  1. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 16, 2016 -> 09:11 AM) Infielders are taught to throw low if a player comes in hard. I was taught that in HS. Everyone knows that. Yes, I think Odor overreacted with the punches, but when Bautista literally landed on the bag with his a** trying to take your legs out when he KNOWS that's illegal, I'd be pissed too. EDIT: Also, I understand Bautista was very upset with getting hit, but you're down one and you slide like that knowing it'll be ruled a DP no matter what? That's incredibly selfish of him. I think I pointed out that they are taught to throw low, however, Odor went lower than I have typically seen an infielder go (like that was about as low as I've ever seen an infielder drop his arm for a throw).
  2. These rules stink. That was a good hard slide. Hate that they got rid of that in the game. Loved the hard takeout slides to break up a double play. Odor was clearly throwing at him (way beyond the typical drop your arm to force a slide).
  3. I really don't like Dhanery's and that ending was meh. Footage looked so hokie. Liked the whole rest of the episode but literally enjoy the show best when she isn't on it. Easily the character I least enjoy (I mean I can't stand sersei or ramsay but it is for different reasons, they are actually really interesting characters).
  4. Beautiful way to snap that losing streak. Now lets put together a nice winning streak!!!
  5. QUOTE (shipps @ May 13, 2016 -> 02:01 PM) I have never been a good roll of the dice. I seriously clicked on that damn thing about 25 times and never once was the Bulls anything other than 14th LOL. Too bad you were right clicking instead of left clicking
  6. Watch the Bulls bring in Deng, Noah and Horford.
  7. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ May 13, 2016 -> 09:51 AM) Anyone else think that Richard fell on purpose at the end of Silicon Valley because they wanted them to see the skunkworks plans? Maybe its part of their plan or something, but its hard to believe Richard would do something that ridiculously stupid if it wasnt part of the plan. Someone posted a link about that theory in an earlier post. After reading the link I'm on the same page as all of you (but thats cause I'm rooting for them).
  8. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ May 13, 2016 -> 09:50 AM) But legally do you HAVE to get those cars repaired? I wouldn't be selling this thing, I'd just drive it until it dies. I don't think you have to do anything. Maybe just call your car insurance and see. Presume it wouldn't be an issue getting car insurance since they are focused on covering the liability and from an overall damage perspective, car is going to be valued considering the salvaged title so as long as it is operating condition would presume it wouldn't impact insurance rates. Key note, I'm presuming so better to just ask your insurance company. Presume as long as it passes smog you can do what you please with it. I would make sure it runs and is fixed and you understand why it was "salvaged". Not sure if you can find the details to that out or not.
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 13, 2016 -> 09:08 AM) Jason, You're absolutely right, and no hard feelings. I just think you have to realize that not everyone views money the same way. For instance, I've seen all kinds of discussions in regards to how to get the best interest rates on things, how to best plan for retirement, how to best invest in the stock market, how much of your income you should spend on cars, or a home, or vacations, etc. Ultimately, I use money as a vehicle to provide me and my family with happiness. My goal is not necessarily to maximize the amount of money in my bank account, but rather, to maximize the amount of happiness and enjoyment I get out of life. And everyone gets happiness and enjoyment out of life in different ways. For instance, I remember the post you made awhile back in regards to finding the best deal on a car for your family. You laid out this incredibly detailed process and and spent what appeared to be a great deal of time ensuring you got what you felt was the best deal possible. Let's say all that work saved you, I dunno, $2k over if you had just walked in on a Tuesday evening and purchased a vehicle off the local dealer's lot. Well, the question is, how much was the process you went through worth to you? Was it worth the stress and the time and the effort? I tend to think you'll probably say it was, otherwise you wouldn't have done it and you wouldn't have posted about it. However, for some others, perhaps it is just easier and makes them happier to walk onto the lot and buy a car and pay the extra $2k. Another example is travel. Many European friends of mine sort of laugh at Americans because many of them put off traveling until they retire, as opposed to traveling when they are younger and perhaps can enjoy more activities, etc. In summary, I don't think one needs to optimize one's life to achieve the largest bankroll for retirement. Rather, we should value happiness over finances. Shack, appreciate your perspective and like I mentioned in my initial post and my secondary post, I purely offered my perspective and thoughts (and am not hear to force any decision as ultimately what people want to actually do is there prerogative and I'm not drumming the you need to spend x% on this and x% on that). Ultimately the decision (like any decision), is up to the individual and I agree with you on the definition of what is worth splurging vs. what isn't for every person is different and that is absolutely fine (I splurge on sports tickets, my residence, my kids education, and traveling, but within my own financial constraints). I always say you shouldn't live your whole life focused on retirement, you got to have a fine balance of present and future. Either way, I'm just offering my perspective / thoughts on the matter and that was really it (don't want to derail this thread more than I already have). What is worth it to different people differs, although I do say you need to make sure whatever it is you buy you can afford. That really is it. If someone wants to spend more disposable income on a car vs. a house or anything else, that is up to each individual (key word being discretionary income). In society I think everyone gets caught up with what everyone else has and that is unhealthy and often times drives people to think that is how they too need to spend there money (and as a result you spend your whole life playing catch-up vs. being ahead of the game). Focus on splurging on the few things that make you happy, but make sure those splurges fit into the realm of whatever each individuals personal finances are.
