  1. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jul 7, 2016 -> 09:21 AM) By the way: the two max deals dream needs to die. They just updated the projection to $102 mil next year. Butler+Lopez is just over 30 and a first year max will be close to 30. That would be 90-ish, and then you just gave a geezer 2-48, Rondo needs to be off the books, and there's 9 more roster spots with holds. The math just doesn't work. But I'll live with a real max guy plus a really good player too.

That would be 90-ish, and then you just gave a geezer 2-48, Rondo needs to be off the books, and there's 9 more roster spots with holds. The math just doesn't work. The math absolutely worked prior to the updated projection. The question is what will the projection ultimately be. Rondo will be gone in the two max scenario deal and we'd renounce the right. I do agree the cap reduction leaves us a bit short. I had posted the numbers based upon the old projection yesterday and they absolutely worked.
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 08:52 PM) I never claimed flights don't delay. I claimed that front offices that are in major free agent meetings don't miss theirs to a flight delay when there are clearly many other planes that were not delayed, or you go the night before. This is the NBA, they just signed a 24 billion tv contract. They can fly charter to visit players in the hamptons. It is not comparable to an accounting firm. I don't really consider this winning. But I pray this "recruiting angle" works, because this is the worst roster construction for modern times. Even if it explodes and Forman is fired, it means we will be unattractive as a destination again. But perhaps we'd get a good draft pick in a good draft. It is a business. The overreaction was because people are stunned that we had a delay come up when none of us know the circumstances of what was going on. We don't know what Wade and the Bulls talked about. Wade might have said, I think we can meet at X time in NY or it might be the following day here, but I'll confirm tomorrow or he might have not really confirmed anything until the morning. The Bulls might have told him X or Y happened. It could have literally been, you have a one hour window or a two hour window and they found that window out today (when prior to today, they didn't know if they were meeting with Wade in NY or if it was today or tomorrow or what). The point is, none of us know, so to overreact is just absurd on something like this. I can't imagine Gar and Pax sitting on a Southwest flight, saying, oh thank god this thing is delayed, now I don't have to fail miserably in our pitch or not trying to do something. Sometimes you can't do anything, especially if the window is short. You might have found out at 6 AM this morning you need to book a flight and go to the airport and get on that 8:30 AM flight to NY that got you in with a little time to spare and the plane backed out of the gate and bam, mechanical failure and you literally sat on the tarmac (I don't think they apply special rules to NBA GM's than the rest of the population (I can't just stand up on a plane and say, please please, take me back to the gate, I need to book another flight so that I can meet with Dwayne Wade). It doesn't work that way...they'll sit on the tarmac (no matter how loud you pout or how much you scream and shout about who you are (unless you scream and shout loud enough that they give you a full cavity search at airport security and put you in jail).
  4. Now when we use our MLE to sign Ray Allen...that is when I will proclaim our championship aspirations. I do wonder what we will do with the MLE.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 08:50 PM) There are some huge names out there. One thing I can honestly say is that this team now has two stars who are willing to sell the s*** out of this team. Yep - And Jimmy is going to be working that angle at the olympics while Wade is vacationing with Chris Paul and Lebron, etc. Oh...I can't wait till next year, when we are finally on the right side of these bromances and guys teaming up (and coming to CHICAGO). f*** man....f***. Never saw this coming. And LOL...supposedly Calderon went to Lakers for just 1 2nd round pick (per KC...some earlier reports were that it was 2 and even than, given his contract, that was a coup, imo). Cavs, on the other hand, did really well getting Dunleavy (and Pax has already told Dunleavy to whisper into Lebron's ears every night about the Bulls so that a year from now, they can come back...LOL). In all seriousness, I love MJD from a basketball standpoint playing with Lebron. Bulls are either getting a 2nd round pick from Cavs or a foreign player.
  6. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 08:43 PM) Man you are on some crazy pills when it comes to the Bulls my friend. What crazy pills. Do you people not realize, we will have cap space for two max deals. Are you going to choose the Lakers? Okay...Knicks could be a possibility (NY plus Porzingis could be a stud) but legimately, who the hell else is going to be able to construct as attractive of a team and make a pitch for two max deals (clearly the Warriors are out...OKC I suppose could...but it is OKC.....Dallas / Houston...maybe....Clips could...but bottom line, we are in a good spot. PS: Never have you seen me claim any delusion we are going to win a title with this roster, but i legit think 3-4 seed is more than reasonable.
