Derrick Rose to have surgery on Torn Right Meniscus
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 27, 2015 -> 02:38 PM) Key phrase = "the crap in the east". That's what amazes me about this being a playoff team. IT was a playoff team last year without Pau and with a lesser Jimmy Butler. I realize no DJ, but you also have Niko and a better Snell. This team is better than last years no Rose team and they were in the playoffs, so why wouldn't this team. We will have a rough stretch though as the match-ups are very tough (starting w/Clippers game). Hopefully they respond to the good news.

Derrick Rose to have surgery on Torn Right Meniscus
QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Feb 27, 2015 -> 10:51 AM) It's possible that Derrick might actually have learned something from his first two rehabs stints. He might actually realize that no level of conservatism in his play will totally protect him from future injury. It's possible, but with Derrick's "circle," it's unlikely. I agree with this and given the reports that he was told this issue was a pretty high probability, you'd think he'd know, this is in general on the more minor side and is not one of those if you rush back too quick, you are talking about major issues (supposedly rehab for this is more minor). In fact, seems like a lot of people think he might actually feel better than he has all year as a result of this clean up procedure. With Rose's history though, we shall see. Would be huge if he is back, but really key to me if he could get in at least 5-6 regular season games in (as he works up minutes, etc).

Derrick Rose to have surgery on Torn Right Meniscus
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 27, 2015 -> 10:25 AM) I wonder if the Bulls publishing this timeline is a shot at Rose's camp to try to pre-emptively stop him taking forever to come back. Friedell almost indicated that this might very well have been the case. Basically pulls are putting all of the public pressure on Rose. That said, it would appear Forman indicating Rose will aggressively rehab this would have been vetted by Rose but I think this is the Bulls getting totally out in front of this and saying, Rose, this is what the doctors say, this is what we are publishing. If you want to do otherwise, you will no longer be protected by us. General belief that we'll hear from Rose in the next few days as well.

Derrick Rose to have surgery on Torn Right Meniscus
Now, the Bulls have to do their part and try to hold seed so we can get a favorable match-up in the first round while Rose is still rounding back into shape. Timing of this injury is what really makes it brutal. A month earlier and it really wouldn't have been a big deal as there would have been ample time for Rose to wear off any additional rust from missing the 4-6 weeks.

Derrick Rose to have surgery on Torn Right Meniscus
Exciting. Lets hope this recovery time holds true. You'd hope Forman was relatively conservative in that estimate too. I think it would be so important for Rose to get back on the court and contribute this year. I think it goes a long way in him reaching another level next year.

The darned dress. What color do you see?
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 27, 2015 -> 07:50 AM) i don't think it has to do with superior, it has to do with the way the contrast is perceived. My wife are having a battle over this, so I really hope someone can find some science that proves what I am seeing as being superior, haha. I figure my eyes are more advanced so those seeing blue have more focus and able to see more colors of the color spectrum vs. those who see white (who at some point, all the color's blend to white).
-
The darned dress. What color do you see?
I see royal blue and black and the bottom of the dress, the top of the dress is royal blue and gold to me. What I want to know is, do people who see the blue have superior vision or is it people who see the white with superior vision cause there is nothing white about that dress.

Derrick Rose to have surgery on Torn Right Meniscus
Hopefully good news comes out post-surgery but when all is said and done, I'll believe it when I see Rose back on the court. All this said, I think he plays again this year and it will be really critical for him to get back on the horse quickly (vs. having the long off-season). The fact is, we all likely overreacted to this news, as the reinjury rate was pretty high in the first place related to the procedure originally done.

2014-2015 NFL Football thread
Sounds like Cowboys are trying to buy the tape so that it doesn't get reported nationally. What is annoying about this is that it is something that is so old that evidently everyone was aware of it from the past (I presume if Cowboys were aware of it, NFL was as well).

Derrick Rose to have surgery on Torn Right Meniscus
QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 25, 2015 -> 11:35 AM) Let's also ignore the 4-5 scrap heap PGs Thibs has spun off, that have gone on to get paid by other teams. You could also point out Asik, who got more and more minutes as his rookie season went on.

Derrick Rose to have surgery on Torn Right Meniscus
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 25, 2015 -> 09:36 AM) This is his third knee injury. I have no doubt he will come back and play. But the Derrick Rose of MVPness is dead. Heck the All-Star Derrick Rose should have dirt thrown on his grave as well. Now he is just overpaid Derrick Rose. Let's just hope Reggie didn't spend all of Derrick's money on SAT study guides. Westbrook had the same series of injuries (in fact, Westbrook had 4 injuries in theory...ACL and 3 different meniscus surgeries).

Derrick Rose to have surgery on Torn Right Meniscus
QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 25, 2015 -> 09:32 AM) Steve seems to be making a bunch of assumptions on the media's perception of Rose. The news out this morning is very positive. It seems inevitable that he will get the meniscus removed as from what I've read, it's standard operating procedure after a retear. I am sure April will either suck or suck really bad. Is the surgery today? 7+ weeks till the end of the season.

