Anthony Swarzak to Brewers; Sox receive Ryan Cordell
QUOTE (JPR @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 04:42 PM) He's completely incorrect in his/her assessment of the trade and to give up carson fulmer in his mock trade is just laughable. I finally had to post after 8 years of reading this forum, because he single handily ruined the reading material of this thread by letting his incorrect assertions bleed from page to page like a never ending story. White Sox have the best farm system in all of baseball, maybe second worst case scenario behind the Braves, let's be excited and focus on the positives. First off, welcome aboard. Secondly, no need to call out Shack (or any member for that matter directly). Debates are going to happen and different ideas/opinions are good and welcome. Besides, while I might disagree with Shack's views of this trade, he is an excellent poster/member on this site.

Melky thread
Angels have zero farm system, but I predict they will at least inquire about Melky (they have been struggling though so pretty unlikely they can make the wild card, but for some reason I could see them talking). Their outfield (outside of Trout) is complete and utter trash. Calhoun is usually good but has had a very down year.

Melky thread
QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 07:05 PM) So what do you think? Traded by Monday afternoon, or August waiver deal? Starting to think the latter. I would hope we'd kick in cash where appropriate to get something attractive. This team isn't going to be spending much money the next two years. I would think we act by July 31st. August would be more along the lines of a guy like Clippard (if he got rolling) or maybe a Miguel Gonzalez / Holland / etc.

Anthony Swarzak to Brewers; Sox receive Ryan Cordell
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 06:03 PM) See, I couldn't disagree more. I don't like this much at all. We've already got like 2-3 guys that can play center field. Presumably, this guy will come up and play left when Melky is gone, but Adam Engel is actually deserving of playing time right now and I think when Garcia returns, he deserves another chance as well. Would have much rather gotten an intriguing arm or something. I get the Swarzak was signed as a minor league FA, but let's not ignore what he accomplished up here; nor should we ignore his stuff. Dude can bring mid-90's heat with a wicked slider that he currently has penchant for locating wherever the hell he wants. I'm frustrated by this idea of comparing the value a player had when he was initially signed with the value he received back when traded. What we need to be considering is the value the player has given his current performance. If that means we get some mediocre prospect who might become a 4th OFer if he's lucky, I'd prefer to just f***ing let the guy close for the rest of the year and see if he'll resign with you. I should probably wait until I actually see this guy play, because it sounds like he is one hell of an athlete, but we are not short on athletes, from what I understand. So I think the reality is...when a guy is just a few months removed from being a minimal signing, you just can't disconnect trade value, etc and expect current production. In the case of Kanhle, there was more dynamics at play, since we had him under control for a few more years...but in the case of Swarzak, relievers are highly volatile, and while stuff is there, the guy is old and a free agent at the end of the year, with minimal track record of success. You just can't expect to get "current production" sales price for someone who has only produced for a couple months who is going to walk at the end of the year.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 05:43 PM) Don't let this distract you from the the fact that in 1966, Al Bundy scored four touchdowns in a single game while playing for the Polk High School Panthers in the 1966 city championship game versus Andrew Johnson High School, including the game-winning touchdown in the final seconds against his old nemesis, Bubba "Spare Tire" Dixon. No ma'am

Anthony Swarzak to Brewers; Sox receive Ryan Cordell
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 04:45 PM) Longenhagen had him as the 12st best prospect in a pretty solid Brewers system. I really like the fact that he's essentially major league ready and actually has good all-round tools. There is some upside here and for a team that could be patching together an OF for the next two years, he's a great guy to gamble on. Yep - We have the luxury of time too. He isn't getting in anyone's way (in terms of taking AB's) and we can be patient with him to see if we have something (or not).

Anthony Swarzak to Brewers; Sox receive Ryan Cordell
The write-up sounds promising, that said, his weakness is not an area that the White Sox development team has excelled at. All things considered, I'll take it for the flyer that Anthony S was. Presume we will see him with the big league club for a good chunk of the 2nd half of the season.

MLB Pipeline Midseason Rankings
QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 08:53 PM) So it's just pretty much out there now Kopech is the best pitching prospect in the game at this point? Personally, I think he's our 2nd best prospect (behind Yoan). I love Kopech though. Jimenez is also pretty damn elite. Only way I see Kopech not succeeding is due to health (certainly a real risk).

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 09:44 PM) Anybody surprised as hell about what Tim Tebow is doing in High A? Through 84 ABs: .310 AVG, .402 OBP, .938 OPS, 4 HR, 15 RBI, 10 BB, 18 SO I know they aren't great numbers but for a guy who hasn't played in 10+ years before this it is pretty amazing what he is doing. I am extremely impressed.