  7. Literally, we will be able to offer 2 max deals next year and still have Buckets, Wade, Valentine, Portis, Lopez, McDermott...not all that bad of a spot to be in. Please, please, let this team takes steps forward (and not backwards) so they truly are really marketable to the 2017 class.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 08:35 PM) Yes it was a bulls*** hilarious moment from a front office full of them, like when they set out to get younger and more athletic and then signed wade and rondo. Shack wins again! Yeah, so hillarious and awful.....internet trolls everywhere won, oh wait, he signed with the Bulls. On the bright side, anytime I have a delayed flight, somewhere in between my annoyance of the delay, I will laugh and think of you bmags and your rant against the Bulls front office. PS: I am not saying that in a dick tone (in case it comes off that way). I laugh at my own hillarious comments at times too and you too, will one day laugh at this comment. Probably a little less to almost exactly a year from now, when we land that big f***ing fish.
  9. What did the Lakers get and what did we get from Cleveland? I'm curious. I just want to make sure no 1st rounders were harmed in the doing of these deals. By the way, I like MJD, so I will miss him, but man, major coup not having to deal Taj.
  10. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 08:16 PM) Just a reminder that no more of this bulls*** "I know a lot of people get mad when they see me sit out or whatever, but I think a lot of people don't understand that when I sit out it's not because of this year. I'm thinking about long term. I'm thinking about after I'm done with basketball. Having graduations to go to, having meetings to go to, I don't want to be in my meetings all sore. Or be at my son's graduation all sore just because of something I did in the past. I'm just learning and being smart." Wade is so anti-rose in that sense. And Rondo, punk or not, has always marked me as the kind of guy I want on my team (has a nasty streak about him). You know...this isn't the perfectly constructed roster, and I have zero delusions of a championship, but it will be fun to watch and clearly some of the young guys are going to get key roles on the bench too (Portis / Dougie / Valentine / Grant). And I'm f***ing confident next year we are landing a f***ing STUD.
  11. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 06:34 PM) Rondo has already done more recruiting in a few days than rose has in 8 years. If Rondo was as bad as Bmags claims (personality wise), Dwayne Wade wouldn't be signing here (worse yet, Rondo sure as s*** wouldn't be part of our "recruiting" pitch). And alas, here he is. Funny thing is I don't think Rondo is part of the long-term, but I think the hell that is Sacremento changed things mentally a ton for Rajon.
  12. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 06:01 PM) As dumb and pointless as itd be, Wade coming here would be oddly fun. I honestly think it'd change what players think about the Bulls. The deal for Demarcus cousins and let him Chuck threes. I absolutely think it changes the dynamic in the league. Wade is highly, highly respected and thought of. For him to come here and if he enjoys is time here, etc, next off-season, him and Buckets whispering sweet love into Lebron or Chris Paul or Blake Griffin's ear is going to sound good to those guys. The key is Wade stays healthy next year and somehow the roster / team doesn't entirely implode. Lets get a 3 or 4 seed and play well, get into the 2nd round of the playoffs, give enough good ora that free agents would know they could come and help play with some highly respected guys (Wade / Buckets) and try and take out the Warriors.
  13. All this said, I have no idea how and what Rondo / Wade / Buckets will look like offensively. It isn't exactly the best basketball pairing / melding of skill-sets. But Rondo is a short-timer and in the grand scheme so is Wade, so I'm all for whatever gives the Bulls the best shot to find other real assets to go with Butler longer term. And hell, in the short-term, it makes for an interesting watch. And if a year from now, James teams up with Wade and Butler in Chicago (after the Cavs get spanked by the Warriors)...it will all be worth it.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 05:24 PM) So the Bulls are going to trade guys to make space, and then get left at the alter again by Wade, aren't they. Well, I don't really have an issue of them moving people, etc...as long as they aren't moving long-term pieces / assets. I presume anything we do would be more contingent on things going through (and right now we are ensuring we have things in place).
  15. I think if this happens, we'll make a deal with the Kings and let them take cap space off our hands (help them get to the floor) and in the meantime, they'll rest well knowing they won't lose their pick.
  16. On an unrelated note, I'd prefer to keep Taj (vs. dump him) but I presume they won't be able to move our PG from the Knicks (without including picks), which means it will be MDJ and Taj that get moved. Please, whatever happens, I don't want to see us giving up a 1st round pick (I really hope we can stay away from that) to free up this space. In fact, I hope we are getting something of value (especially for Taj). I don't think we should have any issues moving Taj / MJD, however, in this scenario, the Bulls have a lot less leverage making a deal (given we are forced to have to move them and would need to move them immediately).