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ May 13, 2016 -> 08:26 AM) Agreed on Laurie being terrible, so over the top robotic. Poor decision. I would rate the Erlich/Jian Yang fued higher. Almost died when he tried to grab pizza. I don't mind Laurie but clearly don't think very much of her. I thought Jian yang was hilarious when he tried to grab the pizza, along with the eviction stuff, and of course when he shredded Erlich's gift in the disposal.
  11. QUOTE (Tex @ May 13, 2016 -> 05:33 AM) It's a general discussion. People jump in and make comments. From attendance to vacations to cars we tell each other how to spend money all the time here. I guess this one was just a little too directed at one person. Eh...I know some may or may not appreciate my comments. As my friends know (to their chagrin at times), I'm an open book when it comes to things like this and I'm not shy when it comes to my opinion, especially on areas where I think I can provide some form of value / expertise / knowledgeable thoughts (and Its also something I take personally cause I've seen family members and other people make terrible decisions because they didn't know any better of have someone pose the question or challenge the concept). I feel like many people on this board qualify as internet friends who I treat no different when it comes to advice (for better or worse). I'm the type of person when I see people make decisions where I wonder, I tend to like to pose certain questions more to ensure they've thought through things, and sometimes just give tough perspective. Basically put, when it comes to certain items, I'm not the type of friend who keeps there mouth shut. I'm the type that will bring something up...but it is just a friendly suggestion / thought provoking component. I'm not the type that than goes told you so or does anything else or that will continue to shove said stance down there throats. Same way I treat business decisions...if people take my advice great, if they don't, than as long as I don't think the path is factually wrong, than I understand there are multiple ways to skin a cat and just because my way wasn't the way we went, I know I need to get on board and do everything I can to successfully implement the plan (again, if something was factually wrong, than I know I need to adjust my argument to make it more clear). And I also, on a more macro perspective, just view that as a society, we do a poor job educating people on personal finances. Basically, the apple doesn't typically fall far from the tree in many cases. So often times, especially when you are young, you only know what your parents know and parents, no matter how smart they might be, may or may not make good financial decisions. And from a school perspective, you again, get very little education when it comes to managing personal finances. It is a shame since it is a value and skill that should apply to every single subset of the population. Whether you are an engineer or a doctor or a janitor, there is value in understanding personal finance.
  12. QUOTE (Tony @ May 12, 2016 -> 02:19 PM) You guys are all right, and I'm not saying Manizel is where he is just because there are images of him partying. That's not it at all. What I'm saying is media (images and video) make things much worse. Let's just make it simple and stay with the Jordan stuff. There were always rumors of the gambling issues, even when he was playing. Many still believe that's why he left the Bulls the 1st time. But it was always just rumor and chatter. What if there were pictures of a hooded and sunglasses wearing Jordan at the Wynn 3 times a week, or whatever. It would have made things worse and the stories would have grew big time just because there was something to actually look at. People are weird. A lot of times the general public won't believe rumor or speculation, but as soon you as show them a grainy picture of something, it counts as 100% proof, even if it's a totally BS picture. That's all I'm saying, anytime there is media to go along with a story, it changes things. So we need to film what Trump actually says so people really believe he's saying it...oh s***, you mean people have already seen him speak and still are voting for him. Oh god. DBAHO, is Australia taking in new citizens?
