QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 07:57 PM) My previous neighborhood (Logan Square) and current one (Maple Leaf) make the list of 10 hottest neighborhoods of 2013. Obviously one of the key criteria in the metrics used is having the resident by the name of BigSqwert.

QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 06:51 AM) As a outsider looking in, Besides Marshall I see the rest of your WR's a huge weakness. Hester used to be a great ST player but he isn't that good at the WR position. The other 2 are good backup role players. Your #1 weakness on offense is the tight end position, maybe you will draft the TE from ND. You can find several good OL in the draft. A team with Cutler, Forte, Marshall, Wallace and solid TE, would win tbe NFC North for the next 3-4 years The Bears made some very good moves today There is no reason not to have confidence in Jeffrey. Bears need a speed receiver, but they should be able to target a much cheaper one that can fit the bill. TE is a much higher priority. spending a bunch of money on a wideout when you invested a 2nd ruond pick in Jeffrey (and have Marshall) would be a foolish waste of money.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 06:40 AM) According to spotrac.com, his cap hit is only $2,857,523 for 2013. I was thinking there was some sort of roster bonus this year (not necessarily impacting his cap hit). I could be wrong. Either way that is 2.8M more then he's worth in my opinion.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 06:03 AM) I adore this hire immediately. Agree. This is a great hire. He's done a great job with the oline with the Saints and has done a good job in other previous stops.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 05:57 AM) He is, whether you like it or not. Hopefully he is dealt, but still, Bennett was just given new paper and you have Alshon lining up too. No need to go out and get a big FA WR over more pressing needs Hester will be waived. I think he has a big bonus/cap hit this year so I'd be stunned if they kept him.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 05:52 AM) Say goodbye to Urlacher then. This was more the fact that Toub directly competed with Trestman for the job and Trestman was the better man. There could be a lot of sour grapes in that situation. Sounds like one of the guys we interviewed for HC might end up our special teams coach.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 05:37 AM) That's pretty surprising since Rice was really happy when Trestman was let go by the 49ers. He hated the 2 yard routes he was running. http://jacksonville.com/tu-online/stories/...7/1c1rice_.html The thing that concerns me is he's from the Jimmy Johnson tree, Wanne, Norv Turner, both prety much busts as Head Coaches. He's also kind of calm like Lovie. If the Bears don't win right away, the fans are going after him. I'm glad he's calm. I still think I'd have preferred him as an OC but we'll see what he does. His credentials seem decent and he has a plan. But we'll see what he does at the NFL level. Big difference from the CFL. This has major bust potential. I will say its a ballsy hire. If the GM misses on a guy everyone thinks is a good candidate, he may get a chance to hire another coach...going after someone like Trestman...if you whiff on him...you whiffed as a GM and are done.

QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 05:01 AM) Jerry Rice compares Trestman to Bill Walsh. It was a very nice hire for the Bears. I got to meet Trestman when he was with the 49ers, he seem like a great guy Look for the Bears to sign a guy like Mike Wallace, Trestman loves having 2 star WR's They have far more pressing needs, like resigning Melton and finding an oline. Bears also reportedly hire Saints interim interim head coach (and oline coach) as the OC/Oline coach which spells the end of Tice. Very curious what happens with Marinelli. I really hope he stays.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 06:48 PM) Id be okay with that, but I still think its a step down from Lovie Smith as HC, Trestman as OC and Marinelli as DC. Especially as its a veteran team and they all responded to Lovie. I would need to know more about the previous OC hiring decisions, and how much was Emery/Angelo, and how much was Lovie. (edit to your edit) And yes, Arians (imo) is the better candidate. That would have been great...problem is...you couldn't really let Lovie hire yet another OC.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 06:43 PM) No I think the masses would be more than okay with Testman as an OC where his entire job is helping Cutler and getting the offense to work. But if Trestman is the HC, he is going to have to work with both sides of the ball, so he cant put as much time and effort into the offense. For example, if the Bears kept Lovie and hired Trestman, I think many people would have read these comments with great enthusiasm. That is what Marinelli is for.