  17. By the way, I never think of Woj and him knowing our front office (they generally don't like him). He might get info but I don't think it is coming from the Bulls (it used to come through Thibs...now I don't know where he'd get any data from, at least internally). So as a result, I do put that skepticism on his reports (as it means they are likely from agents / other teams / Wade's reps).
  18. If we sign Wade, than I think the possibility of actually landing a bigger fish a year from now increases. I also think Wade helps ensure that Rondo doesn't totally ruin team chemistry.
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 02:43 PM) http://www.blogabull.com/2016/7/6/12105724...hy-not#comments http://www.barstoolsports.com/chicago/upda...ht-got-delayed/ twitter.com You know, places that one could easily find if they followed the bulls. Yes, you have confirmed my point. Whiny fans who have no idea how things operate in the real world.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 02:32 PM) That would be amazing except none of those things happened today, you guys have great hypotheticals. So what exactly happened today?
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 02:26 PM) Great made-up hypothetical! I have another one. What if the Bulls were a well run organization that met with targeted free agents and weren't a PR disaster. These are fun! Dude...what made up hypothetical. What I told you is real and legitimate. You live in a world that planes never get delayed and people never end up being late. Is your only point in this that the Bulls should have lied and just said they had to reschedule vs. anything else? Either way, they aren't directly commenting on this so it would be hard for them to "control" that message. You are to the point where you want to find everything and anything to blame the Bulls for. Its fine, but I'm just telling you there is no rational point behind how far gone you've went.
  22. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 02:14 PM) You need a hug or something man, Jesus. How do we know that Wade didn't tell the Bulls he had 2 hours to meet in New York before he had to get ready for his show tomorrow AM and the Bulls couldn't make a flight/couldn't make it work so they said nah, we'll see you Thursday if you're serious? Isn't that a plausible scenario that is pretty darn reasonable? Yes, to anyone with logic it is. s*** happens...even to exec's. They could be flying the greatest plane in the world and still be grounded from flying. I'm sure the president misses things due to weather, other events, too. Sometimes stuff happens. And I'm relatively certain Wade had a select window, so unless it could happen during that time, it wasn't happening today. No harm in what the Bulls did, unless you really think they just didn't plan anything, walked to the aiport and were in shock that you can't buy tickets right there or that you don't have availability (I mean, really....really, you seriously believe that). But I'm going to guess Bmags has never been on a flight that has been delayed or better yet, been to an airport which literally had an outage and no flights were going out (chartered & commercial). I don't even know what the circumstances were, but stuff happens.
  23. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 01:51 PM) If they were serious you would think they would have gotten in the night before. I think in many cases, these meetings move quite a bit and who knows when Wade decided to tell the Bulls or ask the Bulls to meet? Hard to know since meetings get moved all the time by reporters reports, but who knows in reality what is actually happen. I do agree with you, that in general, you'd go the day before, but you could have had other business to attend, etc. In free agency a lot of stuff is volatile so things aren't going to be perfectly planned.
  24. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 01:21 PM) No, I only blame them for their actions. You have possibly 1, maybe 2 meetings like this a year. Everyone is laughing at them for this. They are either lying and adding to their horrendous reputation with agents or telling the truth and look like imbeciles. This is a competitive free agent market and making your meetings is important. Saying your flight was delayed is hysterical. Don't get me wrong, I'm very pleased they were incompetent here, they are better for it. But this probably bumps showing up at the ohare terminal with benny the bull as most LOLworthy moments in Bulls history. J Dumbass fans are laughing, most of whom know nothing about how things work in the real world. Legitimate things can and will happen. Airtravel isn't a teleport and you just get from point A to point B. Things come up and issues happen.
  25. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 11:59 AM) Yes, I'm sure they do fly to many things commercial. But when you have access to a private charter because you are part of a league that just handed out billions of dollars and have an important meeting where the likes of Pat Riley who shows up in helicopters on the beach and you have to call the recruit and be like "SORRY SOUTHWEST PUSHED BACK WE ARE TRYING TO GET A FREE VOUCHER WE MAY HAVE TO FLY TO TULSA FIRST WE REALLY VALUE YOU WEVE BEEN MAKING A POWRPOINT WHAT I CAN"T HEAR YOU WHY ARE YOU LAUGHING" Miami isn't Chicago. Weather in one place can be different than weather in another. Even if you flew a charter, you can have equipment issues, etc. It is one thing to blame the Bulls, but you have gone to this really sad extreme where everything and anything is there fault. The sky is blue...f***ing front office. If Wade was seriously considering the Bulls, he'd wait, and if he wasn't, nothing is really lost. s*** happens.
