  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 01:43 PM) Zot Zot. Y
  2. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 01:59 PM) I thought Gase was getting the job as that would be the only thing to entice Manning to come back. If not, that whole staff would be fine by me. Elway will likely reach out to Kubiak (hasn't yet) and I'm sure he'll reach out to Shanny. I don't think Gase is a done deal. If he was, I think he'd already be hired.
  3. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 01:40 PM) Fox is 60, it is not a long term solution but he is a guy that can hopefully put Humpty back together again. The OC is big here. I still think if Denver turns down Gase, Gase ends up coming with Fox. I don't know that the Niners will hire him and might instead go with Quinn.
  4. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 01:30 PM) Yeah I think that is what gives him the upper hand to all the other candidates. He can definitely build a quality staff thats done it before from day one and create a culture around the Bears of professionals ready to compete. Pace cant have a flop here. They are aware they cant have an Emery like failure with the hire and dont want to risk it with one of the up and comers that are available. Fox is the safe bet which equals that smart bet in this case. Plus if you are a GM, making your first coaching hire, unless Fox says something that would completely annoy you, it would be hard to go against the recommendation of your consultant (Ernie) and one of your closest professional contacts in Sean Payton. Let alone his general track record. The hire of Fox essentially guarantees that he'll have a chance to hire a 2nd coach. Obviously you want it to be the right coach but I think he is not only the right coach for the Bears but also the right choice for Pace in his career. No one is going to hammer him if he misses on Bowles when he went for Fox (I mean people will...but not to the extent that happened when we whiffed on the defending coach of the year for a CFL coach). It was that reckless decision that really was indicative of who Emery was (as he made a few other reckless decisions, imo) as a GM and why he wouldn't be successful. The name of the game is clearing smarts and a little bit of luck but you also need to take calculated risks, not just any risk will do.
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 12:39 PM) Jason, look at the opening post in the thread. Eh....how the hell am I supposed to know what the first post is in a catch all thread. I have no earthly idea what is in the catch all threads nor do I read many posts in catch all threads (hence my general disdain for them). Now that I get made fun for making stupid posts because of them...all members posting in the catch all thread (after this post) will be banned. No exceptions!* * Unless of course I like you...in which case it is okay...so in code, neither Kyle or Wite can ever post in a catch-all thread again. Everyone else is fair game. And Shipps...well he is banned just because.
  6. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 12:41 PM) Yea I guess I'm just kinda surprised with all the sources saying it's a match between Bears and Fox that this process hasn't sped up, all other HC candidates are on their 2nd interview and the Bears are still kinda pondering around. Isn't Bowles the only one on any 2nd interview and technically those have just been scheduled. Check that, I guess Del Rio with Oakland. It isn't like a bunch of candidates are gone at this point. I think stuff starts to move pretty quick tomorrow (which is when I'm going to guess they meet with Fox).
  7. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 12:29 PM) I thought John Fox had interest to come to the Bears as well? What's the hold up then? Presume they need to meet, talk figures, etc. As long as we are first team to meet with him, that is what matters. I also don't think we could just tell Austin no (and bump his interview). I'm sure Pace called him, said we are extremely interested in meeting, is the interest mutual...yes, okay when works for you. We have Austin lined up tomorrow between these slots and any other time works for us but we want you to know that we think you are fantastic and really want to get to know you during this process and make you our next head football coach. Obviously the key is to make sure that our personalities and football ideas align, etc, as we want to have strong working relationships.
  8. Per Dan Bernstein and Terry Boers. We each have a different source in bears, and told them all in on Fox. Looks like the Bears are going after John Fox hard
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2015 -> 01:55 PM) If it was just the straw buyers that were the problem, there wouldn't be a trend where 1 shop has 50000% more guns used in crimes sold in its facility than the average gun shop, the buyers would spread out. There's clearly a reason why they're using those particular shops. That's the correct number by the way. I'm not a gun person but I presume the argument of stop selling at stores that sell to criminals will mean that any gun store in an area with a high crime rate will close (than as those stores close, they'll buy at the stores next closest and we'll see those stores crime rates increase, etc, until we basically have decided that you can't own guns in empovershed areas (since those typically are the areas with the highest gun crime rates). I'm fairly certain that sort of policy won't end up working.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 11:23 AM) FWIW, I am looking at buying intermediate term crude oil call options. The contra-trader in me keeps thinking that there is no way oil stays this low for a long time. It will eventually move but I think it will be a long time (3-5 year) before we see any sustainable increases. I think we'll see oil bottom out around 25 and hover in the 30-40 range for quite a while. At some point the higher cost outfits will go under, demand will increase (along with your decreased supply) and prices will recover. However, in this current era, unless the Saudi's take an abrupt hike from their planned policy, nothing is going to stop the short to medium term drop, imo. The real question is when will that recovery happen (cause Mike...like you, it will definitely happen...I don't know that it will get back, adjusted for inflation, to the high's of this era.