Can Rodon become a quality mlb starter?
This is essentially spring training for him. What is with all the Rodon hate. In two seasons with the Sox he has flashed streaks (and on multiple occassions) where he pitches at an elite level. 1st year was getting through the jitters, 2nd year was adding to the workload and obviously 3rd year should have been building the consistency, but still, he's striking out 9.1 guys per 9 innings and hasn't ever gotten hit that much. Walks are about the only thing we could argue much about. He's made 4 freaking starts after missing most of the year with injuries. Things take time. If he is getting crushed all year...then we can start to worry (more so because I presume he's got health issues...cause he's far too talented when healthy to not be at least a good pitcher). And where do the Andrew Miller comps come from? Miller was a crappy starter/crappy major league pitcher for his first 5 to 6 years (it wasn't until his 2nd year in Boston that he did anything worthwhile). And during those first 5 to 6 crappy years he wasn't striking out guys anywhere close to what Rodon does...it wasn't until his second year in Boston where his strikeout rate jumped to 11 per 9 inning (after being in that 6-8 range). Note: The only similarity between Miller and Rodon is they were high picks / very highly touted prospects, who throw left handed. Rodon's actual major league success (not withstanding 4/5 starts this year) as a starter are lightyears beyond anything Miller did early in his major league career.

**SPOILER THREAD** GAME OF THRONES ** SPOILER THREAD **
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 23, 2017 -> 08:26 PM) I'm the opposite. The dorne characters have fallen too easily. Euron wasn't supposed to be a great warrior The Dorne characters were crappy in the shows (and weren't well received) which is why I presumed their were whacked so quick this season.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 02:29 PM) OMG not you too. I've been fending off people on twitter talking about this. The Bulls didn't have the assets to acquire anyone let alone Kyrie Irving with Jimmy Butler on the team. What were they going to trade? #16, future 1st, Rondo, Portis? Why the hell would the Cavs trade Irving to a divisional rival for s*** just because? None of this makes any sense Remember...I was never on the tank bandwagon so my response shouldn't be a shock. My view is in the NBA, stars can force below market trades. If Kyrie wanted to come to Chicago...it could have gotten done.

Welp...I truly do think the Bulls made the wrong move. Kyrie wants out of Cleveland...would have been a great piece to put alongside Jimmy. Hopefully they hit the lottery on the draft, etc, otherwise we are going to look at a long run of sucking. Jimmy made it clear on so many occassions how committed he was to Chicago and to bringing other stars to Chicago. It would have happened.

QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 10:03 AM) You guys talking about Audi's and Tesla's....well, I'll make you all drool... Going next week to buy a MINIVAN. Yea, top that one, suckers. (I'm so jealous of you guys and your cool cars) Hah...I wish I had a minivan. Wanted one but my wife sternly vetoed it (something about too young to have minivans...blah blah). I actually prefer the big SUVs but I'm a cheapass. We still love our highlander though. Minivans are just so damn convenient / comfortable.

FS: The Ghost of Systems Past
QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 07:48 AM) I think that's a big reason why we're not just tanking, we're stockpiling assets. Also, we all remember the Josh Fields era, but I'm willing to give Hostetler the benefit of the doubt for a while. Tanking is stupid. Baseball draft picks are generally busts. Stockpiling assets is smart though (given where we were). Development will be critical and I hope the Sox have figured things out and we don't see our development team fail miserably with the talent that has been infused into the system.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 09:27 AM) I agree. He's worth more to the White Sox than other teams. I think it's a good idea to keep a vet or 2 around anyways. Last time the Sox totally rebuilt like this, they kept Carlton Fisk around even though he was 40ish. When they White Flagged it, they kept several guys around. We will see. A lot happens in a few months. But Hahn sort of made it clear last night, this year and next season are the tank years, then the winning is supposed to commence. Hopefully the prospects make that a reality. I'd still say that is probably an aggressive timeline, given how much of a deep gutting / cleansing we are doing. SO many guys that are in A-ball. I tend to view the window more as this year / next year we are bad (and probably bottoming out from a major league wins perspective) and then we start to truly see the infusion of talents and the needle pointing upwards (reality is this probably starts at some point during 2nd half of next season where some guys have truly emerged as building blocks). Please note I don't yet count anyone in the minors as a "building block"...it takes actually showing the flashes at the big league level before I move my definition to that category.

I presume we won't get the type of offer we'd like to move Jose.