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 12, 2016 -> 01:38 PM) Manziel also broke his girlfriend's eardrum. It's not just about partying. Yes, but it wasn't like he wasn't getting bad PR before that. Guy clearly has problems.
  14. QUOTE (Tony @ May 12, 2016 -> 12:51 PM) Things are different when photo/video is involved. It just is. Sort of apples to oranges, but take Manziel for example. He has made some really bad mistakes and just awful errors in judgement, but if the Cleveland media would just keep saying "reports are Manizel is still being seen at nightclubs in LA", it is what it is. In 2016, we see video and pictures of Maziel leaving bars at 4am on a weekly basis. It makes him look awful, and it's become a storyline. In the case of MJ, even if they were mostly underground gambling games, once one picture got out there and sold, everyone would be trying to get in on the action, and we all know how easy it is to grab a quick snap on our phone. All the sudden pictures of him gambling come out once, twice, three times a month. So instead of all the rumors floating around there, we have pictures of him at the table. It's different. Now, would it have really mattered at the end of the day for a guy like Jordan? Probably not, he was obviously still the GOAT. But, to the argument that nothing has changed, I think it has. Not in a gigantic way, but it's changed enough. Big difference...Jordan gambled when he was the best player ever. People knock Manziel, not because he partied, but because he sucked and partied. Look at Gronk...he parties like crazy and people love him for it...why cause he's amazing on the field.
  15. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 12, 2016 -> 11:18 AM) If not for tmz, donald sterling would still own the clippers. That's all you need to know about the difference between now and then. It's no contest. Marge Schott happened before the days of TMZ.
  16. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 12, 2016 -> 10:14 AM) Former Bear Eben Britton wrote about being a functional drug addict in the NFL. Some pretty crazy stuff here https://thecauldron.si.com/what-does-it-tak...ab00#.mrja0t8zt Interesting what he says about the 2014 bears team after they got smoked by NE Great article. Thanks for sharing.
  17. It isn't like Jordan isn't still a hugely recognizable figure. Either he's changed his behaviors as a result of social media, etc (or just gotten more careful) or he adapted to the new society to ensure his image continues to be that of the greatest player ever. If Jordan did something terrible, it would still be huge news and he'd get blasted in social media today. He's still extremely famous and one of the most recognizable people on the planet. I don't buy into Jordan having any image other than the current one he has (regardless of era's). He was too smart of a business guy and by and large his issues happened on the court / in practice. Tons of players gamble and tons of them cheat...I've heard multiple NBA reporters say that it is an unwritten rule that you absolutely do not report on what you see outside of the basketball lines (unless of course it is a violation of laws). And one of the reporters, Ramona Shelbourne, went further and mentioned specifically affairs, other women, etc. The PGA world is a much different perceived sport than basketball. Jordan sleeping with other women didn't make him different. Tiger doing it did (as the perceived golfer is a gentlemen who would never do such a thing...not that it is true, it probably isn't it, but it is the perception). Ask people if they think their favorite NBA player cheats or if their favorite golfer cheats and you'll probably get pretty drastically different responses. Tiger also had done it forever, it was the whole car accident and entire craze that added to it as well.
  18. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 11, 2016 -> 10:26 AM) I got Sierra Nevada's Double IPA, I forget what it's called, but I've had it a few times and it's good. I think Torpedo. Gringolandia's Magnifico Wheat. Stone's West Coast IPA. Then the one Ale with the silky, thread label. The name escapes me. Might be a New Glarus beer. Palos Park Jewel. Came home to mow my Mom's lawn and it was a pleasant surprise. Shame on you. Don't forget...I'm from the paradise state when it comes to craft brews. PS: I couldn't tell you the last time I had a bud, miller or coors...actually I can...would be whenever I went to Milwaukee last and was at the Miller tour (probably 5 years ago now....Shipps can confirm since he was there).