  11. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 11:20 AM) I blame Trestman. The combination of him and Cutler's leadership qualities was just horrific. If Trestman worked with a Brady, Trestman would be an utter genius and work perfect but his personality is a disaster with a QB like Jay (from a leadership perspective).
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 11:16 AM) Isnt he an oil and natural gas Oligarch? Their economy may be going into the crapper, but if he holds on to that stuff, he will probably be ok Is that sarcastic or semi sarcastic? Oil has dropped in half in like 3 months and all signs point to it continuing to further crash. Long-term, value will still be there and it will eventually recover (as demand grows and some of the other avenues of supply drop out due to them no longer being cost efficient, prices will recover a bit) but I would not say that with him invested in that, that he is in a good position from a pure liquidity perspective...very much the exact opposite, which is probably why he wants to pull cash from his basketball franchise (whose value isn't near as deflated as say the Russian economy or oil). PS: I have no familiarity with his actual investments...just going on what was stated in here.
  13. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 11:12 AM) I'm guessing he invested heavily all over the world to protect himself against this very realistic issue with Russian's currency. Easier said than done when you made the bulk of your money in one arena.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 10:59 AM) I would guess this is the case. The Ruble has gone into the toilet vs the dollar, not to mention their economy has tanked since commodity prices have been sold off. The toilet might be more valuable than the Russian economy right now.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 11:03 AM) Dont get me wrong, I want him too. Im just pointing out that there isnt a guy out there that doesnt have a issue, whether it is inexperience or failure at previous jobs I should point out, I forgot Marv Levy.
  16. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 10:51 AM) There isnt any perfect coaching candidate out there right now. Fox has had success in multiple different scenarios, but he has also had some failure, and hasnt won the big game in a few tries. He was a missed field goal away from winning the superbowl with Jake f***ing Delhomme. He won a playoff game and a division with Tim Tebow. Dude is the best coach to not have a superbowl, imo. At least best coach in modern era without a superbowl. Him and Marty Schottenheimer. What a f***ing coup it would be to hire Fox. Top 5 coach in this league, imo. Note: I am not saying that he will instantly make us a contender but would certainly would be a step in the right direction.
  17. I think Marty only has one athlete who he follows (his brother). This may be two guys clowning each other. Hard to say.
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 10:46 AM) Prokhorov probably was pissed he couldnt buy a title because there were actually rules that needed to be followed. Oh well, back to sleeping on large piles of money Is he selling because he actually needs the money due to all the issues going on in mother russia? I'm going to guess is net worth has taking a massive hit.
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 10:21 AM) Tomlin impressed me getting to playoffs this year. He did move into a posiiton with a loaded defense, franchise QB, and the best d coordinator in the business. That team is in transition and hasn't been drafting lights out, but they are getting there once again under him. But ask any steeler fan and he's only a winner because of LeBeau. Steeler fans don't love him. I was quietly hoping the Steelers were going to get rid of him when they lost to the Ravens.
  20. I almost think the Bulls needed this stretch. They got hot and thought they were invincible and didn't realize you need to do what Thibbs is asking. I think we'll see them regroup and play their best basketball in time and we'll look back on this slump as a key tipping point in the season, imo. Earlier in the season, when we struggled, people didn't think Thibbs was accurate in his message...now the players seem to be speaking Thibbs talk about what is wrong and now that they are both seeing eye to eye, we should see our defense take a major step forward, imo. Biggest thing is I expect Rose to improve as season goes on (and same for Noah).
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 10:06 AM) Definitely agree with Tomlin and Harbaugh The Steelers have had some pretty "meh" teams under Tomlin too though. Reality is I want to change the shape and culture and I think Fox would very much do that. I also think at his age, he isn't worried about having powerful and knowledgeable assistants and top assistants would love to work with him (knowing their is a form of job security). I really think he'd be a tremendous hire.
  22. I think the only way the Bears hire their next head coach this week, is if it is John Fox. If it is any other coach, I don't anticipate them hiring him until next week, once Pace has had a chance to meet with Quinn. Just my 2 cents. I do think they will hire Fox and it will happen pretty quickly (I think by Friday...most likely Thursday).

  24. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 03:02 PM) Are you sure about that ? That just sounds ridiculous. http://www.cleveland.com/tribe/index.ssf/2...1/post_411.html The Indians previous bullpen coach was hired to manage the Rays in December. Bere replaces Kevin Cash (Rays new manager).
  25. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 07:27 AM) I'm looking forward to moving to Tmobile where this can be accommodated better. Really what just makes this s*** luck is timing for me. I would have jumped ship but I need my credit and am hoarding all cash while we hope to execute this short sale purchase. I will say, this is why I regard the iPhone 4 to be best phone ever. Thing lasted 30 months without fail, and continues to serve as a backup for us and my friends. Loved that thing. Can't move back to it now because at&t phone. Tmobile might be worse. Tmobile, to get the best value prop, you need to keep your phones on the longer end of the cycle. If you are paying retail every 12 months, a large chunk (if not all) of the savings between carriers gets eaten up.