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 06:40 PM) “The way he relates to the quarterback,” Gannon said when asked what makes Trestman unique. “Every quarterback who has played for him has gotten better. “If you ask me if there’s one thing Chicago needs, it’s someone to get Jay Cutler back on track. If you look at [Cutler’s] footwork and ballhandling, he has major issues. Some fundamental things have slipped by the wayside because he hasn’t been coached properly. Marc could come in there and get him straightened out.” The guy had success with Jake freakin Plummer (for a year), was the QB coach & OC for Rich Gannon's MVP season. He's certainly no sure thing but I feel like hes getting way less of a chance from the masses due to the fact that hes currently in the CFL. I'm starting to warm up to Trestman. However, it is a huge risk going from Lovie to someone like Trestman. Ballsy to go outside the norm.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 05:41 AM) I couldn't get into Happy Endings, fo some reason. I like some of the cast, specifically the women were the funniest, but just didn't click for me. I tried last year and just gave up on it.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 13, 2013 -> 05:48 PM) Northwestern lost at home by 20 to Iowa. Ouch. A beautiful thing!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 13, 2013 -> 10:57 AM) (Unless they're playing Jay Cutler) Haha...I had actually thought about saying that. I think the big problem was the Packers were in man the whole game and you can't do that with a running Q. Packers D only shows up for the Bears (oh and Joe Webb). Other then that, they sucked this year. You didn't have to look past what the Vikings did to them on 2 separate occasions (when they had Ponderer). It really is sad the Bears can't do much against the Packers D. The big thing is, the familiarity between the teams is there. Hell, look at how the Rams play the Niners.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jan 13, 2013 -> 09:57 AM) Well carving up the Saints defense is something almost all QB's do lol, but yeah I do feel bad for him he was playing well and lost his starting gig because of an injury even if it was whats best for the team. Packers D is pretty bad.
-
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jan 13, 2013 -> 09:36 AM) Not too mention this is a completely different team with Kaepernick starting instead of Alex Smith. Good chance if Smith starts the game the Packers win. Smith took care of the Packers in week 1. Not sure that you can say that for certain. Kap was huge in the game though. Damn near 200 rushing yards out of the QB. Atrocious D by the Packers. Reminded me of what Wilson did to the Bears in the 4th quarter and OT. It made more sense after hearing Woodson and others say they didn't game plan for Kap to run so much. Capers dropped the ball on that game plan.

Went to the Clippers game this afternoon...watching the Bulls game on DVR during commercials of Packers game while getting Amazon Prime installed on my TV/PS3.

Kaperneck shutting me up. Responding great from that pick.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 12, 2013 -> 05:56 PM) Then, unless they can come up with more room, Melton won't be one of those guys. I guarantee they can make it work. In the NFL, there is a lot you can do (whether they just give him a bigger up front bonus and tack on some extra years with higher bases). Lots of things you can do with the cap, especially when you figure a year from now they'll actually have a bit more cap space (Peppers will have to be adjusted; cap increases). Yes, Cutler would be due a larger bonus but other then that you probably aren't looking at a lot of other guys coming due.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 12, 2013 -> 05:30 PM) Like I said, if Melton is an $7-$8 million player, and you have $5 million in cap holds, you have $5 million left for your TE and O-Lineman. That's filler. That's not finding a good lineman and TE, that's finding depth. I don't think that counts Urlacher either. I am not paying Urlacher anything close to what he made last year if I'm the GM. If have 18M, I can easily spread 7M on a OT and 7M on Melton and then that leaves 3M for a TE. There are probably other things that could be done too (which includes renegotiating some vet deals, etc).

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 12, 2013 -> 05:29 PM) Haha! Niners suck I've been telling my Niners buddy the whole time I think Kaperneck has a ton of issues and does not make them better this year. We'll see if I'm right on this. Alex Smith played so well for them this year.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 12, 2013 -> 05:24 PM) I'm not certain that the Bears have that kind of cap room. If Melton is say, an ~$8 million player, $5 million in cap holds, that only leaves a couple million for the O Line and TE you want. They will be somewhere near 15-18M free after they cut Hester, Spaeth, and Kellen Davis. That includes Melton at his current rate. They can find a way to get 3 guys in during that situation. I'm not talking about paying a TE 5M per year. There are a lot of quality TEs out there (I'm not looking for a Jimmy Graham...give me a Dustin Keller or Greg Olsen or Finley, etc).