  19. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 11, 2016 -> 01:36 PM) This was 3rd/4th grade, and we had 2 leagues so the better kids played up and the kids who weren't as good or didn't want to compete too hard played down. While the coach definitely wanted to win he was never unpleasant to the kids, he would just always mess with opposing coaches/umps. Never in a mean way, he never called them names or swore (well loudly haha), he would argue the little things when they didn't really matter. But, at the same time, he connected with kids at that age when few can, and the entire team was focused on winning (again, no small feat for that age). We won the championship both years which I don't think any other team had done in quite some time in repeating. And while we were all competitive those were also some of the most fun years I've ever had, great introduction into pitch baseball. Here is the problem..you as kids see him ripping on the umps and now you think that is an acceptable approach. It can snowball from there. I even think of my softball leagues where people would flip out at the umps and how I'd laugh (although I will admit, once or twice, only on total hosejobs, did I voice my displeasure with a loud "realllly" or "noooooo way" that was it. When it is the big leagues, I understand. And people will say, its okay, no it really isn't. In high school and college it isn't tolerated, like at all. Yes with the coaches to an extent, but certainly not with players. Focus on the fundamentals and what you can control. Blaming the umps is an excuse and just starts the tradition of blaming others vs. taking responsibility.
  20. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 11, 2016 -> 12:58 PM) I've always wanted to coach but the politics in it seem like a drain I don't need, my favorite and best coach growing up was forced to quit by parents. He was fantastic with kids and really knew how to coach them up, which is a lot harder than one would think. But his one flaw was that he was relentless on the umps and other coaches (but never got on the opposing players), you could be up by 10 runs and he'll still argue balls/strikes with the ump. I guess his act got old, which is too bad because every kid wanted to be on his team (and no other team wanted to play against his). I have no respect for a coach who rails the umps for freaking kid games. None. The umps are typically volunteering their time (yes some get paid) but growing up in our league an off-duty cop was our ump and he'd ump practically every game in our league except for when his son's team played (made me think of it cause I bumped into him today when dropping my daughter off at preschool). The message being sent to kids at that point is wrong, imo.
  21. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ May 12, 2016 -> 12:48 AM) Tesla changed their projection of 500,000 Model 3's by the end of 2020, to the end of 2018. :o This probably pushed my expected arrival date on my Model 3 from Mid 2018 to Dec. '17 or so. About 6 months less to save for. While it will help almost certainly solidify me for the $7500 tax credit, having less time to save worries me. To account for this, I just bumped up my auto-paid savings "Tesla Fund" account and extra $100 a month. My goal is to be able to take about $20,000 off the price with savings + tax credit. Plan to configure my car for about $42,000 or so. So I'm an ahole (or as I tell myself...a truth teller) when it comes to personal finances, so I'm just going to make this comment, but unless I'm mistaken, you work as a server at a Chili's. Now I have no idea what your longer term plans are and maybe you have lined up some wall street job with a big signing bonus (or already have a ton of money through inheritance or something...either way, I don't need to know), but unless one of my predefined scenarios fits, in no way shape or form is dropping $42K on a car a solid financial decision for someone just starting out. You don't need to take my advice and I'm not here to get into a big discussion about it, but seeing that you are buying one I find it in my internet heart that I need to give you what I feel is the advice I'd tell my kids (and the advice I'd want someone to tell me in that situation).
  22. Any other person made comments and spewed BS projections like he did, and they'd never be in there role. Not to say he isn't really good at what he does (he's brilliant), just saying when it comes public comments, Musk's comments are overly aggressive vs. what a typical CEO would make. He just has a different way of motivation but I don't know that I'd buy his projections (that said I'm not following it in detail).
  23. QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ May 12, 2016 -> 07:28 AM) My own personal feeling is that attending NFL games in person is overrated. It costs a metric f***ton of money first of all, and you have a harder time following everything that's going on than you do on TV. I am amused by people debating what did or didn't happen during a game and someone chimes in saying "well, I was at that game and..." as though it validates their experience. lol, no, the rest of us saw that play in HD in multiple angles with slow motion replays, you were sitting 350 feet away, stop it. Ditto. I'll go to one every few years when the Bears are in the vicinity. That is it. Have no real desire to see them in person. Have a hard time figuring out what the hell is even going on.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 11, 2016 -> 08:33 AM) Just awful not using a guy on the DL. He needs to be fired immediately. To think this poster thinks ROBIN is clueless. Bottom line...not a player on a big league roster should not be expected to hand a 5 run lead in the 8th (especially when you add in the fact that the pen was taxed). On a normal day, okay Carrol probably doesn't get the job, but there were so many things outside of the one matter that I would argue Robin was off on (he left Carrol in for one batter too many). Grand scheme, that wasn't why we lost the game. Defense didn't make plays that it could have and our pen (including Albers) let us down big time.
