make adjustments in the 2nd half of this year and again in the off-season to rebound and get back to being the player we think he will). We'll also likely start seeing some of our future pitchers emerge onto the seen and get better too. Not everyone will pan out and players are going to take time to develop and this process will take time.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 09:36 PM) I'm gonna miss DRob. He struggled at times but I have never heard one bad thing about him off the field. He was one of the few free agents we've signed that wasn't a massive bust. And from the Yanks perspective, they have a ridiculous bullpen and Frazier is the type of bat that I think fits nicely for a contender. Yanks pen can be dominant (think Royals of a couple years ago). That model can work (when combined with a nice offense).
  22. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 09:33 PM) Would've rather seen Delmonico. I love Delmonico's bat and I look forward to seeing him up at some point. Perfect guy for a rebuild (someone we could turn into a traceable asset in a few years...bat I think will play...defensive flaws...maybe he plays into better then that). I really think his bat will play though.
  23. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 09:30 PM) For Hahn to get all this potential talent is nine months is amazing. Kudos to him. No guarantees but no one can say that he isn't going full bore with this and demanding quality in return. I also like that we aren't sitting too long on these pieces. By moving guys earlier, we are ensuring we drive the market (and actually by executing on the deals we have, I think everyone knows we are serious and are willing to pull the trigger, but also recognize we aren't going to cave on price). This also means we can get cute with the final asset or two and spend a lot of time working/thinking about Avi / Melky (and anyone else we dangle). It will be interesting to see if we do any "buying" nearer the deadline of guys we think are good buy-low candidates (say jumping in as a 3rd team in a deal). Or even acting as a cash buffer to absorb a contract for prospect (given how low our payroll figures to be the next couple years and the fact that we have few real ways to truly invest/leverage that cash).
