QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 16, 2014 -> 07:34 PM) The execution wasn't there, but he did what he needed to do. The US wasn't keeping or getting possession much at all, and certainly not forward, so he tried to create chances by himself by going at defenders. It didn't work, but if one of those does it's a clear shot on goal for a team that couldn't create a chance passing the ball. You want someone who was terrible? Michael Bradley. He made several poor passes and that decision to cross to no one instead of going to the corner in the 95th minute clinched what was a totally bizarre game from him. That looked more like the Roma Bradley than the one most USMNT fans love. Yeah, that was just a disaster from Bradley. Can't advance without him playing significantly better. Zero control of the midfield and zero creation.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 16, 2014 -> 05:54 PM) They really played way too conservatively the 2nd half and had no business getting that win if you look at the number of possessions, shots and quality of attacks. That said, even Christiano Ronaldo or Messi can be shut down quite easily by 2-3 defenders or a marking scheme, so losing one forward shouldn't be the death knell. It all comes down to Portugal vs. Ghana and the US vs. Portugal. Wasn't expecting much this World Cup so a win still feels nice, no matter how it transpires. Quite easily. I find that laughable. But either way huge US win. Hopefully Altidore isn't out too long. Next game is Sunday, which gives us time. Got lucky here cause by and large this wasn't the better team.

This is awful. I hope somehow this isn't as bad as it looks.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 16, 2014 -> 02:31 PM) Was Wite's first move as an admin to completely unmod me? That asshole! That was my bad. I was trying to get you removed from being the 2006 season in review mod and forgot to switch a setting back.

Jim (Tex) and Blake (Wite) have been extremely long-time posters and tremendous posters. Not only that, they have both served as fantastic members of the moderating team who have earned a promotion (or as they will soon find out, a demotion) to the admin ranks. I think they both bring a lot of great attributes to the table, most notable, both are very strong posters and obviously avid White Sox fans, but they also bring a key character trait to look and try to bring out the good in posters and understand the moderate lightly concept which I believe in and which I believe allows our posters to have freedom to go into various conversations (and to be emotional from time-to-time). With that said, we all know there are certain, simple rules that members are expected to abide by. We will also be announcing some other changes in the coming week as we work to bring on some new blood! PS: Thanks to everyone on Soxtalk.com for making this place what it is!!!

So fired up for the US game tonight. USA USA!!!

RIP Tony. One of my all time favorites. Remember watching many a game down in San Diego, including getting to see his 3000th hit . Such a sweet swing and an all time legend with the bat. Always seemed like a great guy too.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 12, 2014 -> 08:04 PM) Heat should ditch Wade for Melo. That could happen.
-
QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jun 12, 2014 -> 07:04 PM) Where's J4L to remind us how easily the Heat were gonna roll the Spurs? Every offesnsive possession by the Heat looks forced and sloppy while the Spurs are getting clean looks. 1 game away from a potential dismantling of the Heat!!! NBA offseason could get really interesting with a Heat win!!!

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 13, 2014 -> 06:58 AM) Every day that Rodon doesn't sign, pisses away the small chance that he could pitch for Chicago this year. And that is fine with me. I am in no rush. He's thrown a lot of innings / pitches already and it would be foolish to rush him. The time off should be good for his arm.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jun 12, 2014 -> 12:53 PM) 1990, Bob Welch. Knew it was Welch, for whatever reason thought it was 88 or 89.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 12, 2014 -> 12:39 PM) If Tanaka ends the season with a 2.02 ERA and 25 wins, he is winning the ROY, CY, and MVP. Exactly; Strong ERA, great K numbers, etc. Add in 25 wins, which we all know isn't fully controlled by a pitcher, but it still is a strong statement. Plus hasn't it been since the late 80's since someone won that many?
-
QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jun 12, 2014 -> 12:08 PM) who do you guys think will end up winning the roy? neither will end up with these numbers imo, but espn has them on pace for: abreu:.270/47/123 tanaka:25-3 2.02 No doubt about it...Tanaka is ROY if he puts up those numbers. Not even close to me.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 11, 2014 -> 02:31 PM) SoxNet.net @SoxNet 15s With today's signings, Sox look to have around just short of $400k in savings to use towards Rodon or ~$6.1million total. #MLBDraft I still won't be surprised if he signs for slot.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 11, 2014 -> 10:33 AM) Trading Noah for love defeats the purpose for trading for Love, which was presumably to field a better basketball team. Getting a bunch of 10-20 first round rookies to surround him and a broken Rose doesn't really do that. It extends your window though and you still can make a run at Melo. Not saying I'd do it but something worth considering.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 07:00 PM) Has there ever been a pitcher in the MLB or the minors who has ever been a full time starting pitcher AND a position player on his days off? I know Mike Hampton and Micah Owings and Carlos Zambrano had pinch-hit before, but did anyone play full time as both a pitcher and a hitter? Babe Ruth.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 06:24 PM) Jim Callis @jimcallisMLB 1h 7th-rder Jake Peter agrees w/@WhiteSox on $203,800 (full value at 198). Creighton, 2B/SS for now, also to 96 mph on mound. @MLBDraft I really am not following why we picked him up as a middle infielder but I do love drafting athletic middle infielders. Arm obviously plays great there, but not a lot of good things about his bat. Love his upside on the mound.

Will be there. First game of the season.

USA cuts Landon Donovan from World Cup team
Chisoxfn replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I will just say it is f***ing horse s*** that Donovan isn't on the USMT. I realize the odds aren't in our favor in a couple weeks but no way is Donovan not one of the 23 best guys. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 14, 2014 -> 01:01 PM) Actually, I do believe that Spoelstra has become one of the best coaches in the NBA. I agree; I think he is a top 10 coach in this league. Not better then Thibbs though.

Beckham feels no added pressure from Semien/Johnson
Chisoxfn replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 14, 2014 -> 08:56 AM) Keppinger got that on the strength of a .325/.367/.439 (128 wRC+) walk year. If Beckham does that, he won't be looking for a job. Exactly. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 14, 2014 -> 08:49 AM) If Jeff Keppinger can get $4 million a year, Gordon Beckham can get $4 million a year. I don't think Beckham will get 4M a year. Keppinger had put up far better numbers then Beck when he signed that contract. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 14, 2014 -> 08:14 AM) Beckham will be good enough to where the dollars are fine in 2015. What over the past two to three years gives you any indication of this. He's a below average starter and has consistently proven that.
