2017-18 official NBA discussion thread

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 02:01 PM) Athletically he made some plays in that one game at Boston, but otherwise he was really bad throughout the playoffs. He was benched for a while. edit: I mean he's young, so there's obviously upside, but I hate when teams give up on young talent. Almost always means they've found something out they don't like. If he's really that good, why would the Celtics give up on him? Because Boston is good now and needs to get better. Brown takes time and that doesn't fit into the timeline. Youth takes time to develop into winners and at some point, you need real veterans to help with that...otherwise that young youth just learns to be a "loser" and the cycle continues. -

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 01:58 PM) UGH, super hard pass. Brown looked awful this post-season. When I watched Brown, he looked like a player with pretty good potential. I didn't say I would love the trade...but I think the Bulls / Celtics might be able to make it work. I'm sure Bulls are asking for the Lakers pick (along with Brown / #3) and the Celtics only want to give up Brown or the #3 (and forget even thinking about the Lakers pick). -
Ketchup on hot dogs is good...but avocado and guac is also fantastic.

I'm predicting Bulls trade Butler to Celtics for a package built around the #3 pick and Jaylen Brown. -

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 10:13 AM) I can believe it. Not sure why the sixers would want to trade for Jimmy with where they are as a franchise right now. Youth alone doesn't work. I could see where Sixers might have been interested. -

QUOTE (Boogua @ Jun 16, 2017 -> 10:20 AM) They're not. The Celtics have been fawning over Fultz all year according to the vertical podcast. He was the consensus number 1 before they even got the pick. He's going #1 barring something crazy happening. I think everything is to some extent talk and I still think Celtics trade the pick. -
QUOTE (Soha @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 10:04 PM) Might be posted somewhere else, but Bleacher Report listed the Sox as losers of the draft. They didn't like the Burger pick, and in general thought the Sox were in a position to be bold, but instead played it safe. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2715517...gramming-league I have no idea how to really grade a baseball draft right after. Football/Basketball are hard enough...baseball is just a whole nother dynamic.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 06:09 AM) He had a few really good years. 360 career homers. Had some horrid ones as well. Was a leader-type player on a team that had several. When he signed with the Angels, back when $3 million a year was big money, he was awful. He seemed to lose a bit of intensity. He got released eventually, signed with the Royals and was pretty good there a couple of years. Burger plays hard. I'm really not too worried about the body, I think the Sox can fix that. If his bat works, it's a good pick. Another reason is he isn't a strike out machine. The Sox have little luck with those guys. If somehow Kendall overcomes the odds and becomes a star, many will say it was a mistake to pass him up. But, the White Sox seem to recognize a weakness. They haven't been able to develop this type of guy. Kendall may become a star, it doesn't mean he would have done the same had the White Sox drafted him. Strikeouts are a huge problem in baseball and I'm glad the Sox are going away from it. I don't care what the statties want to say about a strikeout not being worse then a hit by ball...it is far less entertaining and makes the game slower. More strikeouts, mean less contact, means less plays / action as a whole.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 05:49 PM) The big question is whether J4L will go into hiding...maybe, unless Durant shocks the world and leaves Golden State, or Curry. Odds of either happening, not quite nil, but insignificant nonetheless. Next year Lebron is going to join Paul in LA (with Clippers). We will see who else is there with the Clippers...I presume Wade will be there as well. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 04:48 PM) https://sports.yahoo.com/2017-nba-finals-wa...-210718543.html The 2017 NBA Finals were the most watched since Michael Jordan's final title run (Politics AND) NBA basketball becoming must-watch tv this year despite all the complaints of more serious fans... Amazing...all of big basketball fans I know barely watched the playoffs at all. It must be the casual fans packing in or I just surround myself with my own "bubble" of people.

