Jesse Rogers: Sox Sign Benintendi - 5yr / $75M
I go back to - and he did just sign with the Sox - so he clearly will just break. But he's 28, signed through age 33 ish - and pretty much his entire career he has been a solid baseball player. He has also had some well above average seasons at the plate - and was once an extremely highly touted prospect. This seems like just an all around solid move and clearly addresses a major void (garbage outfield range/defense), poor baserunning (Benitendi is a solid / fast baserunner), and getting a left handed bat (who is a solid hitter).

What - Gallo is straight trash. Such a flawed player. You can tell me its okay his power will bounce back but Andrew is coming off multiple solid seasons and is just a good / solid all around player. Is he a superstar, no, but he's a good player, a quality hitter, a good baserunner, has speed, etc. He's just a flat out solid all around ball player. So much better than what the Twins did.

No clue on money but I like this. Makes the team better.

Rodon to the Yankees, $162 million
Go find my post saying that

Carlos Correa is a Twin - 6 yrs $200M
As long as they throw in Mo Vaughn. We need some left handed power. Maybe even move him off first base and put him in left field. I hear he is quite the athlete.

Another one gone. At least Twins didn’t get him and he went to NL.

Denver has zero incentive to tank. The last thing they want to do is hand over the #2 pick to the Seahawks. They will want to win (as will the Rams) if for nothing else the pride of the front office making that pick less valuable for the other team.

The Twins and Guardians signed the 2 catchers I liked. Zunino was a real nice buy low candidate with some upside.

Your 2023 Off-Season Plan
Jerry has given the payroll the past couple years. I could argue whether they could spend more - but end of the day, outside of the TLR stuff (which is obviously on JR) - Hahn gets zero pass. He has zero excuse unless someone pulled the rug out of him and he was planning some completely different budget (and we know that isn't true). This front office is a mess.

Hate to see that. Hopefully it is not as bad as it looks.

Sean Murphy Traded to Braves
I could have seen Crochet as a pretty good top guy (just looking at what the package was) but with that said - A's may not have wanted to take a shot on him (limited upside given how many years of service already used and where he is in the rehab process)? I think Crochet has more upside than anyone the A's got, but that doesn't mean the A's buy it.

Sean Murphy Traded to Braves
Figures- a proactive organization who is constantly adjusting its means to fit within its broader strategy (including some retooling actions it took last year because they had to).

Sean Murphy Traded to Braves
What if we find out Sox are in as a 3rd team and picking up D'Arnaud.

Patient would be fine - if the Sox had a track record for delivering on those statements.

Baseball is pretty bad though - but there are organizations in far worse spots (financially) than White Sox who can still do it. In general - baseball is such a poor follow if you are a fan of a team with smaller budgets - but there are obviously some teams that can make it work. But man - it would be so much more enjoyable if baseball operated like football - where no team has a true financial advantage, so it really comes down to who has the best front office. Yes - there are other things they can do - spend more on coaches, etc and obviously some teams find creative ways - but in general baseball is such a turnoff where you can have teams with $400M in cash overlay (with luxury tax) and teams with like 35M.

I know - it is too bad - cause if they were willing to go on one of these shortstops - they could make a massive step forward for this club. Take whichever will take the shortest tenure contract (since we know JR is not going 6-10 years with anyone.

Trade down - unless the offer is weak. It needs to be relatively substantial - multiple FRP (at least 2 FRP - including one that is still pretty high) plus multiple other picks.

What if the market for 9-11 year deals is done and all that is left is a 5 year deal. The beauty of having this many free agent shortstops out there is at some point the # of teams that are willing to do this might be reduced.

It would be nice to get the haul and than turn around and sign Swanson. Upgrade the D, maintain the offense, get more assets. Win WIN WIN. Even though I am a huge TA fan.

Joey Gallo Rumor Thread
Looking back at Gallos stats - hell to the No. I remember again why I never wanted him from Texas and that was when people thought he was good. No - unless the shift is going to magically add 75 points to his average and somehow get him to double his contact rate. I can see if now they will spend the same as Benitendi or others and it will be on Gallo and Frazier when they could have just gotten the same production as Gallo / Frazier from in house guys and actually had a Benitendi on the roster (you know a legitimately above average player).
