WELCOME BACK, JIM THOME!
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 01:14 PM) Jim Thome has been hired by the White Sox to serve as a special assistant to the general manager. Which presumably means that his playing career is over. Thome was telling people as recently as May that he wanted to sign with a major league team, but nothing ever came about. The 42-year-old played for the White Sox for four years (2006-2009) and was beloved. What's hilarious, is he can probably hit better than the DH we have making $15 million (leave it be, Wite). Welcome back JT!!!

O's land Feldman
They get cash to pick up some more international players too, which can be beneficial (well...Cubs have to use their own money..but they now have the ability to do it). That is worth something. I would have liked to see what Coop could have done with someone like Arietta who never lived up to his hype.

Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox
They just picked up Feldman but a team like the o's might be the type that overpays for a guy like Peavy to put them over the top. Hard part is, until Peavy makes some starts, it will be hard to get the type of value they should. Sox might be better off holding him till the off-season and moving him then. Really sucks cause with his contract and ability, he'd have gotten a solid haul.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 08:56 AM) I think Korver is getting the same price. Would rather have him than Dunleavy. Me too. I assume they think Dunleavy is more passable at the 2 defensively then Korver? Korver knows the system and the guys. Would have been a better fit, imo.

NBA Thread 2013-2014
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 08:39 AM) The Mavericks and Wolves have discussed a sign-and-trade involving O.J. Mayo and J.J. Barea. ESPN Dallas calls it a "near certainty" that Mayo won't return with the Mavs, given his asking price, so Mark Cuban's team is hoping to at least get some value for him via sign-and-trade. Here's where I don't get the Bulls. If the Mavs will take Barea and a pick back, can't you jump in there, offer some pick and a contract, and get a much-needed piece on this roster? Sigh. If the Bulls were serious, they'd make a push at Mayo. THey have the TPE and can make something happen and just pay the freaking tax. Small price to pay to show the city, fans, and you star player that you want to do this. Key is signing Mayo to a fair deal, but he clearly would be a major upgrade. You also have the ability to make a play at LMA and amnesty Boozer which would help the salary situation. Not realistic but I'm sure the Lakers would be able to figure out a way to get it done (at least Jerry Buss' Lakers).

White Sox sign Micker Zapata for $1.6 million
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 08:22 AM) I don't think it does. You don't think he is one of our 25 best prospects? He has better tools and upside then a lot of guys in the top 25. Bonus was first round money, albeit, doesn't always equate on the international market, but no doubt this guy immediately becomes at a minimum a top 10-15 prospect and he has top 3 prospect potential. If you look at floor, high bust potential. Ceiling is a lot higher then a lot of guys in the Sox top 10. Development will be long and probably why he fails because our system is just awful at developing position players and until they prove otherwise, I fully believe the organization needs to clean up its player development group and minor league position/coaching staffs related to position players. I'm comfortable with the development from the mound. If I was an owner, I'd spend more money and buy the best scouts and talent developers in the game. Cheap compared to buying big name FA's.

Engagement Rings
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 08:00 AM) There is a pretty decent barbecue place here in town called Lucille's that will do the food on site...4 meats, a salad, and 4 sides for about $25/person...for 140ish people, I think that will put us at about $4k on the food, which I don't think is too bad. People will enjoy that more than the banquet type food, and I think people will get a kick out of watching (and smelling) them grill up all that great bbq food. Now I just have to start planning how to handle the booze situation... Their biscuits are good.

The continuing fall and decline of PHT.
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 12:14 AM) If you want to do that, fine. But don't let me or anybody play ANY role in your decision whatsoever. That's lame. I get more s*** in the NBA thread than anybody here anywhere. And I don't give a f***. I'm the smartest person there (besides brother quinarvy). Nobody will ever chase me from that thread. We all love each other here guys.....come on, lets hug this s*** out.

Do we really have to be sellers?
QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jul 1, 2013 -> 07:58 PM) Maybe its the 117 degree heat in Las Vegas making me crazy, but what if we decided to be buyers instead of sellers? We are only 10.5 games out of first place and no one seems prepared to run away with this division. Lets go out and trade for a 1B, 3B, C, OF, DH, and a couple of pitchers. If we have the opportunity, lets upgrade at other positions as well. We can turn this thing around with the pickup of 8 or 10 new players who contribute strongly. Wouldn't it be a hoot if we won the division after this start?? You are talking about a brand new roster and mortaging existing talent. Why not acquire talent currently (spinning some assets which have value) and then start the process over during the off-season. 10.5 games may not be a lot but there are a ton of teams ahead and all of those teams have better rosters (imo). This lineup is atrocious.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 1, 2013 -> 04:18 PM) There is no doubt in my mind that the Bulls are the worst run organization in Chicago. If they hadn't have lucked into Rose, they would still be awful. Well, you do have to give them credit for drafting well. They did a great job with Asik, Gibson, and Butler. Plus you have Mirotic. Hopefully Dell pans out too.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 1, 2013 -> 10:24 AM) This seems incredibly impossible. They have the trade exception so they could sign and trade. I think the exception is worth like 6 or 6.5M. They are too cheap to pay the major tax associated with it though since it really would be like 12M (if you gave him 6M).

NBA Thread 2013-2014
QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Jul 1, 2013 -> 10:04 AM) Bulls are apparently in pursuit of Mo Williams and Will Bynum. I am in disgust... This FO baffles me sometimes. We still have Hinrich and Teague to back up Rose, unless he's not ready to go to start the season. They are also not likely to retain Belinelli at this point. Our biggest needs are a shooting wing, and a backup center, not another PG who can't shoot. We can't go into the season with our two best shooters being rookies who aren't likely to get enough burn. I don't have a problem with either names. I wish they'd use their trade exception and try to get OJ Mayo or another shooting guard to potentially open up the possibility of dealing Deng for Lamarcus. PS: If Gar is making a power play on Thibbs, I will be so pissed. Thibbs is the best amn coach ever.

Keppinger to Yanks?
I assume pure salary dump? I say play Morel and Gillespie as much as possible. Might as well see if you have something, especially since I always thought Morel had some potential to be a solid 3B men (obviously before all of the injuries).

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 11:50 AM) I couldnt stand Simmons on tv and wondered if he even understood what being a professional was, as opposed to an unabashed homer. I guess some people might find it interesting if we put 4 super fans up there, but not I. Simmons is tremendous.

Deleted by me. People are more then entitled to have their opinions, but FutureSox isn't a place to openly discuss your personal twitter feuds. Soxtalk/FutureSox has nothing to do with such, does not support such, and that stuff needs to stay off of our site. Closing this thread now but wanted people to know why it is removed.