David Banuelos is a guy I'd have liked the Sox to draft. His bat might not play, but he really really has a shot at being an elite defensive catcher, which I think works in this era.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 06:37 AM) Just a horrible NBA season and there is no reason to expect next year to be any different. My NBA interest is at an all time low (even lower than the dreadful stretch in the middle of the 2000s). I am right there with you.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 11, 2017 -> 07:32 PM) For sure, great result. Love to hear the frustration in the Mexican fans. Beat Panama at home and a top 3 finish should be secured. Sucks we got to wait another 3 months till we get more qualifiers. This team is looking better right now...never know what we look like in 3 months (if guys get hurt, etc.). Love getting that point in Azteca.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 11, 2017 -> 05:42 PM) So awesome. I take back everything bad I've been saying about him recently The other strike he had late in the 2nd half was fantastic as well. Mexico was all over Pulisic, but you can still just see how special he is. He had a late run that he struck wide right, but when he touches the ball...you think something special can happen. Very very premature statement...but he seems to have an "it" factor.

Shocker -
Pulisic with two huge goals. Wasn't pretty at times...but US did what it needed to do at home. Huge game in Azteca on Sunday. Fired up for it. Final stretch of World Cup qualifying.

Prayers with you and your family Yoda. Hoping you guys get good news!!!

Presume he can get insurance or something to protect him.

Titans rebounded to a rough end of the season by taking out the #2 national seed. Await winner of Texas / Long Beach State. Wouldn't mind playing the dirtbags to ensure one Big West team gets in!

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 24, 2017 -> 01:15 PM) Considering the Bulls stance with Eddy Curry and his heart condition, I would be shocked if they went after Bosh and his clots. I understand the guy loves playing, but he needs to walk away. There is no reason to take the slightest risk. Even though he probably would improved the team if he signed, I hope the Bulls pass. That is a tragedy waiting to happen. I think the Bulls wanted him to do various tests before they paid him massive amounts of money. In the case of Bosh, I imagine every team will have protection. Yes, the Bulls wanted Eddy to be healthy and get the necessary checks, but they also wanted to protect their "investment".
-
How can the Bulls get Deaaron Fox. I would like him on our team. On an unrelated note, what are the odds that Bosh is a Bull?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 19, 2017 -> 11:14 AM) I wish something was done to motivate teams to win, and give the teams like the Bulls, the NBA hell guys, some sort of shot even with GarPax calling the shots. Of course I probably didn't feel that way when the Bulls were picking top 3 every year. What would really be interesting if they made the lottery open to all teams with the same odds, 1st round draft pick trades would probably go way down unless the guy was an absolute star. The idea I mentioned was a hybrid. You at least took out the top 8 teams in the league, but everyone else was in the lottery with the same odds. That way, you are encouraged to do as good as you can and if you are a 5th seed, you could end up getting out of NBA hell by winning the lottery or landing a top pick (this in general, should lead to more teams trying and actually give teams who are on the cusp a shot to actually push over the top).

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ May 19, 2017 -> 11:02 AM) You know who says this? Everyone but the NBA. The NBA is just fine being top heavy. They always have been. Come playoff time, when the real money from TV is made, they get monster ratings from having Cavs v. Warriors part 3 instead of Blazers v. Bucks. I think the NBA would like the real s*** franchises (Sacramento, Minnesota, Orlando, Phoenix, etc) to occasionally be good and make it to the playoffs so that their fanbases stay engaged, but if there's only a handful of teams with legitimate shots at the title, they're fine with that too. NBA was great when the Blazers and Kings were both rivaling the Lakers in the late 90's. The fact that there are 2 or 3 teams that can contend is not good for basketball.
-
QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ May 19, 2017 -> 10:30 AM) He'd have to take a discount to come here. I see a chance of leaving him LA after another first round exit, but not much of a chance taking a discount to come to the Bulls of all teams. More likely he goes to OKC, imo. I heard someone suggesting that the lottery should be changed to include middling playoff teams (so 5-8 seeds) and that all teams in the lottery should have even odds. It removes tanking while also theoritically giving more "middling" teams who are trying to contend a chance to contend. The NBA has a serious problem, given how few teams can legitimately contend right now.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 17, 2017 -> 11:09 AM) 7th, Lavine, another future 1st and Dunn is enough I think. They need to reset the franchise. I care more about winning titles though than most people apparently and I'm not married to Jimmy Butler. If they wouldn't take a deal like that, well enjoy NBA hell I guess. I would do that. I don't think Wolves would.