Derrick Rose to have surgery on Torn Right Meniscus
QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 25, 2015 -> 09:30 AM) The crap thing with this injury is just, you have 20 million tied to a player that there is now no doubt you cannot rely on to play. The other crap thing is kirk hinrich. He may come back, but either way, the great play we are getting from low market value short pgs is great, until they are your only PG. Luckily, this league has a lot of great PGs now. Which is why I say of all positions to have to add to in the off-season, PG is a good one to need cause their is a dearth of quality PG's.

Derrick Rose to have surgery on Torn Right Meniscus
QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Feb 25, 2015 -> 09:27 AM) Agree, this injury isn't significant enough to end Derrick's career. However, I don't think we're going to see Derrick play at the levels we're hoping could/would. I think this will be the final nail in Thibs tenure as HC. I don't think Derrick will be on the roster after his contract expires. I think the Bulls will be mired in mediocrity for the foreseeable future. I think lots of things. I agree with most everything you said, however, I've long pointed to 2016 as the year Rose regains his all star status (and that is still in reach if he can come back and play this season, imo). I think the worst thing for him would be not getting back this season and having a long off-season. If he comes back and plays this season, he can have a normal off-season, played in at least a decent chunk of this season, playoffs, etc, and be in a position to move forward in 16. The piece I don't understand is how is Rose's injury a nail in Thibbs tenure? What did Tom do to drive or lead to this injury. The Bulls and Rose couldn't have been more conservative with Rose (since his initial injury) and this is what has happened. How can a finger for any of these more recent injuries be put in Thibbs direction? Rose isn't playing heavy minutes. In fact, he's largely been babied since his first injury. I'd argue he might have been better off had they pushed things more (look at Westbrook). All this said, lets not forget that the reinjury of the meniscus is relatively common and not overly serious (look at Westbrook). If you want hope, you at least have Westbrook to look at. He's better than ever.

Derrick Rose to have surgery on Torn Right Meniscus
QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 25, 2015 -> 09:19 AM) I just find this hard to believe because in December when Rose was playing his best, so was Jimmy. I find it more likely that MJD affected this, as a lot of the success jimmy had early was getting the 2 guard match-up and overpowering them. Then he was exclusively a 3 in january save for some niko moments. By the way...I do think Rose comes back this year and this injury doesn't end his career. I do think this injury means the Bulls officially pass the torch to Butler to be their star, which is good. It should take a lot of pressure off Rose and in the off-season we can add a PG and give Rose more minutes at the 2 spot.

Derrick Rose to have surgery on Torn Right Meniscus
QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 25, 2015 -> 09:11 AM) No, it hasn't, his postgame turn-around fadeaway jumpers have predictably disappeared. I do think a lot of this has to do with rose and others getting more shots and bad spacing with MJD being gone. Butler is also playing with a messed up finger. Watch Butler elevate his game. This off-season, Bulls need to find a way to get a true point guard (which probably shouldn't be that difficult).

Derrick Rose to have surgery on Torn Right Meniscus
Really only thing that kills me in this is, obviously it sucks for Rose, but with the deadline past, we are going to have a tough time finding a PG (cause Brooks as a starter will be a disaster and we all know Hinrich can't handle a full load anymore and he himself has fallen off a cliff). I think we'll see this team (maybe a short blip) but rise to the occassion. For those that say the Bulls are screwed, we'll see what Rose can do but we have a guy who is developing into a superstar in Jimmy Butler and it is now his team (along with Noah's). If Rose can get healed and get back, great, all the better, but the torch has been passed to Butler.

2014-2015 NFL Football thread
Cowherd has hinted at major major issues with Dez and why no one should offer him big money without protection. He won't specifically say anything but he's been saying it for the past year that their is massive amounts of smoke around him and if you just look at police visits to his house it is absurd in and of itself.

Baseball Commish Manfred open to discussing length of schedule
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 24, 2015 -> 08:30 AM) I think the only way I could get behind a shorter season is if it also coincided with more playoff games. I don't want less baseball being played. I think that is what I would propose, shortening the season but expanding the post-season. The problem with a long season is, that you lose a lot of relevance in numerous markets late in the year. Having more teams still in the thick of things makes the races much more interesting (and to a large extent, the additional wild card team has helped that...although I think the 1 game playoff probably should be expanded, although I understand the concept of making it a winner take all, I just don't love that format in baseball).

2014-2015 NBA thread
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 24, 2015 -> 08:10 AM) A lot of his misses were at the rim with contact. Despite the turnovers, he also had 8 assists, which is nice. I really start to wonder when Rose is going to start getting the foul call. I also look forward to when Rose regains his touch. He used to literally not miss at the rim and that skill is going to come back, imo.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 20, 2015 -> 11:22 AM) From what I have heard, Pax is lukewarm about Thibs, and that your statement is pretty accurate. Gar just seems like a jerk. Heck of an eye for talent though. That said, Thibbs should get a heck of a lot of credit for his ability to develop young players (even though everyone has this shtick like he doesn't develop them).
